Day-Offs are considering as training days in Training and Event Management

Hi One and All,
I configured Time Schedules and assigend to Business Events, when I check the Time schedule in Business Events It is considering the Day_offs as a Training Days, But my requirement is Day-offs should not be Training days.
For example: I created a Time shcedule for 10 days and 3hrs per day. I asigned this to a Business Event. I checked the Time Schedule. No of training days are 10, In this 10 days there are 2 day-off (not working days). In the time schedule It is showing these 2 not working days. I want to consider only working days as training days.
How can I solve this?

Hi,
Create a suitable Time Schedule (e.g. take note of std Time Schedule DOPLWOCH), or add day per day/week per week to avoid the inclusion of days off (use With Pattern or User-defined tabs only).

Using Blue Horizons FCP training DVD problem

Using Blue Horizons training DVD, when I go to save the project as instructed in the edit and project folders under FCP training, cannot save. Save button doesn't highlight.
Am I missing the boat somewhere?

A quick follow up . . . he actually has the training DVD in a player beside his laptop . . DVD not in his DVD slot drive. He says he's following the instructions on how to save to his FCP folder but the "save" option isn't active so can't save(?)

Best FCP training book?

HI there,
I'm using and learning FCP, but I know I'm missing lots.
It's FCP 7 (came with FCS 3, and it included just a tiny little manual).
I know there are various books out there designed to help people like me learn my way around this app, and show me some neat short-cuts, etc., but I'm wondering if the FCP cognoscenti can recommend one in particular.

I would highly recommend the Diana Weynand books for Final Cut Pro, and as it's already been pointed out she does have the new one for FCP 7 out.
If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch I would also recommend the app titled iKeysToGo also developed by Weynand.com. It is a learning that puts the complete list of Final Cut Pro 7 commands in the palm of your hands! It's only $2.99 and is most used apps I have in my arsenal. Here is the link at Weynand.com:

How do you design a multi-day software training class that has...

....customers from all over who need to actually practice with the software on their own computers?
We're really struggling with designing the class to be interactive. Their use of the software won't be through Connect Pro. Instead, we're using Connect Pro to interact and set up the labs, and then they work on their own version of our software to do the labs...and then we keep going. However, everyone works at a different pace, and we end up just lecturing through the labs to keep everyone together.
We're going toward self-paced eLearning, but we have probably 1-2 years of this left. Anyone out there doing live online software training? Right now the class is three days, and it runs for six hours a day. It's long and too boring right now!

There are lots of books about software design. Have a look at them on Amazon or in a book store.
Have a look at UML (Unified Modeling Language). UML defines a number of diagrams, such as use case diagrams, sequence diagrams, class diagrams etc., to help you find out requirements and design your software system, and it's one of the most widely used tools for designing software systems.
On a smaller scale, a book like Effective Java might be interesting.

LiveCycle in 3 day Video Training

I posted to the board 3-4 weeks ago about the files not matching upto the videos. When you get to Day 2 project files Lesson 3 LiveCycle Output the files and the video do not match. The outcome is that you can not replicate what is in the videos. Did you change the files according to the LiveCycle updates and not change the video or vise a versa?
Hate to say it but Adobe has dropped the ball on this one. The product has such great potential but the lessons have alot to be desired.
Is there a book with lesson plans and files that I may purchase?
I have been designing forms with liveCycle Designer for 4 years and was trying to learn the server side which is not that hard if you had the correct files with the videos to work from.

I took a look at the video and supporting files. It appears to me that the video was meant to be a "demo", and not actually document the steps for a "Hands On" exercise.
The "Hands-on" steps are documented in the "Output.pdf" file contained in the "day2_project_files.zip" file.
One thing to note as well, there appears to be a typo in the "Output.pdf" file, Step 5 and 6 (on page 1) reference incorrect path and file names. You will want to use the "LiveCycle in a Week (Output ES2).lca" found in the root of the "LC Output" folder (found in the "day2_project_files.zip" file)

Of course, Jim is right, but if you want a shorter DVD/Book combo I would recommend the Apple Pro Training Series published by Peachpit Press.
If you are planning on upgrading to FCP6 you will have to wait till the end of June/first of July to get the new edition of the book.
Another good book by Peachpit is the Visual Quickpro Guide series, it is more accessible than the manuals in that it is in one volume, but it is just a manual, it does not come with any video to play with.

