30" Dell display troubles

I purchased a Dell 30" display, the 3007WFP-HC to be exact, and I have this weird issue with light green and blue lines of pixels flickering when I'm on a dark (not black) area and dark red pixels flickering on light (not white) areas of the screen. I have a link to some pictures and movies of what exactly is happening on my idisk http://idisk.mac.com/dan.bowe-Public?view=web . I called Dell and their Indian call center was no help. They keep saying its an issue with the video card or drivers. I bought a new, different model card from OWC, same exact thing happens. Is anyone else having this problem?

Unfortunately, the only other DVI cable I have is not dual link compatible, so it won't work with the 30".
I think its a bad monitor too. In addition to getting a new video card, I've also tested it at 1920x1200. Its not the native resolution, but it was what I was running my older Sony 23" monitor at when I had it hooked up to this system previously. It happens to a lesser degree at that res, but it still happens. The Sony never had that problem.
Another pain in the neck is that my Apple Care just ran out in April, so I can't even call or get an appointment at a genius bar without spending more money. I wish I knew someone with a MacBook Pro so I can test it out, just to see if it isn't a problem with the G5s. Although I haven't heard of anyone else having this problem. In fact, all I've read is how people love hooking up a cheaper 30" Dell monitor to their Macs, G5s included. Guess I'm just lucky.

  • Trouble with Dell display

I have a Dell LCD display which I have connected to my Macbook with a MiniDisplay Port to DVI converter, and then a DVI cable running to the display. My computer seems to acknowledge the display, but the display reads "Cannot display this video mode, change computer display input to 1360 x 768 @ 60Hz". When I go to System Preferences > Displays > Gather Windows, I can see the settings for the Dell display. They are the correct settings, the same as above.
Is there anything I am doing wrong or need to change to get the display to work? I would not like to mirror the displays, I would like to have it as an extended desktop.
    Thanks,
    Collin

Ok I solved it, and I'll post how because I see this issue everywhere on the net since I've been searching and there hasn't been a working solution. The problem is with the display, not the Mac. (Should have known).
In the Dell's menu, I scrolled to Setup, DVI Settings, and changed "Source" from "Video" to "Auto"
I now see my apple's background and can use the display as an extended desktop.

  • Mac Mini and the Dell Display

Has anyone ever used the Mac Mini with a Dell Display? Specifically, the Dell SP2309W. If so, how well the two work together? Thanks in advance!
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=e n&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-7641

I bought one of these when they first came out. It's a nice monitor but the camera has been a bust. It just won't work reliably. Maybe the firmware has been improved since when I bought mine. But if you care about the camera and mic working, you should investigate further to make sure it's working better than it is on mine.

    quick infos :
example : nomaly the MacBook 17" ( ATI 6750M ) should be able to adress 4 external Displays ! But in combination with the intel HD 3000 the Mac Book 17" are only able to adress 1 external Display ( + the internal Mac Book Display ) . Thats totaly horrable for me ! ( Windows7 x64 ) also i face a lot of problems with OSX with ext. Displays.
Now as i write bevore i plan to buy new devices and its a lot of money i want to invest.
    1. The MacPro offer 6 Thunderbolt2 Ports
    - is it possible to connect to each of this Ports 1 Display ?
    - how many Displays would be possible under Windows ?
    min. i have to use are 3 Dell Displays maybe 4 ( i have 5 Dell 2410 )
    2. about the MacPro 2013 and Windows
    - i read on apple website : only Windows 8 are supported ? is this right ???

    3. This now a question about the MacBook Retina 15" highest config.
    - can i connect 2 external Displays under Windows ?
    - this Mac offers 2 Thunderbolt2 Ports ( each on 1 TB-Port ? )
Thanks in front for your help !

I couldn't tell you about the MacBook Pro (perhaps someone on that forum would be able to answer).
As far as the Mac Pro is concerned, the short answer is yes you can connect up to six displays.  Here is a support doc from Apple that tells you the specifics of using displays under Windows 8 via Boot Camp.
As far as only supporting Windows 8, that's correct.  No, you can't run Windows 7 under boot camp, the issue is that there aren't any Windows 7 drivers for all the brand new hardware in the new Mac Pro.
I hope that helps - good luck!

  • Can you connect MacBook Air (2010) to Dell Display S2440L?

Hi, I have a MacBook Air from mid 2010, uses an HDMI to mini display port cable.  I am trying to use a new Dell Display S244OL but it just flashes that it is going to go into power saving mode.  Is there something I can do to make it work?

You would need to consult with B&W on that one, as it's not an Apple product and they would know it capabilities best you should right to the source.

  • MBP Retina bad display on external Dell display

My MBPr LCD display is great: crisp and clear.
However, when I connect my desktop Dell display, the result is washed out and difficult to read fonts.
I've tried with both mini-DVI and mini-VGA.   The mini-VGA is perhaps marginally better, but in both
    cases is borderline unusable.
    Any clues?
    Thanks!

