3.5mm headphone jack

I tried searching for this but didn't find anything so I'm sorry if this is answered somewhere else, or if I'm in the wrong spot. I need to know if there is anything that needs to be done to "activate" for lack of a better word, the 3.5mm jack on the Charge. In other words are there settings for it? Turn it on or off?
The reason I ask is that I purchased a Native Union Retro POP handset to use with my Charge. The 3.5mm plug fits my 3.5mm jack but the handset still doesn't work. I emailed the company and they said that I needed a 3.5mm adaptor for my 3.5mm jack (???)
Anyway, they sent that out and it still doesn't work. Before I tear them a new one for having to wait 39 days to receive the adaptor which caused my "window of time to return an item" to expire, I want to make sure that I'm not doing some idiot thing with a setting etc. causing it not to work.
I have no headsets or anything to test with my phone to see if other things work.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Rhonda

Well Davidoo I hate to admit it but I had a true "blonde" moment. That is exactly what it was. I have an Otter Box on the phone and it looked like it was pushed all the way in. I pushed some more and heard the click. Boy do I feel like an idiot.
Thank you very much for solving this problem for me. Now if you can just help me to stop doing goofy things.
Thanks again.
Rhonda

  • 3.5mm headphone jack also optical?

A long time ago, I read somewhere that the 3.5mm headphone jack on some Apple devices is also an OPTICAL port. In other words, one of these adapters can output via TOSLINK cable to my hi-fi stereo optical in. Is it true for the iPad Air? Howz about the iPad Air 2?

That's probably why I can't find the spec for it.
But what Apple device has it? Any?

  • 3.5mm headphone jack snapped off inside headphone port.

    Hi guys,
Last night the 3.5mm jack on the end of my headphones snapped off inside the macbook's headphone socket. Its about 4mm inside the port, and so is on the other side of the first set of copper 'bumps' (i think they are copper, they look it)... anyway, is there any way i can get this out without having to take it into a shop and pay for a repair (warrenty expired last september)?
    Any help hugely appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    Luke

For those of you out there with this problem, here is my story and solution.
I bought my daughter a brandnew Macbook six months ago. Then about one month ago, her friend tripped over an audio lead from her Macbook and the jack snapped off inside her MacBook audio socket.
The Macbook was under warranty, so she took it to the local Apple repair agent. They told her that because it was her fault, this problem was not covered by the warranty. So she paid the usual horrendous service charge for them to evaluate and find a solution. Two weeks later, the Apple Agent called to say that they could not get the jack out, and because it was built-in to the logic board, the only solution was to replace the logic board at a cost exceeding the cost of the new MacBook. Horrified, my daughter went back to the Mac shop, paid the service charge, and decided to live without the audio. As a parting gesture, the Mac agent also kindly reminded my daughter that the rest of the six month warranty was now totally invalidated because it was her fault (even though Apple were the only ones ever to have serviced the computer).
So she took her Macbook home and gave it to her engineering student friend to have a look at. Using a pair of pins, he managed to work the broken piece out within about 10 minutes, and the MacBook audio jack now works fine. Sound is totally restored. Why the Apple repair agent could not have tried a little harder I don't know. But these guys sure know how to make money and fleece the innocents!

  • Is it possible to get both a 3,5mm headphone jack and a 3,5mm microphone jack?

    Hey!
I recently bought a headset for my 2012 MacBook Air, and it came with two cables. One for sound (green) and one for the microphone (pink). The MBA has only got one 3,5mm jack though, so i was just wondering if its possible to use a normal 3,5mm splitter to get both? If so, can i just use a cheap one from DealExtreme?
    Thanks :)

I would not try it, the device was not designed for this and it could destroy the electronics.

  • Headphone Jack has broken - dock adaptor 3.5mm female?

Recently, my 3.5mm headphone jack for my 5.5video 30gb ipod has broken, it only played out of the left channel and is really distorted, is there an adaptor to get the dock connector to connect to my headphones - such as http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-35508-Connector-3-5mm/dp/B000J022G6 but to female. It's also important to keep good sound quality to me, thanks.

There are online places that can replace the headphone jack for you and many have one day turn around service.

