it's expected you need 350W and above definitely
I'm thinking (and actually suggesting) 500W and above.

I don't think they will go for BTX regardless
Actually they don't have much of a say since, unlike Intel, they don't make boards.  If the board manufactures switch over to BTX then they will want to phase out of ATX boards for all platforms for reasons of economy. Similary, the case manufacturers won't want to make two series of cases for each type, and the retailers won't want to stock both.
[Paranoid On] I think it's a marketing conspiracy. There is no reason they can't mirror the full size BTX board so it will fit in an ATX Tower. [/Paranoid Off]

  • My New MSI Mobo Will Not Speak Up!

I just replaced the motherboard in my computer with a new MSI P4M900M2-L motherboard (VIA Chipset). I did a "repair" install of Windows, re-activated it, and everything in the system is now working fine except...the integrated sound function on the mobo does not work. I've downloaded and successfully installed all recommended drivers from MSI website using "Live Update Online" feature. Also downloaded and ran MSI InfoView XP utility. All looks good on this utility except the SOUND tab which says "Sound Card Not Detected!". The Windows Device Manager shows an "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" but its properties sheet says "No Drivers are installed for this device". If you click on the "Update Driver..." button on the Properties "Driver" tab, nothing at all happens. All the Driver info on this tab shows either "Not Available" or "Unknown".
I connected the motherboard on a non-conducting surface outside the case. Same result; MSI InfoView utility reports "Sound Card Not Detected". I have also verified that the MB mounting holes line up correctly with the case mounting standoffs - no shorts.
On advice from MSI support, I RMA returned the board to the vendor and they sent me a new one - same model, P4M900M2. I installed the new one and...same problem! Everything else works perfectly. I went through the process again of updating drivers using MSI's Live Update Online. It scanned my system and said all drivers were up-to-date. I loaded the CD-ROM that came with the mobo and clicked on the RealTek Driver button, but nothing at all happened. I browsed the CD and in the "Sound" folder found two setups - one for VIA HD and one for RealTek. Tried running the RealTek setup; it went partway through and then said "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure!!". (Thanks for all the useful info!) Then tried the VIA HD setup. It ran a bit & then said "ERROR - We can't find HD audio device". So nothing worked.
It seems quite unlikely that I received two defective motherboards in a row, each with the exact same defect !!?? Seems like there must be some driver or setting or jumper or something that's preventing the sound function from being recognized. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Joy! My problem is solved. I received the following from MSI Technical Support (it took them two tries, unfortunately; first they concluded that the motherboard was bad and told me to RMA it, which I did; only to have exact same problem with 2nd board.) Anyway, this solution worked like a charm. The key, apparently, is deleting that Microsoft UAA HD Audio driver under System Devices.
Hope this info may help some other poor soul out there fighting the same problem.
Thanks to Bosskiller and Del UK for all the suggestions.
    Here's what tech support sent:
Be sure the Microsoft HD UAA patch has been applied: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111/en-us ** The Microsoft HD UAA device drivers interfere with the Realtek drivers and prevent them from loading. The cure is to 1) Open the control panel and launch System 2) Click on the Hardware tab and then launch the Device manager. 3) Go to the bottom and click on System Devices 4) Look for Microsoft UAA HD Audio driver. 5) Right mouse click on it and first disable the driver, and then unload it. 6) Reboot the machine. 7) There should be no problem now with loading the HD audio drivers. Please check and be sure the bios setup has the on board audio setting been set to enable or Auto. Please have all on board audio header removed from any case front audio or other adapter connections and only connect the speaker/headset to the rear audio output port (green) and retest. Please test out the mb and components outside the case with mb box to support the board. This can prevent any short or grounding problem to the mb which can cause audio to stop working as well.

  • Is new MSI K9A2 Platinum DOA?

Bought a new MSI K9A2 Platinum Version 1 MOBO off eBay, installed with spacers between board and case and installed my current hardware. Power came on but, pc would not post. Monitor kept showing no signal, power and HD LED came on for 1 to 2 seconds and Green and White LEDs on MB came on and stayed on. So I cleared CMOS, took out one video card and NIC so was pretty much down to bare minimum, one video card, one stick ram, CPU, HD (SATA) and MOBO but, still suffered same issue. Is MOBO DOA?
    Existing Hardware from my PC:
Antec Neopower 500 (500 watts) power supply
    AMD Athlon X2 6000+ (3.02 GHz) (Windsor, 90nm, AM2 (940))
Cooler Master Aquagate Viva CPU Liquid Cooling System
    2 x 1 GB RAM Mushkin: (XP2-8500, Part Number: 996535)
    1066MHz Latency: 5-5-4-12 Parity: Unbuffered
    Voltage: 2.2-2.35V Pins: 240
    Module: 128Mx64 Chip: 64x8
2 X ATI Radeon 1950 GT running in Crossfire mode (installed both cards in dark blue ports)
    Fujitsu 300 GB HD SATA
    Sony DVD RW
    Bigfoot NIC model: Killer M1
ATX Case with 4 X 90 MM Case fans
Initially thought could be the video cards but, owner's guide and MSI Tech Support state that K9A2 can support up to 16X, so I assume that also means it support PCIe 1.0 as well as PCIe 2.0.
Have read on MSI forum that power could be the issue but, tend to believe if I take it down to bare minimum (CPU, CPU Cooler, 1 Stick of Ram, 1 Video Card, HD (SATA), 2 X 90mm case fans and MOBO)  that it should have booted up at the point.
Link to new board, MSI K9A2 Platinum, specs: http://us.msi.com/product/p_spec.asp...tinum&class=mb

