3.9 Bios and CPU temp

I have just installed the new 3.9 bios and have noted the cpu temp was sitting on 50c. It is normaly on about 40c when running at 1730mhz. I dropped it back to 1530mhz and its made very little difference. Anyone else noticed this.

    Dear list,
b3 bios reports cpu temp 10c higher than b5 bios on k7n2 plat after reading posts that b3 is more stable changed back to that so far so good, seems more stable its just that cpu temp was 45-50 c on b5 bios but on b3 in the bios is says 60 c and in core center it now says 40c but was 70c before I re booted very odd indeed, its stable but soemtimes doesn't shutdown have to turn off but thats probely a widnows probelm somewhere.

    yep

I got this one with a heat duct on it. yes its all seated well and clean, just downloaded a corecenter update, cleared the cmos and started again. I am now getting 44 c for the temp now. What the bios says I dont know, could be that I hadnt cleared the bios that the temp was reading wrong.

  • P6N Sli Platinum front audio panel and CPU temp voltage issues

    Hi All,
I got my P6N Sli Platinum yesterday, build up my computer without any major issues. However I have noticed that my audio front panel does not work. It could not detect my microphone when i plug it into front auido panel, it works fine for the rear auido panel though.
Another issues is I highly doubt the accuracy of CPU temp sensor. Msi 's software monitor reports my CPU temp is around 19-20 degree, I know that's too good to be true even I am using a water cooling system. Btw my cpu is E6600. Anyone else has the similar issues?
The third, I notice my CPU voltage is bouncing between 1.1 to 1.24 in CPU-z. And the multiplier is changing from 6 to 9, frequency is changing from 1.6g to 2.4g. I only see this in CPU-z.  Msi 's own software reports CPU running at 2.4g though. Is this cpuz issue or something else?
Finally, any tips to max the overclock potential of this board? I have overclocked to 3.1g but there are some crashes. Going higher the board just won't boot up. I read a review on anandtech.com says 1.22 bios is good for oc. Where can i download that? I only found 1.1 bios on official site.
    Any reply will be appreciated.
    Cheers

C2D-CPUs have a digital internal sensor to monitor CPU Core temperatures.  Have a look at those with Core Temp ( http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/ ).  This Tool reads the temperature data directly from the register of your CPU. There is nothing wrong with the sensor.  It is rather the MSI tool that does not read the data it provides correctly.

There is no issue.  What CPU-Z allows you to see there is the C1E-feature of your CPU at work.  When there is nothing to do your processor will automatically reduce Core Voltages and frequency to save power and keep temperatures down.  As soon as the work load increases the multiplier is set back to x9 and core voltages increase dynamically.  It is meant to be a good thing.
I have overclocked my system a little and I like that the C1E feature is still working at this speed setting CPU frequency to 2GHz and core voltage to 1.144v when my system is idle.
If you have problems with this feature you can turn it off in BIOS. The option is labeled as "C1E Support" and might be hidden somewhere.  You may be able to hit "F4" to unhide it.
The MSI utilities are not the best tools to monitor your system.  CPU-Z, Core Temp, Everest, Speedfan, Memset, Rightmark Memory Analyzer for example do a far better job.

  • Updated bios increased cpu temp?

I updated my bios from 1.7 to 2.1 and my cpu temp has went from an idle of 50 which isnt good anyways to an idle of 60.  I flashed because when i went inot ht menu the bios would freeze and pc need manual reboot.  Also theres alot of new options in the bios now anyone have a guide?

If you are overclocking, back down on the overclock to reduce the temps.  What type of thermal transfer material are you using on the cpu heatsink?  If too much is applied, it can restrict the thermal transfer.

  • AGP Aperture size??? and CPU temp???

    1. i have changed the Aperture size to 128Mb (instead of 64) and every time i enter a game, after at least 20 minutes (sometimes less) it kicks me out back to windows.
when i played generals it told me that i might have had a hardware malfunction... which is weird cause i have a new computer.
when i returned the aperture size back to 64, it worked fine, only slower... any ideas...?
    2. my CPU reached some interesting tempretures, and i have a lot of airflow... the question is this, when i'm not running any porgram (IDLE time) my cpu sits at around 43 degrees, when i do run stuff (like games, or graphic progs) my CPU rises up to 58, and i even reached 62 once...
is this logical? shouldn't P4 CPU's be cooler then AMD's? how can i force a change on the CPU cooler to work faster (when i change it through Core center the max i get is 4500rpm), can i make it higher?
    thanx in advance, EagleIL.

