3 levels on TLN

Hi all,
I have to customize the TLN, to a 3 level pattern.
There are lot of blogs on 2 level but nothing is found for 3 levels.
Please help me in this if somebody has already achieved this requirement.
How can i change the source TLN that the TLN will be with 3 levels?

Hi Yossi,
try to program this using the navigation taglibs.
You can create a navigation including the CSS you want.

11 months ago SAP released a whitepaper about new UI technologies:

Has anyone heard anything more about the following bits:
"L-frame containing the portal navigation tree can be cached in the browser"
"browser will receive a face-lift to modern, AJAX-based UI and behavior"
It also stated:
"A detailed roadmap and timeline will be published by SAP in the near future."
but I haven't seen anything - has anybody else?
Has anybody seen a roadmap / timeline? Dates or SPS level etc.?

Overlapping of TLN - Level 2

Hello,
The attached screen shot TLN_2.jpg shows the overlap of 2nd level of TLN in Firefox . In IE or chrome there are no overlaps.
The overlap disappears when i adjust the height from 38px to 50px in Div of the Main table ie TLN via developer tools.
I tried changing the height property in Theme for the main table as well as second level table but it deosnt reflect in Firefox.
Please let me know how can i achieve it.

Since I can't see the code and CSS I can't really know what's the actual problem.
Are you using position absolute or relative there?
if not maybe your margin/padding is incorrect?

How to create 3 levels of Top Level Navigation?

I have a requirement to create 3 levels of TLN in this manner:
Role A
RoleAFolderA | RoleAFolderB
RoleAFolderAViewA | RoleAFolderBViewB
In the help, it says I can have only 2 levels max. How can I configure the TLN to display the third level too?
If this is not possible, what is a work around?

Problem with WPC and Top Level Navigation

Hi all...
I have one problem. I'm using WPC and my role name is shown in Top Level Navigation (TLN).
For example:
Role name: Test
navigation nodes: company, About Us, Finnancial, News...
"Test" role is shown on TLN first level and the first level of navigation node is shown on TLN second level.
How can I remove the role name from TLN first level? I already changed the entry point parameter to "No" however this case the navigation node disappear from TLN.

How to move Top-Level Navigation tabs from left to center side

Hi,
Is there a way to modify the TLN tabs to display on the center side instead of the left? (as if it were a align = center in the code of table)
I tried to change printLevel1Table and printLevel functions in toplevelnavigation.js.org file, but it not work.
Please tell me which jsp or par file I need to modify this.

Yes TLN tabs can be made to displayed with center alignment. Try analyzing the code of TLN.

Top level navigation to be re organized to come in one page

Dear SDN,
I have one requirement. I want to change the Portal Theme in such a way that Top level navigation to be re organized to come in one page istead of scrolling left or right. Suppose the user having more than 20 roles then he shouldnt be scrolling more times to left or right for the roles, thats why we want that in one page.
Can anybody please help me to solve this. Is there any way where we can set all roles visible in one page??

There is a step wise procedure for how can you set Navigation Level to 0.
I. Configure Top-Level Navigation
       1.      In the Portal Catalog choose Portal Users-> Standard Portal Users. This folder contains the Default Framework Page.
       2.      Right-click Default Framework Page and choose Open ->Object.
       3.      From the Page Content List, select the Top-Level Navigation iView and click Properties.
       4.      In the Navigation property category, scroll to the Number of Display Levels property and enter the value 0, 1, or 2, depending on how many navigation levels, if any, you want for top-level navigation.
Choosing 0 removes top-level navigation and displays your navigation structure in the Detailed Navigation iView.
       5.      Click Save.
II. Configure Detailed Navigation
       1.      From the Page Content List of the Default Framework Page, select Desktop Innerpage and click Open.
       2.      From the Page Content List of the Desktop Innerpage select the Detailed Navigation iView and click Properties.
       3.      In the Navigation property category, scroll to the Start at Level property and assign a value that is one higherthan the value of the Number of Display Levels property in procedure l. Configure Top-Level Navigation. For example, if top-level navigation is configured for one level, the detailed navigation begins on the second level, that is with the value 2.
Detailed navigation is not automatically synchronized with top-level navigation; the values that you enter for top-level and detailed navigation must agree. For example, if you enter the value 1 for top-level navigation, while detailed navigation still has the value 3, one level is left out, creating a gap.
       4.      Click Save.
III. Configure the Content Area
       1.      From the Page Content List of the Desktop Innerpage, select the Content Area iView and click Properties.
       2.      In the Navigation property category, scroll to the Number of Display Levels in TLN property and enter the same value as that of the Number of Display Levels property in procedure I. Configure Top-Level Navigation.
       3.      Click Save.