    Any help or ideas?
    Thanks in advance

    Boombox,
Good morning and thanks for putting my concerns to rest, like I said before, I have to upgrade a part at time.  Next piece is AMD Phenom II X4 955 (hopefully gets here NLT Tuesday) with RAM I purchased last month and did not want to fry them first time I boot up the system.   Plus I am on Day 2 since switch out of my K9A and still no issues
Also I must weigh in on MSI's RMA process, overall the process is pretty smooth, my issue is with the replacement MOBO.  Guess after they tested my old MOBO (NEW OUT OF THE BOX), they had to replace it.  Replacement board was USED (assuming until failure by previous owner) and had some "Cosmetic issues", 1. Copper Cooling tube is slightly crushed not sure what that does to air flow and 2.  Half of the IDE pins were bent, I can't see thing in front of me, so I had to take a digital picture of IDE plug and blow up so I could see which way to bend them back.  Figure there would be some sort of QC before return but, guess not......
Assuming since it all relates to this post, once I install CPU and RAM will let those that have taken time out of their day to help me, know what my latest status is.  Again Thanks to all of you, hopefully I can pay back your help in the future.

  • Help: new MSI 970a-g46 not booting.

    hello.
i searched this forum before posting but couldn't find a solution that worked, so i thought i'd post my issue and see if y'all could help. basically, after installing the mobo and all the parts, powering on the machine does nothing but spin the fans and illuminate phase 1 CPU light for a split second. then nothing. no beeps, no further activity.
    i just purchased brand new:
    MSI 970A-G46
    AMD FX 8-Core
    Ballistix 4GB DDR3 PC3-12800 (1 stick)
    Diablotek EVO ATX midtower.
and i'm using these my old parts:
    Themaltake Purepower 500 ATX 12V 2.0
Gigabyte G Force 8 Series (GV-NX86S256H) graphics card
an IDE PCI card (where my 160gb maxtor with the OS connects)
two SATA drives seagate 500GB and a WD 2TB
up untill i shut down my old system to build this one, everything was working fine.
after reading the forum, i've tried moving my RAM from slot 2 to each other slot. trying to boot each time had same result.
i tried to reseat the CPU chip, but went no further than taking the fan off and making sure the CPU pins were not visible. then pushed down on the fan with some force while i put it back. trying to boot had the same result.
i've tried to clear the CMOS, but honestly not sure if i did it right. moved the jumper over, then waited a bit and moved it back. tried booting after that, same result.
i'm hoping someone has a quick fix that might keep me from pulling the mobo back out and starting again.
(side question: if i do have to start again, do i need more heatsync themal goo or will the stuff already on the CPU still work since it's never turned on?)
thanks in advance for any help. if i can provide more info on my setup, please let me know.
this is my first build all on  my own and it's having predictable results.

i searched and found i made a real rookie mistake. :(

    2. Did you plug in the 4/8-pin CPU power connector located near the CPU socket? If the motherboard has 8 pins and your PSU only has 4 pins, you can use the 4-pin connector. The 4-pin connector USUALLY goes on the 4 pins located closest to the CPU. If the motherboard has an 8-pin connector with a cover over 4 pins, you can remove the cover and use an 8-pin plug if your power supply has one. This power connector provides power to the CPU. Your system has no chance of posting without this connector plugged in! Check your motherboard owners manual for more information about the CPU power connector. The CPU power connector is usually referred to as the "12v ATX" connector in the owners manual. This is easily the most common new-builder mistake.

wow. plugged in the 4 pin cpu power and it booted into bios. so thanks for the help and for listening.

