3 Frame Offset Digitizing In 10-bit??

I logged some footage to capture in FCP using my AJA ioHD. I chose the ioHD 525 10-bit Uncompressed setting and for some reason, it captured everything with a 3-frame latency although the TC was correct on the clips in the browser.
So, I re-captured using the ioHD 525 ProRes422 and it's fine? Why would it capture incorrectly with the other setting? I used to capture all the time with my ioLD at 10-bit Uncompressed with no problems.
Thanks in advance.
Eddie

Even though the numerical timecode is correct in the browser, the visual first frame of the clip is 3 frames behind. For example, if I set the in-point to 59:59:59:29 and it's the black frame just before the first frame of picture, it will capture the frame at 01:00:00:02. But the clip will numerically be correct in the browser.
If I use the ProRes422 codec, this doesn't happen. I checked my ref signal and it's all fine. It plays back 10-bit uncompressed perfectly, just starts capturing in the wrong place.
Any ideas?

  • Frame Offset not working

    Hi all
I'm running FCP 5.1.4 on a dual 2.3 G5, OS X 10.4.9, QT 7.1.5, with a BlackMagic DeckLink HD Pro card (driver v6.1) component out to a broadcast LCD. I'm using an M-Audio MobilePre USB for audio with its latest driver (1.6.5) and "Medium Latency" out to powered monitor speakers.
I'm unable to get playback sync of sound and picture, and the Frame Offset (System Settings>Playback Control>Frame Offset makes no difference. Even at extreme settings the sync error remains the same (approx 2-3 frames).
I know I should be monitoring through the BlackMagic's SPDIF out, but I don't currently have any way to amplify that signal. I also know USB audio is probably asking for trouble, but this should work with the right offset, no?
    Anyone shed any light?

You should be using audio that follows the video, else you'll get latency. Frame Offset is for those times when deck control might be off... certain HD signals and old rs422 caused this.
Your best bet is to figure out how to amplify the signal out of the decklink card.

  • Master Template Drop Zone Causes Frame Offset Problem

I created a template in Motion with two drop zones. When I use it in Final Cut as a master template, and drop in two video clips, the clips are offset about 4 frames from the originals. I can see this when I toggle the template's track on and off to see the underlying clips that got dropped in from my timeline. The cut points don't match up to what winds up in the template's dropzones for some reason.
This is a problem, because I'm using the template as a transition between full screen and a PIP-type effect.
The weird frame offset causes a visual glitch that I have to correct by adjusting the start/end points. This is extremely time consuming, as I have to apply the template to a huge number of clips.
I'm using the latest version of Final Cut Studio.

Just discovered that the frame offset increases the further I am into a clip.
I took a part from the beginning.. frame offset = 2 frames.
Took one closer to the end of a 4 minute clip.. frame offset = 14 frames.
The video is encoded in ProRes422 at 29.97 fps, and the Motion template is 29.97 also. Any ideas?

  • Audio Digital Analog Converter bit resolution

Hello ! i´m looking if I can use IPHONE to make my investigation project. Someone of you know which is the audio Digital Analog Converter bit resolution for a normal audio conversation? 13bits? thank you very much

MonoPrice.com has a digital to analog converter for around $25 although it looks like it is on back order. I would give them a call anyways. Don't get fooled by their prices, they are fast and cheap but good and the place to buy all your audio and video cables. I wired up my sisters entire home theater for less than a quarter of what I payed for my first HDMI cable which I didn't pay much for either.

  • One Frame Offset In Premiere Pro CS6

I have digitised from a Betacam deck and found there to be a one frame offset.
I digitised a picture that started at 00:02:00:00 and when in Premiere, the picture actually starts at 00:02:00:01 - a little disconcerting!
Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix?

Hi Steven.  Thanks for the input.  I also use plenty of handles on digitising and pre-roll is not the issue (it is set to 5 seconds).  Once the footage is captured, the source timecode reflected in PP is a frame out from what I know it to be.
Peter, I will give the offset control a try and see if it helps, thanks!
    Thanks for the feedback.

