3 month old iMac produces little clicking sounds coming from the top

As of today, my three month old iMac is started to make little clicking sounds! It comes from to upper side. There in the neighborhood of the iSight. What is this???? It sounds like a hard drive. Is the HD located near the camera? I need a silent computer because I record audio in front of it. That was the main reason I bought the MAC, three months ago, brand new out of the box.
After three months of software headaches (leopard) , the hardware troubles start too!! My Compaq Armada Pentium 3 laptop is still flawless after years and years of heavy use. I also ran Windows XP for more than 3 years without having to reformat. I have reinstalled Leopard 3 times in 3 months.

  • Every time I scroll, there's a clicking sound coming from the top left corner of my macbook

Similar to the clicking sound of my hard drive, every time I scroll, or whenever there is any sort of animation on my screen, there's a similar clicking sound coming from the top left corner on my , around the area where the microphone is. I know the hard drive is at the bottom right corner, so is this a graphics card issue or am I overlooking the issue?

It is better to take the MBP to the Apple store for evaluation.
They have the diagnostic tools to make sure that there is no problem with the computer.

  • When I plug my headphones into my MacBook Pro, and I turn the volume up, I hear the little bubble sound coming from the computer speaker. What is wrong with my computer? I don't think it's the headphones, because i've already tried two pairs.

    How can this be fixed?

    Hi DS,
Thanks for the response. Unfortunatly those documents are of no help to me. I have tried several times to boot into the AHT, which didn't work. And attempting to do an internet recovery won't even allow me to log into my wireless network, even though I know the password is correct.Let us try to go through this step by step, as I've been doing.
    1) After resetting the NVRAM it still does not see any new hard drive, and I don't need to select the old HD to boot from it. If it is in it works.
Therefore this means that it is
         a) not the SATA cable
         b) not the new hard drive because my friend got his replacement HD today and I checked them both out. They both work fine on my other friends new macbook pro.
    2) The old hard drive can boot up regularly, and the new one can be seen via the SATA to usb connector and booted from, but not via the internal SATA connector.
Also, I still can't boot into Parted Magic, or any other rescue OS I have.
This seems like a very specific problem, and it definatly wasn't anything I did. I followed troubleshooting steps like I normally do and it wasn't a clusterfuck as you so elequently stated.
Please take the time to respond to all of my questions this time, I feel like you are overlooking some very important information.
    Thanks,

  • My sound coming from the internet on my MacBook Air is not working!

I bought this MacBook Air a month ago is the new one, everything was working well but suddenly the sound coming from the internet stop working.
My computer sound is working perfectly is just when I want to watch a video or listed a song from youtube talk on skype isnt working at all.
When I press the volume button i can hear it.
Can someone tell me what can it be?

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    4. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

  • I put a case on my iPod touch 5 and now there is no sound coming from the speaker.  The head phones work though.  I called Apple Support and the 2 people I spoke with seemed baffled.  Has this happened to anyone and how do I resolve this?

I put a Griffin case on my daughter's iPod Touch 5 and now there is no sound coming from the speaker.  There is sound when we use the headphones.  Is there a mute function that I may have switched on and if so how do I turn it off?
It was a gift bought by her Godparents in January and I live in the islands so I can't just drive it back to the store to have them look @ it!
Called Apple Support and spoke to 2 people who seemed baffled and who could only suggest I reset the device.  Who h has not helped.
    HELP!!!!!!!

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

When I turned on my computer this morning it had a new noise coming from the top of the screen at the back.
    Not loud but almost whirring.
    What might this be ?

    21.5 Mid 2010
Processor  3.2 GHz Intel Core i3
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Software  OS X 10.8.5 (12F37)
I just found an answer !
I had moved my computer into another room and had to turn up the brightness, as I have always had it on the lowest setting.  In doing so it created the noise, I turned it right down and it stopped.  I have now set it about level 3 so it's not so distracting.
    thanks

Hello , Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I understand that you are having an issue with your sound, and wanted to help! To start, can you provide me with the Product Number of your notebook?  Here is a link you can use that will help you find your Model and Product Number: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Also, did you have the issue before upgrading to Windows 10?  You can try using the HP Support Assistant to get the drivers you may need to resolve the issue for you.  You can also try a Hard Reset.  If that doesnt help, and this issue started after the upgrade, then you may consider using the Go back to an earlier build option, in your System Settings:HP Notebook PCs - Upgrading to Windows 10
Once you are back to your original Operating System, check to see if you are experiencing the same issue. If not, then you may consider holding off on the Windows 10 update for a few weeks, until drivers can be updated.