  • Problem with new MSI GTX660Ti N660TI-PE-2GD5/OC

Hi , I've just bought a new MSI GTX660Ti GPU from amazon , i was previously running the on board HD4000 graphics from the Intel I7 3770K CPU.
When i plug the new GPU in and reboot - i get the 'GIGABYTE' splash screen on my monitor , and it just hangs there -I am unable to enter any of the options and pressing DEL , F8 , F12 etc gives no response.
I've installed all the drivers , and i simply switch off the PC , installed the graphics card , take the DVI cable out of the mobo socket and plug it into the GPU socket then switch on.
The bios beeps once , the display remains frozen on the splash screen for about 3 minutes , then another single beep from the bios and   the display remains frozen on the splash screen for another4 or 5 minutes , then eventually the screen goes black , with just a single flashing underscore. No keyboard inputs make any difference.
re-booting just gives the same result.
BIOS settings are all at default  Including >  Init Display First - Auto , Internal Graphics - Auto
So , is there something that i'm doing wrong or is the new graphics card DOA ?
    Please help
    Many thanks

  • New FX5900XT in Asus A7N8X mobo won't boot.

Got a new MSI FX5900XT card yesterday, popped it into my PC this morning and it won't boot or even post at all.  No error beeps, nothing on the screen.  The monitor does "wake up," so it's sensing a signal of some kind, apparently.  I've seated and re-seated the card, booted repeatedly, and made sure the 12v power connector is securely plugged in.  I've been building my own PCs for about 12 years, and I've never had a video card just...do nothing.  My relevant system specs are:
    Asus A7N8X (non-Deluxe) mobo rev 1.04 w/latest v1007 BIOS
AMD Athlon XP2700+ CPU (not overclocked)
    Corsair XMS PC2700C2 333Mhz RAM (1 stick, 512 megs)
    eVGA GeForce4 Ti4200 128-meg video card (4x AGP version)

    Panasonic LF-D321 DVD burner
    LiteOn LTR-32123S CD burner
    nVidia nForce audio (onboard mobo)
    ViewSonic G790 monitor
WinXP Home w/SP1 and all updates

    +12v @ 20a
    -5v @ 2a
    -12v @ 1a
    +5Vsb @ 2.2a
I've Googled the Web and searched here and haven't found a solution, though I did see messages from a couple of other users with similar problems.  The Ti4200 card works fine, and I've tried the FX5900XT card in another computer with the same results.  Any suggestions, other than the obvious (DOA & RMA)?
    Thanks,

Probably, but it's a 2nd PC with the same type motherboard, an Asus A7N8X.  I was hoping someone with this same mobo could tell me that his card worked with that setup.  I have a 3rd computer in the closet with an ECS K7S5A mobo, but I'm not inclined to drag it out.  In any case, I've already gotten an RMA from New Egg, and I'm sending the card back tomorrow.  It's not a piston engine, after all; it's only got one moving part, and the fan is spinning away just fine, and I've pretty much exhausted all the trouble-shooting possibilities, so the card must just be defective somehow.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • How to get and install the new MSI Bluetooth Software Package 1.4.3.3.

How to get and install the new MSI Bluetooth Software Package 1.4.3.3.
This little FAQ will only cover the new version of MSI Bluetooth Software Package.
First thing too do is unistall any older version of the MSI Bluetooth Software.
Do this through the Add/Remove program applet in your control panel.
There seams too be only through Live update you could get the new version of MSI Bluetooth Software Package.
If you can't see any enter for MSI Bluetooth Software in the Live driver section of Live update then you have too enter the following too your registry.
Create following code in Notepad and save it as MSILD.reg, then run the file.
    ;-->Code start
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MSI\Drivers\MSI Bluetooth Software]
    "DrvSetup"="1"
    "Version"="1.4.2.10"
    ;-->Code end
Rerun the Live update and hopefully you will now see a entry for MSI Bluetooth Software in Live driver section.
Install the new version of MSI Bluetooth Software and reboot your computer. Even if the setup program doesnt told you too doit.
After rebooting the computer you will see the Bluetooth icon in the taskbar. If it's Red then try too start the Bluetooth services by right click on the try icon and the only alternetiv there is.
If the Bluetooth services is asking for a valid licens.dat then you should do the following.
Surf to Jon's Bluetooth guide http://www.jonsguides.com./bluetooth/prepare.html and download the patcher from the link there.
Unzip the the patcher and then run the BTWPatcher.exe program.
Now the Bluetooth services will start and you will bee able too configure your own settings for the Bluetooth services.
If nothing of this work you could try the complete Bluetooth solution at Jon's gudie and install the IBM version of the same program. I havent test this solution and will not do soo.

I have the MS-6968 device and i want to use driver 1.4.x or 3.0.x. I found the driver 1.4.2.10 but i cannot find any WIDCOMMSecurity code.
So, can anyone give me a link for BTWPatcher.exe???
It cannot be found here (Jon's Bluetooth ) anymore.
    Thanks

  • Problem with new MSI GeForce FX 5900

Just bought a new MSI GeForce FX 590 TD-128.
I removed previous drivers and video card, installed the new video card and attached the power cable, and booted my machine.
When I boot the machine I get no picture....just a blinking cursor in the top left hand side of the screen.  I thought maybe it was a power supply issue (350W PSW), so I tried installing the video card in another machine with a 400W PSW.   I get the same darn blinking cursor    X(
Anyone have any ideas what causes this?  Do I have a defective card?

