30" Display, Linux, NVIDIA Quadro4 900 XGL

Hey all,
I'm trying to drive my new 30" Cinema Display with a Quadro4 900 XGL under linux, and I'm struggling. Currently, I can get 1280x800 by using a modeline that I found in this group (I think), but I would like 2048x1280. The max resolution for this card is reported to be 2048x1536, so I don't expect to be able to get the max monitor resolution of 2560x1600.
Can anyone help with the modeline settings for 2048x1536?
Many thanks in advance.
Dan Hartman

Dan,
Dual DVI isn't the same as dual link. Each DVI connection can actually have two separate channels - most cards and monitors only need a single channel, but the ACD 30" and other extremely high res monitors can use a second channel.
If you've got AGP, the most affordable solution is the PNY 6600GT AGP 128 (<$200) -- you need the US version which has two DVI connectors, apparently the European version only has 1 DVI connector and it is single link. You won't find any mention of dual-link on the box, or on PNY's website for the card, but myself and others have it and use it successfully with the ACD 30. Still, to be safe I'd buy from a place that you can return to if necessary.
Other options include ATI high end card (I think its the FIRE GL X3, but not sure offhand), the high end nvidia cards (Quadro 3000), or the Matrox Parhelia DL. The Matrox is the cheapest (~$500 i think), but it has vastly inferior 3D performance when compared to the ATI/nv offerings. While all of these are more expensive than the PNY 6600, they are officially dual-link cards and you could yell at the companies if they don't work.
Thats all the ones I know of - the rest are all PCIE -- for example, nv7800 cards all seem to have dual link.

  • K8T Master & Nvidia Quadro4 NVS 400??

I was just wondering if anyone here is using an Nvidia Quadro4 NVS 400 (4 display PCI video card) with the K8T Master-2 FAR motherboard?? After having nothing but problems trying to get two dual-head video cards to work on this mobo (one AGP, 1 PCI) I've decided to maybe try a single quad-display PCI card, but was hoping for some input before I make any purchases.
    Thanks in advance,

Hi and thanks for the reply,
I did use a different switch and it did the same thing.
I haven't tried a higher wattage one but I doubt it needs that much juice,
especially without anything plugged , ie. hdd, cdrom...

  • Solaris 10 x86 (10/08) and an nVidia Quadro4

    Hi all!
I have an nVidia Quadro4 AGP graphics card that originally came with the box that I installed Solaris 10 x86 and Xandros 4.5 OCE on. I didn't have DVI to VGA cables at the time so I went with an ATI 32MB Radeon 7000.
I know have the needed cables and would like to use this card. One question, nVidia lists their drivers for the x64/x86 Solaris 10. I have a P4 2GHz box-would this driver work? I am not above doing a reinstall as I can recreate everything I need on the box. Any pointers in this area would be most helpful.
    Regards,
    James

It should. You probably won't need to download anything from nVidia either, what's included in Solaris 10 x86 10/08 will probably suffice for most uses.

  • Satellite P300-19P won't display 1,440 x 900 in Win7 64bit.

    Does anyone know why my Satellite P300-19P won't display 1,440 x 900 in win7 64bit.
It's highest display is 1360 x 768 which leaves a gap of about 1/2 inch at the top and bottom of my screen.
I had full res on XP but not on Win 7.
The drivers are up to date.
    Anybody know why?

Im not quite sure about the difference between Vista and Win 7 ATI catalyst but it could be possible that some options are not present in different Catalyst options.
However, the available display resolution depends on the graphic driver.
I think the gap at the bottom and top o the screen appears due to 1360 x 768 resolution.
Its to small because the native resolution of this 17 TFT is 1440 x 900.
What happens if you would not install the ATI driver but would use the common Win 7 graphic card driver?
I installed Win 7 on my notebook and I didnt install graphic card driver because graphic chip was recognized automatically and all resolutions were available.
    Check this.

  • Satego X200 - XP Display Driver (Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT)

    Hi,
finally I managed to install XP on my 2. HDD - beside Vista (in order to get rid of Vista later).
What I still need is a suitable display driver, since Toshiba offers only one for ATI.
I found many posts with similar topics in the www (laptopvideo2go, Nvidia, etc), but no suitable driver so far. Nvidia doesn't support Toshiba drivers directly.
So I asked Toshiba for a solution and mentioned that a beta-driver might help as well since I don't need high grafic performance on this machine (no 3d stuff and I won't play games here) it should simply work ;-).
They answered very quickly and provided a link to a not-signed _Satellite_ X200 driver. Unfortunately that driver leads to the same result (similar to: "Hardware not supported ...installation terminated").
It would be great if anyone had an idea

    @jaba & @Horwath
I asked Toshiba Germany again if and when they'll make an XP driver available. Their answer was quite clear - and disappointing: "they can't actually tell" :-(
In the meantime I found a way to increase my grafic performance a little bit (while using the XP standard VGA driver) .
I had the problem that i.e. shifting a single window took some time because it goes nearly line by line (not really but that's how it looked like).
Therefore I reduced the hardware acceleration to "none" (don't know if this is the correct translation since I use a German MMI).
This helps a little - I wonder how long, I guess 'til my son installs his next game ;-)
I will follow your advice looking for 3rd party drivers but of course I'd still appreciate any further hint.
    Thanks so far

  • I need to connect my LED cinema display to nvidia quadro 4000 graphics card

I cant find any adapter to connect my "LED cinema display" to the brand new graphics card "nvidia quadro 4000 (for Mac pro)"
As i coldnt find any information since now, ihope someone can give me a hint.

