  • Is there a way to prevent roll-over ads from opening? Some sites are almost impossible to navigate because of this new nuisance.

For instance, www.roughstock.com is a country music website where you can see lyrics and chords for popular songs that contributors have sent in. From the main page you click on the "Cowpie" tab to enter the page where you can search for songs. If you do this I am quite sure you will experience one of the roll-over advertisements I am talking about. They are small ads which, if you touch any portion of their area, will TAKE OVER the screen and play until the advertisement is finished or until you are able to find a usually obscure 'close' button.
I've got 'pop-ups' disabled, but this new kind of ad is already resident on the page you wish to view so it is beating the system.
Also, I'm not spamming for that site, it's just the most recent site where I've experienced this problem.

It's going to get worse with crap like that as more web sites adopt HTML5 and HTML5 compatible browsers are released. There's all sorts of new tags in HTML5 that will probably be misused for displays like that.

Unfortunately when upgrading to iOS 6 the setting to add Facebook Contacts to your Contacts app is on by default. But once the upgrade is complete you can go to:
Settings > Facebook > and turn off Contacts.
That will get rid of the Facebook stuff showing up in your Contacts app.
BTW, I also turned off Calendar on my iPhone and iPad so that Facebook events and Friend's birthdays etc. will not show in my Calendar app.

  • PREVENT MALWARE AND VIRUS ATTACKS On your Razr And Razr Maxx

I put this on here for ones Wanting to Prevent Attacks From  M & V on the DROID RAZR MAXX  b33
How do I prevent malware attacks?
To prevent malware (spyware, phishing, and viruses) from disrupting your phone's performance or damaging your phone, do a little research before downloading each app. Read on for easy ways to protect your phone when choosing apps.
    Check the rating
Does the app get 4 or 5 starts? If so, it's probably a good one. If no one has posted comments along with the high star rating, be suspicious. Always check the comments, too, and if none are available, try an Android user forum search.
Read lots of comments in Market
Before downloading an app, read reviews from other Market users who have downloaded it to help you decide if it's right for you. On the app description screen, scroll down and touch Read all comments. Read a bunch of comments, not just the first few.
    Check the permissions
When installing an app, be sure to read the alerts that tell you what information the app will access. If you disagree with allowing access to that information, cancel the installation. If you are installing an app that makes a shopping list, for example, the app should not require access to your contacts. Even if the app is legit, you may not want to allow access to your information.
    Check Android user forums
Search Android user forums on the internet for the app name or post a question for other users to answer. Forums are great resources for sharing information. Your question will help other users, too.
    Check the developer's website
Market not only provides comments at your fingertips, but if you scroll farther, you can touch Visit the developer's webpage to go directly to it. Does it look professional or quickly thrown together?
    Post your own comments
After you download an app, you can rate it and post comments for other users to see. Just open Market and touchDownloads. Touch the installed app, then touch a star to rate it. Once you rate it, touch Post a comment to add yours. The more information available, the safer things get! Your Android community thanks you.
    Still not sure?
If you are unable to find information using the previous suggestions and are unsure of the safety of the app, do not install it. There are plenty of other apps to choose from.

I like how for over 2 years this hasn't been answered. This issue is still current.

Carefully follow steps 1-9 outlined by wjosten in this post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13356770#13356770.  This will not, however, avoid wiping any non-purchased media from your phone (ripped CDs, etc.) as this is only synced one way: from your computer to your phone.  You will have to either rebuild your iTunes library with this content and sync again to restore it to your phone, or purchase 3rd party software to copy it from your phone to iTunes prior to syncing (such as Touch Copy).

    Yes.  You can set restrictions.

  • Is there any way to prevent the OS from querying the Superdrive when start

Just a random question. Whenever my MacBook Pro starts up (either from sleep or a complete/fresh start, the OS queries the drive slot to see if there is a disc present. While this may be normal behavior, it seems to slow down the start up process. (I rarely ever have a disc in the drive). Just curious if this, in fact, normal, or if there's something awry.

Is there any way to prevent the OS from querying the Superdrive when start
    No
he OS queries the drive slot to see if there is a disc present.
How can you tell? Based on the noise it makes?

I have a MacBook Pro.  When surfing the web it will eventually slow to a crawl.  When this occurs, there will be a small multi-colored wheel spinning until my latest command is handled.  What is causing this and is there a way that I can modify or prevent this from happening?  Is there a setting that will prevent this?