I've a 2011 MBA, 2008 MBP and a Dell U2410 24" 1920x1200-native setup with zero problems, until I replace the aging MBP with rMBP. Now I get the same issue as the OP.
I've searched extensively, but "blurry images, washed-out colors, smudgy text" isn't very scientific/concrete so it's not easy to have a clear-cut case. On this same issue (I believe), I've found the following threads:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4119545
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=15565120
I'm trying to document the issue as much as possible, with photos taken off the display. (I've found screen capture doesn't work). They're posted at http://goo.gl/XLdMf
    Further background
The same mini-DP to DP cable is used to connect MBA, rMBP (and my previous 2008 MBP) and have been in service since I've the Dell. No issues at all, except the rMBP.
I've tried HDMI-HDMI from rMBP to Dell. Same lousy display quality.
The Dell U2410 accepts DP, HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs.
On the monitor itself, I can press a few buttons to ask for display info. In both cases, the Dell reports it is displaying in 1920x1200 @ 60Hz. (So this rules out the problem of trying to display 1920x1080 on a 1920x1200 native display).
I've done a Factory Reset on the Dell, to no avail.
    When the MacBookAir4,2 (2011 MBA) is connected, a range of resolutions is available:1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, 1920x1200x 1600x1200, 1600x1000, 1344x1008, 1344x840, 1280x1024, 1280x960, 1280x800, 1024x768, 1024x640, 960x600, 800x600, 800x500, 720x576, 640x480
    When MacBookPro10,1 (rMBP) is connected, only 3 choices present itself:1920x1200, 1600x1000, 1280x800
Comparing the 2 Colors tab photos, notice how, when the rMBP is connected, the fonts have a white shadow all around the black fonts.
Comparing the 2 Display tab photos, look at the "1920" in the selected "1920x1200" option. Notice how, when the rMBP is connected, the bottom of the "1", "9", "2", "0" are smudged together

  • How do I get 2560x1600 with a 30" Dell display in Bootcamp on the Retina MBP

I had a MBA 11" that recognized the 30" Dell 3007WFP display at its native resolution.
To get it to work in Mountain Lion I used the "hold option when scaling" trick. Success.
    Bootcamp though isn't working.
Since getting Retina MBP and Mountain Lion Bootcamp NVIDIA graphic drivers installed, I can play games on the Retina at 2880x1800 fine, and the external only works at 1280x800. It shows that it can go up to 2560x1600 but it doesn't actually work.
Is there something wrong with Apple's adapter for Thunderbolt to DVI-D Dual Link and the new drivers or the MBP Retina's Thunderbolt port?  The display is only receiving Single Link instead of Dual Link, limiting the resolution to 1280x800 instead of 2560x1600.

    hi guys
before I bought Retina, I did a little research on the internet...
I remember reading that for the time being, you cannot use retina MBP with other displays at max or higher resolution under bootcamp...
I read that the driver for this retina mbp video card was Apple Mac OsX specific or something like that.
Therefore, no support under other than Mac osx environment yet...
I don't know if I made myself clear...
you can do a little research on the internet and you'll easily find articles talking about this issue...

  • MacBook Pro 2011 Won't Detect External Dell Display

I have a brand new 2011 MacBook Pro, 17" that I use with a 24" Dell E248WFP monitor. I purchased a Moshi HDMI to DVI adapter, and at first everything worked fine--I would use the MBP with the lid closed, everything would show up on the display, and everyone was happy. Then I disconnected my MBP one day and took it somewhere, and when I came back I couldn't get the external display to connect. But then I tried some things and it did. The next time I disconnected my MBP from the display I had problem again, but after 10 minutes of fiddling around it finally worked again.
Over time, I found that different things would work, but not consistently. That is, sometimes I could merely click on "detect displays" and that would fix the problem. Other times I would put the computer to sleep, then shut the lid and move the external mouse or press a key on the external keyboard, and that would work. Sometimes if I just left it alone for a half hour I would come back and the external monitor would suddenly work for no apparent reason. But it was rarely consistent. What worked one time would not work the next.
This week, I went somewhere with my MBP, and when I came home I couldn't get it to connect. I have now been trying to fix this for two days and although I have tried hundreds of things I can't get the monitor to connect. Yes, the monitor is on. Yes, the monitor works otherwise and appears to be in fine functioning order.
I have tried restarting, resetting PRAM, shutting down, starting up with the monitor unplugged and then plugging it in, starting up with the monitor plugged in, shutting the lid while restarting, not shutting the lid while restarting, putting the MBP to sleep and then shutting the lid and then pressing a key on the external keyboard (it wakes up my MBP but nothing comes up on the external monitor), I've verified that the internal and discreet graphic modes are both working, and many other things. I have no idea what else to try, but I do know it doesn't seem to be working.
What I have not tried is connecting the MBP to a different monitor, but given that I already had problems before wherein the monitor would work, not work, work, not work, etc., I'm inclined to believe it's a software issue with the MBP, as opposed to any hardware problem with the monitor, although I suppose it could be something with the MBP.
I've examined many other threads from people seeming to have this problem, except none of them seem to have run into such a dead end as I have. And while I would love to have an excuse to buy a 27" Mac display for $1,000, I'd also love to have an excuse not to. If anyone has more things I can try to fix this, please let me know.

