3 tb not recognised as 3 tb but only as 800Gb

I installed in an external case a new 3Tb Drive from WD30EURS. It is only recognised as 800Gb.
Do I need to set some jumper? Is it a problem of the external case or the new drive

Launch Disk Utility and check whether there are any special paritions on this new drive that could be holding the extra space. If not, and you've no data you care about on the drive, try formatting it as HFS+ and see if you recover the space. You might want to change it to GUID partition scheme at the same time.

I noticed that there many of you have the same problem, but I really need some advice here, my MacBook Pro cant recognise or burn DVDs but only CDs, well actually occasionally it does recognise the DVDs then it burn but cannot write (on Toast), also in many other apps, like iDVD or DVDSP, it does run well on the first part of the burning but then failed at the end, with all kinda diff error msg. I have tried using many diff brands of disc too, inc verbatim.
So I borrowed my friends external DVD writer (actually a cheapy one with no brand), when I tried to burn using the external then an error msg comes up and says the writer cannot recognise the disc.
I dont wana get the MBP to repair but just wana get a external DVD writer to solve the problem, cos i need to use my computer and dont have a replacement mac, but now I am worry if the problem i now having is a system problem or just hardware, not sure if it is because the DVD writer i borrow is cheapy so it doesnt cope with mac, or just my MBP have system error that cant burn DVDs...
But my MBP can burn CDs so it is not a hardware problem? and if that is a system problem so even I buy a new DVD writer wont solve the problem?
btw, I have tried many solving methods like rewriting permission, reset PVRAM, etc

I'm having the same problem you are on my 2.4GHZ Core2Duo MBP running 10.5.2. It will sometimes recognize DVDs, sometimes not... it chuggs and clunks and then spits the disc out. If i re-insert it a view times it will show up on the desktop. I get failures from Toast as well as iDVD. If i keep trying i have been able to burn files onto a disc with the finder, but then the burner fails during the verification. If put the disc back in the contents appear to be correct (after a quick look). Burning CD-Rs seems to be working fine, that with the occasional DVD write seems to point away from the HW. I am trying with both Memorex DVD+RW and Verbatim DVD-Rs...
I have tried the command/option-PR reset combo with no luck.
Any ideas?

The Mini Display port and Thunderbolt port use compatible connector bodies. Your current Mini Display to DVI or VGA adapter will still work as before on the newer Thunderbolt capable machines.

Congratulations on the new Mini. Are you saying you tried burning and it does not play, or do you want to burn it only for the computer to be able to play it?
OS X Mountain Lion: Burn a CD or DVD may help.

Ipod "usb device not recognised" on one computer but works with another!

I have a 60GB ipod video and a 2GB ipod nano. Both connect fine to itunes on my work laptop but will not connect to my home laptop. They have previously worked fine with the home laptop but now when conected the message "usb device not recognised one of the usb devices connected to the computrt has malfunctioned". I have tried reinstalling itunes several times and tried the usual reset of the ipods etc but nothing seems to work.

I-phone device not recognised in i-tunes, but is on windows. All Apple support advice does not resolve problem

My i-phone 3GS with latest operating system is not recognised in i-tunes, howver windows XP does see the device. I have tried all Apple support reccomendations to no avail. There was an error message when last syncing the device with i-tunes, I have uninstalled / re-installed etc and the device is recognised on other PC's i-tunes?

I have the same problem too. My phone wont show on my pc that's why I can't move my photos. But it does show on itunes.
Then I went to device manager and this is what I found. I dont know what to do though.

IPod not recognised on one computer but OK on another

I manage a number of iPod nanos for my children on my PC (vista). In the last few days, one of them (pink nano)is not recognised by windows nor therefore in iTunes. I tried by 60GB iPod and had same problem. Plugged in my blue nano and works perfectly.
Tried pink nano on my laptop (xp) and works perfectly.
Using latest version of iTunes and PC fully updated.
On PC, pink nano does not appear under USB controllers, but under Other Devices as Apple iPod USB device (with exclamation mark). The device status is: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
Can anybody shed any light on this please?

Flash not recognised by slideshow building programs only

Hi All,
Please offer me some advice.
Having installed Amara flash slideshow builder it failed to run stating my flash was not installed or out of date. I knew this was not the case but uninstalled and re-installed flash anyway. I tested it on the adobe site, all ok and also tested it on a couple of sites using flash. All ok. Same problem with Amara tho', not recognised.
So downloaded SWF 'n slide, another slideshowmaker. It also failed to recognise any flash installed (with dialog).
Following some research I downloaded SubInACL from microsoft and ran it to ensure all my permissions were ok, but seems they were ok as it hasn't changed anything. What do I do now? I'm kind of stuck, I really need a flash slideshow builder, but seems they won't run, why? Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi and thanks for your reply, I've downloaded acouple of small animations to my desktop, but the don't run when clicked (windows cannot find....). Where do mI go from here. Is this a bad install? If so then it won't fully uninstall either (i've used uninstaller from adobe). Help!