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

  • Is there a way to prevent actions, like spaces, to only occur on one screen when using multiple monitors?, Is there a way to prevent actions, like spaces, to only occur on one screen when using multiple monitors?

Hello, I am using my Macbook Pro, late 2012 with a second monitor, which is a TV. I am wondering if there is a way to prevent spaces from poping up in the second monitor when i want it to ocur in the primary monitor? So on one monitor, or whichever one the mouse is, I want say Spaces, or Launch pad to popup on and not interfer with the other screen. Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Harrison Howard

I believe the answer is no.
I have not been able to make extra monitors stick with a particular space.
Also, there is a relevant discussion here regarding this matter.
The last poster suggests a workaround which does not work as far as I can tell.
    Here is the discussion thread
    Best of luck

  • Is there any way of saving progress in a game/app when you remove it from the ipad to the cloud

Is there any way of saving progress in a game/app when you remove it from the ipad to the cloud.
Basically i have a 16gb ipad2 (big mistake) so space on the ipad  is precious. obviously i occasionally need to remove games/apps to make way for other apps from my cloud. The problem is, when I remove an app to make way for the new app I lose all my progress in that game apart from the option to save leader-board stats (which is the least important thing to me). Its very annoying to get so far in a game only to have to remove it to make way for a movie and lose all my progress!!!!!
    Any way round this?

I do not know how to save game data when deleting an app, but as for updating, if you connect the ipad to a computer and do the update through itunes, you will not have to download the update package to the ipad just to the computer. so you don't have to free up quite so much space, as for movie and photo storage you can look at the sandisk wireless and airstash wireless SD card adapters, they create their own wireless network and come with apps that allow you to store and then stream movies to the ipad instead of loading them to the ipad storage.

  • Is there any way to prevent fields from being overwritten when importing data via xdp-file?

In an pdf-form designed with LCD everytime the form gets merged with an xdp-datafile content of all fields get overwritten, regardless which data-binding (normal, global, none) is assigned to the fields and regardless if the fields are exluded in the xdp-datafile. Is this normal behavior and is there any way to prevent fields from being overwritten?

The xdp-file is first exported from Acrobat Professional 8 (export data as *.xdp) to get the complete structure. Then in the xdp-file some fields are removed manually and other fields are filled with data. When the modified xdp-file is opened again with Acrobat Professional 8 it grabs the original pdf-form and merges the manually filled fields into the form. With the merge all other fields in the form are overwritten, even if they are not defined in the xdp-file. And that is what I want to avoid. I want to merge the xdp-file into the form and keep the data in fields not defined in the xdp-file.

  • When changing "browser.newtab.url" is there any way to prevent the address bar from getting focus?

When I change "browser.newtab.url" to about:home and open a new tab, focus is set to the address bar not the search box on the firefox home page. The same thing happens if i change the url to google.com or another search engine. Is there any way to prevent this from happening.

Custom new Tab has a small bug if the start page is exactly the same as the new tab page. Then the focus of the start page is on the address bar. Just leave the "www." out in the startpage and use "www." in the new tab page then it works perfectly. e.g.
    Startpage: google.com
    new Tab page : www.google.com
Now the focus of the start page is on the search box.

  • Is there a way to prevent an image from turning blue when selecting it?

I'm exported a pdf from InDesign that will be used as a brochure for one of the exhibitions at our museum. I'm wondering if there's any way to prevent an image from turning blue when a reader clicks on it. Since all of the images are works of art, I'd rather that they not change color when people click on them.
I changed the security settings so the images couldn't be copies, hoping that would prevent the blue square, but it didn't help.
    thanks for any suggestions.
    Chris

There are several ways to do that and here are but two of them.
    1. If you want to make a new image you can right click on the channel, click on Duplicate Channel and under Destination>Document, select New
    2. If you want to add a new layer to your document, click on the channel in the channels panel, go to Select>All, then Edit>Copy, click on RGB in the channels panel and then Edit>Paste

Is there a way to prevent iTunes from starting up when connecting an iPad to my Macbook?  We use Apple Configurator and would love to be able to set up the MacBook to open Apple Configurator when we  plug in an iPad.

When you connect the device open iTunes and select it from the sidebar. Click on the Summary tab in the main window. Uncheck the option to automatically connect to iTunes. You will find it in the collection of options near the lower part of the window.
