  • 2x 10g Application Server on 2-node RAC (Linux) - dual solution

I am looking to have a chat about setting up a 10g Apps Server talking to RAC.
Its a proof of concept for us right now - but likely to go further.
    Essentially 2 stages
    1) 2 Apps Servers talking to RAC (non clustered - single point of failure at Webcache load balancer as well as at ID Mangament layer)
    2) Full cluster (either active active or active passive) using Oracle Clusterware along the full APP stack and IDM talking to RAC.
Want to discuss options/best practice etc

    Hello All,
My target is to achieve failover for oracle forms based application. Now this is what i have currently in my setup :
    1) 2 nodes with win2003 r2 (32 - bit)
    2) Oracle RAC DB 10.2.0.5.0
    3) Oracle Application Server IAS 10.1.2.3.0 on each node
I have included TNS entries for TAF under Oracle Infrastructure home of IAS and also under Oracle MiddleTier home of IAS.
After completing all the setup when i test failover for the clients like TOAD, SQL for the RAC DB it is absolutely fine. Unfortunately when i test my forms application for failover by switching off the DB to which forms client is connected it simply errors out "UNHANDLED EXCEPTION" and the session closes abruptly. Are there any specific settings i have to make in order to ensure forms client failsover to the next running node rather than getting disconnected with loss of transactions.\
I also look forward to get an input with respect to failing over Application Server 10g to the next node.
    Thank you.

  • EM problem on 2 Node RAC

    Hi Guys,
We have 2 node RAC running on Windows 2008 plateform. All is fine if we login to sqlplus but we having issues with EM since the day we installed RAC. 2 days before we started having invalid username/password error on EM. I tried to recreate the repository on our primary node using the command mentioned below:
emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
but when we it goes to stage ' Drop repository (It may take a while) ' I left is running all night but it appears the same in the morning. Also it doesn't let anyone connect to RAC during the time as well.
I have been pulling my hairs as I have tried recreating repository on both nodes but it appears be the same.
Any suggessions/solution would be much appreciated.

    hi,
Can you substitute the respective IP addresses into the connection string and see if that helps.
    regards
    Alan

One of our vendors is hosting our oracle enviroment and we are planning to bring in the datacenter in house and manage it ourselves.
Current they have a two node RACon windows
The new enviroment we are building here , we want to get rid of RAC and bring it back to a single instance environment.
    How do i approach this?
    1. My first option was to create a new database server and do the export dp from one of the node and import to the new single instance enviroment.
My conncern is can you do export from RAC database and import it to a non RAC enviroment?
    2. My second option is to delete one node on the two node RAC and then do export dump or cold backup and copy the database files and necessary config files.
let me know how i can approach this.....

Okay guys after digging aroung i found the following approach.....
Cloning Oracle 10gR2 from RAC Environment to Single Instance Environment will raise the following error
ORA-29702: Error occurred in Cluster Group Service Operation.
The new instance is looking for CRS on new single instance non RAC environment.
For UNIX platform follow the following steps:
    - Shutdown the instance which is cloned to non RAC.
    - Shutdown all the listeners.
    - Relink Oracle executable with rac_off option.
    $ make -f ins_rdbms.mk rac_off
    $ make -f ins_rdbms.mk ioracle
    - Remove all the parameters from init.ora which points to second instance
and it is on other node.
    - Remove cluster_database parameter
    - Remove undo_tablespace parameter which points to second instance
For Windows Platform follow the following steps:
    - Shutdown the instance which is cloned to non RAC.
    - Shutdown all the listeners.
    - Rename following file in %ORACLE_HOME%/bin directory: orarac10.dll to orarac10.dll.bak
Give me your thoughts, there is nothing on Metalink....

  • GLOBAL_NAMES setting in 4 nodes RAC

    Hi Experts,
I have a 4 nodes RAC with 10.2.0.4 database at red hat 5.1
I find that global_name is nor enforced as
    NAME VALUE
    global_names FALSE
For stream, I need to change to true.
I want to know which default value for global_name at RAC.
If I change to TRUE and enforce global_nmae. does this changes affects RAC system or some RAC function?
    Thanks for help!
    Jim

    Hello Jim,
Global_Name will not effect anything at the RAC level. This only effects db link name. you have to have use dbname as DB link.
As per best practices document and other streams documentation .. Global_Name should be true. I have tested this. i have made this parameter false however i have created db link used by streams is same as database name which satisfies mandate requirement for streams. because i had to create one more database link in another schema in same database and this was only option.
So in a nutshell.. Global_names enforces dblink name same as dbname. you have a workaround.
Feel free to give it a go.
    Thanks
    Prashant

