3 beeps, pause, 3 beeps... til I unplug it!

Is there documentation anywhere that tells me what these beeps indicate? I am trying to figure out where we went wrong I got a new motherboard, Kt3Ultra2, new CPUm, new fan, new power supply (350 w) and new RAM. I need to know which pieces to start checking with.
Someone tells me that there are really intelligent people here who can tell me what the beeps generally indicate to get me started in the right direction. Are any of you intelligent people reading tonight and feeling chivalrous?

  • IMac responds to power-up with "beep-beep-beep-pause" repeat.

When I push the power button to power up my iMac (early 2009; 24"/2.66GHz/4GB) it responds with a series of beeps with the pattern of "beep-beep-beep-pause" and repeats until I power it down. The fan turns on, but I can't detect any other response. Does anyone know what this means?
    Thanks...

  • 27" iMac 3.2 i7 won't start. Emits 3 'beeps', pause, repeats.

    My 27" iMac 3.2 i7, 20GB RAM won't start. Emits 3 beeps, pause, 3 beeps, pause.

Here's a link to an Apple support page that describes the possible Startup tones.
Mac computers: About startup tones - Apple Support
The short answer is here. Looks like your RAM is bad.
1 tone, repeating every 5 seconds: This indicates no RAM is installed.
3 successive tones, a 5 second pause (repeating): This indicates RAM does not pass a data integrity check.
1 long tone while holding down the power button: Indicates an EFI ROM update is in progress on a computer manufactured before 2012.
3 long tones, 3 short tones, 3 long tones: Indicates EFI ROM corruption is detected and the computer is in EFI ROM recovery mode.

  • KT3 ultra2 going BEEP BEEP BEEEEP BEEP!

I dont know if anyone looked at my other thread or not about memory problems, but i think its something else now.
its a hit and miss when i turn my computer on, it will turn on properly or go BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEEEEEP BEEP BEEP till i turn it off in the back.
weird thing is after i reset the power in the back, it works again.
Once in windows though, everything is perfect. no errors in memtest, can loop 3dmark, can do 3 hours of burn in test and play all sorts of games. I can even leave the computer on all day and night with ZERO problems.
the problem only happens when i first turn the computer on.
    any ideas?
    My sig: KT3 ultra2, 2x512meg pc3200 shikaram, 9700pro, 160gig maxtor, 56k modem, Lan card, SBlive5.1,

i wrote my new sig below my problem.. ignore the sig in my profile pls.
to add to this problem, sometimes when it boots up, there is a blank screen and the HDD led stays on with no beeps at all.
seems like my computer doesnt like cold boots anymore. I have to cycle the power in the back and reset a few times in order to get it to work.
i wonder if its the motherboard?
also sometimes when i boot up, all i see is the AMI bios picture and nothing else. other times when i boot up, all i see is the bios screen for the video card. go figure
anyone else think its the motherboard or the power supply? PS is about 3 yrs old and mobo is about 3 yrs old as well.. everything else in system is pretty much new

  • Click beep click beep...

When I try to start my G5 tower I get the normal chime, then it starts going "click beep click beep click beep..." and won't start. Eventually the flashing "no system" comes up. I can get it started off my firewire drive but there is no sign of the internal drive. The click sounds mechanical and the beep is quite high and sounds a bit more like an electric tone. Any suggestions how I might get it to mount? Many thanks

Depending on where the clicking sound is coming from (is it from of the machine, or in the back where the hard drives are located?), it sounds like the drive might be failing. I'd boot into your FW drive and open up Disk Utility to see if you can mount the internal drive, or if it's even recognized for that matter. Even if it isn't the drive, I'd still copy over all your essential data immediately just as a precaution.

    Hi Guys,
My pc is not booting up, all I recieve is a blank screen with 1 (normal) boot beep which are then followed by 2 short beeps after 2 secs or so.
(something thats quite weird, my numlock key is light up and toggle when I press it)
    Did cmos reset, same thing.
It is not my gfx card because when I remove it i get the "1long 2 short" beep sound.
    Please any sugestions?