They included the wrong DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort adapter.  The correct adapter should have a female Mini DisplayPort connector, not male.  You could buy the correct adapter or you could add a F-F Mini DisplayPort coupler

Try calling the, and asking for the correct adapter.  They fo say:
"Connect to mini-DisplayPort displays through the included adapter cable"

I note this morning that the graphics in 3D mode of iWork (version 4.1 with system 10.6.8) no longer appears in all software suite. The 2D graphics are displayed perfectly. I also notice I can't connect an external display when I am on NVIDIA card but work well with Intel card.
The 3D graphics are printed but not displayed on the screen (it also appear inthe thumbnail). It seems to be a worry to display.
I posted two screen images showing the problem of 3D in Pages.

  • T530 with 2 display adapters - NVIDIA NVS 5400M and Intel HD Graphics 4000 Drivers not loading

Both the Nvidia and Intel graphic drivers show in device manager that they have problem and can't load properly. I have tried uninstalling both they both reinstalled on a reboot with same issues. Is this hardware or corrupt drivers?? Or?

Failure progressed to a point where I could login remotely (GoToAssist) and see the screen but the LCD and External Monitor both were black.
Called tech support, they dispatched a tech (after 3 days, and a bunch of phone calls).  They replaced the system board and display board?  same problem.  Their answer was I needed to reimage the machine.
I found out that Windows had done an update.  We did a system restore to before the update (30 some updates) and restored the local displays.
BUT....both the NVidia and Intel HP Graphics devices in Device Manager indicate problems.  And this was after reinstalling the video drivers I pulled down from Lenovo.
Any thoughts on where I go next??  Lenovo has washed their hands of this problem....
I am about to wash my hands of Lenovo as a vendor for PCs.

  • Uninstalling Display Drivers Nvidia/ATI

I had a 8800gts installed but switched to a HD 5770.I've already installed the 5770 but havent booted into linux. My setup boots right into kde so im not sure if having nvidia drivers installed while i have an ati card installed will cause any problems.thx

If you're using nvidia's binary drivers, you should uninstall them first. Boot to console mode and remove the driver. Then install whatever ATI driver you need, either catalyst or one of the open source drivers. With the nvidia driver installed, I suspect that xorg will fail to start unless you at least remove /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf.

  • No display after nvidia driver install [SOLVED!]

    Hi guys,
Just set up my first install of Arch and I'm loving it. Just I have one Problem; I installed the Nvidia drivers as per the wiki for my nvidia 6800gt, but after changing my driver from "nv" to "nvidia" I no longer get any visual feedback from x; "Sync out of range" is shown on my monitor.
When I try to run glxgears I get the following error:
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
glxgears: Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual.
The thing is, I load GLX and double buffer visual in my xorg.conf file.
I am using the 2.6.10 kernel on an Athlon 64, msi k8t neo board.
    Thanks in Advance

Hey, by the way, for that 'glxgears' error you mentioned above, I forgot about this.  Read the bottom part.
Could that be part of the problem?  Are you using composite extension?

  • DISPLAY:=1 starts 800x600 with xgl [SOLVED]

    Hey,
I've got a strange problem, I'm trying to use XGL with SLIM. The xgl part of it runs fine, all the effects and stuff work, all I'm doing is calling
    exec startxgl 1 ati gnome
    in my xinitrc for SLIM.
The problem is that it always starts in an 800x600 window in the top corner of the screen. If I call it on DISPLAY:=0 like so
    exec startxgl 0 ati gnome
It starts at the proper resolution, but none of the effects work.... So I'd like to somehow get it to run on DISPLAY:=1 in the proper resolution... I think its just a config problem and not XGL...but I have been unable to find anything about setting resolutions for specific DISPLAYS:=X. Some how 0 is set properly. My xorg.conf is pretty simple...

  • Thinkpad T420 three monitors linux/nvidia optimus

    Hello,
I have a thinkpad T420 with a nvidia nvs4200 optimus. It has two video ports, one vga and one displayport. With optimus and windows 7 it should be able to display an two external and the internal display, in sum on three monitors.
In the bios I can switch between integrated, discrete, optimus. With discrete I am able to use two monitors. With optimus enabled, the Intel can't see the displayport.
Now the interesting thing. I installed bumblebee and it works. For curiosity I set it up to use the monitor "DP1", et voila, after running the bumblebee deamon and something with optirun I can see the bumblebee X server on the third monitor connected to the displayport. I can run something on it with "DISPLAY=:8.0 gvim" or even "DISPLAY=:8.0 nvidia-settings". Btw. it uses the same mouse as the first X server.
Now, any ideas how I could setup it for something useful?
    EDIT:
Ok, with Xdmx it is possible to span a desktop using all three monitors, but with disabled glx, that means no composite, 3d etc.
Setup to test it, assuming a running bumblebee installation:
    pacman -S xterm xorg-server-xdmx
    echo "exec /usr/bin/optirun /usr/bin/xterm" > ~/.xinitrc
    sudo /etc/rc.d/bumblebee start
    startx -- :7
    -in xterm run
    startx /usr/bin/xfce4-session -- /usr/bin/Xdmx -display :7 -display :8 +xinerama -noglxproxy
Until someone has an idea how to enable glx, this setup is hardly useful.
    Gruß, Georg

I managed to get 3 monitors working on my T420 with a Lenovo Mini Dock Series 3 Plus. Have a look at my xorg.conf below. Please note that with my T420, the DVI ports on the dock are (probably) hardwired to the nvidia card. The VGA might possibly be, as you said, hardwired to the intel card, whereas the DisplayPort might be hardwired to the nvidia card. So you'd need to power two screens (VGA + internal display) using the intel card and one screen (DP) using the nvidia.