A days training/exposure to iPhone development

Hi,
I would like to organise a day's training/exposure to how to develop apps for the iPhone with our internal development team, 9 people. This would be a completely different experience for them; living most of their lives in Visual Studio.
Ideally, I'd like it to be a fun/interesting experience of another platform etc, preferably in an interesting environment - maybe even an Apple Store.
Any ideas who would be able to run something like this in the UK?

Although you already have your XML parser, you might want to take a look at the NSXMLParser class, since it will handle all of the network communication for you (see [initWithContentsOfURL:|http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation /Cocoa/Reference/Foundation/Classes/NSXMLParserClass/Reference/Reference.html#//appleref/doc/uid/20001984-BAJCCBCH]). If you don't want to use that class, you might look over the URL Loading System Programming Guide and become familiar with some of the referenced classes, e.g. [NSURLRequest|http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/Cocoa/Ref erence/Foundation/Classes/NSURLRequestClass/Reference/Reference.html#//appleref/occ/cl/NSURLRequest]. 10 days training period after line reset

Hi,
So on Monday morning the engineer finally turned up and did line reset which in results I was getting my full speed (47.5/9). And very low pings 16ms to bbc.co.uk, abou 6ms on 1st hop but this morning hh5b decided to restart in results my ping went up by 12ms, now 28ms to bbc.co.uk and it decreased my speed by 3mb. Can anyone explain me how 10 days of training period works? I thought the router must stay stable for more than 10 days. Is it still training my line after router drop?
I suspect interleaving turned on on my line but why after only 2 days instead of 10 training days?
I have been told by engineer that I am very far away from the cabinet around 800m and that the line is working in 100% just after line reset and it wont stay like that.

Tonight I have noticed that I can't open any website (it takes about 3 minutes to open any website) and I am having a high packet loss on teamspeak3. The Noise Margin dropped from stable 6.0 to 4.5-5.0. It forces me to reboot my router but I don't want to, because my speed will drop and ping will go up occasionally. What can I do in that situation?

Save the money and buy plug ins or more RAM.
I disagree. You will save the employer's money and he will keep the plugins and RAM. If you get formal training (which includes Apple Certification after a rigorous test) at the station's expense it will be yours forever.
I went for a five-day course in The Edit Center in New York - excellent. I have no idea how good the course in Orlando is. Apple Store sends its employees to The Edit Center which sounds like a strong recommendation.

Roundtripping from FCP

I became an ACT last year and am working for a centre running FCP level1 courses. The centre have a client who wants to do a one day one on one course on how to integrate between Shake, Motion and FCP. I Round trip all the time within FCS but have little experience with Shake. Do i turn down the job on the grounds i'm not familiar with the program, or take it on the assumption that Shake works like any other FCS app?
Either way, i think it's only correct to inform the centre i'm not a Shake specialist, but not sure whether my round tripping skills in FCS extend to this particular job.
Any thoughts?

Hey Jon -- been a while since I've done this myself and I've never actually RELIED on Shake actually doing it correctly - so I've always check it myself:
Does anything need to be adjusted in the file out node? Are we sure it selects the correct render option? Like I said, I always dbl checked it but can't remember if I actually changed anything.
That said --
OP... not sure just the quick send and return would constitute a full day of training. You might want to bone up on a few helpful nodes that you can use Shake for. Just to show what happens to the video when it comes back.
I did a series of tutorials (I call them that loosely!!!) called Shake is Money. Was planning on doing more, but well - I lost interest and the time.

They cover the workflow in shake and some of the porting issues. The first one is the bottom one and then move your way up... I never really scripted out the task analysis, but each one kind of builds on what you 'know' from the ones before it.
I did get a nice letter from the Shake team at Apple for them... but I still don't think they are the greatest things in the world.
Anyway - enough disclaimer... check them out - might help you decide.

Training and event management questions

Hi all,
as I am new to this topic I am facing some problems and did not found a solution yet. I hope that someone here can help me. Below the issues.
1. How can I change the Info message which notifies you that the maximum capacity of the attendees have been reached therefore you will proceed to waiting list into a Warning message ?
2. Is it possible to customize the Move up procedure for cancellation in such a way that one would be able to select not only people from the waiting list, but also people from the prebooking list?
3. Even though the factory calendar is selected the training still counts weekend days as training days, does anyone have a clue how can i fix this?

