3 multicam shoot - one cam shot in NTSC, 2 others in PAL!

Ok so i go to make a multiclip in FCP7, 2 cams in PAL, 25fps, the other is ntsc 29.97 fps - frame rates have to match to make multicam - how can i remedy this? BOth shot using AVCHD and encoded as APPLE pro res 422
In log and transfer tool, is there a way to specify for it to convert 29fps to 25fps? how can i convert current clips to 29.97fps?
Ive only done a small amount (encoded) so can just edit old fashioned way what ive already done.

If you used ProRes there will be minimal loss. Your other option is to use ClipWrap2 to rewrap it as a QuickTime file without transcoding it and taking that to Compressor to recompress to ProRes and change the frame rate. There might be a slight improvement. I'd be much more worried about having to change the frame rate. That's really hard to do well in software and depends a great deal on the content and the motion.

I am having the same problem which has happened very infrequently before. Generally it's one photo and happened when my battery died.
However today I tried to download six photos.
None would download including several others for a total of 21 that would not download.
Since I had just installed a new powered hub and added three new external 4T hard drives, I got concerned that it was the hub. Then got really worried that I'd have problems with the data I have been backing up.
However following this sequence of events, I've determined it's not the hub, but still don't know what is causing the problem.
(1) Put a fresh battery in the camera - same results
(1.5) Used a different port in the new hub - same results
(2) Put the card in the card slot in the back of my iMac - no problems except that one image I knew about last week. The six new images imported.
(3) Tried again using the cable - still same error
(4) Changed cables - my husband has the same camera - still same error
(4) Put the card in his camera with his cable - still same error
(5) Put the card in a card reader and used the same slot in the new hub - no problems - same one wouldn't import but message that there are no new photos to import.
(6) Moved the offending one image to the Trash while the card was in the card reader
(7) Put the card back into my camera and used my cable. iPhoto had no error and displayed the message there are no new photos.
Conclusion:
Not the camera
Not the cable
Not the hub
Must remove bad photo from the card
However, I have not had to do that before. I went through several imports on vacation when there was one bad image and just ignored it each time.
Any idea why this is happening now?

2 Multi cam shoot- one shot in hdv other in ntsc dv

I used two cams to shoot event. One cam was a DV. Other was an HDV. How can i make my picture size the same. preferable to HDV.

If you want to use FCPs multiclip feature, both videos will have to be in the same format.
You can downconvert the HDV to DV on import, or upconvert the DV after import. Which way you want to go depends on your delivery format. If you're delivering on web or dvd, I'd go the downconvert route. Your DV footage will suffer greatly by upconverting to HDV, which is needless if you're delivering in SD.

Camera shot lists not exporting to the schedule

Very confused about not finding the camera shots I have established turning up in the schedule, this is critical for me as it best guages how I am to allow for setup times between shots. Please can someone help me abpout approaches in doing this or at least how I might export a list of these Camera shots I have logged in.

Ahh I see, interesting that this takes a bit to retrieve, as a Director, DOP, cinematographer or even producer this could be a very simple change to the schematics of a basic shedule that would improve Adobe story immensly. Having the basic tasks Story already achieves is of course profoundly usefull particularly as far as data entry is concerned but as I said, working with one camera, planning a shoot day with various setups (i.e. with camera shot angles) is crucial.
Thus far I'll probably use the initial spreadsheet data to build a more comprehensive shooting schedule outside of Adobe Story. I see so much potential with this software, will Adobe keep investing in this software to achieve these additional functions, do you see my point on this or is what I'm asking for irrelevent to the future of this software? Or would you see a different way of approaching what I'm asking for in relation to shooting with one camera?

One camera of three not syncing into color from FCP

Running lastest version of everything on imac 2 ghz intel core 2 duo 2 gb memory. Useing multi-sync to edit three camera shoot shot on vx 200 with p2 cards. Edit is great. One camera goes out of sync by a lot when importing to color.
tried export each clip from this camera and reimporting qt back into sequence. This worked expect, the clip got squished going into color.. didn't stay at HD settings, probably a pixel issue. Tried reexport using pro-res 422 HD 960x720 24p which was our camera setting.
This works but sometimes but not all the time. I get a render error "can't find capture card".
The camera that goes out of sync is in two parts, thus the multi-clips had to be
resynced... this shouldn't be an issue with xml as it's reading the time code unless the timecode is the same on both clips...hmmm...

From the Release Notes:
"Known Issues Affect Sequences Containing Multiclips That Are Sent to Color
Sequences that contain multiclips have known issues that affect Final Cut Pro to Color round trips."
Color does not like multiclips. Too bad the forum search function is disabled as solutions have been offered up, I just can't remember them currently as I rarely touch the FCP multiclip function.

