3 inch disc stuck in disc drive

I accidently put a 3 inch disc in my mac book disc drive and now it's stuck. Does anyone know how to get it out? Thanks.

You can try to shake it out, but if you aren't successful you need to take it in for service in order to have the disc removed.

  • Too Small CD Stuck in Disc Drive!

I have a small CD disk in the slot for the optical disc drive. Probably too small, and it is non-conventional shape, straight-sided. Computer does not recognize that the disc is there, and none of the usual techniques to eject work. Is this now a mechanical repair job?
I have a MacBook Pro, 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, running 10.5.5.

I strongly recommend that you take the computer to an Apple repair shop. Depending on how far you've managed to get the disc inserted (and stuck) you may not have done any damage to the drive. However, given the nature of the slot loading drive, an amateur's attempts to dislodge it by mucking about with various instruments could result in a hefty repair fee.

  • CD Stuck in iMac Disc Drive, Mechanical Problem

I, surprisingly, could not find a good solution for this on Google because of the vast number of people with software-related disc jams and bad tutorials.
I put a Windows 2000 recovery disc in my Mac so I could test to see if I could make a disk image from it and mount it as a real CD...anyway, I should have known that the HP-made disc would get stuck in my drive. It felt kind of strange as if it was the wrong thickness.
Now, I cannot eject it nor can I see the disc trying to be ejected due to the flaps on the drive blocking it. I tried feeling around with a credit card, but there was a metal bar blocking the disc. If I try to eject it, it keeps trying over and over again but can never eject it.
I'm looking for a hardware-related way to get this out. I know about the "click on bootup" and "force eject" methods, but those will not work.

I can't recall exactly what I did to make the credit card work that first time. About 1/3 the way from the edge of the slot (top of the slot on my iMac), you can feel some mechanism that's closed normally. When you go to eject the disc you can feel that mechanism open and you can hold it open using the card. I recall it took a lot of fiddling to get the thing to pop out, so I can't say exactly what I did. You can try to use the card to sort of coax the disc out or push it up or down, depending on which way it's having trouble ejecting...
Sometimes you can see the disc poke out a little only to do back in. In those times I've thought about getting a pair of tweezers to grab it, but usually didn't end up having to. Could be a two-person job.
If nothing works, before taking it to a shop I'd try opening the bezel. I don't know how or why but that really did the trick for me last time I went through this.

  • DVD stuck in disc drive

    Hi everybody,
I currently have a DVD stuck in my disc drive. I fell asleep yesterday night watching the DVD using the "DVD Player" application that is the default for playing a DVD. When I woke up, DVD Player wouldn't quit and I had to force quit the program. I didn't use the DVD Player for the rest of the day, but in the evening, I tried to reopen DVD Player to finish the DVD. It said: "There was an initialization error. A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]" I tried to eject the disc by pressing the "eject" button on the keyboard, but that did absolutely nothing. Now the DVD is stuck in the drive, not showing up on my computer, and I am not able to eject it. What can I do to get it out?
    Thanks
    -Marsha

Apart from the fact that you would need to use the mouse button, rather than the MBP's trackpad button, no, it shouldn't make any difference. Try shutting down the Mac (rather than restarting), then booting it up again while holding down the primary mouse button.
Another trick is to start up Disk Utility and , if the disc is visible, eject it from there.
Sometimes, if the problem is actually due to the drive itself not being recognised as present, a "PRAM reset" will make it appear again.
On PowerPc Macs you can achieve the same result using "open firmware" commands, but unfortunately these don't work with the Intel models.
    Cheers

  • 2 cd's are stuck in disc drive

i have 2 cds stuck in disc drive an do not have phone service for apple care help nor can i get to a service center

Then you'll have to either wait until you can get the machine to a service provider or remove the drive, take the cover off it, and remove the discs manually. You can find good illustrated instructions for removing the drive here:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Browse/MacBook_Pro
Be careful to pick the right instruction set for your particular MBP model, and don't try the do-it yourself procedure unless you have the necessary tools.

  • A disc is stuck in the drive, how do I troubleshoot?

a disc is stuck in the drive, how do I troubleshoot?

    Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

    Hi
I have a disc stuck in my drive. When I eject its stats to come out, sounds like it gets wedged, then goes back in again. Is this as serious as I fear and is there an easy way to get the disc out without resorting to striping out the drive.

  • Small Disc into the disc drive problem due to it now being stuck!

My little sister borrowed my Macbook this morning and was uploading software onto it and it came on a small disc - she didn't realise but said disc wouldn't work on my laptop and just shoved it in. Now it's stuck.
I'm sure other people may have had this problem, anyone know now how to get said disc out of my disc drive without damanging it....

Most reports are that you can take it to an Apple Retail Store and they'll extract it as a courtesy. There are several in your reported area. They could conceivably charge for it though. It might be helpful to get an appointment, but you might not need one. You could just call ahead and ask if you should get an appointment or just walk in.

  • How do I eject a disc stuck in my drive?

How do I eject a disc stuck in my disc drive?  I have tried all the normal eject methods.

    Hello stewmail,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the disk that will not eject.  I recommend the following steps:
If you can’t eject a CD or DVD
Choose Apple menu > Log Out, and then log in again. Try to eject the disc again.
If you still can’t eject the CD or DVD, choose Apple menu > Restart. While your computer restarts, hold down the mouse button or trackpad button until the disc is ejected.
You can find the full article here (the article title refers to Mountain Lion, but these steps will work for Mavericks too):

  • Cannot get my disc drive to eject.  It whirs like it want to eject but nothing happens.  Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

My G3 power PC, I cannot get the disc drive to open so I can put a disc into it.  I sounds like it is stuck.  Is there a way I can fix it without taking it in to a repair store?

OK, what you have is an iMac G4 17-inch USB2.0. Good work.
Unfortunately, that model is among the hardest to service at home. Getting one apart is a job of modest difficulty; reassembling it so the heat dissipation system works properly is more difficult. Many have succumbed to heat-related failures following improper reasesembly.
Did you try my suggestion of booting the computer while depressing the mouse button?
When you start the computer can you hear a short sound from the optical drive?
If you put a light fingernail pressure between the tray and the computer case, does anything move?
If you need it serviced professionally, unfortunately Apple considers that model obsolete and will not work on them. You'd need to find an independent repair shop that really knows G4 iMacs.

  • ITunes 11.4 The attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc drive didn't respond properly and can't recover or retry.

    27-inch, Late 2009
    Processor 2.66 GHz Core i5
    8 GB memory
    Software OS X 10.9.5
    iTunes 11.4
Can not burn a playlist in iTunes 11.4 to a CD, upon completion of the burn operation get error message, "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc drive didn't respond properly and can't recover or retry."  Receive this message using 2 different external drives that are Apple compatible. 1. is a Pioneer SuperDrive that I had replaced from a previous Mac in a OWC enclosure, 2. the other is a OWC 8X Slim Portable USB 2.0 External. After receiving the error message I can re-insert the disc into the drive and it will mount the disc and it will list all the songs with the correct size, but none of them will play. iTunes then comes up asking me if I want to import the CD, at this time iTunes has a (not responding) status in Finder. Can burn from finder with no problem, only have issue in iTunes.
    Background
Last year I took the iMac to the local Apple Store 3 times and they determined the optical drive was defective and replaced it, the last time even replacing the cable to it. When I attempt to burn playlist from internal Superdrive it states it can not burn due to media errors. I have tried Memorex, TDK and PNY  media with the same results. I thought purchasing the OWC Slim Portable USB 2.0 External would resolve the issue.  If I put a commercial audio CD into the Internal Superdrive it will not mount and will eject it, if I insert the commercial audio CD into the external drive it will mount and play. Now the extended warranty is expired on the iMac and I don't know what next to try.

After multiple attempts to both find an answer to this problem or to fix it myself I've given up and switched to a Windows PC. The same media works just fine at maximum write speed with no special tricks needed. I got my iMac specifically to manage my photographs and burn images for friends and family. It has been nothing but a big disappointment to say the least. To read messages saying I need to lower my write speed or buy more expensive CDs is just laughable. Unless I see something major change I'm sticking with my Windows PC.

  • How do I install Photoshop Elements 10 on my new mac that doesn't have a disc drive?