  • Difference?: Offset Audio Sync Tool and Audio Frame Offset Value

    Here's my Set-Up:
Editing a project shot film, audio recorded to CD. Xfer'd to DVCProHD with audio synced up. Downconverted capture to DV for editing in powerbook.
Computer: 1.67 ghz PowerBook G4 with 1.5 GB RAM
    Final Cut Pro Version: 5.0.4
    QuickTime: 7.0.4
    OSX: 10.4.4
    Editing timebase: 29.97 non-drop
    My problem:
I have clips that when played in the viewer are fine and in sync. When cut into the timeline some drift out of sync. If I apply the offset Audio Sync Tool at it's default 2 frames to the master clip and cut it back in it goes back to sync - for a while. Matchframe back to master clip and it's OK. Why is the timeline not holding the setting? Corrupt timeline?
When and how is the Audio Frame Offset (default is 4) found in Systme Settings/Playback Control used? Is there a relationship between it and the Offset Audio Sync Tool?
FWIW: tapes were batched captured - I have master clips that are all about 22 minutes long. I subclipped each take and scene for editing. When I use the offset audio sync tool I apply it to the long Master clips. The problematic Subclips don't seem to be affected if I try to apply just to them.
    TIA.

Being exported from tower mac, not laptop... we have tried exporting directly from final cut and from quicktime pro... sync is off when played on PCs but seems fine on the mac...we have tried adjusting the frame offset as well... do think it could have anything to do with clicking the box "prepare for internet streaming"

I don't see support for Snow Leopard.
It will never work with QuickTime X. Maybe an older machine with Final Cut installed would work.

  • Converting digital waveform into bit sequence

    Dear friends,
I am stuck with the task of converting a digital waveform (16 bit values) into
    the following waveform:
each sample of the original waveform should be represented by a sequence of
bits (or H and L analog values) in the second waveform,
the duration of the bit sequence should be half (in general arbitrary fraction)
of the sample clock period of the original waveform,
the bit sequence should be padded by zeros so that the total duration of the
bit sequence and the pad equals to the sample clock period of the first
    waveform.
I tried to represent these two waveforms in the picture attached.
It would be really great if someone could give me hints/suggestions to this
    problem!
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi SamboNI,
    Thanks for your reply!
    I have couple of notes:
I tried to implement your instructions but the LabView gives error message
    (please see the screenshot attached).
I guess there should be "Boolean to (1,0)" VI between "Number to
Boolean Array" and "Build Array" VIs (?)
The problem I have is a bit more complex:
I have a digital waveform (16 bit integers). I need to transform the waveform
in the easiest and fastest way into the following form:
Each sample of the original waveform (16 bit integer number, i.e. 5) should be
represented by a sequence of 0s and 1s corresponding to the bit sequence of that number (0000000000000101 for 5) padded
by a sequence of zeros (i.e. 00000) in the final waveform. I will use the
final waveform to drive single line of the 6534 board instead of 16 lines of
this bopard in the case of the original waveform.
    More generally:
I need to realize communication protocol with the AD5541
Digital-to Analog converter from Analog Devices (
    http://www.analog.com/en/prod/0%2C2877%2CAD5541%2C00.html ) using 6534 NI
board. Therefore I need also build SCLK and CS waveforms and synchronize
them with the DATA waveform I was talking above. Is there a way to do this?
By the way - do LabView have standard means to communicate
with devices like AD5541? Does it require a special software module and/or
    hardware board?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Frame offset option

    Hi,
Is there a frame offset option in FCPX like there was in FCP7 to delay the video in the viewer so that it is in sync with an external monitor which is slower than the main display? I needed this when using my Matrox MXO in FCP7
    Many thanks

There is no external monitor capability in FCP.

  • How to encode Dolby Digital (AC3) 24 bit

I noticed that all my dolby digital setings in Compressor are in 16 bit. Is there a way to have them set on 24 bit. In A.Pack, you could encode the audio in 24 bit.

I could be misunderstanding something, but I've been reading Apple's whitepaper to make sure of the details.
"48 bit" is unclear, because it could mean 12x4 or 16x3.  Both combinations are impossible with ProRes 422.

  • Frame Offset Playback Control in FCP HD Not Working

if I output my audio via firewire, it works just fine. However, I am unable to playback audio in sync via built-in audio (which sounds far better than my firewire output device).
I've gone to to my FCP System Preferences; Playback Control and it has a default offset of 4 frames. But it's still out of sync. However, if I manually offset my audio in the timeline by 4 frames, it's IN sync. I've tried various frame rates in the Playback and it never syncs, in fact it appears as though nothing is changing, no matter what I set it at.
What am I overlooking or doing wrong? It just doesn't make sense.

