3 Phones on current family plan - Can i Switch a phone(#) without penatly?

Here is the situation:
My girlfriend pays for the Family Plan and has 3 phones on it (hers, her mom's, and her EX-boyfriend).
I have an individual account which I am currently eligible to update my phone (which i wanted the Droid X), BUT my contract ends in MAY I believe.
Her ex-boyfriend refuses to give the phone back as well as refuses to pay his part of the bill (it being in my gf's name, she is kind of stuck paying his part).  So, my question is:  What is the most economical way for her to deal with it???
I believe she still has quite awhile until the contract ends, so it's NOT worth her paying the bill each month, BUT she also does not want to cancel his phone because of the early termination fee.
Are there any ways for her to get out of this WITHOUT a fee (keeping her other 2 phones on, but getting rid of HIS)?
MY idea was:   taking his phone (and changing the number figuring that way the fee would probably much less - just the cost of a number change, BUT he is not giving the phone back).....
Is there any way Verizon would cancel his phone/# and add mine (guessing i'd have to wait until MAY   ), and not add a fee since it would still be 3 phones?
Any other ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!

Your GF AGREED to pay her ex's phone bill for two years. She is stuck with it.Changing numbers or replacing with your phone will not eliminate the responsibilty she agreed to.
Some ideas, her and him could do an assumption of liability if he is willing... I suspect he wont.
What I am going to suggest MAY force him to take the phone onto his own contract..... Suspend the line. She can choose to continue to pay or not. Without paying she can go three months and the contract is extended three months. Bit if he wants his number bad enough he may agree to take the line over when he finds the phone is DOA.
if he refuses to take the line, She needs to decide which is cheaper, paying the monthly bill (which if she suspends and still pays, she can choose a much lower plan) or whether the ETF is cheaper.  But no matter what, short term I would suspend the line so it does not work.

What is your current plan?  In some cases it can be cheaper to move to a More Everything plan with an out of contract line. With More Everything, you will get a $15 per month reduction in line fee with a minimal data.

  • Question about upgrading a phone on a family plan

I have four phones on a family plan, 3 smart phones and 1 basic phone for my elderly father.
The first three phones (including mine) are still under contract until 12/13.  The basic phone
is eligible for an upgrade.  I would like to use that upgrade to get a new phone for myself but
keep the basic line for my father.  Can I use that upgrade to get another phone and move it
to my number and keep the 4th line as a basic line without data for my father?

Yes you can do that. In fact if you log into your account it gives you the option to switch upgrades. Just so you know even though you are using his upgrade HIS contract will be the one getting extended not yours.

After downloading ios 7.0.2 to my phone, it is copying messages to other phones in my family plan.  How do I stop it?  AT&T says it is an apple issue.  I went into imessage and other phone numbers are not checked, so it makes no sense why the messages are still being sent.  Help!

Is the same Apple ID being shown under Settings > Messages?

If my phone be stolen the stealer can turn off the phone without security code. Why?

Because that's the way it is designed. If you don't like it, don't purchase an iPhone, or tell Apple you don't like it:

  • Can you only upgrade one phone on a family plan?

My Verizon wireless contract just expired this month and I am looking for a new phone. Currently I do not have a smartphone and neither does my brother, who shares this family plan with me. He has decided waht phone he wants, but I'm still deciding between a Droid 3 and waiting for the Droid Bionic. My question is, can I sign up for a new 2-year contract now and he upgrades his phone but I keep my phone until the Droid Bionic comes out? Will I be able to do this and get the Bionic at promotional 2-year contract pricing?

Each line on your Family Share plan has its own contract.  That means you can upgrade them independently of each other, but if you choose to upgrade them at different times, they will have different contract end dates (which might be a consideration in the future if you wind up looking to switch carriers for whatever reason).  Also, you're only able to take advantage of Buy-One Get-One offers if you have at least two lines available to upgrade.
You can certainly upgrade your brother's line now and your line later, as long as you are OK with the two lines having different contract end dates.

  • With my current plan can I switch my iphone5c to the iphone 6 without cancelling the plan?

I just got into a contract with verizon like in May and I got the Iphone 5c. I want to keep the same contract but switch the phone to the iphone 6. I was going to the verizon store later today but I wanted to know if I can do the trade-in stuff but not change my contract.

You can trade in your phone but you will start out with the full retail cost of the iPhone 6...and can use what ever they give you for your 5c to offset the cost. You may be able to get more for your 5c by selling it yourself (eBay or some other method). Your only other option may be the Edge program.

  • Upgrade non-smartphone line to iPhone 4S and then transfer to different phone line on family plan

I am on a family plan where I have a smart phone and my father and mother have normal non-data phones.
My line is not due for an upgrade until June 2012.
A verizon rep told me that I could use my father's upgrade to pre-order and activate an iPhone 4S and then re-activate my father's non-smartphone on his phone # and activate the iPhone 4S on my own phone #.
Once activated on his phone number they will add the Data plan; but once I reactivate his old non-data phone I will no longer need the data plan.
Will this work? I'm not sure the rep I spoke to understood that my father has a non-data phone when she explained this procedure.

