3 Network PAYG SIM for iPad

When I bought my iPad 3 months ago I got a PAYG SIM card from 3 that gave me a 3GB allowance lasting for 3 months for £20.49 which has suited me just fine as I haven't used up anywhere near 3GB as I tend to use WiFi connections most of the time. Now it has expired I was intending to top up the card with exactly the same allowance, but when I try to do so directly from the iPad the only options I get are Pay Per Day 500MB £2.99, or Pay Per Month @ £10/1GB, £15/3GB or £25/7GB but no option to buy 3GB that lasts up to 3 months as I had to start with. If I go to the main 3 shop on-line I can buy another SIM at the same price I paid initially, which may well be the easiest solution, but it seems a little bizarre that I can't just top up the SIM I have installed. Anyone else noticed this

In case anyone's interested - I called into a local 3 Store to find out how to top up my SIM card to give me another 3GB for 3 months @£20.49 and apparently you can't so had to buy another SIM card - weird!

Since the CDMA protocol does not use a SIM, I'm going with "in order to use a SIM, you must use the GSM protocol".

  • Sim for ipad

On 'compare ipad models' page it shows the various  compatible SIM cards for each model. How do u use a sim with ipad? I can't see anywhere u can insert a sim. Any info greatly appreciated. Apologies in advance if this is a really stupid question but having seen it on the Apple website I'm confused.
    Thanks

You cannot use SIM card on Wi-Fi only iPad. They do not have SIM tray.

  • Which network to chose for iPad?

I want to use iPad for SkyDemon GPS map. Does it matter which network provider iPad I buy? (A/T) (Verizon) (Orange) (o2) ?
I won't really use that network just want the GPS, but if I decide to use it, if I buy the Verizon one does that mean that's the only card I can use and can't use any others?

    This doesn't make sense.
A Network Provider provides Cellular service.
So an iPad with a Network Provider has cellular hardware.
While you do not need an active Cellular service contract to use the GPS, you do need to buy a Cellular capable iPad.

  • Can I use any sim for iPad

I have a contract with 02 but am in India and want to use a local sim. Will it lock my iPad

If it's a cellular model iPad, yes. You can't use a SIM card on a Wi-Fi only iPad.

  • 6GB PAYG SIM Activation

I bought a 6GB 90 day PAYG SIM for a Lenovo tablet. The tablet seems to accept the SIM Ok in the settings but I couldn't find how to activate it on the device as it wouldn't connect to EE, so I activated online using my home PC on broadband. Now the tablet still doesn't connect to anything and my account shows 0.00 credit. What am I doing wrong?

Ok, I think I've got it now. Found I needed to manually enter an APN (from a feedback post on Amazon). Even then it was a real hassle but finally got there after much trial and error.

Those are the instructions for your computer's iTunes (i.e. using the Store menu at the top of your computer's iTunes and selecting 'View My Account' on it). If you are doing it on your iPad then are you following the instructions for iOS devices :
    To unhide your purchases
Depending on the content type, open the App Store, iBooks, or iTunes Store on your device.
Scroll to the bottom of the main page.
If you're not already signed in, tap Sign In.
Tap your Apple ID name, then tap View Account.
Scroll down on the Account pane, and tap Hidden Purchases.
Locate the item you would like to unhide then tap the Unhide button.

  • TS1398 I have been having network problems on my Ipad and I reset all network settings as advised in the article about problems connecting to networks.  Now my Ipad will not allow me to sign onto any network....it will not accept the passwords for any net

My ipad has been a little glitchy for the last couple of weeks....not able to load pages because of DNS lookup failure and really slow loading...some of which has to do with the DSL service I have, but I followed the directions on one of the Apple wi-fi issues pages to reset network all connections..which I did, and now the Ipad cannot connect to WiFi because it will not accept (or cannot resolve..or??) password.  I am sure I am typing the password correctly and have tried it on several routers..and it cannot cannect to any router properly even with the correct password.  My laptop is connected just fine and it accepts the password and I have confirmed the password with the ISP and tried other routers.
So the question is what should I do if I am entering the right password and the Ipad can't sign itself on to the Wifi network?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • I'd like to know how to get the SIM Network Unlock PIN for my DROID2 GLOBAL

I am living in Haiti and I made someone buy a Droid2 Global for me in USA. I have had the phone for 2 months but I never could operate it.  Any time I open it, it requires that I enter a SIM Network Unlock PIN that I have not.
I' d appreciate you help me get the SIM Network Unlock PIN for my Droid2 Global which IMEI is the following: {edited for privacy}.
    Many thanks in advance

