3 libraries to one

I have just bought a new computer for the family. We have 3 different libraries (on different computers) but under same account. I want to consolidate all the libraries from the different computers to the one. We will then synch the i-pod's to the one computer as wll. I am in way over my head...any ideas?!

You're on the right track, but you're going to have to export and import projects to do this or you'll lose adjustments and EXIF data. Here's how I'd do it:
Consolidate the masters in all Libraries then copy them to the new drive.
Using the copies of the libraries on the new drive relocate the images while keeping the three libraries separate.
Then export all the projects from two of the libraries without consolidating masters.
Next Import the projects into the the 3rd library. Now delete the copies of the first two libraries, and keep the 3rd as your new library.
Finally, back everything up then delete the old libraries from the internal drives.
I urge you to carefully plan the file structure of your referenced images in the finder. I suggest a folder for each project.
Also be sure you FULLY understand Managed Files and Referenced Files, and the exporting and importing of projects. Do some small scale testing before you dive in.

  • Multiple Libraries on one computer

I want to store more music in iTunes than my iPod has room for (original iPod). I want to use one library for music that I don't want on my iPod and the other for the music I want to sync. I also want to be able to move music back and forth between the them.
How do I store music in multiple libraries on one computer without making separate computer user accounts or using the playlist work around?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, apple-rules

Yes, I am referring to the auto syncing of playlists. Not all of my music is assigned to playlists and I don't want to create them - too many songs.
As I mentioned in my original post:

I want to be able to store music in iTunes and play that music in iTunes without having them downloaded to my iPod. It would be nice to have a Library in iTunes that can be separate from the iPod stuff.
I think I found a work around (#12). Until I get a better solution I am going to create a master folder to which I will move all my music that I do not want syncing to my iPod. Then, I will do a manual sync and exclude that folder.
    Thanks everyone.

No it is not possible.  Content purchased from the iTunes Store is permanently tied to the account from which it was originally purchased, and Apple does not provide a way to change it.

  • Changing Libraries on one computer

    Hi,
I set up my families iPods all wrong initially, not understanding how 'playlists' worked, I wanted to keep our songs separate (massively different tastes in music!).
instead of putting all songs into one library and creating playlists (which you would think makes the most sense), i created two accounts / libraries.... one for me and my son on our pc, and a different one for my husband on our laptop.
i have since managed (with the help of this forum) to merge the two libraries into one on the pc. however, whenever I open iTunes on the laptop it is still my husband's old library.
I have tried 'sharing' but this is not really the best option.
Could anyone please recommend a way to perhaps delete my husband's library entirely and just have the one on the pc and laptop.
thanks for any help (and my apologies for the lack of grammar.... i'm trying to cook dinner at the same time!!!).
    Thanks,
    Sam

It depends somewhat on family dynamics and the age(s) of the kid(s), but for most cases it is better to have separate libraries, so that each person can add, delete, or change whatever they want. As any of you buy new content, the others can get a copy via iTunes Home Sharing or other convenient means.

Close iTunes. Now hold down the Shift key and keep it held until iTunes comes up. It will present you a choice of libraries. The choice you make will be in effect each time you open iTunes, unless you change it by doing another Shift-Start.

  • Two libraries on one computer??????

How can I have two seperate accounts w/ two seperate libraries on one computer?? SOMEONE HELP ME

You will probably have to use two different Windows user accounts for their particular iPod. I don't think you could have two different accounts on the same Windows user account.
And each account to there account/iPod, as well. This may be tricky, but can be worked out. But two user windows user accounts is probably a necessity in this kind of thing.
By the way, do you have two iPods, or are you just wanting to have two different iTunes accounts?

  • Two Libraries on one computer? Is this possible?

Hi- I am helping my parents get their ipods up and running. Is it possible to have two ipods/separate libraries on one computer? If so, do I need to download itunes 7 twice? My dad already has his library up and running on the computer and I need to add my mom's. Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance!

Apologies to all concerned for this threadjacking. I'll make it brief and be on my way.

  • HT1451 If I have two iTunes libraries on one computer, how do I know which one is opening when I click on the iTunes icon on the desktop?

