3 day old Ipad 2 will not boot up or restore. unknown error?

Tried to update to iOS5 as advised in itunes. Now will not operate. Tries to restore and fails with Error code 1611. Not going to be easy to return it to Tesco in Inverness. Anyone got any ideas?

No further problems with it. I've taken it back to Tesco in Stornoway and got a full refund.  Apparently a hardware fault?  I don't think I shall be bothering to replace it any time soon. Pity, 'cos it could be a very usefull device. Still, once bitten, twice shy.

    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Ipad air wifi only 16gb worked ok with IOS 8.0 . just did upgrade to 8.02 and now it will not boot up. I get a white screen with the apple logo and then a blue screen. it does this over and over. I need help. What do i need to do. Please help.

    Hi ..
    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, restore the iPad >  Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

  • Snow Leopard will not boot after TM Restore

I had an email issue (lost 5 accounts) that has turned into a nightmare. Apple Support told me to restore my entire hard drive from my Time Machine. I booted to the DVD and selected a restore point and 12 hours later I get the Apple with the spinning wheel. I have tried two restore points - same result. It will not boot in safe mode either. I ran the Verify Drive utility and the drive checks out.
The drive is about 75% full after this TM restore operation so it appears it is pulling all of my data into the machine.
I have a number of backups of my system including a full one on ARQ plus all the TM backups. I am just not versed in the Apple OS enough to know how to recover from this point.
    Q's:
    1. Is it possible that the data and the Apps have been restored but the OS is simply corrupt on the TM?
    2. Is there a Repair feature on the SnoL DVD or am I faced with a fresh install?
    3. If I do a fresh install, can I simply copy the Apps folder back in the machine and my apps work correctly? (I realize a few may not that have to have components in browsers or whatever).
    Suggestions on recovery approach...
    Thanks, Uursa

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
That's possible. Once you can get it to boot you can explore that.
    2. Is there a Repair feature on the SnoL DVD or am I faced with a fresh install?
Soon after booting from that DVD you should see a Utilities menu with Disk Utility under it. With Disk Utility you can perform a "Repair Disk" operation.
    3. If I do a fresh install, can I simply copy the Apps folder back in the machine and my apps work correctly?
You could first try installing OS X 10.6 over what's already there. You might also learn more about what's wrong by doing a "verbose boot':

  • IPad Mini will not boot after battery drained after IOS8.0.2 Update

I upgraded to IOS 8.0.2 having skipped 8.0.1 two days ago. I did not notice any unusual problems, but with hindsight a few apps did crash out on occasions, but not consistently.
Yesterday night I let the battery completely drain and I plugged it in to recharge overnight.
This morning I find that logo is still on screen and it doesn't look as if the iPad has recharged. I have tried re-booting a number of times, but it will not progress beyond the Apple Logo. I have tried connecting to iTunes on my Macbook Pro, but no device is recognised.
Having left the iPad sitting next to me while still connected to a charger, I have noticed on a couple of occasions a flash of blue screen followed by black and then the Apple Logo appearing again.
My iPad Mini Retina 128Gb appears very dead at the moment. Any suggestions on revival?

Try to put your iPad into DFU mode and do a full restore this way. To do so, follow the steps below:
    1. Open iTunes on your computer
    2. Connect your iPad via USB.
    3. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for about 10 seconds.
    4. Release the Sleep/Week button but keep pressing the Home button until iTunes shows that it has detected and iPad in DFU mode.
    5. Try restoring your iPad.
If this won't solve your problem, and you are not able to do a restore via iTunes at all, then take your iPad to an Apple Retail Store because then it is possibly a hardware failure. Here you can find the service options: https://getsupport.apple.com/ProductSelector.action

  • Ok, I have changed the names of my iPads to each be different- but no matter what I do, the Apple ID comes up the old email address on the old iPad and will not let me update Apps, purchase , etc,

I have used your info to give my two iPads different names. My problem is that my old iPad still has the old email in the Apple ID pop up so it will not let me sign in. I checked my info in the manage my account page and there is my email as primary, which allows me to sign in for apps, etc on the newiPad air, but when I try to update or buy an App on the old iPad, the old email is in the pop up and will not let me sign in.
How do I change the email in the old iPad to match the new iPad????
The Old email is on my manage my account page as a verified ALTERNATE email.

We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
Have you created a new account or updated your existing account ? All content that you download from the store is tied to the account that downloaded it, so if you have created a new account then all of your existing downloads will remain tied to your old account.
If you've updated your existing account then try tapping on the id at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app and log out of it and then log back in with the updated id so as to 'refresh' the account on it.

  • Itunes will not load due to An unknown error has occurred (-42408).

in Windows iTunes will load but fails every time with "An unknown error has occurred (-42408)."  There is no obvious way to uninstall iTunes.  This includes manually starting iTunes from the Start menu and pluggin in an iPad2.
How can iTunes be uninstalled/reinstalled or fixed?

