3.5mm break out to optical and analog

I got a new iMac with the mini jack combo output (so you can plug in headphones / speakers or use it as an optical output).
I'd like to hook up a set of optical speakers and a set of analog speakers. I was wondering since the headphone jack on the back of the iMac has BOTH but combined into one, is there a break out box or adapter that will allow you to use both digital and analog?
I've searched around online for a while but cannot find anything, does anyone know of this type of adapter?

Hi Steve,
the audio-port on the iMac (and the other Macs as well) has a small micro-switch in it which is used to determine whether an analog or a digital connecter is inserted.
So in essence you cannot get both analog and digital out of the combined port.

Optical digital and analog audio out

I just purchased a Pavilion 500-214 with IDT High Def Audio CODEC / DTS Sound+
Is it possible to get both opitcal digital audio out and analog (speakers/headphones) out at same time? Stereo amp needs access to both for multizone/source function. I can manually pick one or the other before playback - it is clunky in that when switching audio out devices the active will turn off but one switching to does not always turn on. But i really need both simultaneously active for amp to work properly. I have also found rear speaker jack to be more stubborn during switching than front headphone jack.

Optical In - Analog Out Passthrough? Audigy 2

Hi,
I was wondering if it was possible to use the optical in on the Audigy 2 NX and pass the sound data (from a cable set-top box) to the analog 5. PC speakers connected to USB soundcard?

Well, that's exactly what I did - I use the optical-in to connect my xbox360 to the optical-in on my PCIe X-Fi titanium fatalty pro sound card.
Then, I get to hear the xbox from the speakers connected to my sound card (I suppose when you say "analog jacks" you mean the speakers, am I right?).
Also, I found out I only get sound using the "Digital Stereo" on the xbox.
If you find out how to get true 5. surround, plz let me know (even though we have different cards).

Welcome to the Apple Community.
When you log out of the joint account, you should be asked if you want to keep the contacts, you do. When you log into your new account you should be asked if you want to merge contacts, you do.
If you have already signed into your new account and not taken these options, the simplest thing to do might be to add your wife's account back as a secondary account in system preferences > mail, contacts & calendars. In groups in address book you can drag contacts from your wife's contacts onto your contact group to copy them.

Is it possible there's a bug in the kernel? Sure.
Someone would need to find and identify such a bug before it could be fixed. I've not heard of the discovery of a bug like this. You could check the bug database at www.opensolaris.org.

"Break out" black and pms for prepress?

Help please?
I am working in Illustrator CS4, and finished a 2-sided mailer/postcard for a client in cmyk. After emailing the final PDF to the client, the client responded back to me with their print provider's request for— "native file, with black and PMS broken out".
First—the file was set up as CMYK, so I am asuming it was partly a lazy reponse/request? (not realizing it was set up as CMYK).
Second—I typically I send files to commercial print providers as a PDF (Press Quality or PDF/X:1a)—is this not sufficient for them—and why?
I appreciate any insight on this for my own edification, and I'd like to know if they asked for this beacuse they don't have certain "break out" capabilities on their end? ...OR if it's because PDF's do not provide them with editability (which I thought they did)?
Lastly, I would specifically like to know what steps I should take to prepare CMYK colors "broken out". (Step by step please?)

Thanks for your feedback.
Given that this "separations request" came from the print sales rep—versus the prepress department, I am inclined to think it was "partly a lazy reponse/request (not realizing it was set up as CMYK)." ....as I stated in my initial posting. Hence, this whole discussion could be moot.
That said, I do have the Adobe Print Publishing Guide, but not much insight on file separations/what to actually look for. Also, the book does not suggest "separations" for print vendor file prep procedure—just save as PDF/X-1 or PDF/x-3.
I have tried to research this topic and I am not finding much on "real world" reasoning or situational application—ie: why some print vendors ask for it, while others do not. When is it expected, what is good practice? Are separations for PMS only? Situationally speaking—would a designer actually send a file to a printer broken down/separated by colour—translating a 2 spot colour, 2 sided card (2 pages) into 4 pages—one page per colour? Is that done in the native program ie: illustrator, or is there a SAVE feature that breaks it out for you? questions, questions......

Yes, I also have a colour laser printer—I printed the separations (Host Based) instead of Composite—all 4 sheets came out in various degrees of black (similar to viewing an image via individual Channels in Photoshop). I know not to use a "multicolour black" for text, and as I mentioned in my first response to you colour question:

There are no spot colours, and the commerical printer is a highly reputable large printing company.

Simultaenous digital out and analog in

Hi. I am running into an issue with the simultaneous AI (analog in) and DO (digital out) with Athena (www.diamondsystems.com) and LabVIEW (see the supplied files): The original program example supplied by somebody (the attached 060126 file) runs fine with these two simultaneous operations.
However, for my specific requirements, I would have to put a frame (flat sequence) around the DO part (the attached 060131 file), followed by another flat sequence frame that changes another DO state. The reason that I must do this is that I have 2 valves which change states as the AI operation continuous to run.
I have noticed though, once I put those flat sequence frames around it, the DO pauses and doesn't perform the operation until the AI loop is stopped. I have tried to create various local variables but the issue persists. Would there be a workaround for this? Thanks.

