3.6.3 Firefox not remembering active logins.

Firefox 3.6.3 is not remembering active logins, even though through the security page in the options I have it set up to do so. I've tried reinstalling, and tweaking the settings.

Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie that you must allow: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions"
Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the 'Cookies' and the 'Site Preferences'.

  • Safari not 'remembering' webpages login/passwords

I am running Safari 4.0.4. On certain websites(Facebook & My Space among some) it will not remember the login info or show a box to remember it.
How do I get that to happen ?

I'm having the same or similar problem.
I have no idea what's causing it. It seems to have started after backing up my computer, for the first time, on a new external HD using the HD's included auto-back-up software (a 1tb My Book with "SmartWare" software, from Western Digital). There were other bugs which cropped up at the same time. SmartWare kept thinking it was being run for the first time, and Google Notifier kept forgetting my login information.
The problem with Google Notifier seems to have fixed itself, and I uninstalled SmartWare. The only problem left is with Safari.

I can not remember my login password what can i do?

    Hi Amanda,
If it's not a Firmware PW, then...
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Utilities from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access the Menubar at top.

    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Reset Password from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?<br />
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page.<br />
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.<br />

  • Firefox not remembering window size with two monitors

I have a laptop with a monitor attached - both the laptop monitor and external monitor are used as separate desktops. I have Firefox set to open on the external monitor, but it does not remember the last window size: it always opens to the size of the laptop monitor. Firefox is the only program that exhibits this behavior. I have reset, uninstalled and re-installed, yet the same behavior continues. Before re-installing, I've made sure to delete any left over Mozilla/Firefox folders.

As far as I can tell this problem was never fixed and it goes back years:

  • Firefox not remembering passwords

My Firefox remembers a couple of passwords, but for other sites it doesn't. These sites are definitely not listed as exceptions (under Tools, Options etc), and are not blocked by the website (passwords can be stored in IE, Chrome etc). In one case, we have 3 gmail accounts and Firefox will remember 2 of them, but not the third. With that 3rd gmail account, I did select the "never remember this password" option initially, but now want to change that and the website is not listed as an exception, so I can't change it. How do I fix this? Can I completely reset the Firefox password facility?

There are no password exceptions listed at all - that's the confusing thing. And there are no blank entries in Saved (Show) Passwords. There are two saved passwords and both of them function no problems, but I want to have more saved passwords.
Would it make any difference to remove the saved passwords that are there (even though both of them function properly)? Is there any way to reset the whole passwords feature so that when I log in to a site I'll be asked again and will then be able to save passwords?

  • Firefox not remember the homepage

I have recently upgraded to Firefox v 4.0.1, and this version does not remember the homepage that I set. It will remember it (i.e. I can navigate away to another page, and click on the homepage icon, and the correct homepage opens) until I close down Firefox and re-open, then this page http://www.searchqu.com/406
    comes up as the homepage.
    Any suggestions welcome.

Run free malwarebytes from http://www.malwarebytes.org/ to get rid of searchqu and then Firefox should remember your homepage. It did for me.

  • Firefox not remembering my history? Used to, now it is all blank. How to fix?

    * If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar

  • Firefox does not remembe the login name for the user login name on secure sites.

My user got a new computer and I installed the latest version of firefox. It no longer remembers user names on secure sites and the employee does not like the fact that she has to type in her user name every time she needs to log into the site. The browser is set to automatically save user names and passwords.

Please first update your plugins, Flash has a new version.
Does this happen in Safe Mode?
*[[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]
    First troubleshooting steps are:
*[[Control whether Firefox automatically fills in forms]]
It is also possible to check the saved passwords to make sure that the information is saved. On an https site that does not autofill the information for logging in , the username is blank. I removed the entry by right cicking on the page, selecting "Page Info" and under "Security" viewing the saved passwords.

  • Firefox not remembering passwords etc. fix not compatible with ver. 34.05. So what to do?

Was pleased to find a fix for making my computer remember passwords, but NOT pleased to find that it is not compatible with my FF 34.05! How do I fix this or even go back to a previous version? Noticed that on some sites, the Password Remembering KEY does not show, particularly on Banking sites, so no option to save anyhow!

What fix are you talking about?
Current Firefox versions should offer to remember passwords regardless of the presence of autocomplete=off.
Firefox won't offer to remember a password when you are in Private Browsing mode.
Did you make sure that there aren't any exceptions?
You can inspect and manage permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:
*Click the "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar
*Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
*Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab

  • Firefox not remembering last pages

FF is set to open windows & tabs from last time but instead it opens my Home page set of tabs. This only happens on my iMac version of Firefox (I also use it on Windows at work & a Linux netbook; no problem on them). I think I found a response on this forum before but can't find that again.
Is there something different about how it would work on macs? Any way to make FF 'behave' correctly?
    thanks.

Thanks elmac--I have checked History & Privacy and they are set to not clear private data so the application should remember Windows/Tabs from last session which is what I've chosen under Pref-->General.
For the record, I have asked on the Mozilla forums with no response as yet...maybe need to do more rigorous searching of their archives. I vaguely recall it required deleting a file with .js extension and reopening FF that fixed the problem but can't recall where I read this. Also, it doesn't explain what is fundamentally causing this behaviour only on macs.

  • Firefox not remember password fot phpbb forums :(

Firefox have problem with phpbb forum. Password remember function is not functional. Maybe some internet banks too (Opera not have this problem...)

There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page to log you in automatically.
The latter involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.<br />
If this "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you will have to sign in once again.
    * Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
    *do not clear the Cookies
*do not clear the Site Preferences
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.
Some websites like the Yahoo server use autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving form data like name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox store form data like names and passwords.
Note that Firefox won't auto-fill saved form data automatically when autocomplete=off is used, so you need to double-click the empty name field to get a drop-down list.

  • I would like for firefox to remember my logins and passwords but it never asks me if it should when i sign in on my email facebook or anything

I just made the Firefox my default browser.I started moving all my accounts(face book email and few more.
On explorer it would always ask me if i want the explorer to remember my passwords and log ins.
Here every time i have to keep writing everything in.
In my privacy settings i checked that i wanted my passwords remembered

If Firefox does not ask to save passwords, go to Tools, then Options and select Security(not Privacy). Make sure "Remember passwords from sites" is checked. If Firefox asks to save your password but doesn't remember it, then I would guess you're clearing your cookies when you exit. Hope this helps.

  • New Firefox not remembering settings or guessing domains

Ever since I updated to the new Firefox 4.0 it will no longer remember my changed settings.
I changed my settings so that when I type into my location bar it searches on google but now I have to keep changing it as it keeps reverting back to the old settings. Plus, it will no longer perform domain guessing since I updated.

    See:

You can modify the pref <b>keyword.URL</b> on the <b>about:config</b> page to use Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" or Google's "Browse By Name".