    OK,
I have just finished assembling my 865PE monster. I must say, MSI is consistent, the only issue I have seen with them is 2 things:
    1. They will never learn to measure CPU temperature correctly.
    2. Bios updates never seem to improve things much, or can be a disaster.
Other than that, I checked my temps, and with a side fan and a rear fan and a blower (pci slot turbo blower) out, I had 26-28 deg C at startup (cold iron). My CPU temp was 48 deg C which is physically impossible, and the reported case temp was 38 deg C in the bios but 28 deg c on my independent temp system.
I rearranged everything with side out and reversed one of the rears to blow in, and I have a steady 22-23 deg c after 6 hours. The CPU still reads 48 deg c and climbes to 50-52 under load. The reported case temp is still 38 deg c and climbs 1-2 deg. So I do not believe the temp readings.
I also do not believe all the hogwash about the CPU coolers. The stock Intel cooler has always worked fine for me, and I remember a report that said it was one of the best, in a test against a bunch of them a year or so back. There is good reason for this (I work for Intel, so I know it is not made up): They package the cooler with thier retail chips and also provide them to OEMs. They have to take all the measures possible to ensure the CPU survives the 3 year warranty and the only thing (99%) that will kill a CPU is heat. The heat removal rate of the stock heat sink is sufficient to overcome even the extra heat from OC'ing for the most part, as they test it for that. I believe the rates are posted on the website.
I would say the AGP issue is possibly related to heat effecting the memory on your agp card, or a software issue with the AGP drivers themselves. I would reccomen you revert to another card and try the same scenario if you can. There may be issues using the 128 setting itself.
Good luck. I thought this board would be a nightmare, but it has performed flawlessly with XP Pro, 2.6C, 512 meg ram (CL3!!!)(Elixer), and a Radeon 9000 Pro. I loaded Office XP Pro/Frontpage/Adobe and ran all three with no issues at the same time.

  • Vcore and CPU Temp

    Hi Guys,
Is it safe to run the CPU Vcore at 1.6V for long term day to day use ? I need this voltage to keep my system stable (i.e. running 2 X Prime 95 for over 24 hrs). On some fourms, I was told it is ok so long as the voltage don't go above 1.65V yet on another fourm, I was told never to exceed 1.58V. Not too sure which one to trust so will just try on this MSI fourm
Has anyone actually measure the CPU temp with an external temperature probe and compare the result with the temp. reading off the mobo (i.e. thru' corecentre, Speedfan etc) ? I'm just wondering how accurate are those temp reported by the MSI mobo ...
My current temp via Speedfan running 2 X P95 (100% load):
    CPU: 53C-54C
    System Temp: 32C
    Room Temp: 24C
    NB: 51C
If I switch off my aircon, my CPU temp could shoot up to 57C to 58C at room temp of 28C-29C.
I think the above temp is a bit on the high side (as compared to ASUS board) hence I'm questioning the accuracy of the mobo temp reading...
    Here is my rig:
    P4 2.4C @ 3.2 GHz
    MSI 875P NEO FIS2R
    Thermalright SP-94 with 80mm TT SF2 Fan
    Corsair 3200LL PRO 512Mb X 2
    Ratio 5:4
    RAM Timing: 2-3-2-5-8
    PNY FX5800
    2 X WD 120GB SATA HDD
    TDK DVDRW0404N Dual Format Writer
    Audigy 2 Sound Card
    480W Antec True Power
Thermaltake Xaser III V2000A Alu Casing

Ok, I've taken out the Audigy card, and no, I still need to pump up my Vcore to 1.6V to keep Prime 95 stable.
    If Vcore = 1.525V, 2 X P95 fails within the first hour.
    If Vcore = 1.5875V, 2 X P95 fails after 13 hrs.
So I guess my mobo is not affected by the Audigy card

Just wonder if the Audigy card is so power hungry that it draw so much current from the mobo that one need to increase the Vcore and Vdimm to keep things stable...
With the Audigy card, my voltage settings are:
    Vcore: 1.6V
    Vdimm: 2.7V
    VAGP: default voltage
    DOT: Disabled
    MAT: Turbo
Will see if I could maintain at default Vcore if i remove the card.

I can get very stable overclocks with my 2.4C at much lower VCore and VDimm voltages if I just remove the Audigy card.
I have to keep my VCore at 1.70V with the Audigy installed. My CPU is idle at 32-35 degrees, so I'm not too worried about it dying on me (plus, it's only a cheap 2.4C).
Just to give you an idea, I'm running the following:
    2.4C at 3.0 GHz (250 FSB)
    MSI 875P-FIS2R (BIOS: 1.8)
    1GB Mushkin Level II (5:4, 333MHz @ 2-2-2-6)
    SoungBlaster Audigy
    DOT: Disabled
    MOT: Fast
    VCore:  1.70V
    VDimm: 1.85V
    VAGP:   1.70V
Now, *WITHOUT* the Audigy card, the same system works stable at:
    DOT: Disabled
    MOT: Ultra-Turbo
    VCore:  1.60V (possibly even lower)
    VDimm: 1.70V
    VAGP:   1.60V
I know it sounds hard to believe, but *Reilly* will definitely back this claim up. Just take the Audigy card out and see what your results are. ALSO, I have read postings in ASUS board forums that PCI slot 3 works much better with the Audigy than any other. Can't confirm that, though.
    Post your results!!!!