  • Low muffled sound coming from the speakers on IPod Touch

How can I resolve the low muffled sound coming from speakers on IPod Touch 4th generation?
Reset of apps was done and full reset of the IPod was done.

This is not normal and there is no solution you can administer from home without voiding any warranty you may have... i suggest taking it to your nearest apple store and letting them know, they are very good when it comes to these small problems and will most likely give you another iPod while they fix/throw away your old one... Do a backup first though, so you can load your files back onto the new one.

  • Clicking Sound coming from my Dual 2 ghz G5

Ive noticed lately that about every minute or so my g5 makes a clicking sound. Just once and consistently...It is not coming out of the speakers..seems more like some other piece of hardware inside is the culprit...any ideas?

    thisday-
    Greetings and welcome.
Does it make this sound no matter what you are doing?
Just for giggles and to eliminate it positively, try turning down the volume completely and make sure that it isn't coming from there.
Are there any discs in the optical drive? If so, try removing it and see if the sound goes away.
    Luck-

  • In my macbook pro retina display 15"l there is a constant clicking noise, coming from the left side of the computer. Any ideas ?

It goes on constantly while the computer i s on, with like a 2 second delay, and to be honest it's driving me mad. I may just end up taking it in, but if I have to get it replaced I dont want to lose all my files and programs.

You should have a backup in the first place. If you don't, buy an external drive (they're inexpensive these days) and make a Time Machine or a clone backup (using Carbon Copy Cloner).
Then take your machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and let them diagnose the computer. See if they can isolate what may possibly be making the 'clicking' sound.

  • Worrying sound coming from the fan of 110W, help!

    Hi all!
I am very happy user of MSI windpad 110w, but recently the fan of my tablet has demonstrated rather noisy behaviour. Loud "buzz" or sometimes crackling sound occurs when changing position, and "normal" quiet hissing is heard only when the tablet is lying horizontally on a flat surface. Has anyone experienced similar situation? I'm a bit worried.

Perhaps something got into it from the vent slots, only way to tell for sure is remove the back cover and check it. Remove the 4 rubber feet/pads to get to the screws and carefully detach the cover to inspect the fan. If nothing there then RMA for warranty.

  • MBP late 2011 - Weird digital noise coming from the top left speaker zone

Hello, it doesn't matter if the volume of the speakers is muted, doesn't matter if the volume is at maximum position or at the middle position, the noise will come whenever it wants, at the same very loud level. When the noise begins, the coloured disk appears, and the OS is freezing. Updating to the latest version of Lion didn't help. The hardware test, short or extended did not find anything wrong. Also resetting pram/nvram didn't help. Sometimes, and especially at startup, before the boot sound, the speakers can be heard popping/clicking. Even if it comes from the left speaker zone, i guess it's not from there, because this weird sound can be heard even through the hole of the network adapter, but any other sound when playing music comes only from the speaker, the LAN adapter hole is quiet (funny, isn't it?). This noise can be also described like the sound of an old printer... or almost like a Spectrum loading from tape...
But there is no problem at all in Bootcamp using Windows 7. I still need to use OS X, can anyone help?
Bellow You can hear the noise for Yourselves:

  • Continual sound coming from the computer

even when the computer is idle (could have sat for 2 hours) there is a constant gurgle sound (or light tap) (no jokes please) coming out of it. i've looked at the activity monitor and a prlvlapp and kernal_task take up anywhere from 5-10% each of the CPU. any ideas on what's going on? is this normal?

The shorter and longer test both came up fine. There's still that constant drip (faint plunking sound). The pattern seems to be a 1, 2 then nothing for a few seconds and then 1 and then quiet for a little bit then 1, 2, 3 and so on. I'm sure that's the hard drive but if the computer has been sitting for awhile or is just sitting it doesn't make sense that this would be going on.