Hi, I'm having the same problem, tried to connect both a Viewsonic and a Hanspree. Was happy to find your response here, but I just got the Moshi adapter with the macbook pro so it seems silly it would have gone bad. :/
I suppose I'll take it into the Apple Store and see what they say. Thanks!
    ^_^

  • Odd... Dell Display kills internet in boot camp

When I hook up my Macbook pro to a dell 2007fp via DVI, in boot camp, the internet seems to get messed up. The computer won't be able to connect to the network, or the network connection stops. If I try to repair the connection, it says that there is limited signal to the router, which is literally 10 feet away. As soon as I disconnect the monitor the connection works perfectly. It doesn't matter if the computer is clamshell or open, the minute i connect the monitor, the internet craps out.
The monitor has worked fine, with zero problems using Vista 64 bit on a pc, the same OS that the mbp runs. I have no clue what is going on. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately this didn’t solve my problem. It did improve slightly.
I stopped by an Apple store today and the MacPro with 30” Cinema display was doing the exact same thing. I don’t remember mine doing this in the past. To make matters even more frustrating, the problem doesn’t exist when I boot to XP. I wonder if some software or firmware updated caused the problem.

  • External Display Troubles

This is a somewhat different problem from the previously discussed thread regarding the upgrade to 10.5.2.
I've been using my MPB 15" with a Dell 2007WFP 20" monitor for about two months now, via the DVI cable. I've been using it on extended desktop mode, with spaces set to a 2x2 configuration. This has worked well for me for, as I said, 2 months. Until yesterday.
I turned on the MBP, and instead of getting the expected login screen on the MBP display with the Leopard background displayed (minus the login window) on the external monitor, I get the expected on the MBP display, but a jumbled image on the Dell.
This is odd, so I restart only to find the same result. Now, fearing for my two month old Dell monitor, I connected it via VGA (using the adapter), and receive nothing but a blank screen. I also tested this on an Acer LCD monitor connected via VGA, with the same result. So, I know its not my screen, as it works fine with another computer.
I've called Apple Support, who weren't very useful. They encouraged me to insert the install disk and run a hardware test, which I did. With the monitor disconnected, I received no error codes. With the monitor connected, I received error code:
    4sns/40000000:tgod
So, I have no idea what that means.
Any help? Also, any idea if a reinstall of Leopard would work?
    Thanks for any help.

I think I'm having the same problem as you. My external display which is hooked up through VGA via the dongle my MacBook Pro came with. Ever since that **** graphics card update it seems my HP w2207h will not work in OS X. I have windows installed on my machine and it works just fine in windows. That is probably the thing that ****** me off the most about this. In OS X the external monitor recieves NO signal from my MBP but I have 2 displays in the preferences and can rearrange them as if they both worked. *** APPLE! This is pretty ridiculous problem to have and a patch needs to be put out pronto. If not luckly I have a Time Machine backup of before this **** graphic card update. After a couple more days I'm restoring it and not installing the graphics update.

  • Force External Dell Display Into Power Save Mode

How do I set up my MacBook Pro to send a video signal to my external Dell monitor to tell it to go into Power Save Mode when the MacBook Pro goes to "Sleep" (after the Preference set default of 14 minutes)?

I've tried a factory reset on the monitors. My monitors sleep settings are fine and they wake up from being asleep perfectly. As of this morning my little trick of unplugging them and swapping connections has stopped working. Now, when I swap cables the video card automatically assigns the primary video output to one of the monitors and keeps the other one asleep. very strange. So when I unplug the mini video adaptor from the dvi cord and then place that same cord in the native dvi output on the video card the card automatically reassigns the primary video output to that channel. So no matter how much witching I do I always end up with the system acting like I have a stretched desktop but with only the left display working while the right one is asleep. It's time to give apple support a call.

  • DVI to 22" Dell Display monitor question

    Hello,
I would like to hook up my MBP 17" to a Dell 22" display and would like to know what cable I would need. DVI-D? DVI-A? DVI-I?
This monitor accepts both DVI and VGA inputs.
    Your assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jordan

I have a similar question. I have a dell 20" widescreen I want to connect to a mac mini which hasn't arrived yet. I orded the DVI-mini display port adapter which came first and the pin configuration is slightly different than what the dell monitor cable has. The dell has 2 3x3 groups with a 2x3 gap in between them and the apple adapter is 8x3 with no gap. Will it still work if the dell has fewer pins than the adapter? Maybe for features some DVI monitors have that mine doesn't? All the pins which are present line up with the holes ok so they will plug together.
