3.5mm i/o jack (macbook pro 13" i7) splitter?

So i just bought a macbook pro 13" (with the i7) and i was wondering if there's any way to split the input/output jack into two jacks (1 being input, 1 being output) because i use some guitar modulating softwares that require then guitar feed in from the input jack and the amplifier out through the audio out jack. Basically, i need to be able to access both jacks simultaneously. The macbook pro 13 only has one jack for two jobs? im slightly confused as how it works...and i've also heard that the iphone headphones work as a "headset" where both the mic and the headphones work? Your reply is greatly appreciated (:

    Hi Auracles1,
Here's a pretty discussion regarding wireless printing with this device and a Mac.

I have a similar OfficeJet and it was a multi-step process. (1) Install printer drivers on the machine, (2) Add the printer queue in print & fax, (3) Run the "setup wizard" from the disc for wireless printing.

  • Standard 3.5mm Cables and The MacBook Pro

My MBP is just over a year old now.
I have a standard 3.5mm Male to Male cable that I intended to
connect the mbp to my TV (which has a 3.5mm imput jack).
For some strange reason, the 3.5mm Cable will not fit into the
MBP's headphone jack(fits part way but only gives one side of sound).
I was under the impression that the headphone
jack was a standard 3.5mm jack.
If not, what size do I really need.
Really appreciate any help you can provide on this.

I am finding the tablet to be inconsistent with my new macbook pro. When the computer goes to sleep, some of the time I come back and find the bluetooth connection between the computer and the tablet as been broken. Sometimes it's just a matter of reconnecting the devices, but other times, even after running through the new connection helper, the tablet still isn't communicating with the computer and in the end I have to reboot. I have installed the latest drivers from Wacom. Any one else experiencing these issues...

  • Problem with Ethernet ( & or Ethernet Cable Jack )  Macbook Pro 13'3 ( 2010 )

My Ethernet Cable is jacked both in my mac and my router . I just want my mac ( macbook pro 13'3 2010 ) to get an Ethernet ID . Instead besides my router flashes green at the "Ethernet" indication my macbook is just in no mood , in showing the ethernet .
The main problem is that i ve tried almost everything i know . I mean i switched preferences i opened DHCP and closed it many times , and also done some renews , nei a thousand renews . I can not understand what is going on . My mac's ethernet is not ruined i think because of the green light i said before on the router .
It's of paramount importance to me because some music software failed and require further activation , that needs Ethernet ID to build a Challenge Code.
Any help will be loved .
    -cheers

With the ethernet connected, go to... System Preferences/Internet & Network/NetworkUnlock the padlock
    Locations:  Automatic
    Highlight Airport
    Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
    Post back the results.
Your other alternative is to take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Installing a generic unix webclient on my MacBook Pro

    Hello,
I have a small question. I'm trying to install a webclient on my new Intel based MacBook Pro 2.16 Ghz under X11. When I use :source setupunix_3.0.74.bin.sh
the script starts, but at a certain point it says :
This application requires a Java Run Time Environment (JRE)
to run. Searching for one on your computer was not successful.
Please use the command line switch -is:javahome to specify
a valid JRE. For more help use the option -is:help.
Then when I give the instruction: Java -version : it shows
    java version "1.5.0_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-112)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_06-64, mixed mode, sharing)
Am I doing something wrong, is JRE not running or is the generic script not valid for my Mac?
Maybe I can send an email with the script attached to it to an Unix Guru?
    Thanks for any help

  • MacBook Pro Audio Jack Issues

    Hi guys,
So I’m having a really odd issue with my 2009 MacBook Pro 15”. Specifically an issue with my headphone port and my normal 2.1 Logitech speaker system.
I am hearing a buzzing/static/humming (can’t decide) noise from my external speakers when the headphone jack is plugged in. Without performing any action on my Mac, the sound will start, last for about 20 seconds and stop.
I can also manually manipulate this interference issue by doing a few things, like playing  audio from a website/media player; watching videos with a media player or opening any site and allowing a flash file to play (YouTube). These actions seem to manually start this strange sound.
Now for the fun part. Whilst the headphone jack is plugged in, removing my HDMI and Ethernet cables seem to stop the noise completely. Touching the outer port with the HDMI or Ethernet will make the sound return. And when I remove the headphone jack and hold the connector with one hand and touch my MacBook Pro with the other, the sound gets louder - more noise.
I have also tried headphones, I can still hear the buzz It’s just not as loud.
I’ve read that this could be a grounding issue. I’ve unplugged everything and changed MBP chargers. The only thing I haven’t tried yet is different HDMI and Ethernet cables.
    Any ideas?