Top Level Navigation Problem

Hi guys,
recently, I ran into something really strange. The Top Level Navigation (TLN) became faulty. If the user clicks on certain entries in First Level Navigation or Second Level Navigation the content area is not loaded properly. The content area stays empty as well as the detailed navigation iView (no navigation entries listed). Furthermore, the TLN does not get updated.
The weird thing is it only affects a few users and the set of affected navigation tabs is different for every user. The problem affects standard tabs (System Administration, Content Administration, etc.) as well as custom tabs. The set of affected users and the set of affected tabs seems to be arbitrary chosen.
A new log entry is written every time the problem occurs. Find an example below:

While searching SDN I found a SAP Note that might be interesting. SAP Note 982496 contains the description of a similar problem with almost the same error message. However, this SAP Note describes a problem of NW 2004 SPS 17. A problem that should be solved in newer releases. We patched our system last time (NW2004s SPS 09) a few month ago. We never had any similar problems until last week when the above described problems started.
Unfortunately, the problem starts to escalate. More and more users and more and more navigation tabs are affected.
Does anyone of you have any experience with this kind of problems? Please suggest how to troubleshoot and solve this very annoying problem. Of course, I am going to reward helpful answers.

thanks for your suggestions.
1) Clearing the browser cache did not help at all.
2) We disabled the navigation cache a long time ago. That means navigation is not cached.
3) We are going to restart the portal server today. I keep you updated.

Javascript error in TLN=1

Hi everybody, i'm working in EP SP13; i put TLN = 1 in the way the documentation says.
Now (sometime) i get a strange javascript error during the navigation in the portal: it says "object required" on row 777.
When i get this error i'm not able to navigate anymore in the portal, it always remains in the home page.
The problem gets solved when i put TLN=2 again.
What could be the cause of this behaviour?

Hi Pier,
You should change number of TLN levels in two places:
1. In the TLN iView - the property Number of Display Levels.
2. In the Desktop Innerpage (inside the framework page) - the property Number of Display Levels in TLN.

Why I must click twice Back Link in TLN to get back to Area Page

Hi everyone, i need a little help about TLN. I'm developed webdynpro application and i have integrated it with ess. The problem is arise when I click Back link in top level navigation (TLN) from my iview (custom application). I need to click this link twice to get back to area page (actually just one click to go back to area page). How i handle this problem ? Thank you.

I have a button in my iview (custom application), when i click this button, the page will be back to area page but Detailed Navigation will be display (i have setting this to be hide), why this happen ?
Sorry, didn't get your question. Do you mean to say that you want to hide the detailed navigation on the Area page. Is this Area Page a custom application ? What is the code written on the click of button ? Is the Area Page an iview within a page and then attached to role or workset or just an iview attached to role or workset ?
Have you changed the following property of iview or page (for Area Page) "Initial State of Navigation Panel" to closed ?

Changing the Height of Top Level Navigation

How do I change the height of the Top Level Navigation? I went into the framework page I am using, and then opened the Top Level Navigation iView, and changed the Fixed Height to "100" pixels while leaving the Height Type as "Fixed", but this had no affect.
I am using just one level of TLN, and trying to increase the height of that one level so it is easier to see in the page.

I have already downloaded the PAR file and customized it, and am using it in my custom portal framework. Which part of the code do you recommend I modify? There is the portalapp.xml file, which specifies the height as 45 pixels, but this is just the default size, which should be overridden by the value I specify in the iview, right?
As far as the theme editor, that doesn't help me. I have to increase the size of the top level navigation, not just change the font.

Levels of navigation...

Hi,
I have a scenario wherein we have "XYZ" as the top level navigation.
Under "XYZ" we have "ABC" and "DEF" as the second level of navigation.
When I click on "DEF" I should see a third level of TLN.
But when I click on "ABC" I should not see the third level of navigation.I should just see the detailed navigation.
Is this possible?

Yes...it will be added to the default framework page and thus be used on all other pages. That's why I don't recommend doing this.
One possible workaround
If you need a 3rd top level navigation (especially without the detailed navigation panel being displayed), you could create a custom iView that displays only the 3rd level of navigation using the Navigation Tag library. Add that iView (without the tray) to all pages within this section of the portal above the other content on the page. It will give the appearance of being a 3rd level navigation menu without actually being part of the framework. This would be a lot harder if you still want to use the detailed navigation since you would need to find a way to get that to start displaying at the 4th level for that section instead of the 3rd (no ideas there).