  • Fan speed and CPU temp

    Hi There,
    I have MBA 13'' Mid 2011.
I'm little bit concerened about Temp of my CPU which is 96°C, and Fan speed is around 6500rpm.
I can hear my fan all the time.
It was not like this always and i'm kind of sure that something is causing this.
I worked before with lots of apps open (itunes, photoshop, text editor, chrom, mail, parallels..) and fan and temp was not this high.
Is there way to find out what is causing this high usage?
    Thanks in advanced

    First execute a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If no change, install istat menus.
    http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
Open Activity Monitor to ALL PROCESSES and CPU.  Make certain that CPU displays values from high to low.
Post images of both istat menus and Activity Monitor whe the MBA has heated up.
    Ciao.

  • Memory and CPU Temps

Does anyone know if adding more memory would have any effect on CPU temps? It seems that after I added a 512 stick (giving me a tottal of 1gig) my temps have gone up...befor I could over clock this baby to 2.04 with temps in the low 50's even under a work load. Now I cant even clock it without it crashing and temps jumping up to in the 60's with just mild work load. Have removed the Volcano 7 and re-applied greese to it and even tried a stock intell HSF but to no avail. I have not tried to remove the newly installed mem stick to see if in fact that is the problem, wanted to see what your expierances were in this matter. I can say this though and your gonna yell I know...One stick is Samsung and the other is Mitsubishi I belive (at leat the Mitsubishi symbol is on the chips) I cant think that that would make any differance but my knowledge in memory is not that great.
Any input would be cool...my specks are below!
One other word of note, these high temps are with the fan running in low, but even when overclocked I only ran in low, as the high setting on this beast is ever so loud, so if you have any suggestions, by all means list them.
    Thanks People!
    Paul

    Assaf,
Well that did not work, still have high temps, do you think that maybe the cpu it self is going? After all, I was overcloking it for many many months straight. A 1.7 celly running at 2.04 is a pretty significant increase. Think maybe it finaly took it's toll on it??
If so good thing I am looking at a 2.8 P-4
Let me know if thats possable
    Thanks,

  • What is the CPU usage of X and cpu temp on your Arch?

I just installed the new arch 2009 02. Everything seems to be perfectly out of box, I have lxde DE.
But I noticed that in idle X is using around 2~3% cpu compared to below 1% in the old Arch I had before. It seems there is a little lag in the desktop experience, not obvious though, but not as responsive as my old Arch. Also the cpu temperature under lm_sensors gives me 43 constantly compared to 39 in my old Arch?! This is not some random sample of temperature, I constantly monitored it to realize it indeed runs hotter.
Also, when I open one mplayer, it uses 40% cpu + 20% for X. If I open 2 mplayer, fan will go noisy and cpu hit full and both videos become choppy! This never happened in my old Arch. I search the forum for quite a while, but have not found exactly the reason.
Some help or information? Greatly appreciate it.:D

    Shuttle XPC sn68sg2
    Athlon x2 5200+ 2.7Ghz

Hmm interesting.  How old was the "old arch" you are talking about?
Because if it was quite a while ago that you ran Arch and recorded those temperature readings, I might wonder if your hardware is aging or dust is gathering inside your computer case, decreasing air flow and increasing temperature.
My laptop also runs almost constantly around 43 degrees and about the same at X idle.  This seems normal to me though.

  • L530 BIOS and CPU upgrade problems

I recently upgraded the cpu in my E520 from a 2520M to a 2760QM. Though the cpu was not officially supported, it worked perfectly without so much as a bios update. It even benchmarks above passmark's average.
Smash cut to ebay a couple weeks later where I picked up a L530 and a 3720QM in an attempt to pull the same trick on an Ivy Bridge system. I installed the new cpu and it didn't post. Just some beep errors.
After doing quite a lot of research and buying a spi programmer I have tried the following:
    Updating the BIOS (beep errors)
    Updating the microcodes (beep errors)
Flashing a coreboot rom based on the T530 (would not even power on)
And flashing a rom with all microcode related data replaced with W530 code (still booted old processor, but gave beep errors with the 3720QM)
So this leaves me with a question. What could I be missing? The sockets and chipsets are compatible. It has got to be a BIOS problem. Is there a CPU whitelist I am not aware of?
I have not really been able to find any further information and any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Good news for Winchester users and CPU temp. reading after S3 suspend

