30 gb iPod/no video playback:-(

I've tried "resetting" the unit by holding down the "menu & center button" and still no playback. I've rebooted the computer...didn't work. I even tried changing the playlist (i.e. taking the video off the iPod and then reloading it)...this didn't work either. The video/tv show(s) were purchased from iTunes and it used to work. I'm currently running the 7.7.1 (11) version of iTunes and I just checked for software updates... there were none. any other suggestions? I sure hope so:-(

You have to add the artwork yourself.
Here are a couple of methods.
First off, make sure you have "show album art" enabled in iPod options.

Go to Google Image Search and type in the artist/album name and click on search images.

Double click on a picture you like, then at the top of that page click on "see full size image".

When you get that image, simply copy/paste it into the space for album artwork in iTunes.

Make sure you select the album in the browser of iTunes before you copy/paste.

You'd be surprised what Google Images can bring up. There are literally millions, and even obscure album artwork can be found.
In the unlikely event that Google can’t find an image, you can also get artwork from Amazon.
If you’re happy using images from Amazon, and don’t want to copy/paste, then iTunes Art Importer is a nice free program to do it for you.

  • Itunes/Ipod Touch Video Playback Problem

    Hi all!
I am asking all you Ipod guru's for some help and insights, as I am getting slightly frustrated...
    Background:
For a project at work I am trying to set up a video podcast feed with video's we have created for our customer.
The idea is that everyone at upcoming management conference will receive a Ipod Touch, with some easy explanation on how to -through a feed- download all our video's for them.
For that purpose I have set up a testfeed (checked and doublechecked) to get the videos into Itunes.
The feed works, the channels and videos show up under Podcasts and the videos are playable in Itunes (latest update) with no problems.
    Now the problems start:
When I connect an Ipod Touch, check manual syncing (I don't want to touch what is already on there), and drag the videos to the Ipod, the videos only show up under the 'recently added' category. The channel does not even show, and even though they are videos.
I can play the videos from there in Itunes, and they work fine.
When I eject the Ipod, and then want to watch the videos, I have to really search for them: they are under Music (!!), under 'recently added', and only play the sound, not the video (although the first frame of the video is shown).
To try and circumvent the problem I directly imported the video into Itunes, instead of through the feed (although that totally negates the whole idea to begin with), the videos nicely show up under the Video category in Itunes.
When dragged from there to the Ipod, all works. As I then want to see those newly added videos on the Ipod, they NOW promptly show up in the video category, and play perfectly, with image and sound, and fullscreen.
So, the problem is not with the video itself. What am I doing wrong?
(nothing has changed in the videos at all from the beginning of the process, the videos were already Ipod-ready)
Any thoughts, where do the problems originate? Can I do something in the feed already, or...?
Any ideas will be most welcome!
Thank you very much in advance.
    Peter
P.S. it's also impossible to delete the uploaded video's that ended in the 'recently added' category

Since I've read similar threads on this, I have to think it's a bug.
What if you create a playlist in iTunes with the Podcast's name on it?
I can't really think of any other way around this until it gets fixed.
Oh, and send Apple feedback on this issue - it will help bring it to their attention.

Glad to meet a good samaritan!
I contacted a moderator and was told that you should
contact AppleCare (US number is 1-800-275-2273). They
will contact the owner (as long as the iPod is
registered and information is current) so that the
    iPod can be returned.
Thanks for the advice... Looks like it's going to work

  • Video Playback (Jerky)

My iPod classic 160 sometimes slows down when playing a video. The sound continues without a hitch but the video slows down to a crawl then catches up to where it should be. Does anyone else have a similar issue with their iPod and video playback?

I have the same problem occasionally (< 5% of the viewing time). There seems to be no pattern to when the picture starts to freeze while the audio continues normally. I have about 110 GB of videos on the i-Pod with about 20 GB of free space.
I just assumed that the processor was maxed and the iPod just bogged down. Open to any suggestions though.

  • IPod 5G Freezes during Video Playback

iPod freezes during video playback. Does anybody else have this problem?
Usually freezes up about 10 minutes into a video, and then complety locks up. This usually requires 2 to 3 restarts untill it comes back working properly.