Help!  I have an old imac that has Photoshop Elements 10 installed on it.  I bought a new imac that does not have a disc drive.  How do I uninstall/reinstall on my new computer???  Is there a way besides having to purchase a disc drive?

    John
Thank you for working this through with me.
Okay, so I'm going to describe the step-by-step following of the instructions [which I thought I had done before ]. If you see where I'm making an error can you point it out to me.
    1. I clicked on the link in your post of May 13 which took me to a page called "Direct Download Links for Adobe Photoshop/Premier Elements 10". I have basic Elements, not Premier and I need to get PSE 10 onto a Mac, which the site says I will only need a "single .dmg file for each program".  Then I
    2. logged in to the Adobe account ( required by instructions ) set up when I bought the disc version last August.
    3. I turned "cookie control" to accept all; having a Mac I have no antivirus software nor any firewalls
    4. I "clicked here to visit this page" in the instructions .........BUT ............ that took me to a PSE 11 download page, not 10
    5. That dropped a .dmg called "AdobeDownloadAssistant.dmg" into my downloads box.
    6. I opened the .dmg file, which took me to a window with an "Install Adobe Download Assistant" folder icon which
    7. I opened. I was asked if I wanted to download it from the internet; I clicked "Open"
    8. Another window opened; its message said "The same version of the application you opened already exists on this system. Would
you like to run the version already installed?".
         A. Because I used the same Adobe i.d. when I tried the download on the Air as I used when I created the Adobe account on the
MacBookPro I wondered if Adobe thinks the PSE10 on my older MacBookPro is on the newer Air. I did check the Applications
listed in the Air's Finder and PSE 10 was not there although I had tried to install it earlier today before my first post on this matter
         in this forum.
         B. Given the above, I clicked on a "Run Now" option in the window mentioned in the first line of # 8 here and it
    9.  Took me to a Adobe Download Assistant window with a message "Make the most of your trial " referring apparently to 11
when what I want to put onto the Air is the 10 I bought last August. I did check the registration on Adobe's site of the purchase
of 10 last August and it showed everything correctly, including "mul" which I took to mean I could put it on multiple laptops.
         Maybe !
    10. I was aksed in that box to choose my level of familiarity with photo editing software and I chose the middle one.
    11. I also noticed in the bottom third of that box a blue download bar which got "stuck" at about 2/3 done. The yellow triangle with
an exclamation point inside was followed by this message : "Error downloading this product (Error 109). Check you network
connection or destination disk. You can also uses the "Reset product download" button.  My network connection was full bars
         the whole time.
Given that there was an error message - that the download was not complete - that explains my surprise in # 8 above that
"the download already exists........". That can't be given the error message I quoted in # 11.
    12. There is/was no "Reset download button" to be seen so I cllcked on an 'x' by it and it closed the stalled download bar.
And, after all this voluminous [sorry] activity that's where I'm stuck.
No PSE 10 on the Air
    Can't d/l a trial of 11, even if I wanted to.
    Extremely frustrating.
Adboe's website does not appear to offer any contact with an Adobe person to solve this other than paying $39, which does not seem right.

  • Replacing the disc drive

    Hi guys,
I got a problem with my European macbook pro (13 inch, model early 2011) disc drive. I accidentally changed the Dvd Region Code five times and now I only can play American Dvd's and no European ones. And I was told that the only way to fix this problem would be by replacing the disc drive.
Is that true and how much does it cost? Or should I just buy an Apple Super Drive?
I really hope someone can help me.

Yes it is true that you can only change that in your MBP by replacing the Disk Drive.  Probably the option would be to get an external region free disk player. Note that you may have legal constraints based upon where you reside.  As far as costs go for replacement, that you can only find out by contacting the service facility.
    Ciao.

  • Disc drive

    i'm on a macbook g4 15" with 10.4.11
i've been having a problem with my disc drive for awhile. I accepted a while ago that it was probably just physically broken, but I noticed recently that when I insert any sort of disc, whether it be a pristine DVD or crappy wav. CD that it does seem to read the disc and everything, yet it spits it out after about 15 seconds and never mounts an image or anything. I'd appreciate any help, because if I can't fix this, I may have to buy a new computer, which I'd rather not do on a college student budget.