I'm having the same problem on capture. I'm migrating from a PowerBook 800 to an Intel Imac. I need the Keyspan Serial to USB adapter to run the 422 port on my BetaCam player. I finally got it hooked up tonight.
I grabbed a piece of video, and I'm getting two error's. First, like you, I'm 4 frames off (I'm using a Window Dub so I see the offset). Secondly, when I stop the capture I get a window telling me there is some discrepancy with my captured audio rate. When I look at the setting for the clip, all the frame rates seem to match. When I check the video, the lip sync is indeed off.
So I'm using the same Keyspan adapter I've bee using using in Panther. Now I'm in Tiger, and I have what seems to be the latest, Intel Mac Keyspan update.
But when I type in an offset number. and hit return, it doesn't "take". There is no change on the offset if I do another capture, and when I go back to the setting, it is at zero. I remember in Panther the current offset number was always visible.
Any suggestions? I'm trying to get the offset to take, so I can capture proper time code on this BetaCam dub.
    Thanks.

  • Looking for "Picture Frame" Plugin for CS5 64-bit

Hello!  I went to slap a plain ol' picture frame on a photo image in CS5.  The kind of frame that looks like those you have hanging on your walls.  Not acid etched edges or canvas texture overlays, etc.  I found that nothing I had would do what i wanted.  I am looking for something like the old Extensis Photoframe or Alien Skin SPLAT!  The onOne PhotoFrame 4.5 Free version doesn't have what the old Extenses version had.  Has anyone looked inside onOne PhotoFrame 4.5 Standard?  I'd like to konw before I cough up $150 for the plugin.
Are there other plugins that will put an ordinary looking mitered picture frame on an image in CS5 64-bit?
    Thanks, - Dave

Hello John!  Thanks- I didn't know those actions were there.  I'm working with big files though and the frames come out kind of skinny.  I'm sure I could edit that actions but I'm looking more for a slap-it-on-and-forget-it solution.  The link to Exchasnge sure does have some amazing stuff.  I'm glad to know of the resource.  The search results were pretty dated though, so I'm not sure which will work with Win64 + PS64 bit.
I guess a SPLAT! or Extenses PhotoFrame replacement doesn't come to mind out there?  I found sometning that is along the lines of what I'm looking for:
    http://www.humansoftware.com/pages1200/ClassicFrame/gallery_v1/clasfram9.html
These are a bit more fancy than I had in mind and are take it or leave it, where Splat! and the old PhotoFrame were tweakable.
I'll keep on looking.  Anyone else jump in if a light bulb goes off.

  • Randomly frame offset when capture!

24.07, 24.97, 24.72... this is what I can see in my QT-player when reviling info. My attention is to capture an 25 fps QT. How is this possible?
    This is my specs:
    codec: AJA VUY
    tape: digibeta
    capture card: aja cona LH
    FCP: 6.0.4
    Protocol: Sony RS-422
    QT: 7.5
My info in FCP timeline is telling me that it is a 25 fps video.
The capture preset is set on 25.
In the device control preset my Time source is set on LTC, frame rate: 25, capture offset: 00:00:00 and capture offset on -2.
This leads to serious problems when trying to sync the material.
    Please help!
    /Tobias

I have just given this a quick browse but I think it just explains how to make slides match the frame size. I used keynote to make the slide - probably not the best but I don't have photoshop. But the principle should be the same?
But using an incorrect slide size shouldn't affect the aspect ratio of the final video should it?
After I create the .mov file from FCE I use MPEG Streamclip to produce an .mp4 version to upload to the internet. If I use Streamclip to view the stream info it still shows a frame size of 720 by 480.
    Am I missing something?

  • Motion to FCP - frame size changes a tiny bit??

I've done about fifty Motion sequences I'm incorporating into an FCP - NTSC DV anamorphic project.
The Motion sequences are NTSC DV 'anamorphic' 16-9. I output them as 'uncompressed 8 bit'. I bring them onto the FCP timeline, also 'uncompressed 8 bit'. I notice the frame is just a hair's breath smaller ... a thin line of black across the top of the frame (though it fits the sides and bottom). I have to resize it to fit.
    Any thoughts on this?
    Ben

I think I've had that same issue, although I don't work with anamorphic.
I realized the "problem" is that motion's pixel ration is NTSC D1/DV and it has to be changed to Square before exporting it to FCP.
You change that in edit > project properties > change it there.
I dont know if this is your problem, but that was mine and it seems similar
    I hope this helps.