  • Headphone jack dead on Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro front pa

I have the Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro running on a 2.4 GHz, Gb PC?with XP Pro. Everything was running perfectly yesterday evening. I went away for about one hour, came back to listen to some music and couldn't hear anything in my headphones. I hadn't made any hardware or software changes since I last used them. The headphones are plugged into the large (6.5mm) jack on the external front panel. The system is recognising them because the speakers mute?when they are plugged in, but no sound comes out. (If I plug headphones into the 3.5mm jack on the little volume control handset coming from the woofer, they work fine). I've tried two sets of headphones and I know that they are OK. In summary:- No sound from front panel 6.5mm headphone jack.- Sound connections and volumes seem to be OK, because speakers and woofer volume control headphone jack work fine.- Headphones are not the problem.- Speakers are muted when headphones are plugged in, but still no sound from 6.5mm jack.- No hardware or software changes since they were last working. HELP PLEASE!

OK problem solved. The flat connector on the card at the back of the computer was very slightly loose on one side only. I could only tell when I actually tried to move it myself - it certainly looked OK. Strange that the audio made it to the speakers OK but not to the headphones!

  • My iPod Touch 4's headphone jack wont keep headphones plugged in! HELP PLEASE!!!

I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation and my 3.5mm headphone jack doesnt want to stay plugged in. it either pops out instantly or doesnt plug in at all. I've gone without headphones for approx. 6 months now and it needs to get resolved so i can actually listen to good quality music.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • Pantech Jest 2 Headphone Jack

I will never understand why the last few phones I have purchased come with a 2.5mm headphone jack rather than a standard 3.5mm, but.....the Pantech Jest 2 is among them.
I have never bothered to try to connect them before because I could never find a set of headphones that would fit the jack.  I recently found an adapter (from 2.5mm to 3.5mm) at Radio Shack and bought 2 so that I could finally use my phones as mp3 players.  The problem is, I have tried both adapters on 2 different Jest 2s, also tried hooking the phone up to regular headphones and also mp3 speakers, and the sound still comes through the cell phone rather than the audio line out.
Is there a setting in the phone that I am overlooking or something?  I have read the manual and there is literally no reference to this or any other issue related to the headphone jack other than that it exists.   Searching turns up other people asking the same question but none have been answered.  Anyone have any ideas?

Yes...I had done the same when I went to Radio Shack, showed them my phone and explained what I needed.  I actually bought 2 because I have multiple Jests, and tried them both.  Not sure why they don't work.  It is simple hardware and shouldn't be dependent on models, etc.
I went in to Target yesterday and found a "headset" package that is made specifically for cell phones and my model was listed, a 2.5mm adapter was included.  I bought 2 of these @ $21 each.  These DO work and I was even able to use a standard audio cable to connect it to mp3 speakers and my car stereo.  However, I am extremely disappointed in the performance of these phones.  When you play the music through the phones speakers, it sounds normal.  But once passed through the jack-which is only capable of mono and not stereo-it sounds terrible.
Frankly I don't know why they bothered to make this phone an mp3 player.  It can't be plugged into any headphones or audio devices and sound as was intended.  Really, MONO?

  • Losing the headphone jack would make me lose my iphone :/

Can someone tell me if this is true? I use an M2M cord to connect my phone to the stereo to use my Sirius phone app. Losing the headphone jack is a dealbreaker for me :/  http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2014/06/05/apple-to-abandon-headphone-ja ck-suddenly-beats-deal-makes-sense/

Apple is only going to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack ONLY from existing phones.
Users will be required to send their current device back for a modification.
New model iPhones released in the future will still have the regular headphone jack.

  • IdeaTab A3000 Mic/Headphone jack and 3G

Hi, just to confirm, the head phone jack is for both a Mic and Headphone, right? so I have to find a head set that has both the Mic and Head set with one singe connection, right?
Plus, does this have 3G, if so how do I use it? is there a SIM card spot in it? Thx

The A3000 3.5mm headphone jack supports the old Nokia (E series)  type of headset. This is called the OMTP format but no one who sells headsets seems to know this. If the headset will work on an old Nokia, not the Windows ones, then it will work on the A3000. The A3000 may also support the American Headset Jack (AHJ) form as modern electronics can detect and configure the jack dynamically. These are used on most modern devices, iPhones for example.
I know the old Nokia headsets work as I have a handful from my E Series phones which I use with my A2107 and A3000. The headphone graphic which appears when headphones are inserted adds a little mic to the graphic when a correct headset is used.
If you have an A3000-F it does not have SIM slots, if you have an A3000-H, then removed the back and find both the microSD card slot and one or two SIM slots. My UK spec -H has two, one for 2G and one for 3G, but the UK firmware does not support voice GSM calling. It does support SMS.

