3 beeps from comp. itunes won't read

I plug my 3rd gen. ipod into my Windows XP after not using it for a couple of weeks, I then hear three quick, low beeps from the computer. Then I decide to wait a while and nothing happens, itunes won't pop up. I click on the little USB icon on the bottom right corner and it says that there is an ipod that's plugged in. But, itunes itself won't detect it. PLEASE HELP

I am also having the same problem with about 200 of my MP3s. The tag info shows up perfectly using QuickLook on Leopard, but in iTunes I can't see any of the info. I have tried converting the ID3 tag version, revesing the unicode....nothing.
Have you had any luck?

  • ITunes won't read ID3 tags that Windows sees

I recently switched my library over from a Mac laptop to a PC desktop. I have about 70 GB of perfectly organized music accumulated over years and years.
In the process, after I loaded some songs into iTunes (using the Keep My iTunes Folder Organized and all that stuff), I noticed that about 10 GB of music were without titles, artists, or album info, and just displayed the name of the MP3 file (so like instead of displaying 15 Step by Radiohead from In Rainbows, Track 1 it displayed "01 15 Step" in the Title column only).
The problem is that when I navigate to these songs in Windows Explorer, not only do I see all of the correct ID3 information, I see the extras like Album Art have loaded perfectly as well. I can play these songs in Windows Media Player and the ID3 info is perfect.
Does anyone know why iTunes won't read these ID3 tags or how to get iTunes to read them?

  • Itunes won't "read" because it was created by a newer version of itunes

I just updated my operating system finally and when I try to open itunes I get : itunes won't "read" because it was created by a newer version of itunes.

This error prevents iTunes from launching. The library file was modified to work with the newer iTunes version, so it is no longer compatible with the previous version. The good news, however, is that Apple does backup the iTunes library file into a subdirectory that you can use to revert back to the previous version.
To recover a previous version of the iTunes Library.itl file, use the following steps:
Open up your My Documents\My Music folder.
We will first backup the current version. Rename iTunes Library.itl to something like iTunes Library.itl.bak.
Go into the My Documents\My Music\Previous iTunes Libraries folder.
You may see several files that start with iTunes Library and have a date included in the name. Copy the newest file in the folder.
Go back to the My Documents\My Music and paste the file from the previous step.
Rename the new copied file to iTunes Library.itl.
Your library should now be restored to the previous version of iTunes, and you should no longer receive the message.

  • OS 10.7.5, iTunes 11.0.1, and iOS 6.0.2 ... everything is updated, but iTunes won't read iPhone 5 or iPad. Suggestions?

OS 10.7.5, iTunes 11.0.1, and iOS 6.0.2 ... everything is updated, but iTunes won't read iPhone 5 or iPad as devices. Syncing was easy before recent iTunes update. Suggestions?

Are you using the correct cables.  iPod cables look similar, but are not, as they are 1.1 USB cables, where your iPhone and iPad require a 2.0 USB cable.
Also, make sure you are not plugging your USB cable into a Hub or keyboard USB port, but one directly on the computer.

  • Itunes won't read cd text

I just got a new compouter and downloaded iTunes. When i insert mix cd's that I made on my last computer's iTunes and included cd text it won't read them. Any help so I don't have to manually update thousands of songs?

That particular script was designed to export data from an iTunes library, and then reimport it. The original idea was to use it to restore an old database from the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder, export selected data, restore the original database and then import the saved data. It would also be possible to use it to manipulate the exported data with something like Excel before reimporting. The script relies on the fact that each track can be identified by its unique ID which should normally remain the same as your library is updated over time. For your purpose matching track numbers within the selection of the tracks from a single CD would serve the same function if working one CD at a time. I can't offhand think how I would do automatic CD identification from within a larger database. I suspect MediaMonkey is the easiest way to go.

  • Moving library - iTunes won't read my iPod

Hi there - I am desperate for help with my ipod!
I just moved back from the UK, where my itunes/ipod was registered. Before I left, I followed the instructions on the apple site, deauthorised my old computer, and used my ipod as a hard drive to copy my library onto my ipod as a data file.
I am now in Australia and have downloaded the latest version of itunes, as well as the ipod updater.
When I plugged my ipod in to the USB port, itunes didn't read that my ipod was there. I tried to run the updater. It said update required, but wouldn't allow me the option to update, only to restore.
I have reset my ipod and plugged it in to the external charger but updater still won't allow me to update, it only selects Restore as an option. I have also checked Windows XP for updates etc as suggested on the apple site.
I don't have my library saved anywhere else except my ipod, so obviously if I choose restore, I lose my entire library. The thought of this makes me feel sick!
    Help!!!!!!
    Thanks

  • ITunes won't read ID3 tags

So long story short, I lost my iTunes library and had to re-import all of my songs. Problem is, iTunes isn't reading the ID3 tags correctly, and most of my music has "unknown" under artist, album, etc. Normally, it wouldn't be a big deal to just go through my library and update the information for the tracks manually. But I have a LOT of music, and it would take forever to do so for my entire library. I use iTunes whenever I import CDs or purchase music, so the ID3 tags were all originally created by iTunes itself, which doesn't make any sense. All of the ID3 information (track names, artist, album, etc.) is showing up fine in Explorer and Windows Media Player, so I'm not sure why iTunes isn't recognizing it. Any ideas?

