3 Displays to X220

Hi ,
someone tell me please, is it possible to connect three displays to X220 with dock-station? Now I have two attached displays.

Read this post. It will answer your question.

  • Multiple external displays for X220 + ThinkPad Series 3 Docking Station

I have ThinkPad X220 [PN#4290HT6] and will plan to use 02 external monitors.
My plan is to buy ThinkPad Series 3 Docking Station and 02 external monitors.
Is ThinkPad Series 3 Docking Station working with 02 external monitors by my X220?
Which ports of Docking to be used [VGA or DVI]?
    Thank you!!

I would be verry happy if you could post the results of your check (the "amperage" especially).
Yes, I am aware that there are 2 versions (with and without eSATA). The one I have ordered is unfortunately the newer one, with USB 3.0 (no eSATA). But from reading other threads I know that the eSATA port on the docking station is limited - it is not powered (eSATA-p, but plain eSATA), in contrast to the laptop port, so I will not be missing this feature so much as I thought I would. I will still connect directly to the laptop port instead. Why?
I'm using one-cable connection (powered eSATA cable eSATA-p connector to normal SATA drive connector) to connect external 2.5" drive to easily boot the alternative system. Great solution, by the way, and very cheap, cost of ca. 10EUR incl shipment (Delock is the only brand I've found that produces such cables). I never liked the need to have additional power adapter or USB power connection for SATA connection - too many cables for me. So initially I was looking for the older version of docking station. But after reading about the above limitations of eSATA port on docking station, I gave up, because I would still need additional USB cable to power it up when connecting to the docking station.
Unfortunaltely, all W-series compatible docking stations are very rare on the used market here in Poland, so I didn't have too many possibilities to choose from.

  • Max count of ThinkVision connected to a X220?

    Hi!
I have here a X220 Tablet and a nice Lenovo ThinkVision LT1421. It would be nice to connect some more of the Lenovo ThinkVision LT1421 to my X220.
How many of the Lenovo ThinkVision LT1421 can I connect at the same time?
    Any Limitation?

    I checked my x220 and connected 3xLT1421 and LT2252p - it was working fine (all 5 displays - including x220 built-in display)
LT1421 is a DisplayLink USB device and this technology standard allows up to 6 USB displays connected to a PC, and up to 4 displays to Mac. Under Windows Multipoint Server, up to 14 USB clients are supported.

  • Display Port HDMI Cable for Lenovo X220

I want to connect my X220 laptop to TV . Need to know which of the following options will work for me to transmit both audio and video from Laptop to TV.

Seems like many people are experiencing problems with connecting to a tv via mdp-hdmi adapter. I have the same problem connecting my newly bought macbook air to my 4 year old samsung 32 inch. Both screens goes blue and blinks. My mac recognise my tv though, it says samsung when I go to the screenmenu to change resolution.
I have tried two different adapters, the moshi adapter which Apple recommends and another one. Im experiencing the same problem with both.
I´ve kinda concluded that it has to be a software problem since my mac has started to act strangely after I tried making it work for 20 minutes.
    Apple please fix -.-

  • X220 External display problem

I bought a DisplayPort to HDMI cable to connect my X220 to my TV. It transfers image and audio, but the image on the TV is cut off at all 4 edges. I have tried cycling through over 10 different resolutions, but the problem doesn't go away. I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem?
I have experienced this on 2 different TVs so far, so I think the problem would either lie with the cable or the X220s display drivers. I cannot check for sure which it is as the X220 is the only device I have that has a DisplayPort.
    Solved!

Look in your TV's options for something called "overscan", "pixel ratio", "1:1"...
BTW, can you share what cable you bought that transfers audio? I've tried two displayport to hdmi converters already and I cant get one to pass audio.

  • Will an X220 drive a Dell UP2414Q 4K 3840 x 2160 Monitor via Display Port?

I've not been able to find any information about this on the web and there is definitely some confusion about DisplayPort versions - could some one answer the question will an X220 drive a Dell UP2414Q 4K IPS Monitor at it's native resolution of 3840 x 2160 Monitor via Display Port? Would that be at 30Hz rather than 60Hz?
    Many thanks, Mark.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The X220 will drive the Dell UP2414Q 4K resolution through Displayport. I have tested this on the Pro2840m LCD which has the same resolution. But only on 30 hz refresh rate.
The X220 with the Series 3 Workstation Dock will drive 2 of the Pro2840m through 2 separate displayport.
The X201 will also drive this 4K resolution, as long as the LCD's 4K can accept Displayport 1.1 standard (on the 1.2 standard, the LCD will stay blank).
    https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14671257827/in/set-72157645860787090
the above image confirms the 4K resolution and my X220 driving that resolution @ 30 hz.
For 60 hz refresh rate on the 4K resolution with integrated Intel GPU, you need Haswell CPU with the HD5000 graphics card, anything below that will only drive the 4K resolution at 30 Hz.

  • X220 shows display name as "Generic PnP Monitor", it's supposed to be IPS.