  • Connect 5G to stereo - headphone jack vs. line out

Is it better to connect my iPod to my home stereo using the 3.5mm headphone jack or buying the Apple Dock and using the 3.5mm "line out" (assuming either would go into the "AUX" RCA inputs on my stereo)?
I have read that the "line out" from the Dock isn't a true line out since the click wheel still controls the volume.
Using the headphone jack, as I am now, I have to have the iPod volume up all the way and my stereo up quite high to get adequate volume. Would this still be the case using the Dock?

You get loads better sound with the dock althought you can control it with the clickwheel. Using the headphone jack limits your sound to a small amount while having a line out and connecting it to speakers lets you able to turn your music up as loud as you want. Also has better sound.

I have a digital voice recorder with a 3.5mm microphone and headphone jack and want to transfer some recorded lectures to my mac book pro.  The mac book does not have 3.5mm  jacks.  Does anyone know if a jack to USB converter would work?

Is there a pattern to the time of day or other detail that may be
traced back to a OS X system cause of this odd phenomenon?
Are there any copies of system files on any of the attached USB
external drives? Any libraries, such as iTunes, iPhoto, etc?
Once the drives are indexed by Spotlight, are their permissions
ignored by the OS X? Content, if neutral, should not affect the
wake or sleep cycle; especially if they're ignored by the OS X.
Could there be a bad cable or other component? If so that would
be a difficult process of elimination to detect it. Usually replacing
most suspect components in the USB stream (external to Macs)
is a rote way to mechanically test that idea; & not 100% sure.
Does the equipment all have a good ground to the utility or house
electrical field? An intermittent ground may affect more than sleep.
Hard to say at this point. Maybe a late-night talk radio guru on
remote viewing could peer into your situation and sleuth it out?
Sorry to have run out of ideas, but the process must be electrical
& mechanical to some extent. - Or perhaps odd software inspired.
Do you have any phone-home spyware items inside, just jumping
at the chance to spill your information? Little Snitch may help.
PS: Perhaps the computer needs to go into Apple & have a genius
or product specialist at AASP test the unit thoroughly... BlueTooth?

  • Broken headphone jack! 3.5mm dillemma. Help. Please.

    Hi.
So my headphone jack has broken off clean into two pieces.
The trouble is the 3.5mm jack protuberant is now stuck inside my iTouch and due to the amazing self-locking mechanism of earphone/headphone ends, it will not come out, whatever I do.
Tweezers have not helped, neither has a small magnet.
I'm glad I gave up on the magnet for I have now come to know that the hdd is right next to the earphone socket.
    Anyway, I need help.
How do I get that broken-piece out of the socket?!
    Please. Help.
    Many thanks, in advance.
    - AP.

    Guys,
It is done! It's out! I have achieved what surely seemed impossibe. I mean the things I tried with my iPod Touch, be it tweezers, pliers, glues, toothpicks, ear-buds.
I read about all of these wondorous ideas and plans online, to take out that unholy peice of metal lodged in my iTouch socket.
But anyway, yesterday you guys gave me some good tips. I was about half-way in the decision making process of making appointment with The Store and almost about ready to dive into what Alex suggested up here.
But then this evening, something made me go back to glue.
Glue, the creation of the century. Or well, maybe last century, or the one before that, I'm not sure when glue was dicovered/invented.
Anyway, getting to the point. It's out.
All I did, was make another failed attempt with the squared-off end of a tooth-pick dipped is some superglue. Like always, it stuck to the little golden 1mm protuberant like a charm. One pull, and it came off, while the thing was still lodged inside.
I went back to the headphones. I saw the broken off jack and realized, there was a bit of a cavity at the point where the jack had broken off. So I gave a tiny squeeze to the superglue pen and filled the cavity with just about a single drop of glue. Next, I rammed the headphone jack back into the socket.
I swear I wasn't expecting anything to happen. Barely 10 seconds into the "Eureka attempt", I don't know what came over me and I just pulled on the cord.
And there it was! IT WAS OUT.
    Simple. Effective.
The solution always is right next to the where the problem began.
I should add, the speaker on the iTouch works fine, like everything else.
BUT, when I plugged in my new headphones, there's no output to the RIGHT channel.
I must say, this makes me sad. I don't know if I messed up something with the glue or pliers. Can't say.
I might have done some damage to those tiny silver dot like things on the socket wall which act like the self-locking mechanism for earphones/headphones.
Anyway, if it does end up working again, I'll be sure to let you guys know.
Many thanks again for the help.
    Cheers.
    - An overjoyed AP.