I suspect the tracks have multiple tags which iTunes doesn't cope with. Each mp3 file should have a single ID3v2.3 tag for best results with iTunes. Some software creates both ID3v1 and ID3v2.x tags when creating mp3s. If these are edited with iTunes it may update one tag, but then later read back unchanged data from the other. MediaMonkey has some useful tools for cleaning tags, assuming that is the problem, and you can determine which version needs clearing out. Test with small samples to make sure.

  • ITunes won't read my iPod Classic, but Windows does; tried many solutions!

    Hey Apple Support Community,
I wasn't sure whether this post belonged in the iPod forum or the iTunes forum as the matter concerns both, so I decided to post in both forums. My apologies if this is 'spammy'. (iPod forum is a little old anyway).
I just dug up my 6 year old iPod Classic from the grave and would like to start using it again as my HTC's headphone jack is extremely faulty lately. My iPod Classic is completely empty - I have no music, no photos, nor videos on it.
My problem is that on my Windows 8 Laptop, Windows is able to read the iPod, however, iTunes cannot. I went over to the Support page and tried almost every recommended solution out there, and nothing seems to work.
    I have:
    Tried different USB ports
Performed a Restore/Recovery after selecting 'Format' from Windows ExplorerIt is interesting to note that, whilst iTunes doesn't read the iPod normally, it did show up in the button (Spotlight button?) next to the iTunes button when performing a Restore
Uninstalled and Reinstalled every Apple application and program from my Laptop, including iTunes, Mobile Support, Bonjour, and more, and also, deleting any remaining folders related to Apple.
I have tried alternatives to iTunes such as CopyTrans and Syncios, but all seem to fail.
    Troubleshooted my iPod various times
Restarted any Apple related Service as well as any Processes from Task Manager
Searched for Updates on Device manager -> Apple Driver and everything is up to date
    It's worth pointing out that:
When opening the iPod folder in Windows Explorer (after enabling Hidden Folders), inside the 'iPod_Control' folder, there is no 'Music' folder; not sure if this is intentional or simply because there is no music file on my iPod.
The Software Version (which displays prior selecting 'Restore') is 2.0.1. If this is outdated, the option to Update Software is greyed out and unavailable.
My iTunes is up to date.
iTunes does tend to freeze up when attempting to read the device, but is perfectly fine after a while, it just does not display the device (implying it must have failed to detect it).
It is the first time using iTunes on this laptop (laptop is 4 months old), and has never had an Apple Device connected to it before.
iPod and iTunes used to work fine 6 years ago on a different PC which is no longer at me.
If anyone could shed some light on this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. Please do not hesitate for any further information related to both iPod or Laptop.

Hey, thanks for your reply. I ran Diagnostics and the results are as follows:
    Retracts: 38
    Reallocs: 56
    Pending Sectors: 8
    PowerOn Hours: 165
    Start/Stops: 12666
    Temp: Current 29C
    Temp: Min 15C
    Temp: Max 52C
I heard that a large number of Reallocs is bad; not sure if 56 qualifies as a large number. Would this somehow interfere with iTunes not being able to read the iPod?
EDIT: Your instructions say to attempt another Diagnostics after updating however my iPod will not update past 2.0.1 (I believe that is the last update that came out for iPod Classics), unless you'd like me to recover/restore it and then try again.

  • Itunes won't read CD  - Need Help!

Persisting problem! Itunes won't recognize my CDs though Windows media player reads and plays no problem. Went to Apple site and did all steps suggested, watched "how to" video on topic of ripping CDs, upgraded to version 6 itunes, upgraded firmware for my CD player. (Actually have 2 players and neither works with Itunes) The CD diagnostics in Itunes sees the CDs noting that "Audio CD reading succeeded". Go figure. It WON'T show the tracks and when I go to File - Import a dialog box opens for my drive but no content shows. HELP - I just got three of these for my family but it won't work!

  • ITunes won't read my backed up music on CD.

I'm trying to play them in iTunes....ok so I insert the disk (CD) and it shows the name of the CD but nothing happens with iTunes (I have it set up to play auto) so I try to add to library it starts but then after processing 13 or so songs it says it can't write or read them or something. I'm.....mad I bought all my music on CD's over thousands of $$$ worth and someone stole them from me 3 years ago now all I have are these mp3's on 13 CD's and iTunes can't read them when they where made by iTunes by me and my bought CD's at that. Someone please tell me there is something I can download to fix this problem? I'm about to loss it a bit. Please help.

How old is the CD drive? Is it the original drive? Old drives can often have problems, especially with burned media. I've seen lots of computers younger than yours that have required replacement optical drives (fortunately a matter of $30). Have you tried reading the files on another computer, hopefully one with a newer drive?
What quality was the media? Cheapo CDs? Poor quality CDs can go bad and are harder for marginal drives to read. Were they stored carefully? Burnable CDs stored in the light can yellow.
You say, "it can't write or read them or something". I understand your frustration but reporting the exact error message is critical to receiving help on a forum like this - we can only work with the information you provide. I suspect it is a read error, and that could be due to a bad drive and/or bad CDs. I have some files backed up on CDs but I always make sure I use archival grade media, and I make two copies.
Try dragging the files from the CD to an actual folder on your computer.