Are both those boards AGP 3.0 ??
I have a Soyo Dragon K7V Dragon+ and a ECS K7S5A.  The website for the Soyo board is:
    http://www.soyo.com.tw/products/proddesc.php?id=37
It mentions a Universal AGP Pro Slot and support for AGP 1X/2X/4X...but no mention of AGP 3.0.
    The ECS board is at:
    http://www.ecs.com.tw/products/pd_spec.asp?product_id=192
and only mentions AGP 4X support.
Does the FX 5900 only work on the newer motherboards maybe?
    Quote
If it doesn't work on any board then it might be bad, but 350w and 400w don't mean much so it's also possible you have a power problem.
Both power supplies are made by Antec.  Seems unlikely that neither machine would even boot...but I've seen stranger things

  • HELP ! System freezes now with new MSI GeForce 6600GT AGP

Any/All help is greatly appreciated... this is driving me crazy.
Just installed a new MSI 6600GT AGP card.  Windows/Apps work fine.. but system keeps freezing (disabling keyboard as well) when running certain games (3D?) like Medal of Honor, Prince of Perisa, SplinterCell.  Also, freezes on 3DMark01SE benchmark software.  What strange is 3DMark2K5 ran fine.. and returned a respectable score (3078).   I've tried unistalling/re-installing latest MSI drivers (71.22), Nvidia's 66.93, and removing nVidia's GART drivers.  I've also disconnected other hardware to allieviate PSU constraints.  I've uninstalled/re-installed 6600GT card and molex power connector on card.  My system specs are below:
    Motherboard = ASUS Focus A7N8X-LA, BIOS=American Megatrend 3.07, Chipset = nVidia nForce2
    MSI GeForce 6600GT 128 AGP
    1Gb Ram

    ASUS E616P1  DVD-ROM
    RICOH  MP5240A  DVD+RW
Enermax EG375P-VE SFMA PSU  (has separate 12V rails)
Any suggestions as to what else to try?  Getting ready to RMA this card.

    I just got a K8 series MB , and your A6600GT 128MB VGA , every time when I quit the 3D games ,
the system gave me a blue screen and then restart the system. I already update the VGA driver and MB
driver but no luck , what can I do?
    Answer
If your system are WinXP + SP2 , We suggest you to disable DEP function.
Please follow below steps to disable the DEP. (See below picture)
    1. First , Select “Advanced” under “System Properties”
    2. Choose “Settings” under “Startup and Recovery”
    3. Click “ Edit “ , then you can edit “boot.ini” file.
    4. Change “/NoExecute=OptIn” as “/execute” (See below red square in step4)
    5. Then save the boot.ini file and restart the system.
    6. After rebooting , the DEP function will be disable.

  • MSI update doesnt recognize new MSI x800 XT PE card

Somethin kinda strange last night... I am one of the VERY few proud owners of the new MSI x800 XT PE video cards.  Along with everything else is the normal autoupdate software for keeping everything up to date.
I already have is as I am running the MSI Neo 2 motherboard (see sig.).
The strange thing though is that it didnt recognize the card at all!  It came back with an error when I had it look for video card updates that the card wasnt recognized or supported.

Nope.. no problems.  8)  Just thought it interesting... I also get some really strange behavior out of the 4.9 beta drivers, but I read what I see is the same as almost everyone with the XT card regardless of branding.  So it must just be a driver bug.
The cool thing is my 3Dmark score.. I was 6748 previously... just tested at 12,318!

  • New MSI GS70 2QE-066US STEALTH PRO BSOD

I am getting random bsod page fault in nonpaged area on my brand new MSI GS70 2QE-066US STEALTH PRO.  It seems to happen once a day. I am not sure what is going on really i updated the killer network drivers from their website as there was newer ones out than what were on this notebook. I only did that a hour ago so i don't know if it fixed anything or not. I herd the killer driver can cause bsod so i thought i would try.  Other forums lead me to believe it is a ram issue.  I have only install some steam games wow and things like chrome on this notebook so far. I am trying to figure out if it is a hardware or software issue as i just got the notebook and would like to not have to send it in so i can use it.
Thanks in advance for your help.

[Athlon64] AGP problem with my new MSI K8N NEO4-F

Yes I managed exactly that. I've been out of the computer building business for a while so I didn't know the graphics ports had changed.
I will invest in a graphic card as well, thanks for putting me on track
(The manual sais something about the port supporting 8x agp though? )
