3-Way Calling/Conference Call needs to be imrpoved asap!!

Well come on verizon please fix this problem with the 3-way calling. Im only able to do one 3-way and thats all. only one time during the call. if the other line ends i cannot make another 3-way. I dont even have the option to end one line of the conference call. Im just stuck in conference mode. You should be able to hit conference and then something will show up and let you end one line. I used an AT&T iphone 5 and it works so much better. You have the option to end whichever line you want and you can add another line if u wanted to. Verizon you should be able to make it work like the At&t iphone. With the old basic phone im able to make as many conference calls as I like by just keep hitting the send button. I didnt pay $350 for an iphone 5 that doesnt have good 3-way calling features. Please improve ASAP. It should be like the AT&T iphone 5. When is the fix gonna happen becuase it has been like this for a long time.

Huh! You're right (even though that's not claimed in the specs).
I still detest the idea of having to run twin modems/radios to to voice & data.
There are 3 things that really bug me & may lead to me leaving Verizon:
1. The stated issue with multi-party calls (which this thread was about before Ohio & I hijacked it for a iPhone/Droid voice & data discussion.)
Even though I don't often have 6 lines going at once, the ability to merge incoming calls seems like a really basic functionality that I used to use quite frequently.
2. When I dial conference lines # have the passcode dialed as part of the number I used to be able to put: phonenumber, passcode.
This on AT&T (or any GSM or UMTS network) dials the number (silently), waits until it connects, dials the passcode.
On verizon, this seems to dial the number silently, start dialing the passcode to a ringing line.
OK: add more pauses...
but now it seems to dial the passcode silently (like with the phone number, which the system accepts) AND with tone. This would be OK if they were in sync, but they're not. I get: Thanks for calling, please enter your passcode: "beep!" Thanks, you're now connected. --and the rest of the people on my conference call hear the remaining beeps and boops until the passcode is complete.
#VZFail
3. Voice & data.
It's actually the one I care the least about, but it'd be nice to have a call AND use my phone for a mobile hot-spot. I know VoLTE will fix this, but I'm shocked to hear AT&T may beat VZ to the punch on this since Verizon has had LTE since just about forever.
(In fairness, AT&T has been less than ambitious to deliver LTE because their "3G" is 72Mbit capable & LTE is 100Mbit. VZ's 3G is single digit Mbit & LTE represents a huge jump. --and AT&T's 3G network can do voice + data with 1 radio, hold 6 calls at once, merge/unmerge any line at will. --you just get dropped calls.)
*sigh* Why can't I just have it all?!

  • 3 Way Call (Conference Call) on iPhone

Today is the first day I tried to make a 3 Way Call (Conference Call) on my iPhone... Here's what happens:
    - I call the first party and they answer
    - I push the Add Call button (which puts the first party on hold)
    - I dial the second party and they answer
    - When I push the Merge Calls button, it puts the second party on hold and releases the first party
    - Every time I push the Merge Calls button, it swaps callers putting one on hold and the other on line
Anybody know what is going on here?
    Tommy

I am a US user, and I got my iPhone on the 1st day they sold them, but today was the first day I had ever tried 3-Way calling.
I talked to Apple and they told me that my settings at AT&T had to be reset... may had been an issue that I was an AT&T user before I got the iPhone. So, they call AT&T while I was on the phone with them and explained what was going on... they did this because if I were to call AT&T and told them to do it, they may not know what I was talking about.
After resetting my AT&T account, I can now make Conference Calls.
    Thanks Apple,
    Tommy

  • Samsung Gusto: Three-way or conference calling?

I have a Samsung Gusto prepaid phone on Verizon. What I want to know is, is it possible to initiate three-way or conference calling from this particular phone? And if so, how do I go about doing that?
    Thank you.
    Brandon Taylor

I don't know for sure if it is possible, but here's how to do it if it is:
Call the first person. Then hit the send button again (this puts the first person on "hold") and call the second person. When you are connected to person #2, hit send again, and this should connect all three of you, if you have 3-way calling enabled.  Be aware that you, as the initiator of the call, will have twice the minutes taken out of your account for the duration of the call, as you are connected to two different calls at the same time.
You can also look into http://www.instantconference.com/ or http://www.freeconferencecall.com/index.asp for more robust conference call options.

  • Three-way or conference calling?

    Heyo.
Searchings the forums for the terms "3-way", "three-way", and "conference" yielded nothing so here goes.
Can FaceTime do three-way (or more) video chats?
    Thanks,

    Ok, thank you!
That's what I thought but the person at the Apple store "swore" it did.
    Glad I double-checked.