I ordered an X220 with IPS long time ago.
I remember seeing a while ago the name as "Wide viewing angle & High density FlexView Display 1366 x 768" but now that I see this "Generic PnP Monitor" I am not sure if it was my imagination or infact the name of the monitor changed in the device manager.
I checked the Hardware Ids and it is MONITOR\LEN40E2, and googled a bit about that and looks like it's an IPS panel anyway.
So why the change of name? or is this really a cheap TN panel? Lenovo sent me a X220 with wrong display configuration?
    I am confused

you have an IPS display.   most likely your monitor INF file was overwritten, perhaps by windows update or a manual change.
you can reinstall it using the file here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-62923

  • Display & Charging Problem - X220

I have the i7 X220.  It's been great, but I'm starting to have a few issues.  Just want to get some feedback in case there's something simple I need to do before contacting service and probably sending it in for repair (it was purchased March 2010).
    1)  Display is great 98% of the time, but I notice that the colors go off - a bit day glo/neon, if I move the laptop while it's on and in use.  This used to be just if I walked across the room, now it happens sometimes even if I just move it from my lap. The same thing occurs sometimes after I've been using it for a while.  Wondering if it's heat related or if I have a loose connection somewhere.  Note that it generally goes right back to good if I refresh the display.
    2) A more serious issue - I've had charging problems with this laptop off and on for the last few months.  I purchased a spare power supply and battery, and I noticed that it seemed to charge fine with the newer power supply, but was random with the old one.  Batteries didn't seem to make a difference.  Today, once again I can't get it to charge at all - with either power supply or battery.
You're thinking, "Well just send it in for service."  That's probably what I'll have to do, but these tend to be random issues, and I've not had good luck with repairs in the past when that was the case.  So, just trying to get some background and see if these are known issues.
    Thanks.

    hey shazza,
for #1 , i'm guessing a loose cable is causing this since it happens when you move the unit. If you want, use this >> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?DocID=UM006464
open your unit and ensure all cables is connected correctly.
another thing you can try is to uninstall the current graphic driver for your unit , let windows install its generic drivers and see if it happens again.
now for #2 , that is something I will have to say send it to service. I have not seen that happen before.

  • X220 display problem

    Hi!
I have problems with the display of my x220 as the image keeps freezing. The problem has gotten worse lately as I have to carefully adjust the screen angle to make it work properly. If I move it even slightly, the image will most likely freeze again. Pressing (and holding) left bezel of the screen seems to help to prevent the freeze. During these freezes, only the image is affected(everything keeps running normally, music plays fine etc..). When frozen, the image is most of the time almost black and white and pixelated, sometimes it's completely grey(pic of this below).
However, if I connect my laptop to external monitor with vga cable, the image of external monitor is unaffected during these freezes. This would suggest that the problem lies in the screen or the connection cables, right? I opened my computer to check the lcd cables and their connections to system board and they seemed intact ( I'm not an expert though )
My pc is no longer under warranty so what would you suggest? Is buying new panel the best option or should I just try with new lcd cable? The exact model number of my x220 is 4291-JN7 if that makes any difference.
    Thanks in advance!

Replace the LCD cablle, it's FRU 04W1679. $10 on ebay.
There is also LED-backlight LCD cable, FRU 04W1408. But is seems the 1st one is a cause.

  • X220 display frame bends in sun light

    Hi all,
today I was working for approx. 15 minutes outside in the sun when I noticed that the lower display frame of my X220 starts bending away from the display (sun was shining at the back of the unit and not directly on the inside frame). After doing some research I found a description of the problem here including a picture. My frame does exactly look the same. While writing this post back inside it starts to go away and kinda bend back. Not sure if it will go away completely. I wonder if this happens to all X220's or if I should get mine replaced. Also I wonder if that could harm the device in any way.
    Thanks,
    Chris :-)

  • X220 dead ips display - return instructions?

Apologies if this has been covered somewhere in the forums and I missed it.
I have a new X220 with the IPS display and after a couple weeks of use, the laptop display no longer works.
The laptop seems fine otherwise, and it works with an external display port monitor.  When I have the monitor in mirrored mode, I can see a faint- not-readable screen on the laptop.  I'm certain that it is not just the brightness setting, as I can turn that all the way up with no effect (and view the brightness dialog working both on the external and barely perceivable on the laptop monitor).
It seems like my display was just a lemon (maybe the backlight for the screen was poorly soldered/connected?).  Has anyone else experienced this?
Regardless, my tolerance is pretty low for hardware failure so I'd like to unload this laptop with maximum velocity.
How do I go about doing that?

  • X220 Intel Display Audio problem

I received a new X220, and I initially had the same problem getting audio through a displayport to hdmi cable that other users have experienced.  For me it turned out to be the cable.  I got a new adapter and the audio worked great.  As soon as I hooked up the cable, the audio would automatically switch to my TV.  Perfect.
Now, however, I'm having a different problem.  The audio will stop working for apparantely no reason.  I was just playing a movie on VLC with no problems.  Went and did something else, came back and woke the computer from sleep and now the audio no longer works.  When I open my audio playback devices I can see the levels moving, but I hear nothing.  I reboot, unplug the cable from the laptop and the TV.  Nothing works.
I think it may be a problem with the Intel Display Audio drivers because I've had this problem on another laptop before (with a standard hdmi out).  On the old laptop I would uninstall drivers, reinstall, rollback, etc.  Nothing would work.  It would just all of a sudden decide to start working again.
I've been told elsewhere to uncheck any enhancements in the audio properties and to make sure that the selection under the advanced tab, "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" is unchecked as well.  I still have the problem however.
This is incredibly frustrating.  Does anybody know how to fix this issue?  Thank you.