    Hey there d3adm8n,
This noise you hear when you have coming from the 3.5mm jack sounds to me like it could indeed have something to do with a grounding issue. I would look at the information in the following article about that, named:

  • What is the wiring digram on the MacBook Pro 3.5 mm TRRS jack?

What is the wiring digram for the 3.5 mm TRRS audio jack on the late model MacBook Pros?
I assume this is the same as the iPhone and iPad as well.
    BACKGROUND
I am trying to setup my late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina 15" for studio recording and live broadcast (webinars) leveraging my Mackie 802-VLZ3 mixer.
I used to run this setup on my 2009 MBP (Macbook Pro) 17"; however, that machine met its doom (when I bathed it in 64 oz of beer). So now I am trying to use my 2013 MBPR 15". The main issue here is that the newer MBPs have a single 3.5 mm TRRS jack (vs. the separate 3.5mm separate jacks for headphones and mic on the MBP 17).
So I purchased a 3.5 mm TRRS plug to 3xRCA connectors (red, white, and yellow) cable from Amazon (because I so no such thing in the Apple Store).
          MIXER
    +--------------+      RCA
    | AUX-RETURN-L <<-----(•)--[WHT]----+
    |              |                    |
    | AUX-RETURN-R <<-----(•)--[RED]----+----[3.5mm TRRS]>>[MBPR 3.5 mm JACK]
    |              |                    |
    |     AUX-SEND <<-----(•)--[YEL]----+
    +--------------+
Normally the speakers should be RED (R channel) and WHITE (L channel) and the mic should be YELLOW. However, OS X 10.10 did not recognize the external mic and my mixer only got the left audio from the MBPR.
          MIXER
    +--------------+      RCA
    | AUX-RETURN-L <<-----(•)--[WHT]----+
    |              |                    |
    | AUX-RETURN-R <<-----(•)--[YEL]----+----[3.5mm TRRS]>>[MBPR 3.5 mm JACK]
    |              |                    |
    |     AUX-SEND <<-----(•)--[RED]----+
    +--------------+
In this configuration the MBPR recognized both external speakers and microphone. However, the computer gets no audio from my mixer (unity gain).
So I am trying to figure out the wiring digram as the ground/mic connections might be off.

    Here is an update...
I am using a cable that is like this on the Mac's 3.5 mm TRRS jack:
      | |  Sleeve --> Micropone Tip
      +-+
      | |  Ring 2 --> Ground (both Sleeves)
      +-+
      | |  Ring 1 --> Headphones Ring
      +-+
      \_/  Tip    --> Headphones Tip
While my mac will recognize the external speakers, it does not recognize the external microphone.
    Anyone understand why?

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • Only One FireWire Jack on MacBook Pro - will daisy chaining work?

So I installed L8 on my MacBook Pro and put all the Content and GarageBand Loops on my external Lacie drive via Firewire. I also plan to record to the external drive via FireWire. However I also connect my Onyx 1640 to my MacBook Pro via Firewire.
I've only one FireWire Jack on my MacBook Pro but need two. Is there a work around for this? Can I just plug my Onyx into the External HD and only the HD to my Mac? (Is this daisy chaining?)

Daisy chaining as you described is possible with firewire (as long as you have a device with two firewire ports, of course!), but too much I/O and you can saturate the firewire bus. (How often this happens in reality, I don't know. Anyone?)
If your MacBook Pro has an express card slot, a solution might be to buy a firewire express card/34. That way, you can have the audio interface on the firewire bus, and the hard drive on the separate express card bus. I also think most of the firewire express cards come with TWO inputs, so you'll even get an extra.

  • My MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.2, only audio on the headset, and speaker mute. With Windows, the audio works in speaker and headphone jack. What is the problem? What's the solution?

My MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.2, only audio on the headset, and speaker mute. With Windows, the audio works in speaker and headphone jack. What is the problem? What's the solution?

