30" Cinema Display vs 24" LED CInema Display

I am on the fence about a 30" Cinema Display vs. a 24" LED Cinema Display. My concern is the technology of the 30" display. Are there any concerns I should have about its technology being outdated? How about the CCFL bulbs and their lifetime vs. that of the LED? I know I can get them refurbed for $1299 but price is not the issue. I want to invest money into something that is going to last a while.
Any owners out there with 30" displays that have had them for a while with no issues?

I just took delivery of the 30" and to this point I am disappointed. In my opinion, my wife's 24" iMac display is much clearer and much more vibrant. I have the older plastic 20" that is much easier to view with it's mat finish than the 30" mat finish. The 30" has some sort of subtle sparkle to it and the 20" is perfectly flat looking. I can't explain the look on the 30" but it is very disturbing to me. It's almost like the glisten on a screen when you wipe a damp rag across it.

  • Horizontal shifting bars on MBP 15 after disconnecting 24" LED cinema display and waking up from clamshell mode.

I use my MBP 15 (late 2011) with 24" Apple LED Cinema display in a clamshell mode. After disconnecting external display, and opening display, it shows horizontal shifted bars, so it becomes completely unusable. Have to hard reset laptop. Any hints on how to resolve this? Thanks.

Ok, more information for anyone that might care. The wake-up seems to be the familiar dark wake in order to go into hibernate mode. Except now, it's a death wake. Looking at the logs, I see that it happens exactly 70 minutes after sleeping, even though hibernatemode = 0 (which shouldn't hibernate at all!)
So my power settings look like this:
    Currently in use:
    standbydelay         4200
    standby              1
    halfdim              1
    hibernatefile        /var/vm/sleepimage
    darkwakes            0
    gpuswitch            2
    disksleep            10
    sleep                10
    autopoweroffdelay    14400
    hibernatemode        0
    autopoweroff         1
    ttyskeepawake        1
    displaysleep         2
    acwake               0
    lidwake              1
standbymode is 70 minutes, what a coincidence. I'm going to try setting it to 0 and see what that does.

I am having this same issue. Im not sure if this is the cause but I think this is keeping PowerDVD Ultra 11 from playing back Bluray under Windows 7 / Bootcamp

  • How to connect multiple Apple LED Cinema Displays to MacBook Pro

I have an Apple 24 inch LED Cinema display that I run from my MB Pro. I mainly use the MB Pro+ screen for document editing.
I would like to run a second Apple 24 inch Cinema display from the MB Pro. I am presently running another monitor successfully via a Dynalink USB splitter but would really prefer to run a second Apple monitor. I have enquired at two Apple Stores and browsed lots of sites. Multiple monitors from MB Pro seems ok (as long as it's not two Apple monitors). I would be surprised if Apple is content to pass up the opportunity to sell more of these superb screens.
Grateful for any advice and suggestions

The cord attached to the display splits into a Mini DisplayPort, USB, and a MagSafe connector (for powering a laptop).
There is a separate connector on the back of the display for the AC power cord.

  • I need to connect my LED cinema display to nvidia quadro 4000 graphics card

I cant find any adapter to connect my "LED cinema display" to the brand new graphics card "nvidia quadro 4000 (for Mac pro)"
As i coldnt find any information since now, ihope someone can give me a hint.

They included the wrong DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort adapter.  The correct adapter should have a female Mini DisplayPort connector, not male.  You could buy the correct adapter or you could add a F-F Mini DisplayPort coupler

  • Macbook pro screen blinks after connecting it to LED Cinema Display

Hello, just bought a 27 LED Cinema Display to connect my macbook pro 17 (early 2009).
Everything fine until today. After disconnecting my laptop to the display the screen of laptop blinks.
    Never had this problem.
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    Ignacio

...but I need to be sure that my macbook will not stop working if I leave the problem with the screen blinks.
Of course you do — we all need to be sure our machines will keep working properly. Unfortunately, there's never any certainty about that, even if one's machine is working perfectly right now. But if it's any consolation, I've seen nothing posted in these forums to indicate that the blinks commonly foreshadow anything worse, so I think you can be reasonably confident that your machine isn't at the start of a predictable course of deterioration.

  • Is there a way to turn off a 24" LED Cinema Display without unplugging it?

I recently bought a 24" LED Cinema Display to use with my Macbook Air 13".  However, it doesn't seem to have an "off" button.  When I close the MacBook Air, the display is active - so it can be used with peripheries - but I'm not sure how to turn it off safely.
If there is no way to turn it off, which I suspect is the case, is it best to disconnect from the computer or from power to turn it off each day?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hey ASMNYC,
While the Apple 24" LED Cinema Display does not have an off switch as such, and can not really be turned off short of disconnecting from power, it is possible to put the display into a low power consumption mode - display sleep. See this article for more information about Energy Saver modes -

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Using the Macbook with new LED Apple Cinema Display? Not a beginner's Q...