I am having a similar issue to this and I'm not sure what the beep codes are for this mobo.
Anyway, I just installed a brand new kingston hyperx 120gb SSD into my desktop which already had a 1tera SATA HD in it.  Fresh install of windows, but the data from my old HD was never erased so I can still access all of that data.  Everything seemed fine for about a day but now when I boot up my PC after a few minutes on the desktop screen whether I am actively opening/closing programs or leave it idle.  My computer begins to beep repeatedly and continuously until I shut down my CPU.
Any ideas on where to begin?  I've no idea where to begin other than uninstalling the new SSD but obviously I just don't understand how the install could have gone wrong in the first place.  As far as CPU overheating the temperature controller display on the front of my desktop never goes over 50 degrees C.
Did not want to create a brand new topic as this one was already which was pretty much the same thing, just maybe a different beep code associated with it from the sounds of it.
Thanks in advance for your help!  Really would like to use my desktop again without being barked at by it.

  • Imac I3 hangs, 3 long beeps, pause, 3 long beeps, etc - requires hard restart to clear

Recently added two 2-Gig memory sticks (now 4 of them).  One of the adds does not show mfr or serial number, but does show "OK"
No other changes, but beeps don't stop until reboot.

I think yoy still hve some bad RAM.
The Memory test can really only be trusted if it finds a problem, not if it doesn't find a problem.

  • T431s - 5 beeps, pause, 5 beeps on restart - boots fine - security chip

Finally received a T431s (win 8 pro) but it's beeping right out of the box. Seems to only beep from a warm reboot. Starting from cold (completely off) doesn't beep.
Disabling the security chip seems to resovle the beeps, but then I can't use the fingerprint reader or bitlocker. Setting it to inactive seems to eventually turn it to active by itself (after a restart) resulting in beeps again. Tried clearing the TPM but results in the same beeps...
Pretty annoyed that it's having issues right out of the box. Anyone else with a T431s having the same issue?
Additionally, I can't seem to access the bios from a cold start no matter how fast I press the F1 key, or what keys I press. It refuses to get interrupted. The only way I can access the bios is allowing the system to come up, restart, and then interrupt boot.

Here is some more information about this problem:

It seems like there is an ongoing investigation about this issue.

  • BEEP: Hardware: BEEP: CD Drive: BEEP: ***?

    Yeah, title says it all.
I've been helping a friend of mine upgrade and clean up an old AGP G4. What we have experienced is that when you use the CD-R drive, the computer will hang a little, then eventually freeze altogether. We would also hear an occasional BEEP from inside the machine, when this was happening. (I assumed this was the computer telling us something was not quite right)
I decided that we would unplug the CD drive from the logic board to see what our results were then. He used the machine for a few days with no hanging, no freezing and no BEEPing.
Next thing I did was replace the G4's original CD-RW drive with a CD-ROM drive from my old Powermac G3 (B&W). Drive seemed to work like a charm. Then I noticed it wasn't so charming after all. The same problems were back: sluggish behavior and BEEPING!
So I unplugged that drive and things are fine.
I am assuming at this point that the problem is NOT the drives themselves but some other component (LogicBoard?)
So that is what I ask all of you. What do you think is the culprit? Anything else I can do to narrow it down?
    Thanks - Peace - Macs

  • Beep! Beep! Beep! Now nothing! Is it dead?

    Howdy,
I have one of the first 5G 30G iPod video and today it just died. I noticed the battery didn't fully charge last night, but it was playing alright today. I got home with a sliver of red charge left in the battery. I plugged it in to charge and it made a few beeps and just went black. I am hoping it is only a battery replacement, but my concern is, it is history. It is in good shape and has been well treated. Any ideas?

Well, I feel like a bit of a mullet now. I had attempted to reset it earlier, but failed, however, after going to the 5rs page I successfully reset it and it seems fine. I have reset it a couple of times over the time I have had it for different reasons. I had never heard the beeping before, which made me think it was something more sinister. I guess I was just too quick to give up.
Thanks a lot for your help.
    SR.

  • TS1587 At start up, get audible 2 beeps then 3 beeps, 3 beeps ... . reseat memory , same results

screen illuminates, but nothing else except the beeps.  I assume they are the POST fail code.   Old Bios code would be a RAM issue but I'm not sure with the MAC.  this is the first prolbem I've had with it in 3 years.  I love the machine.  Any Ideas?