I just finished a re-install of iTunes 10.6.3.25 which worked fine.  I am using Windows Vista.  I logged off the Admin account and logged into a user account.  I plugged in the iPad2 and it never got to the sync that normally happens automatically.  then I got the -42408 error followed by another error:  iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPad "iPad".  Go to the Summary tab in the iPad preferences and click Restore to restore this iPad to factory settings.
If I do this, will I lose all the Apps that were purchased?  Or will I need to re-download them?  But most importantly, will doing this Restore fix the problem?
Thanks in advance for any ideas or proven solutions!

  • What can I do about driver updates that will not install because of an "unknown error".

I have an HP p6530 Pavilion that is taking a while to startup. Not real long but longer then it should. I tried to install driver updates from Intel for the Chipset and RAID but when I download and install it will not finish the install because of an "unknown error" and then setup exits. I could really use advice from anyone that can help.

Have you tried to disable your virus protection and any running programs in the system tray? Turn off any programs that are not necessary before you run the updates.  Make sure you run the updates as administrator (right click on the driver install program and click on run as administrator).

  • My 4 year old macbook pro will not boot up. Help!

My 4 year old mac book pro has recently had a few episodes where it freezes up during operation, and then when I force shut down, I cannot boot up. When I try to reboot, I get a beep and the little circle spins for a while, then the screen turns a darker grey and I get a message to hold the power button for a few seconds to reboot, but this last time, it didn't reboot.  It just does the same thing again and again.  Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?  Is this mac book salvagable or is it time to buy a new one???
    Thanks!

  • Ipad 2 will not boot or charge after 2 attempts to restore through recovery

My Ipad 2 suddenly stopped working.  It had the Apple logo and occassionally when plugged in a battery symbol that showed a red bar at the base and no charging indicator.  I tried hard resets, I tried everything I could think of.  I finally got it into recovery mode with Itunes - which I did twice - but the same results at the end.  Apple Logo on screen and battery symbol when I first plug it in - showing a battery with just a small red bar at the base to indicate that it is not charged.  I have charged it for extend lengths using multiple Ipad chargers and cords.
Not sure what to do next.  Any ideas or suggestions?

    Hi Ddonatto,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you were able to place your iPad into recovery mode and restore it using iTunes, but it is still stuck at the Apple logo and does not charge. If so, your iPad may need service.
The following link should help you get started with the process and has links with additional information on topics such as warranty and service pricing, battery replacement, and express replacement service.

  • Will not boot from CD ROM - MountCheck Error

Had a system crash. Since then had problem with corrupt system on one drive. Am trying to load OX10.2 on drive. Start installation telling it to launch from disk and reverts to a SCSI drive. Hold down "S" when starting and also launches from SCSI drive.
Sometimes when I try to install OS, it comes back with the following error:
Startup disk was unable to select the install CD as start-up disk. (-1)
Did Disk Firstaid on CD drive and it said:
    "MountCheck found minor errors.
Did PRAM ZAP, removed battery and pushed reset button. Unplugged CD, booted on and off. Plugged in CD again, hoping it would find and install correctly. No help.
Have tried launching off of 3 separate CDs (OS8, OS10.2, OS10.3) none launch.
    Now what?

    Hi, 61319tele -
As far as being able to boot the machine from a hard drive using OS 9 -
    • Be sure OS 9 drivers were installed on the drive. If OS 9's Drive Setup was used to format the hard drive, they're installed automatically. However, when using OSX's Disk Utility to format the drive, the installation of OS 9 drivers is an option, one which is not always selected by default. And, be sure the drive was formatted as Mac OS Extended (also called HFS+).
    • If the drive is larger than 200GB, it must be partitioned such that the volume OS 9 is on is no larger than 200GB; 190GB is a safe size.
    • Be sure the jumpers on the drive are set correctly. Cable Select is not a good choice for your model.
As far as being able to use the optical drive for OS 9 booting -
Does the machine boot to an OSX Install disk?
One way to test an optical drive - disconnect the hard drive, then try booting to the optical drive. All G4s should boot to the optical drive even if no hard drive is available.
Since you have replaced the drive, make sure the drive is jumpered correctly - in order for it to be bootable, it must be jumpered as Master.
By user reports, it appears that some machines will no longer boot to their original pre-OSX CDs after the machine's firmware has been updated. One way to test to see if that is the case is to try using a retail (white label) OS 9.1 or OS 9.2.1 Install CD. It should boot to either of those after the firmware has been updated.
I would question the ability of a copied OS 9 Install CD's ability to boot a machine - it's too easy to get it wrong. In particular, if the source disk is not a valid one for the machine (neither an original Software Install CD nor a retail OS 9 Install CD of adequate version), it won't be able to boot it. Since the copied CD apparently will boot your G3 (what model is that machine?), the source disk may have been one that came with the G3, hence is model-specific to it.