If the incorrect PIN code is entered too many times, a PIN Unlock Key must be obtained from Verizon Wireless at 908-559-4899 if you are outside of the United States and 800-922-0204 or *611(send) from your mobile number inside the United States..
The SIM PIN option is only available when the handset is in GSM / UMTS mode. Refer to Network Mode Setting for further assistance.
    Thank you, LatachaM_VZW
Are you talking about the PUK code (when the PIN for the SIM has been wrong too many times)?  The OP is talking about network unlock, and is using a foreign SIM.   Global Services certainly wouldn't have the unlock code for a SIM that isn't theirs.
I have heard that if you do enter the incorrect network unlock code too many times, the phone becomes permanently locked (i..e cannot be unlocked even with a valid unlock code) but not everyone agrees that this is true for all phones.
Jax's post above really says it all, you will need to search the web for a service that will unlock this Motorola phone.  In doing so, you might find a number of threads that say the Global has to be activated in the US before an unlock code will work.  Others were able to unlock without this.

  • I have an ipad that only has wifi and I am unable to connect because all the networks are locked for access.   Is there anything that I can attached to my ipad that will make it possible for me to access the internet

I need help.  Just purchased an ipad with wifi service only.  Is there anything that I can get that will allow me to access the internet.  I keep getting network connections that have a lock which makes it unable to log on.  Picking up numerous with sites with the lock.  Help did I make a mistake in getting this ipad.  If so, can I trade it in for one that is more network friendly.

If you expect to use a WiFi only iPad it needs a wireless network. It is customary to have your own versus using someone else's.
Nothing is more network friendly than an iPad.
You couldn't possibly have expected to sponge off a service someone else is paying for?

  • Sim card too big for ipad air?

i have taken delivery today of a new ipad air but even the mini simcard seems too big for the holder, is it safe to still put it in?

No. The iPad Air uses a Nano Sim. A Mini sim will not fit in the tray.
You need to talk to your Cellular carrier and have them give you a nano sim for the new iPad.

  • Need for iPad/PC/Mac networking at hospitals-

    Need for networking at hospitals…
Our doctor (plus an IT guy for the hospital) is the go-to guy for the MDs that use Island hospital and want to review test results and documentation on each patient on the network. All imaging systems are now digital and are available minutes after testing is completed. Each nurse station documents patient status every hour.
They currently can review any document on a PC networked with hospital; however, they cannot access the network on their iPads. Turns out most of the doctors have Mac iPads and they enjoy the smallness compared to carrying a laptop, and would love to use the iPad (for record access) when going to the patients room.
He said that the hospital will convert to a more “Mac Friendly” system this year, however I really don’t think it will solve their issues.  (see below).
Our Doctor said that they wanted a better way to review records but the iOS in the iPad does not allow direct access/networking. Here is what I found out for him and would appreciate any ideas to improve on the approach.
My only known share/link between iPad, PC and/or Mac desktop
To Share Word, PDF, tiff, and jpg files, I use Drop Box application for iPad, PC and Mac. I Install Drop Box on each device via opening a free account with “Drop Box.” An email address and a pass-word is used for each device. ((note: the email must be verified when prompted after setting up the email account.))
Use wireless links. Any file to be accessed from an iPad must be placed (drag and drop) into Drop Box on one of the “linked” computers.
Each device sets up a Share/Link to other computer email addresses but email is not the method of sharing it just forms the basis for ID. I had no trouble setting up an iPad 2, PC-windows 7, and two Macs with OS 10.6.8.
Within Drop Box, you can Set up sub-folders to share documents and other computers and iPads will only see the subfolder they want to access. Any time you drag and drop a file in the folder it immediately shows up within seconds in all computers with the sub-folder name. If it is deleted from a folder on any device it is automatically deleted from all computers with that shared sub-folder name, and a linked email address
HELPFUL APPS ON IPAD if PDF files and Word files are used.
PDF2 Office, Bookshelf, Dropbox, iCloud mail, Pages… All but Bookshelf allows quick transfer to Dropbox; however if more interested in reading a document on a PC, this doesn’t really help. Real benefit of the this transfer is to share iPad info with PC or Mac.

I suspect a lot of hospitals are doing this.
Could you give a more detail description of how things work on a PC Laptop?
Is the data on a network share?
How does the data get to the PC?
How is the data accessed on the PC?
Is there an all in one program running on the pc to access the data?
Done in a web browser?  IE?
Windows File server access.  Get permission to check out what servers are around. See what the data looks like.