FCP WONT LAUNCH!!!

Searched this topic to no avail... infact all the information I found made the situation worse...
I have:
MacBookPro Tiger 10.4.7
Final Cut Studio
One day, FCP 5.1.1 stopped opening. It would begin launching, the window opens to load but it would just stop. (From what I noticed, it would quit at different intervals throughout the process, no specific feature loading seemed to cause the crash) All my other Studio programs opened fine.
I reinstalled FCP only. Same thing.
Researched it. Maybe its a system update... Maybe its an audio plug in. Maybe you should trash your ProApp update and replace it with ProAppRuntime 3.0.1. (won't load on my computer) Maybe FCPRescue will fix it...
None of these worked. Infact since trashing my settings in FCPResue, NONE of the studio programs open.
I can't even get the launch window anymore. One hop in the dock. That's it.
Anyhoo, please if you know the solution... I believe it to be when I installed 10.4.6. That's the only change I made to the computer before this nightmare.

these are the classic symptoms of corrupt preferences .... i know you said you tried it already but you may want to try FCP Rescue again, make sure you are using FCP Rescue 5, not an earlier version.
if you're not feeling too happy about FCP Rescue, you can try using FCP Attic which does much the same thing plus saves your custom button bars, keyboard layouts etc
another approach would be to create a brand new user account for OS X and log into it ... try and launch FCP in that account and see if it works ok

Canon 5D Mark II footage in FCP

Does anybody edit Canon 5D Mark II footage with FCP? My playback stops at every blade cut or in the end of the clip for a second before resumes the next clip ... pretty annoying. All the other HD camera footage plays just fine.

I can only covet your camera, but I happen to have a FCP tutorial for the Mark II. It says do this:
1. Make sure you have latest MacOS (10.5.6 or highter), Quicktime (7.6 or higher), and FCP (6.0.5 or higher). And of course an Intel-based Mac (2.8 Ghz recommended). You may still get some stutter during playback with multiple layers of video, audio, and transitions/filters. But output will be OK.
2. Make a Mark II pre-set as follows (one day FCP will include one, sigh):
Select Audio/Video Settings.
select Sequence Presets. Select this one to duplicate and modify: DV NTSC 48 kHz.
Pull down Aspect Ratio and select HDTV 1080 i (16:9). that is is really correct but 1080p is not a choice but you will not convert to interlaced anyway.
Change *Pixel Aspect Ratio* to SQUARE. Do NOT check Anamorphic 16:9
Select *Field Dominance* Upper(Odd)
*Editing Time base*: select 30
*Timecode Path*: 30 Non-Drop Frame
Compressor: H.264
*Audio Settings*:
Rate: 44 kHz, Depth: 16-bit, Config: Cannel Grouped
Under SUMMARY tab in Audio/Video Settings:
(make sure Sequence Preset shows name of the one you just made)
Capture Preset: Generic Capture Template
Device Control: Non-controllable device
Video Playback: none
Audio Playback: default
Click Create Easy Setup (put in your Mark II name) and click Create
Enable verification tab: checked
NOW when you begin a new project, go to Easy Setup and pull down your newly-created Mark II preset. The tutorial I got this from said to be sure you create a NEW project or some default presets may still be in play.
You may need TRANSCODING if your system still struggles with the above.
Convert H.264 to a managable HD codec (Apple ProRes 422 or 422 (HQ) or DVCPRO HD 1080p30)
I assume you would know the steps doing this, but if not, let me know.
Would really like to know if this works for you. Have the Mark II on a short list of possibilities for a new camera.

FCP 5.1 won't let me save project.

Hello All
Working on a series we are networked on OS and running FCP 5.1 system osx 10.4.11
pretty much every other day FCP has an error and won't let you save to the network where all the projects live.
So we have to save to the desktop quit out of FCP drag the file from desktop to it's rightful home on the server and then all is good.
As I said keeps happening and is a drag so if anyone know why this conflict keeps arising would love to know the way out!
BTW once FCP starts acting this way it will continue to do it for all projects until you quit out of the app and restart FCP, then it behaves.

Always work locally. Keep the projects you are editing on your computer, and back up to the server at the end of the night. This way, you have a copy in TWO places, and that can only be good.
I have been to three companies that use FCP in a SAN environment and this is the standard practice for that. Unless you are running something like EDIT SHARE, that is designed around the Avid Unity concept...work locally, save globally.