If you have an online account with Verizon Wireless, you can transfer the upgrade from one number on your account to another number on your account (for example, transfer the upgrade from your father's phone to your phone).
Sign on to verizonwireless.com. Log in with your user ID and password. Click on My Verizon, and select Upgrade Device. Below each phone on your account, there will be an upgrade device date, and a link to Transfer Upgrade. Click the link and it will ask you which line you want to transfer from, and you can transfer the upgrade to your phone. You won't need to switch the data plan on your father's phone at all.
I just did the same thing on my account to be ready for the new phone tomorrow. Hope this helps!

  • Old Family plans can no longer be used?

Today is the day I am able to upgrade my phone finally so I decided to preorder the Galaxy S III. I decided I'd rather lose my unlimited data and take the final NE2 $50 discount by waiting til today to preorder. So I'm going through the process and it tells me my plan is not compatible with my new device, and it gives me the option to either move to Share Everything (which I don't want to do because it is going to cost my family $20 more per month and we have no need for unlimited minutes or shared data as I am the only smartphone) or pick a new individual plan. I was under the impression this whole time that we would not be forced onto share everything(which is true) BUT that we would be able to KEEP our current plans (excluding unlimited data feature). But as I am going through the process, it is not giving me the option to keep our current rate plan. Is this actually the case, or am I just missing something?

    same answer applies
any upgrade will require a current plan
    sahre plan or individual
So when I upgrade my phone in 6 days I HAVE to take the new plans even though Verizon flatly stated current customers can keep the old plan.

  • Upgrading Multiple Phones on a Family Plan

I have been reading through posts on these forums and have yet to find a concrete answer to my situation. My wife and I have the nationwide family talk 700 plan and she is the primary number. When I login to our account online, it says that we only have 3 months left in our contract (up on 3/14/2011). When I click on upgrade it says her phone can be upgraded now at a discounted rate, but not my phone. We both want to get a Droid and add a data plan, however I would like to get the Droid R2D2 phone soon before they stop selling it as it is listed as a "limited edition" model. So if I were to use her line to get the phone now and activate it with my number, would she still be eligible to upgrade her phone on 3/14/2011? It is a little confusing to me that her phone is upgradeable now, but mine is not. Can someone verify my thought process here and let me know if what I am wanting to do is feasible? Also please point out any caveats with this process that I failed to realize. I understand that I will also need to add an additional data plan to our bill for each smart phone we activate. Perhaps this R2D2 phone will still be around in March and I should just wait to upgrade both at the same time??

The primary line is eligible at 12 months fro an annual upgrade - you can get a new phone at the two yr contract price, a $20 upgrade fee, and no NE@ discount is given, and the primary line's contract is extended two years.

It is a little confusing to me that her phone is upgradeable now, but mine is not. As explained above, the primary line is eligible for an ANNUAL upgrade, if the base plan is $49.99 or more - there is an additional $20 fee and the NE2 discount is forfeited till the next go round.

  • Using a phone from a Family Plan to a Single Line Plan

I am currently on a Family Plan and looking to switch to my own Single Line Plan. I would like to use my iPhone 6 and the same number on the new plan. Is this possible?

You'd need to do an Assumption of Liability.  From this link:
My Verizon FAQs | Verizon Wireless
note # 2 under Assumption of Liability.

  • Upgrade using another phone on my family plan

I have a family plan. One of my regular non data phones is eligible for an upgrade, but my Iphone 3G is not. Can I go to ATT and sign a new 2 year contact on the non data phone and upgrade my 3G to a 3GS? I don't want a data plan on the other phone, I want to keep it the same as it is.

While i dont have the other phone in my posession at this time. your response did click in my brain to check options under messages in my settings. At this time i turned anything on there off and changed my passcode in case this was not a accident..i'll see what happens and update my findings.

  • Can I switch my phone number between two lines(not just between phones)?

I have 4 months left on my current plan. I would like to take advantage of current holiday sales to get the droid razr for cheap. I am considering adding an additional line to my plan to get the upgrade. The problem with this is that I either have to use the new number and let my other contract end or continue on with my current number and pay for 2 lines for the next 2 years. I noticed that verizon lets you switch the phone number that is associated with your line. Would I be able to add an additional line to my plan and then switch the numbers between these two lines? Essential line A has number A and ends in 4 months, line B has number B and ends in 20 months, and I want to make it so that line B has number A and then only pay for line A for the next 4 months. Is this possible?

Verizon does not allow you to switch numbers since they are tied to your contact. However, there's a work around, because Verizon does allow you to port a number from another carrier to overwrite the existing number without changing your contract. So here's what you need to do:
    1. Get the Razr cheap like you wanted on a secondary line;
    2. Wait for 4 months so your main line contract is up;
    3. Port out your main line number to another carrier, for example, Pageplus;
    4. Wait till your bill cycle is passed and port that number from Pageplus to Verizon, overwrite the number on secondary line.
After step 4 you will have your main number back on the line with the Razr.

the reason is its a new phone, they dont typically do this for releases, shortly after they do
no clue why, its just they way they do things
