"3 of 5 computers authorized" Argh! No, there isn't!

Problem with my iTunes. It says I have 3 of 5 computers authorized which is NOT right. I know why, though. I've had 2 hard drives fail on this computer. Therefore, I had NO warning or chance to deactivate the computer before the hard drive failing. When my computer failed each time, iTunes treated the computer as new due to the new hard drive. Is there any way to have it not say this? I am actually going to have to activate another computer, leaving me supposedly only 1 more. What should I do?

If your system crashes or you reinstall your operating system without deauthorising iTunes first, even a single computer can use up your limit of 5 authorisations. However when you've reached your limit of 5 you have the option once a year to deauthorise them all in one go and start over again: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

Did you recently deauthorize a bunch of computers?  You can only deauthorize all once  year.

I had a problem with a 5.0.3 project that would cause 5.0.4 to crash. Apple asked for a copy of the project and later told me it was because there were some empty text layers. Apple is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.
In my case I still had 5.0.3 on another Mac and could clean up the project. If empty text layers might be the problem, do you know someone with an earlier version who could open it and remove the empty layers? I'd be willing to give it a try if you'd want to send me the project.

  • HT1420 itunes notified me that there were 5 computers authorized and i could not add another without unauthorizing an existing one. i did so and it shows the four remaining but when i go to authorize my new computer it keeps saying i still have 5. how do

I recently purchased an imac. the itunes store notified me there were already 5 computers authorized. i de authorized 1 computer in the mange my account window. it shows 4 computers now authorized but when i try to authorize new computer it says i have 5 computers authorized. will it update? what is wrong?

That should work but it might take awhile for the data to sync. If you're okay with this, what I would do is to go to the iTunes Store and de-authorise all. Then re-authorise the ones you want to. This method has less errors since the command it to erase all registration. If you want to do that, sign in to your account in the iTunes Store. There is a line item that de-authorise all after you signed in.

  • I have itunes on one computer. my account says that I have 2 computers authorized. I want to have itunes on both users accounts on my computer. how do I do this? thanks for any help!

I have itunes on my computer in my main user account. I want ot have the same itunes on the other user account on my computer - under the apple account info- it says that I already have 2 computers authorized - how do I find out which 2 they are talking about?  the only button nearlby is one that says to 'deauthorize all' etc.... thanks,. I have a pc.

You can only deauthorize all your itunes computers once a year, so I would avoid clicking that at the moment.  Log onto the 2nd user, and open itunes.  Go to Store> Authorize This computer.
As an alternative, you could point the 2nd user itunes library to the primary itunes folder.  So both users would use the same itunes folder.  You can do this by holding shift, clicking itunes icon.  There should be an option to browse for an existing library.  Locate the main computers itunes folder. (Most likely under: C:\Users\*Account name*\Music where *Account name* would be your main user accounts name.
    Good luck!

My laptop crashed completely and I need to authorize a new laptop to enable it sync with itunes. I have 5 computers authorized so I am unable to add another one so I need to unauthorize the bad laptop that is no longer working. How do I authorize new Laptop?

You can only deauthorize everything to do that. Click on Account under Quick Links. You can deauthorize all five there. But you can only do this once a year.

  • HT1420 where is the list of computers authorized?

Where can I find the list of computers authorized for home sharing?

There is no such list. If you need to you can deauthorize all then reauthorize only the computers in your possession.

Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • I Have 4 Computers Authorized, And....

This may not be the right forum for this, but I noticed I have 4 computers authorized in my account. Well, I've only ever used one computer at a time, so these are old computers that are long gone, sold to other people, formatted for new owners, some mac, some PCs.
Is there any way to get my iTunes account back to one computer authorized?
    thanks

  • How do you find a list of computers authorized on your account?

How do you find a list of computers authorized on your account?  Also if the computers are no longer available how can you de-authorize them?

"How do you find a list of computers authorized on your account? "
    There is no list.
"  Also if the computers are no longer available how can you de-authorize them?"
You cannot, nor do you need to, until you reach the limit of 5.  At that point you can deauthorize all, then authorize the active computers.

  • 5 computers authorized

i have 5 computers authorized for my iTunes, but i dont actually remember what three of them were.
is there any way to deauthorize a computer, without actually being at that computer?

Under normal circumstances you can't deauthorise a computer you haven't access to. However, if you have reached the limit of 5 authorisations, you have the option once a year to deauthorise them all in one go: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation
    Quote:
"If you find you have reached 5 authorizations due to system upgrades, you can reset your authorization count by clicking Deauthorize All in the Account Information screen. Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than 5 authorized computers or if you have used this option within the last 12 months"

  • So apprently I have 4 computers authorized....

So Apparently I have 4 computers authorized.. what computers.. how does one KNOW what computers are authorized?? Once upon a time, I remember seeing in the account info this information.. where did it go? Can it be retrieved without deauthorizing all computers?

Apple keeps changing the iTunes Store account information displayed, but as of the time I'm posting this it includes two things relevant to your question:
In the Apple ID Summary section there is a "Computer Authorizations" line that shows how many computers are authorized, including a "Deautheraize all" button.
In the "iTunes in the Cloud" section the "Manage Devices" line again shows how many devices are authorized, and includes a link that takes you to a page where you can deauthorize specific computers.
It isn't clear whether both sections deal with the same authorization, or whether there is now one set of authorizations for playing content asnd another for downloading purchases. I suspect the latter, in preparation for iCloud, but I suspect the latter.
If all else fails, you casn deauthorize all computers visa your iTunes Store account information screen, then reauthorize each computer you want to be authorized from within iTunes on those computers.
It used to be that you had to call Apple to deauthorize all computers, and could do that only once per year. This new system looks like a definite improvement.

  • De-authorizing itunes? Several of my authorized pc's have died, and have no way to deauthorize iTunes on them. Now I am unable to synch purchases on my Iphone to new computer with iTunes because I already have 5 computers authorized. What can be done?

Several of my authorized pc laptops and desktops have completely died over the years, and have no way to deauthorize iTunes on them. Now I am unable to synch purchases on my Iphone to new computer with iTunes because I already have 5 computers authorized. What can be done?

Deauthorise all to reset to zero, then authorize again.
    Following quote from Apple Support:
If you need to authorize your new computer and are unable due to already having five authorized computers, you can deauthorize all computers by doing the following:
Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).