  • HTC ThunderBolt Three-Way Calling

Hi everyone. I've searched the forum but haven't found a topic that discusses this problem I have. When I'm using three way calling feature  on the Thunderbolt and want to disconnect just one call and continue with the other, the device drops both calls instead of just one. I checked the user manual and it says that I just need to select the call that I want to end press end call. For some reason both calls end. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    Hi everyone!
There is much confusion on whether this is by design or a flaw and whatnot. And some of the confusion may be mine.
Let me say first, my post on another thread that has been copy/pasted here was about call waiting only. It had nothing to do with a three-way conference call. The call waiting feature is designed to have both calls end and the original call rings back in five seconds later. The original caller in that scenario doesn't know it's ringing back to you, they're still on-hold and when you answer the call-back, they are re-joining you.
Now, in this thread about three-way calling, I believe what we are trying to correct (and establish something is wrong) is the 'private call' feature that allows you to basically end the 3-way call and go back to a two-way call with the first participant. And that function is not working properly, resulting in both calls ending.  I have a Thunderbolt and have never used the three-way conference call feature. And you can imagine the amount of people making use of this feature is far smaller than those making two-way calls. I only say that because internally we have nothing posted about this issue, making it hard to fix in any amount of software updates. I have tested three-way calling with two different thunderbolts and I have the same results. No 'Private Call' option.
So, I will take this information and escalate to our product team for further investigation in hopes we can correct it in a future update!
Please politely advise here if I'm way off base or not.
    Thank you so much!

  • Initiating a 3-way call

Is it possible to establish a 3-way call from a MIDP 2.0 MIDlet? I'm trying to work out a scenerio that allows a MIDlet to initiate a call, and then once connected to that call, initiate another call (sort of like a conference call). If anyone has tried this type of functionality were there any limitations on it, or gotchas? Also which devices models and/or SDKs might be better suited for this (Motorola, Nokia...etc). Anyones first hand experience would be of great assistance.
    TIA
    Sue

Well perhaps you won't need support from the telephony operator platform. You must know that i am wandering. If you could achieve to develope some kind of server that can receive phone calls you could make a 3 way-call (but remember that calls in midp are device dependent) ... If you had that server it could mix several phone calls from different sources, example:
You have 3 persons who want to talk each other at the same time. Their phones could make a phone call to your server and it could mix the 3 conversations, while they are talking, into one and return it to each phone device. It would work with whatever number of people.

  • H.264 doesn't seem to work... until I initiate a 3-way call

    Hello,
I seem to have a weird problem with iChat video conferencing. As the post subject indicates--I believe iChat doesn't automatically use H.264 (at least on my configuration) in two-way video calls but does it in multi-way calls, or more specifically after a multi-way call. I discovered it by:
    1. initiating a normal 2-way call - video's rather blocky, bandwidth use ~200 both ways
    2. adding a 3rd person to the call - video even blockier, still same bandwidth usage
    3. removing the 3rd person from the call - video suddenly gets much better (compared to the initial 2-way call, not only to the 3-way call!) with the same bandwidth usage - which makes me think it's H.264 that suddenly gets activated.
I get this with all of my iChat contacts (obviously I had them all check, I was just stunned by the sudden quality increase I got). I'm on a 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro so it's not a CPU speed issue. The only thing I can think of is that it might be due to the fact that I had migrated my system using Migration Assistant from a 12" PowerBook which might not have been H.264 capable (?) - at any rate I tried trashing iChat's .plists but to no avail.
I'd be very grateful for any ideas...

OK here's what the logs say--not surprisingly, it seems like the MacBook Pro is H.264 capable. What puzzles me is why iChat is looking into a "G4" file but I guess it doesn't matter much if it still finds it OK. I also tried starting a conference etc and having a look at the logs but the sheer amount of data spat out by iChat is rather daunting--is there anything specific I should be looking for?

  • N95-1 three way calling problem

I had 3 way calling feature before firmware update. After update . I can no loger be able to use that. (eg. while talking with a friend, if I dial the 3rd person, I can join the 2lines by pressing the green call button). After update, pressing call button doesn't join the 2 calls any more. It puts on hold the first call. If I press the call button again, it puts the 2nd person on hold and vice versa.Three of us can never be able to talk to each other at the same time as I used to. I updated the FW again no diffrence. My conference call works. I activated my call waiting. called my network operater and confirmed with them that my call waiting feature still actived. can any one help me?