FCP vs FCExpress- 2 camera shot effect

Using one camera, I learned recently that there is an effect in FCP, that allows you to do a 2 camera shot; meaning you can zoom in and out to keep your audience engaged and to create the effect of having 2 cameras, when you only are using one camera.
Does anyone know if this effect is in FC Express, or is it only in FCP?
This effect seems great as you don't need to have 2 cameras but get the effect that you have 2 cameras

I think the process the OP is referring to is where you shoot in HD 1920 x 1080 and then edit on an SD 720 x480 time line.
This gives you the ability to place the clip on the timeline, filling the 4:3 frame at only 50% scale of the source clip:

and then, you can rescale up to 100% to zoom in on the image, with no loss of quality:

I have used this technique before on interviews, you just have the camera frame wide, edit that on to the timeline at 50% scale, then either jump in to 100% framing for either effect or to mask an edit, It's like having two cameras on the shoot ( and color matched, as well).
The trick to successfully doing this correctly is to be able to see a monitor that displays the 4:3 marker guidelines over the HD image, so you can see you are getting the correct framing on the wide shot.

Multiclip editing - what to do if one camera is not continuous synch?

I've got to edit a one hour show overnight. Two cameras. One camera is shooting continuous, only one stop to change tape. The second camera was stopping and starting all the way through. I synched up the clips of the start\stop camera all the way through on track two. Synched in camera one where it starts up after a tape change. So I have a timeline with the whole show, made up of two tracks of clips. Is there any way I can use the 'multiclip' editing function AFTER I've synched up the two cameras?
The only thing I can think of quickly is to export the two cameras one at a time from the edited timeline, in the same format, and create new contiguous single clips for each all the way through. Then import these new one hour clips to do multi clip editing (all the blanks filled with black slugs). I'd like to avoid all that render time. And a second generation Quicktime.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated,

I agree that the ol' split screen effect is a good way to edit multiple cameras, if you only have two cameras, it's still a bit of a waste of time. If there are only two shots from which to choose, it's a binary selection. In the olden days, I'd simply turn off the camera 2 track and razor blade out and delete all useless footage from camera 1. The holes MUST be filled by camera 2. Where there are overlapping shots, it should be easy to choose the better.
Your three camera shoot could benefit from two things:
1. A tailboard meeting where you explain why you expect each tape to roll continuously
2. Communication via walkietalkie or wireless intercom (rent them)
3. A big digital clock with seconds hung on a wall where all cameras can see it. If any camera gets stopped (it happens) or batteries die, they can shoot the clock for ten seconds to provide accurate sync..

Multicam edit with camera that starts and stops

I am editing a multicam shoot and want to create a multicam clip with my two cameras. Camera A never stopped running, but Camera B stop several times. The time code was synced on Free-Run so there is no issues with syncing, but I want all camera B's footage to be on the same video track. Right now when i select all the clips FCP creates a multicam clip with several video tracks (for every new clip). Is there a way i could have it place every clip from camera B into one track so i can edit using camera 1, camera 2, as opposed to going up to camera 50?

No, it's an elegant and practical solution to the production problem caused by your shooter. Free running timecode will drift (rather hopelessly) so you're not really gaining anything tanglible. You still have to sync the clips visually, you won't be able to depend on t/c except as a guide. Which is convenient but not solid.

Logging incorrectly-acquired footage doesn't amount to much, but, if you need to recapture, you're in luck. If you consolidate the footage into a single clip as suggested, recapturing is simply a question of replacing footage into the master clip and exporting it again.
I've also heard about using camera angles. does anyone know if this would be an option for this?
You only have two cameras and two angles. What have you heard about angles that would suggest them as a solution? Maybe if we understood how you have misunderstood angles, we could help you clear that up.

Feature request Camera Shot--Shot listing

Hi Guys.
Not sure what is the best way to explain this but I'll give it a shot.
When you are shot listing, Story gives each new shot a number, which is great, but there are times when you have to disable the numbering check box because you want to manually number the shot. Lets say you have a steadicam shot and you want to be specific about where the camera is in relation to certain lines in the script, you will start the first beat of the shot as shot 10 and each time you enter new camera information, but want to keep that as shot 10 because it's one continuous shot, so you disable the numbering and you writing in, "shot 10 cont'd for all the beats you want."
Now what happens if later on you added a shot above shot 10? Story turns shot 10 into shot 11 in the number sequence, which is great, but all the beats you manually put in have the incorrect numbering. You will have shot 11, then below it, shot 10 cont'd for all the beats of that steadicam shot.
So what I'm proposing is that in the Camera Shot function, where the check box is to disable the automatic number assignment if you can add a cont'd check box, so you can tell the program remember that this shot is a continuation of shot 10, so even if I add a shot before shot 10, the program will able to track that change and change the 10 cont'd to 11 cont'd as too.
Does that make sense??