Bios 3.95 seems to solve all my previous problem with CPU temperature readings after S3 suspend state.
Now the temperatures are after S3 the same as before (15 degree C lower). So Speedfan's control of fans is more precise now. My CPU fan is stopped all the time, in case of warning temperature 50 deg.C, all fans go on 100% (including CPU). With this BIOS I am for the first time fully satisfied with this board.
Cool'n'Quiet is working and S3 as well. I haven't noticed any problem yet.

yo wabrooke, it's amazing u managed to swap out the bios chip from the HP computer set, I got mine same as well. Is that a tedious job? Can give me some guidelines to do it as well? if not, i guess i'm going to change back to dfi soon.
no, very simple. Just turn off your system, unplug the machine, use a paperclip or something similiar, pry the bios chip upwards and pull out (make note of which way the notch is facing), insert the replacement chip, viola! Now you have pretty much the MSI oem board. I think I've heard some boards are red or something (the MSI boxed boards), unless that was an older revision, but other than that, everything else is the same. The only main thing is, if you switch out the bios chips, you can no longer run the disc image to restore the hard drive, which isn't a biggie to me, since I purchased an OEM copy of Windows XP MCE, and I also have and run Windows XP Pro.

  • Pls advise PSU and CPU temp.

At last i have decided to go for Herolchi HEC 525w Dual Fan Ball Bearing ATX Power Supply, after installing the New PSU my CPU Temperature go up by 3 degree...not sure whether all the RAIL will effect the temperature ?
Pls take a look on my comparison : -
    Old PSU Young-Year 480W (Taiwan)
    Vcore    : 1.48 ~ 1.50
    + 3.3v   : 3.10 ~ 3.17
    +   5v    : 5.08 (no changes)

    System  : 35 ~ 38 degree
    CPU idle : 40 degree
    full load  : 57 degree (Prime95 & CPU burn-In)
New HEC 525W (recommded my Intel and AMP)
    Vcore    : 1.47 ~ 1.50
    + 3.3v   : 3.30 ~ 3.36
    +   5v    : 4.97 ~ 5.0
    +  12v   : 11.76 ~ 11.88 (never hit to 12.00)
    System  : 36 ~ 39 degree
    CPU idle : 43 degree
    full load  : 60 degree (Prime 95 & CPU burn-in)
Understand that all the variance for the above RAIL are within Spec +_ 5%
Hi All, pls help to post all your RAIL lowest/highest for +3.3v, +5.0v and +12v..as well as system/CPU temperature, thanks....

I would not worry about the extra 3 Deg. C that the CPU is now running at. 60C under full load is well withen normal specs. ..As for the new PSU, I am not familiar with that brand...If you could ,would you POST the AMPS on the RAILS, as that is more important than the Volts...You can find the AMP specs. on the side sticker of the PSU..ie..+12V=?A, +3.3V=?A, +5.0V=?A...THANX..Sean REILLY875

  • Fan speed and CPU temp viewing Flash video in Firefox vs. Safari ?

My MacBook (two months old) running the latest Safari version (3.1) seems to be working unbelievably hard when viewing a flash video. The temps seem to cycle between the high 60s and mid 70s, and the fan blows at max speed constantly. On the other hand, when viewing the same flash videos using Firefox (2.0.0.12), there is only a slight boost in temp (high 50s to low 60s) and the fan speed hardly increases at all.
    Has anyone else noticed this?
Why would the flash player on one browser be so much more efficient than another (Safari seems to labor, while Firebox breezes along)?

    Thanks!
Well I guess the code in the Safari browser just wasn't well written. This is true even of the later version of Safari. It does work much better in FireFox, with no crazy heat-up or fan action.
I've pretty much given up on Safari now on everything by my iPhone and iPt, and only because I have no other choice.

  • Battery Lifetime decreases and CPU Temp. raises with OSX Lion

Recently, I have installed the OSX Lion on my MacBook Pro (bought in November 2009).
Now my device gets really hot and the fan is blowing continuousely.
When I'm checking the activity, I see, that "Dashboard" needs a lot of capacity.
Furthermore, the battery works for less than 5 hours (was 8 hours before).
Is someone having the same problems?

you may want to remove some of your widgets in dashboard as they might not be compatible with lion.

  • CPU Temp and CPU Fan Speed

I am having a strange problem . One time I will boot the PC and CPU temp is 43 and CPU fan speed is 1308 rpm in Core Center. I do a restart system and the CPU temp is 32 to 36 and CPU fan speed 3308. Not sure if I should trust Core Center . Bios shows CPU temp 48 and fan speed of 3328. I have been reading here that there are a bunch of threads containing some kind of problem with CPU temp or fan speed. My Bios is 1.4. If anbody can give me some ideas that would be great.

Open CoreCenter on deshtop.  Click where it says CoreCenter.  Click Cool&Quite button. Then Click apply.  This drops the fan speed back into the 1400 range and the temp will rise back to the 40s.