A Code 10 error is generated in Device Manager in one of the following situations:
    - Device Manager can't start the device.
    - One of the drivers that the device needs does not start.
    - Device Manager has insufficient information to recognize the error that is bubbled up by the device driver.

  • New and improved panels (display) for the Tx20 and Wx20 series or just the X220 series?

Lenovo surly impressed us with the specifications with their new Lenovo ThinkPad X220-series notebook, not only does it feature great performance and battery life but suddenly they've gone away from the rather sluggish TN-panels they've been using for the past few years and given us a high-quality IPS option for those whom care about display quality.
Now the million dollar question is whether they'll do something about the display panel quality on their other ThinkPad line-ups or is just something happening on the X220 series? Personally the ThinkPad T420s is more appealing than the ThinkPad X220 simply because of the size being somewhat too small for my use, id like to opt for the T420s instead because that assures me more space for my hands to rest, a not too small screen along with a few other things.
I wasn't really planning on going ThinkPad this year because the display quality of my ThinkPad T400s and ThinkPad W510 has been a complete joke. Whereas the 1920x1080 panel on the W510 is doing okay it's still a rather low-contrast panel without barley anything impressive about it and when it comes to the display quality of the T400s it's downright disappointing with it's low-contrast, limited viewing angle screen.
So when I had finally decided to look elsewhere Lenovo drops the X220 with good hardware, battery life and most importantly a IPS panel option I was happily surprised and considering I love everything about the ThinkPad series besides the sluggish speakers and display quality I'm ready too pick up yet another ThinkPad series notebook if Lenovo finally offers some improved quality on their display offerings.
But would it be too much to hope for seeing improvements in regards of the display on the T and W series as well or do you think this is a X220 series only thing? And I guess we wont see anything higher resolution than 1366x768 which even though it's IPS quality is somewhat low resolution when I'm used to 1920x1080 on my W510 for instance.

I figured IPS is not going to happen this year, but as the new T420 and T420s is 16:9 compared to last years T410 and T410s and the T400 and T400s before that 16:10 screens there must be some new panels coming this time around?
Lets just hope it's not the same low contrast TN-panels like before as there is no doubt that you can get TN-panels that are way better than what Lenovo has been using for the past years.

  • X220: Coloured pixels starting to shine through IPS display

    Hello,
I have and actively use my X220 for roughly two and a half years now and am so far happy with it.
However, lately I noticed coloured pixels, or rather what looks like sub-pixels shining through the "display" when I set e.g. a black background or at boot time.
It goes from the left to the right but only at the top of the screen. I have the x220 with the IPS display.
I attached two pictures of the most intense spot, roughly a tad to the right from the top-center of the display). Unfortunately, my camera does not quiet focus that close, I#ll try to get a better shot of it soon.
As you can see, those aren't dead pixels per-se, as their size waries. Looks like the screen is "used" and the "paint" starts to come of. Not sure how I could describe that, really.

During my time of ownership I have always been careful of my machine, so there was no rough handling. I use it everyday as my primary machine though, but most of the time with 1 or 2 external monitors.
Does anyboy else have this problem? Is it solvable? Could I stop the process somehow?
    Thanks a lot!

It seems as you have the first revision of the IPS panel that is known to have issues, especially the excessive image retention (persistence) issue. Assuming you have 3 years warranty I would ask for replacement.
On the other hand I have one of last X220 (having the second revision of the display) boxes and noticed the issue as well. Fortunately it is one red subpixel only yet.
Is there any improvement when you keep the display turned off for at least 48 hours ?

  • Touching edges of X220 IPS display causes hibernation. Horrible customer service!

When I touch the edges of my X220's IPS display, the machine goes into hibernation/sleep. Adjusting the tilt angle of the screen can also cause this. Problem is really bad and unpredictable. I called this in to Lenovo support to have the screen replaced and I am getting the royal run-around. The operators taking the service call info have absolutely no idea what they are doing! And I don't mean technically! They just keep making excuses! It has been 3 days and I have yet to have a tech call me to meet to replace display. I keep calling Lenovo and the operators don't have a clue as to how to handle this! "All I can tell you sir is I will make a notation".  "You'll have to wait until Monday for a tech". What? First, has anyone had this problem with the IPS display, and second, this is my first Lenovo product and I love it but what's up with the warranty service? Does Lenovo have a reputation for this?

Here's 4 service providers close to you.  You could try calling them direct. What number are you calling anyway?  Do you have onsite warranty?
As far as your problem goes, it sounds like the lcd cable might be chaffed or kinked.  Or maybe a loose connection on the cable. It's not a common problem, but it happens.