Hey has anyone split up a  3-way call after initiating it.  I had the iphone for AT&T and I would simply tap conference and end call.  This is very helpful when you have someone on the phone and get someone else's voice mail.  I had american express after waiting for this person, I called the merchant and got their answering machine.   I then had to hang-up and was forced to hang up on all parties having to start all over again
I called and they told me after 20 min of research that this is not available with iPhone 4 CDMA.  Why not it is on my verizon blackberry so it is not a CDMA thing.  It is also available on my iphone for AT&T so it is not a phone thing.  Verizon/Apple please explain or at least offer a solution!!!
I think this the first bug with conference calling. See the wired review article:

  • 3 way calling question - NOT SOLVED

    I asked this question:
I know how to perform a 3 way call, but what if the 2nd person I called doesn't answer and I get voice mail?  I don't want to merge that call.
How do I hang up on the 2nd call placed without hanging up on the original?
    And recieved this response:
    Three-Way Calling
Merge two calls to set up a three-way call between you and two other parties.
    Setting up a Multi-Party Call
    1. Establish a call, either by dialing or answering an incoming call.
    2. Touch Add Call. The first call is placed on hold, and the Dialer displays.
    3. Enter the second phone number, then touch.
If the second person does not answer, press the Sendkey twice to end the connection and go back to the first person.
    4. Touch Merge. The two calls are joined into one, 3-way call.
However, there is no Send key once you place a call...only END CALL.
    PLEASE TRY AGAIN!!!

I'm a power user in sales on the road all day and it seems EVERY smart phone i get forgets about this "feature" ... it's a necessity!!! And no tech support person ever knows the answer because they're techy and barely talk on the phone much less conference!
When i tested it just now (because i've been trying to figure this out for 3 days), instead of pressing Merge Calls, I hit the Back Arrow and was offered 2 options:
    1) Return to Call in Progress (YES!!!!)
    2) Access dial pad (not sure why I'd want to do this)
    Hope this helps!
Maybe to try a different number (i.e. calling the cell phone instead of the office number you called originally)

  • Bandwidth of a 2-way-call through WAN?

    Hi Everybody,
I am getting confuse about the codec and bandwidth, wish somebody could help.
    By using T1, each channel contains 64Kbps for a 2-way-call, with a G.711 codec
If this 2-way-call is connected through the WAN/internet connection.
Does it consume 64kbps or 128kbps? or it depends on the type of WAN connection type?
    Thanks
    Sam

Take a look at the Voice Bearer Traffic Provisioning section, esspecially Table 3-10, in the SRND. G.711 at 20ms sampling rate over Ethernet without encryption or RTCP would be 85.6kbps.
Also, remember that you put bandwidth including only down to the Layer 3 overhead in CUCM's Location table while you need to include the Layer 2 overhead in the IOS Modular QoS CLI (MQC) configuration.
Please remember to rate helpful responses and identify helpful or correct answers.

  • 3 way call feature

I am not having a problem getting the 3 way call feature to work, I just can't drop the 3rd call like I should be able to according to tech support.  You are supposed to be able to "tap conference" and then "tap the phone icon next to a call.  The only place it says conference on my screen is across the top, and when you tap this and then tap end call you lose both calls.  The directions make it sound like you should be able to see a list with both callers and tap the "end call" next to whichever call you want to drop.  According to verizon this should work, but if does then I'm missing something.

Thank you kaebfly for your assistance. Adding to what was being said, the caller who starts the three way call is a sole connector of the other two other parties. So it bridges the communication for all. If you end the call, it ends for the other two parties. To maintain the communication with the second caller, wanting the third party to be disconnected, ask the third party to end the call on their end. Afterward, you will be on a normal call between two parties.

  • 3-Way Calling on Kin TwoM

Does anyone know how to make a 3-way call on a Kin TwoM? I would really like to use this feature, and I saw online that it was available for the phone.. And I hope that's true lol

From Page 47 of the KIN Twom Users Guide...
Conference calling You can set up a conference with two other callers:
1 Make your first call from the Dialer screen or a contact card.
2 Once your call has connected, tap Add call to open a list of your contacts
with phone numbers. Choose to Dial new number, or tap a contact from the
    list.
3 Tap the contact you want to add, or type the number in the dial pad and tap
    Call.
4 Once the call is connected, the in-call screen displays a Flash option. Tap it
    to merge all the calls.
Once you’ve tapped Flash, the two calls are “merged” and treated as one call,
    which means you can’t drop either of the calls. No Caller ID will be displayed;
you’ll see Connected at the top of the in-call screen.
I've never tried this myself, so I don't know if it really works or not.
