3.2 gbs of other after restore

I have read all of the discussions and I am still having the same issue after trying all of the different solutions. I have completely restored my iphone back to factory settings and I still have 3.2 gbs of other. So other one please help me if I knew what the 3.2 gbs was for then it wouldnt bother me but i have barely 2 gbs of music and like 2 gbs of pics and .5 of apps so I have no idea whats taking up all that space.
Thanks first time iphone user also

The "other" includes the iOS and file system metadata.  It normally is about 0.6-0.8 MB.  It can go somewhat with app data and larger iTunes library metadata.  However if >1 GB, there may be corrupted data that is counted in the "Other" category.
Restore the phone as new, without using a backup.  If the other is now <1 GB, there was corrupted data in the backun and bit the bullet and don't use it.  If still >1 GB take it to Apple.

Read the User Tip that razmee209 linked for you in the post above. If nothing in there works, there May be something on your iPad that is corrupt. Backup the iPad, restore to factory settings, and them restore the backup. If that doesn't fix it, restore as new and download all of your purchased content again.

Try disabilng the Enable Disk Use option from under the iPod's Summary tab, applying the changes, and seeing if that helps.
Otherwise, temporarily disabling any antivirus, security, firewall, or file indexing software that may be running on your system and then try restoring your iPod again.

  • After restoring my ipad, it's excess "other" data went from 3.78 gigabytes to 5  gigabytes.

Whenever I try to search for answers of how to clear this excessive data eating my memory capacity, it all says to restore the ipad. But after restoring my ipad, it only went from 3.78 gig to 5.09 gigabytes. I've been trying to fix my memory problems for days, and now it deleted several apps from other accounts, even accounts I authorised to save it's data, but that proved futile. What is going on!?

Were you using the Maps application while driving, and did you let the screen auto-lock (or press the sleep/wake button) while the Maps app was still on? If so, the lock will shut off the display, but the Maps app will still be running, with the GPS antenna on to track your location, and the Google map data being updated. So, that would likely account for your short battery life. To avoid this, you'd need to press the home button to exit Maps.
You seem to be asking the same question in the same way as Hi I'm a Mac (same person, two aliases?). In any case, charge it like a laptop - the battery is the same type, just smaller. Those who say drain fully then charge are thinking of nickel-based batteries, which have a 'memory effect' - the lithium battery in the iPhone does not.

  • After restoring iPod it stops syncing half way

After restoring iPod, it stops syncing while it is downloading music with an error message "Attempting to copy to the disk. iPod failed. The disc could not be read from or written to".
My music is less memory than what my iPod can hold.
    What's up with this?
    THX!

It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.

  • IPhone syncs automatically after restore despite 'prevent automatic sync' in iTunes preferences

iPhone 4 just restored to deal with memory issue, and after restore, it starts to sync automatically when I connect it to my laptop (OS X 10.9.5, iTunes 11.4) despite checking 'Prevent iDevices from syncing automatically' in iTunes preferences.
iTunes summary screen for the phone, under options, shows a grayed-out 'Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected' phrase, with no box to deselected to fix it.
Any idea what is going on?

This one was odd:  it stopped after the first sync was finally completed--had to interrupt several times to use the phone away from the computer before all the music and photos were fully reloaded.  Now it waits appropriately for next sync.  This is probably why no one else had seen this or replied.

  • 10 GBs of "other" space used, other (in this case) isn't anything

i already had to send back on 3G, and since i got the replacement i've had to restore it twice, and it has yet to make a new backup for me, it starts but never finnishes.
the issue, when i sync(ed) the last time after restoring, it started sizing the pictures and i could see the meter in yellow going up. in the moring i look and i have about a gig audio used, little over a gig video, little over a gig photos, and 10 GB other..... now i saw the other before it moved on from apps and it was almost nothing. and one of the pop up windows said it couldn't move any more photo albums cause there wasn't enough space. i've looked through all the tabs in itunes sync section and there is nothing that could be representing the "other"... and apps are far to small even if i had 100.
i've tried unchecking more videos and other things and it does take that space back but itunes hasn't noticed its mistake yet.
    any advice?
there is 1.03GB free space right now (my photo albums are probably bigger then that)

thank you i expected someone to say that..... i didn't have this problem before, and so the corrupt file would have to be an application? cause there aren't any other files in the other cadagory that i have checked. could it have become corrupt on the transfer to the phone... otherwise i'll have the same problem again. it seems that none of the apps should be corrupt from the download from itunes, should i just assume this was a random thing, cause those keep happening to me, my phone)

Do I need to uninstall CS4 and reinstall?
    Unfortunately yes.
Also run the Cleaner Tool prior to reinstalling
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Restoring from Time Machine backups invariably breaks the activation mechanism (Error 150:30) and there's no easy way to fix a 150:30 error other than via re-installing.

  • ITunes crashes when processing purchases after restoring HD from Time Machine

Ever since I had to restore the HD on my MacBook Pro last weekend, iTunes crashes each time it tries to process downloaded files. Everything elses seems to work fine after restoring my HD. Any ideas?
I've already tried re-setting my Apple ID password, authorizing and deauthorizing and then authorizing my computer, deleting the partially downloaded files in the iTunes library and starting over, and looking into the settings of my Intego VirusBarrier X6 settings - not something I normally do as it usually just does its thing in the background, and I've had this running for the last year with no problems with iTunes in that all time.

Sorry. I'm a bit slow today. The display sleep is normal when running off the install disc, but the HDs shouldn't sleep. Check out the tips I mentioned, since I don't use TM, I can't offer anything WRT restoring from its backups.

The wish list only works on apps you have to pay for. To get it tap the icon of the app you want to save. After it opens at the upper right corner is a box with a arrow. Tap that then tap add to wish list list in the box that opens.

  • Mail program won't open after restore

My Mail program wont open after restoring my phone. It goes to the blank main screen then closes. I have restored it 4 times and still no luck. Any Ideas?

Reboot (not turn off and on).
Press and hold BOTH the home and lock buttons. Keep holding. Don't let go when it says slide to unlock. Don't let go until you see the Apple Logo.
Turning off or on just puts to hibernation and back. Any issues remain. Not sure why a restore didn't fix it, but you should always do a reboot before trying a restore. Far easier and fixes just about all glitches.

  • File not found error after restore the sitecollection

    Hi,
I backed up a MOSS sitecollection using "stsadm -o backup" and then restored the same file in the other machine/server. No problems while creating backup and doing restores . But after restore is successfull and try to open the site ..it is giving me
an error "File not found".Any idea?

    Hey Anikota,
That's usually caused by a Master Page url error.  Open the site in SPD and then open the default.aspx page.  If you see an error regarding the Master Page in the design view then go to the code view and manually correct the Maste Page URL.
    I hope that helps!