This makes sense and we will be augmenting this feature to support different kinds of shots in the coming months. We'll surely pick this up as well.

How can I create a "Camera Shot" list report?

Adobe Story allows you to annotate a script with "Camera Shots", but where is the facility to index and print these out as a list?

Sorry I didn't explain the 'camera cards' report in my previous post. Below are the steps to generate one from a Script. Though I am not sure if generating this report will solve your problem or not.
'Camera Cards' is just the name of that report. When you run that report on a script, it will list out its 'camera shots'.
To generate the 'Camera Cards' report from a script, you can try the following steps:
- open the script
- click on the reports button and select 'Camera Cards [Script]' from the drop down.
- Click on Generate button to create the report
This report will then list out the 'camera shots' of a particular camera number in each scene.
e.g. in the screen shot below, the first page of this report is listing out the 'camera shots' of scene 2 that have camera number '1'

How to get slide change without a noise like a camera shot?

I have imported a PP2013 slideshow into CP 8.
The animation is working correct.
But when the slide changes to the next one,
there is a noise lik a camera shot.

Correct, when you query the CMS database it will return the info for the object and not the source.
In code you can use this for Crystal Reports:
reportClientDocument.SummaryInfo.( multiple values )
This is the info saved with the RPT file, you can also use Windows File API's to get the same info.
For WEBI and DESKI doc's it does not keep that info in the file system. You may want to look at the file system properties in the FRS to see if any info is kept as it is in RPT files but we ahve no API to get the info.

Stabilizing a shaky camera shot

I've been told there is a filter that could minimize the shaking of a hand held camera shot, so long as the shaking isn't severe.
Is anyone familiar with this filter?

If the OP, after almost three months, is still having trouble figuring out how to stabalize his shot, then I think there's some serious problems.
Surely one can figure out how to stabalize a shot using Shake in that amount of time, and that's even including the "dude" that said it ain't easy to learn. I mean.. that statement alone should tell you who is having trouble learning the program. I think people use the "steep learning curve" as an excuse to deter themselves from even attempting to learn the program and you can either choose to become one of them and let it deter you as well or...

FWIW Final Cut can be said it has a steep learning curve. Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Logic can also brand the same title.
Some dudes out there can even say iChat has a steep learning curve for Apple's sake! Let your passion take over your fear and frustration of learning and the excuses will subside!

Adding Camera Shot Changes Template

I LOVE the camera shot idea. LOVE IT!
However, how can I get it to work WITHOUT changing my formatting? I want my film script to still look and feel like a film script, not whatever it's changing to.

I only do film scripts, so I'm not sure what it's changing it to. By why does it have to change? Can't it add the note to the BEFORE version and call it good? That would make me very happy!

I've never used this before and stumbled upon it and saw some potential for my projects.
One thing I hate is writing SHOT lines. But sometimes you have to write them as you see them in your head before they disappear. I don't mind writing them, I just hate them taking up "real" space in my script. Sometimes I will put them in the comment section, but they can get missed sometimes that way. I thought this would be a good way to keep them present on the script and NOT affect your total page count.
BTW, can you print comments onto a script on the same page they appear in the text? Probably not, eh? I like the comments, but I wish I could treat them differently than footnotes. Better than nothing, I guess.
I've been over at FD8 for the last year and didn't know you came out of beta. The program is looking much better and much more stable than when I left it last time. Congrats!

Multicam editing / one angle is black

I'm running FCPX 10.0.6 on a Mac Pro with 2 2.66Ghz and 13 gigs of RAM and OS 10.7.5
Wedding project, 2 cameras.
All clips are visible and work well in the preview window.
I have 3 clips from one camera at about 6 minutes each and another from the main camera at 40 minutes, after I create the multicam clip the multicam widow shows the main camera (40 minutes) totally black in the timeline, I've already deleted it a couple of tiems but problem persists.
Have you seen anything similar?

Just asking because I found frameforge 3D and Antics very complicated to use and love the easiness and intuitiveness of Motion 3. Just hoping Motion 4 will come along with many more 3D attributes.

The comparison could only be made if we used those apps. I've never heard of them but I've done lots of animatics in After Effects for more than ten years. Motion could be used the same way but I presume animatic software has specialized functions to make that specific job easier. Motion certainly won't have any of those.
Heck, lots of filmmakers have used iMovie as a previz tool. All depends on your source material, client's needs, budget, and your propensity/tolerance for workarounds and hacks.
No one knows anything about Apple's future plans for anything. If they do, they can't talk about them. Speculating about Apple's future plans can get your posts pulled so be sure to read your terms of service.