Hi - I'm sort of cross-posting this because I'm not getting any answers in the Apple Cinema Display Forum, so here goes. So far, no one - not even a tech guy at a local Apple Reseller - has been able to help, so I've got my fingers crossed.
I just got a 24" Apple LED Cinema Display and am using it with my 13" Aluminum Unibody Macbook. What I do is dock the Macbook (with closed screen) when at home with the big display and just use that. I enlarge program windows and arrange the layout (in different spaces) to take advantage of the large screen and resolution. So far so good.
But I'm a student and take my macbook with me to class. When I open it up, all the program windows are set as they were on the larger screen, which means some are out of view or simply not well-adjusted for the smaller and lower resolution of the Macbook. I manually adjust these and work on the Macbook that way.
But when I return home in the evening, I have to adjust them again once I 'dock' the Macbook. Kind of a pain if I'm doing this twice a day.
What I'd like to know is: is there a setting or group of settings that would do this automatically for me? A program? An AppleScript? Surely someone out there has had the same issues and has found a fix, if such a thing exists. Or is it just a fact of nature one deals with when working on two screens?
To preclude one response: yes, I know I can mirror the displays when I open the Macbook along with the LED Cinema Display. But this simply mirrors them using the lower resolution and dimensions of the Macbook screen. And that kind of negates having the larger, Cinema Display.
So - any thoughts? Solutions? How do you guys manage with this?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I don't really have a solution for you but wanted to link you to a discussion on this very topic that took place last month on MacInTouch.
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/helpplease/topic3939.html#d24sep2009
The conclusion seemed to be that it is not an OS issue, it's an application issue. There really was no good answer but some good insight into why the problem exists and why it may not be something Apple can fix.

  • LED cinema display doesn't work under boot camp

I just installed Boot Camp and Windows 7 x64 on a Macbook Pro 2010 (6,2) with and NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256MB video card. The Boot Camp drivers automatically installed during the process. I plugged in my 27 inch LED Cinema Display, which works just fine on the OS X side. However, the screen was dark, as if it wasn't plugged in.
Audio does go through the Cinema Display.
I have tried to repair the drivers twice by running the Boot Camp support software.  I also tried to run the NVIDIA driver installation software separately. It failed.
So, what can I do to get the Cinema Display working?
    Thanks.

I found a solution that worked for me. I deleted from my USB drive the Boot Camp support software that I had downloaded from the Apple website and downloaded in its place the support software through the Boot Camp Assistant program. I ran setup.exe, did the repair option and restarted. I then went to the NVIDIA driver install application on the USB drive and ran it. This time, it worked! I restarted the computer and both the laptop display and the Cinema Display lit up.
Originally, and during the previous 3 times trying to repair the drivers, I saw the ATI graphics driver getting installed. Somehow, it appears that the NVIDIA drivers didn't install before.
    I hope this helps others.

  • How do i go about troubleshooting a 27" LED cinema display?

I am using a MacPro 5,1 (the tower, NOT the MacBook) with a 2.8 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor. I have a 27" LED Cinema Display (2048x1152) connected by the display port. Both were purchased new in 2011.
A while back (a year, maybe) my display refused to work. I unplugged the display from the power source and reconnected the port. I switched to the other port, but nothing seemed to work. Luckily, I have an extra, identical display (which was purchased at the same time as the original). I connected the extra to the computer and viola! Works perfectly. Okay, so there was something wrong with the display. I set it aside to figure out later (which we all know means it just sat in the corner collecting dust)
Here's where it gets weird. Several months down the road, I come in to work and the exact same thing happens. Except now, I'm swapping out with the original display. It works! So the extra monitor gets shuffled to the corner to do the dust collecting.
So, now here I am again, several months later. I come in this morning and no display. I plug in the extra display and wouldn't you know it, it inexplicably works.
I don't believe it is either of the ports on the tower. But I also don't believe it's the cables or the display. I kind of think there may be some sort of pixie or trickster playing pranks and giggling at my confusion. More likely there's some sort of technical explanation, but I'm not clever enough to figure it out. Any sort of advice, suggestions or protection spells would be appreciated.
If any more information about the hardware is required, just let me know.
    Thanks!

If you have a USB keyboard, you can plug that in to the back of the Cinema display to adjust the brightness.