VI seen as not executable from LV runtime, but only in Full-Featured UI

I have a very strange situation that one of my VIs is claimed by TestStand as broken but only in Full-Featured UI with LV Runtime.
- SeqEditor runs it fine both in LV Development and LV Runtime
- Simple UI does the same (Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand 4.0\UserInterfaces\NI\Simple\LabVIEW\TestExec.exe)
- Full-Featured UI runs fine in development but shows Error -18002 in Runtime (Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand 4.0\UserInterfaces\NI\Full-Featured\LabVIEW\TestExec.exe)
This is even more weird that in our UI what created from Full-Featured this vi works fine in LV Runtime.
The vi does reading of .ini file from the disk. If it runs correctly and can not find the .ini it shows the selection dialog. I've created the dummy sequence Read INI.seq for this vi and copied its hierarchy.
I'm using LV 8.6 and TS 4.0

Is this your error message? If so then it is definitely the fact that you are trying to load two VIs with the same name. Have you changed the Full-Feature UI. Could it be another VI in your sequence?
it looks like you have a VI named Log Object_LogEventByReference.vi somewhere.
I tried your example but I don't think I did it right. When I get back to work Monday I'll give it another peak.

ISight not working with Apple apps but only with Skype and flash....

Hi guys, don't know why but suddenly my isight stopped working with every apple application, like ichat, imovie and photoboot, but it still works with skype and safari (flash).
The camera simply doesn't work, the green led stays off.... I tried resetting PRAM, SMC, deleted .plist files, tried new account and everything...
Maybe the problem is facetime, I uninstalled it by simply dragging it to the trashcan, so I followed a thread here and manually deleted its last files but no luck....
Please guys help me, I really hope I don't have to FORMAT my mac... sounds so windows to me XD...

(1) Your initial post shows you using Mac OS X (10.6.6),
but your latest post shows Mac OS X (10.6.5).
Have you "downdated" to 10.6.5?
(2) iSight works with iMovie, Photo Booth, QuickTime, and other apps like Address Book,
etc. You need not try every possible app, but please tell us which you have tested,
and which, if any, work with your iSight.
(3) Have you tested iSight operation in more than one user account?
Are the symptoms EXACTLY the same in any user account you test?
(4) If your only problem is with ALL apps in ALL user accounts, try applying the
Combo Update using the method suggested in this recent post:

My notes are stored on Yahoo but only half of them are on my ipad now

I only enter notes on my iPad but today some were missing. I went into my Yahoo account and they were all there but only half of them were syncing with my iPad. I turned off the Notes in the Yahoo under Mail, Contacts, Calendars and turned it back on but no luck. Rebooted the iPad but no luck. Some 'non syncing' notes are new and some are older. Ideas?

One of my keys won't depress as easily as it should. I have not tried cleaning it yet, but only the bottom of the key will depress.

My B key on my macbook pro is not typing correctly. The top half of the key barely goes down as I type. I have not tried cleaning it yet, but would cleaning it help?

Delete the song from your iTunes library and re-download it:
In the iTunes Store click on the Music tab, then on Purchased under Quick Links on the right. Click on Music>Songs>All Songs>Not in My Library, and find the song you just deleted. You should see a cloud on the right-hand side - click on it to re-download.

Itouch 3rd gen not recognised in Windows vista but ok in itunes (code 10 error)

Windows Vista pc running latest itunes. pc will recognise itouch 3rd gen in itunes but not in explorer. device driver posts a code 10 error. checked for update driver, response in latest driver installed (digital camera). Need help to be able to download photos in itouch.

Thanks IIIaass, I have checked to see that the Vista pc hase the lastest driver (confirmed latest drivers, incl MTP USB drivers) and tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes no luck.
I am having the same problem on another computer running windows 7 - itunes ok but code 10 error as well. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes on this pc as well - no luck.
Any other suggestions?

IPhone not recognised in My Computer, but is in itunes

About a week ago my iPhone just stopped being recognised in My Computer. Before this it was fine, it would recognise and I could move ohotos from my phone to an external hardrive. All of a sudden its not showing up there though?
It is recognised in iTunes and charges when attached. It even has the 'beep' sound it usually does when it is recognised.
I have tried a different cable, different usb port, enablibng and reabling the driver as per Apple site.
I have the latest updates on iTunes and my iPhone 4.
I tried it on an old computer I have and it is recognised there and I can transfer photos on that for now until I can get this issue sorted.
Any ideas?