  • Automatic restart of services on a 1 node rac cluster with Clusterware

How do we enable a service to automaticly start-up when the db starts up?
    Thanks,
    Dave

srvctl enable service -d DBThanks for your reply M. Nauman. I researched that command and found we do have it enabled and that it only works if the database instance was previously taken down. Since the database does not go down on an Archiver Hung error as we are using FRA with an alt location, this never kicks in and brings up the service. What we are looking for something that will trigger off of when the archive logs error and switch from FRA(Flash Recovery Area) to our Alternate disk location. Or more presicely, when it goes back to a Valid status(on the FRA - after we've run an archive log backup to clear it).
I found out from our 2 senior dba's that our other 2 node rac environment does not suffer from this problem, only the newly created 1 node rac cluster environment. The problem is we don't know what that is(a parameter on the db or cluster or what) and how do we set it?
    Anyone know?
    Thanks,
    Gib

  • Rolling upgrade in MAA database with 2 node RAC on each site

    All,
I have 2 node rac on SITE A, and it has Physical Standby database on SITE B it also 2 node RAC. Currently it is on 10.2.0.4 on AIX systems. We have mission crictical application runing and we can't aford the downtime of 5 to 6 hr to upgrade our CRS,ASM,DB oracle homes to 11G or even 10.2.0.5. I read rolling upgrade document on metalink and also documnet as well, and come up with following sequence.
SITE A==Primary Site, SITE B == Standby database
    1) Shutdown DB on SITE B
    2) Take the OS Level Backup of Binaries only on SITE B (Both node), I think this is just a Precautionary Measure
    3) Start the DB on SITE B Still Physical Standby database let it synch with primary Site SITE A
    4) Convert SITE B to Logical standby database
    5) let it run for some time and be the two site SYNCH
    6) now stop archivelog shipping to STANDBY SITE SITE B
    7) Shutdown SITE B and apply the patch/upgrade binaries (CRS/ASM/DB)
    8) Start and upgrade the DB on SITE B
    9) Start the logical standby apply (SQL APPLY) and let it catch up with SITE A
    10) Now Switchover to logical standby database on SITE B and ask application to connect to SITE B
    11) Make sure the archivelogs are moving from SITE B to SITE A and SQL Apply is runing.
    12) Now Stop archive log flow from SITE B to SITE A
    13) Stop the database/ASM/CRS on SITE A
    14) upgrade the SITE A binaries (CRS/ASM/DB)
    15) Start and upgrade the DB on SITE A
    16) Start the logical standby apply (SQL APPLY) and let it catch up with SITE B
    17) Now Switchover Back to SITE A and let the application connect to SITE A
At this point by SITE B is a Logical Standby database
I think these summaries the steps involved in rolling upgrade, but I can't understand how I can go back to my MAA with physical standby database mode?
Does anyone has done this? Can anyone give me some tips or comments on my steps??
Help me if you can... thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Is it you want to know the OS/Kernel side setting? You must comply with the following kernel requirements to install the clusterware.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b28259/pre_hpux.htm#BABJHCJI
    Thanks.

  • 2 Node RAC abnormal behaviour

    Platform: "HP-UX 11.23 64-bit"
    Database: "10.2.0.4 64-bit"
    RAC: 2 Node RAC setup
Our RAC setup has been properly done and RAC is working fine with load balancing i.e clients are getting connection on both instances. BUT the issue I am facing with my RAC setup is High Availability testing. When I send reboot signal to "Node-2" and the "Node-1" is up what I observe and receive complain from clients that they have lost connection with database ALSO no new connections are being allowed. When I see the alert log of "Node-1" I see the following abnormal messages reported in it:

    Regards,

if above were really 100% correct, you would not be here posting about errors!Definitely but these situations could become the cause for new BUGS, isn't it?
I don't know what is real & what is unnecessary obfuscation. What part of the thread you didn't understand.
It is not a good idea to have subtraction sign/dash character as part of object/host name; i.e. "Node-1"."Node-1" is not the hostname it is just to make clear understanding. the hostname is "sdupn101" for node-1 and "sdupn102" for node-2.
ORA-00600/ORA-07445/ORA-03113 = Oracle bug => search on Metalink and/or call Oracle supportNewbie is my status on this forum but I have little bit ethics of using forums and suppot blogs. I searched but unfortunately didn't find any matching solution.
Anyway will update you once find any solution so that you can assist someone else in future.

  • RAC Installation (Valid IP Error)

    Hello Guys,
I am installing 2 nodes RAC 10g R2 on windows XP platform.
Each node contains 2 network cards for private, public and virtual IPs.
Following is the seeting of TCP/IP on each node.
    Node 1
    Netwrok Card 1
    Public IP : 192.168.0.140
    Virtual IP : 192.168.0.141
Entry of these IPs exist in DNS
    Network Card 2
Private IP : 10.0.0.1 - Entry exist in host file with the computer name
    Node 2
    Netwrok Card 1
    Public IP : 192.168.0.142
    Virtual IP : 192.168.0.143
Entry of these IPs exist in DNS
    Network Card 2
Private IP : 10.0.0.2 - - Entry exist in host file with the computer name
Now during installtion where we have to configure IPs of node its says:
"The following Public IP do not resolve to a valid hostname. Enter Valid IP that maps hostname to continue"
How to rectify this error to continue....
    Please Help.