I have taken a look at your code. Based upon your description,
and the fact that I do not have the driver for your device, I am not exactly
sure where the program is pausing. I can give you some suggestions to
resolve your problem. When you use a flat sequence structure, every piece
of code in a frame has to finish execution before the next frame will start
execution. If you have code in parallel (i.e. digital output and analog
input) in one frame and the same in a second frame the digital output and analog
output in the second frame will not start until all the code in the first frame
has finished execution. In your case it you have a while loops for
digital input and output in the first frame. When both of these loops
finish execution, you should see the second frame start shortly after.
From your description what I believe is happening is that the digital output in
the first frame is finishing and waiting for the analog input to finish.
After the analog input loop finishes the second frame can start. If you
want the second frame's digital output to start before the loop finishes
execution you will need to take that code out of the frame.

Dual Audio Outs? / HDMI and RCA Analog at the same time?

I am trying to figure out if the Apple TV supports dual audio output. My Onkyo receiver supports dual-room/dual-source audio (powered and line-level stereo audio output for 2nd room). The problem is it can only accept an analog source for the second room.
I know that HDMI takes precedence over component video connections if both are connected.
Will the ATV send audio signal out of the HDMI and RCA Analog jacks at the same time so I can enjoy streaming music is two rooms simultaneously?

HT4623 Just updated to iOS is to 7. The phone is stuck in a loop on the terms and conditions of use and I cannot break out and use the phone at all. What can I do?

Hi How do I break out of this loop?

I rebooted my phone by pressing the button on the front and top of the phone at the same time. After the phone restarted, I was able to get out of the do-loop. Hope that works for you.

What happens if you create a coloured rectangle and place it behind the artwork (beneath it in the stacking order as shown in the Layers palette)?

Apple TV (atv) no sound via optical or analog BUT sound through HDMI

Hi all,
This is my first post into the forums. I spent some time searching for problems with Apple TV audio and as a result I think I already know the answer to my question, but would appreciate a second opinion.
My Apple TV is about 1.5 years old (no AppleCare) and has been working fine up until last week. I am using two audio connections:
1) HDMI to the TV (with tiny speakers)
2) digital optical out to the receiver (with bigger speakers... receiver has no HDMI input)
We've been watching videos (youtube, etc) through the TV speakers (over HDMI) for a while, because we we had to keep things very quiet in our apartment. Then one day we wanted to watch a movie, so we turned on the receiver... to the overwhelming sound of silence.
Rebooted repeatedly times, pulled the power cord out, let it cool off, etc etc. Tried a restart via the diagnostic menu... still no output over optical. I tried analog... no sound there, either. I swapped out RCA cables for the analog connections, tested it with a CD player so I know that the cables are good, and the ports on the receiver are good.
So after all that troubleshooting, audio works over HDMI, but not optical or analog.
Then I pulled out the digital optical cord and looked into the port. Sounds silly, but usually there's a red light on when the ATV is on, right? (or for any device with digital optical connections, for that matter). There was no light. I looked at the end of the optical cable, which was still hooked up to my receiver. The tip of the cable was definitely lit up.
So... my guess is that somewhere within the logic board, there's some sort of component failure on the optical/analog outputs. Has anyone had this happen to them?
Now, regarding options:
I read one post in the forum that says the repair cost is approx 2/3 the cost of a new unit... ATV retails on the Apple web site for $229, which pegs the repair price at approx $151. Does that sound right to others? Having taken a look at the teardown guides, I'm sure this will be a "replace the logic board" repair, which will probably be one of the most expensive options.

This may sound simplistic, but just checking to see if you ever went through that process. Also, just curious to see if this setup ever worked for you. In reading your post, it sounds like this is the first time you had ever used your receiver with the ATV.

Break out box question

Is there a break out box that works with Premier CS6 and has a fire wire input? I have a Panasonic psgv320 mini dv camera and need material from the tape imported into Adobe. It uses a dv to fire wire cable.

Break-out-box does not respond, but is powered on

Hey!?Big Problem... my break-out-box doesn't work any more. There is no possibility to use the mute function, IR-control, CMSS-Control or to do anything else with it... simply dead, although it is powered on. LED is green and at the optical out i have a red one shining. I tried cleansweap and reinstall drivers, nothing changed the situation. Cable are correctly connected, i didn't change the last years. I'm also missing the extended connection possibilitys in my "sound and speakers" options... formerly there where a lot more, now there are only?fi've or six controller bars. WHAT HAS HAPPEND? Is it normal that there are three steps with the CMSS options like: CMSS, CMSS2 and STEREO SOUND? I remember that formerly there was also CMSS3... correct? MAybe this is another wrong thing... Try doing a clean reinstall (i.e. backup data, format and reinstall) of Windows yet? Sounds like something else apart from the drivers got corrupted.