There is probably a red light on inside your headphone port, indicating that the analog/digital switch in there is stuck in the digital position. Insert a headphone plug and wigle it around, especially in the horizontal plane, as you insert and remove it several times. This will usually unstick the switch and restore normal operation. If it doesn't, the machine will need to be repaired.
This has been a fairly common problem, but in most cases it is easily cured as described above.

  • Can you manually disable the headphone jack on Macbook Pro?

I recently got the tip of a speaker plug stuck into the headphone jack of my 13' Macbook Pro. I tried various things and finally decided that I'd take it in to get repaired. I took it into a store called Jump+ which is an official apple retailer in my town (as we have no nearby apple stores). They attempted to take it out and succeeded at doing so except for a tiny piece of metal (copper) which is in the very tip of the headphone jack.
This causes me to not have sound or use of headphones.
I was thinking of trying the superglue trick however the technician made the piece so small that I won't be able to get enough surface for the adhesive to stick to. He also said that since the peice of metal is copper it won't come out with glue.
I was wondering if there was any terminal code, or any type of overide that is possible without having to replace the motherboard(?) that will disable the headphone jack so I can at least listen to the speakers on my Macbook. There is no chance of me removing this tiny peice of metal by the looks of it.
    Thank you very much.

AFAIK, you can't, it's a hardware switch, attached to the back of the headphone port.

  • Why do regular stereo mini jack headphones no longer work in macbook pro

I have a macbook pro (2009) v10.9.5, 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo. Lately normal non apple stereo mini jack headphones no longer work. The jack doesn't cut the speaker sound as normal. It wasn't like this until comparatively recently. Apple iphone headphones do work.. is this a software or hardware problem?

That is odd.  Try a NVRAM reset:

  • How do I get audio from my macbook pro to my receiver with higher quality than the headphone jack?

I recently got a receiver and surround sound speaker system.  The quality of the audio from the CD player connected to it is far beyond the quality of the audio that comes from the MacBook pro via headphone jack to RCA connection.  This was confirmed by burning a CD from the MacBook, placing it in the CD player then testing the two against each other  -  the same audio piece from the CD player or the MacBook, both connected to the same receiver/speaker set up.  What other options might get better audio quality from the MacBook to the receiver?

The Mac's audio output doubles as a optical Toslink stereo mini jack, just use a adapter to regular Toslink and plug the optical cable to your surround sound system. Fiddle with the sound settings to enable optical output.
Mac's pass surround sound through, they don't do any processing.

  • Headphone jack not working on new Macbook Pro what is causing this?

My 17 inch Macbook Pro is less than two weeks old. The headphone jack does not recognize the headphones about half the time. This occurs with several pairs of headphones and yes, they are ther right size. This is really frustrating on a brand new 3500 dollar machine. What is causing this? It almost seems as if the headphones cannot make contact due to the fact that the connection is too far recessed. I don't live near an Apple store so dealing with this is going to be a P.I.T.A. Anyone have any ideas on how I might fix this issue? Thanks!

Hi, and thanks for your reply. I didn't have a red light emitting from the jack. I had already checked in the sound preferences to make sure the settings were correct. The headphones were not being recognized. This was not working with several differing sets of headphones. I made a phone appt. with Applecare. The laptop PRAM was reset and it works. There is still a bit of a delay when I plug in the headphones before they are recognized and I do feel the port is just a bit "off" as the no headphones plug all the way in. They seem to just sit almost flush but, not quite. However, resetting it resolved the issue to a satifactory level. Applecare said the issue was that not enough power was getting to that function on my laptop. They gave me the case number and I can use it if I have any further problem when I take the laptop in with me to any Apple service center. I was quite satisfied with how this was handled by Apple and if I have anymore issues will follow up.
I love  this laptop but, even though this is working now I do feel that port is somewhat recessed a bit much.
I also want to add that this is my first Mac and despite having had this issue I was extremely impressed with the Applecare call that I got to help resolve this. One of the reasons I went with a Mac was the reputation for service Apple has. I was fed up with Sony to the hilt. I was glad I went with this Mac despite the headphone issue because had I still been with Sony, I'd have been give a major run around to deal with this issue. So far, Apple has tried everything possible to help me with this and assured me should I have any further issue they will immediately resolve it or give me a new machine. WAY better than dealing with Sony! I do not regret going with this MAC headphone issue or not!
