3 Logic / Mac BookPro / HD Questions

Folks, a few questions for you.... Thanks in advance.
I currently run the latest version of Logic Pro on a Dual 1.8 G5 and am about to purchase a Macbook Pro 2.16GHz, 2 Gig Ram in order to run Logic 'on the move'
Firstly, are there any compatability issues between running Logic on my current machine and then on a Macbook Pro? I've heard that there's an upgrade needed to run the software on a Macbook Pro?
Secondly, am I able to run my Logic Pro software on a second machine - are there any issues re. this? Never attempted to run any software on more than one machine before. What are the logistics involved?
Thirdly, I want to buy a fast, external HD to help with running Logic (A seperate Audio Disk if you like) on the laptop and have been looking at the Lacie 80gig, triple input one (orange / silver / rubber clad thing!) It's a 5400 rpm one that can operate as a USB 2.0 OR Firewire 800 HD. Is this sufficient speed in your experiences for Logic / Audio, or would a higher rpm HD be preferable?
Any info on the above points would be gratefully received. Apologies for the length of this request and thanks again.
Cheers.

oh boy, don't trust those reviews of 'rugged' triple interface lacie d2 drives.. I've opened them up before (with a technician friend authorised to do repairs) and I can tell you, it's all cheap componentry crammed into a 'designer' looking case. noeq is right though.. they perform well enough, and as long as you always maintain a good, consistent backup routine you will be safe. but really, those drives are marketed as something more than what they really are. I've had 6 lacie d2s over the years and all but one of them has had a serious, fatal problem after a period of time. the 2nd last one I got no longer works on FW400, the port has become sort of loose and you can tell the shoddy connector inside it has broken or is no longer stable enough for it to work. and more recently it has started making that 'tick of death' sound, so I've migrated all of my important data off it. the earlier 4 d2s I had all failed eventually.. sure you could say this is guaranteed to happen with any drive after a certain period of time, but these ones didn't last long enough IMO. and one of them just died over night with no warning, it just wouldn't mount anymore. another one fried it's own power supply. my latest one, the 500GB extreme, is still going fine.. but I've relegated it to the backup role for my new g-tech because I don't really trust it.
of course I could just be one of those people that has had a bad run with a product and just slams it from then on.. but, as I said, I don't know anyone that works in music that doesn't cringe when you mention lacie drives, from their own personal experience of a meltdown. so, go ahead and get one if it suits your budget, 7200rpm for sure. but be sure and remain consistent and religious about your backups just in case you fall in to the told ya so category. this applies to any drive you buy of course..

  • Alternating mac face and question mark after i tried to install OS X 10.3

I have a Powerbook G4 and I tried to update my operating sytem from 10.2.8 to 10.3 but it froze. After I restarted it I got an alternating mac face and question mark. It just ejects the CDs I try to put into it except for the installation disk for OS X 10.1.3. When I put that one in a smiling mac computer come up then all this type comes across the screen, something about kernels and panic.
Please help me, I've got a project due soon.

    Could someone please help me,
when i open my power book g4, an alternating Mac face and question mark appears, and no matter what I do it is still there.
it only changes when I insert the installtion CD of MAC OS X 10.3, but after the Apple logo appears, the screen went white and sometimes just blue, and it just won't work. Then after restarting, the alternating Mac face and question mark still appear.
i also tried the hardware test, after doing both of the tests, the result is consistently "passed". But after restarting, the same problem happens.
    what should i do?
    please help me
    thanx in advanced

  • Connection between Mac BookPro (early 2011), a Thunderbolt Display and a Wacom Cintiq 22'

I want to connect my Mac BookPro (early 2011) to a Thunderbolt Display and a Wacom Cintiq 22'. My Cintiq is connect with a DVI-Thunderbolt-Adapter to the Thunderbolt Display. The Cintiq-Display shows nothing. Is this connection impossible or do I something wrong?

You can't connect a non-Thunderbolt display or adapter directly to the port on the back of a Thunderbolt display.  It will work if you connect a Thunderbolt disk drive (with two Thunderbolt ports) between the two displays.

Do you mean the online Apple store or physical ones?  In any case, I'd expect the same rules to apply to both.  But I have no specialized knowledge about Apple's stores, so that's just a guess.

The only way you could try to locate the laptop is if you have an iCloud account and Find My Mac selected in System Preferences > iCloud prior to it being stolen.

Connect the AC charge to the system. Battery will charge to 100%.
But it is very bad to drain the battery to Zero. So don't make a habit of doing that.

  • ITunes store is not loading on my mac bookpro

I have a Mac BookPro and iTunes 10.4 but recently the store will not open. At times my iPhone 4 will not sync either. Just charges up. Sometimes it just pops up and sync's on its own a while after I plug it in.
But the iTunes store not loading is a problem because podcasts load, but are not recognized. When I play one, the screen just stays black at the end and I have to restart the computer to get out of it.
All this really started when I found out OS Lion was not compatable on the mac bookpro.
Apple won't talk to me about this at all. Guess they want me to buy a new laptop.
    Thanks for your help anybody.

    Hello christinachantal
Check out the article below to troubleshoot your access to the iTunes Store.
Can't connect to the iTunes Store

    Troubleshoot issues on a Mac
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store, a software conflict or your Internet service provider (ISP) may be blocking your access.
Update iTunes and Safari to the latest version.
If you have a firewall, your settings may be preventing you from connecting to the iTunes Store. Follow these steps to configure your firewall.
You may need to reset your keychain. Connection issues are occasionally caused by keychain issues. Learn how to use Keychain First Aid to resolve any issues with your keychain.
If you're receiving a specific error message, follow these steps.
If the issue still persists, contact your Internet service provider and confirm that these ports and servers are enabled over your network.

Yes. Those are minimum requirements, newer versions supersede them.

  • Dear I need to upgrade my Mac Bookpro from 10.4.11 to the latest software is there is any solutions in order to buy install the software online through itunes or so

Dear I need to upgrade my Mac Bookpro from 10.4.11 to the latest software is there is any solutions in order to buy install the software online through itunes or so

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X.)
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

  • I have a Mac BookPro 0S X 10.6.8 what do I need to upgrade

I have a Mac BookPro 0S X 10.6.8 what do I need to do so Im ready for when the new Mountain Lion comes out this summer? Do I need lion first if so what one?   I have always used a PC so if anyone could help me I would really appreciate it..

Far as anyone knows, some 64 bit Mac's will be excluded as not having enough graphics muscle to handle Mountain Lion.

If your on 10.6.8, my advice is to stay there, you have the maximum range of available software for that OS X version and all third party hardware, games and utilites etc., are still working fine for that OS version.
Right now some developers are transgressing to 10.7 Lion, many have started or not going to at all,
A lot just got blindsided with the 10.8 announcement as Lion has only been out several months.
You can see right here what I'm talking about, still a mixed bag with 10.7.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Actually you don't need to upgrade to 10.7, if something messes up on your machine your left on your own or have to call in a profe$$ional to rescue you.
There is no "must have" on Lion 10.7 really for most users to justsify the risk upgrading and many feel the drastic changes are unrealistic, it's just Apple pushing the envelope and changing the OS just for the heck of it to sell new hardware.
10.6 is the fastest, best OS X version Apple has ever made. Plus third party software is plentiful.
Until the same conditions exist again, I don't advise buying a new machine or OS upgrade until it does in your case.