If I have two or more iTunes Libraries on one computer, how do I know which one is opening when I click on the iTunes icon on my desktop?

    You cannot.
When you sync to a new library, it will erase the current content.
Use your backup copy of the old computer to copy everything to the new one.

  • HT202213 Two Itunes libraries on one computer.  Any way to share content between the two libraries?

We have 2 ITunes libraries on one computer.  Is there a way to share movies, music, etc. between the two libraries?

To your second question, probably the easiest way is to set up another user account on your machine. Then when that user opens iTunes, it will be a new library (empty) that they can put anything they want into, and not corrupt your library.
With another user account, they can also customize their own desktop photo, desktop icons, etc. so lots of benefits doing it that way. Works out great for me and my 13 year old daughter so I don't have to see the latest Emo band hearthrob's face on my desktop.

  • Have multiple iTunes libraries on one machine?

    Hi,
I want to have multiple iTunes libraries on one machine (with two different hard drives, internal fore mp3s and external for AAC files). One library is composed of mp3s for an iPod, I want the other library to have AAC audio files for burning CDs. I would rather the libraries not be mixed.
I have read the article (#301748) for migrating an iTunes library and am preparing to migrate one of the libraries on to a external hard drive.
I have read about using Libra to maintain two different libraries on one machine. I was wondering if anyone does this and if they have encountered any problems? Is there a better solution?
    Thank you,
    TPK

It's one thing to want two music libraries on one machine and another to want two music libraries on one user account. For the latter, here's what I've done.
I created folders in my iTunes folder called, say, Main Library Folder and Second Library Folder. (These could be anywhere you find convenient.) I dragged my regular iTunes Library file into the Main Library Folder. Then I opened iTunes and created my second music library. When I finished that, I closed iTunes and dragged the just-created iTunes Library file into the Second Library Folder.
If I want to use my main iTunes library, before opening iTunes I drag an alias (Cmmd-Option-drag) of the iTunes Library file from the Main Library Folder into the iTunes folder. Then, when I open iTunes, iTunes reads my main library file. And of course, it works the same way for the second library.
Of course, you could just shuffle the actual library files into position in the iTunes folder from their holding areas, but I strongly preferred to get myself into the habit of relying on aliases, so I could leave the actual library file alone in their respective folders. You most definitely would not want to accidentally overwrite one of your iTunes Library files.
I'm sure one of the shareware products would do a more elegant job, but this just shows you that it's not a difficult process.
The alternative is to set up separate user accounts to access different libraries on the same machine. This has real benefits and, to me, should be the first option one considers. It's easier on the brain, as it sticks to iTunes' one-user-one-library model, and there's absolutely no risk of getting libraries confused. Fast User Switching on the Mac makes going back and forth between accounts easy. But if you really want to avoid using different accounts, and it's only you that has to keep things straight, the approach of jumping back and forth between different libraries in the same user account should be OK.

  • Making to user libraries on one computer?

Hey i was wondering if its possible to make two libraries on one Computer. Im on my laptop and my mothers songs are on here from her ipod and mine are on my desktop. Is there a way where i can keep her itunes songs on there and some how put my songs on there too without them both getting mixed in with each other

    Sure thing,
just click on the iTunes icon, immediate (and I really mean immediate ) hold down the Shift-key. You will see the option to shift between 2 libraries or to make a new one. Chose to make a new library and follow the instruction on your screen.

  • How do I save 2 iphoto libraries onto one external drive?

    Hi
I have an iphoto library on my MacBook Pro and I have an older library of different photos on my graphite iBook.
I'd like to store all my photos onto one external drive.
How can I do this without losing either library in the process?
I actually have the same question regarding music on iTunes.
    Thanks
    AS

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Do you want to merge these libraries into one? If so, then you'll need the paid version ($20) of  iPhoto Library Manager
It's the only way to merge Libraries while preserving all metadata, versions and so on.
Otherwise, simply rename one of the Libraries (so they don't overwite each other) and Copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder to the External Disk. in each case.
To choose which library to open: holf down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location.