Mine does the same. It really only happens to me when I try to navigate thru menus when video is playing. I usually have to do a forced Reset. I truly think that introducing video on the iPod was not ready for primetime as it is very sluggish, buggy and sensitive during playbabck of video. No problems with music whatsoever but I am frustrated with the very finicky video qualities of this thing.

  • Video playback issue with 3rd gen iPod Touch

    Hi all,
I just recently discovered an issue with my iPod touch 3rd generation video playback. The issue just reared its head today and I have no idea what I could've done to cause it. It's a small issue but frustrating enough to cause a problem.
If I watch a video normally (by opening up the Videos section and picking it), it'll play through to the end, then start over again, then stop. This only happens if I choose videos randomly, and doesn't happen if I play videos in a playlist.
    What could be the issue?

I'll second that. I've been having the same problem since the last software update

  • Ipod 5.5G hangs on ANY video playback

I've seen references to this various places, but so far no cure.
My iPod will not successfully play any video, including any video obtained from the iTunes store. Any attempt leads to a black screen, no audio, and frozen controls. The only way out is to reboot the iPod. No video or sound on the internal screen or when connected to a TV.
As far as I know, everything else works as advertised. Never any problem with audio-only playback.
Things I have already tried (but thanks for thinking of suggesting it):
-- I have tried all 3 settings for "TV out".
-- I have reset the iPod about 17 times with Apple's 5 Rs.
-- An Apple "genius" said I needed a new hard drive. Although that sounded like nonsense to me, I did it anyhow.
-- I tried the little test for video conversion at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1211. iPod hung on playback of both the original and the converted versions.
Most or all of these same video files play just fine on the same iPod running RockBox software.

Perform a "reset" on the device by pressing down and holding the home button and the sleep/wake button for up to 30secs. until you see a black screen with the Apple logo, then release.
Then test to see if it solved the problem.

  • Video Playback Problems (iPod Classic 120GB)

Hi! I recently purchased my new iPod Classic 120GB but I'm encountering problems regarding video playback.
I downloaded a *music video* from the internet, and the file format is *mpeg video*. I then purchased an iPod Video Converter and thus changed the file to the appropriate one in order to play it in my iPod.
I played the music video first in my iTunes to check whether the video has any problems, but there was none, and it wasn't corrupted. As for my other videos, I have used the same iPod video converter and they were all fine. I then transferred the music video in my iPod.
Problem is, the quality was good and everything, but there are some *slight glitches in the music video*. There wasn't anything wrong with the audio, but with *some of the scenes* in the video itself. I then replayed it, then the *glitch transferred to another scene in the video*.
I then removed the said music video from my iPod, re-converted it, replayed it in my iTunes, then transferred it to my iPod, but the same video still has the same glitch.
So far, I have transferred 10+ music videos in my iPod and they all worked just fine, but I have 6 other music videos that are encountering the same problem with playback.
Does the problem lie with my iPod converter, or in my iTunes, or in my iPod itself? I would like to know.
I would really appreciate some help with this! Thanks!
    For additional information:
    iTunes - latest version 8.1
iPod - recently bought, Classic 120 GB
video converter - Allok Video to iPod converter
video itself - mpeg format, 204 MB

unfortunately its hard to tell where the problem lies... it depeneds on what type of glitch you are talking about. i really hope you didnt actually pay for a video converter... try "ipod video 9" which is absolutely free... top quality and VERY VERY easy to use!!! this program has never caused issues for me. if the issue is with your ipod it may be a delay in information transfer from your ipods hardrive. try defragmenting your ipod like you would your computer in the "my computer" window on windows, this does actually help your ipod read the information on its hardrive faster and should slightly--->drastically improve your ipods performance depending on factors such as how fragmented (jumbled) your files are, how many files you have on the ipod, the size of each file etc.
these are the only things i can think of!!! try both... see how you get on.

  • Why is the video playback on the 160 g ipod not as clear as the 80 gig ipod?

I recently got a new ipod 160 g classic. The video playback is not near as clear as it was on my 80 g classic. Is there some setting i have wrong. The video is washed out and has a yellow tint. I even replaced the unit, but it still looks the same.

Hi there, BDAqua, and thanks for the reply.  I just tried watching one of the non-DRM-protected videos in VLC, and I found that it glitched, too - but not in the same manner.  The glitch lasted for about two seconds and then self-corrected.
Checking my SMART status, it's verified, and I take that to mean that there were no issues.
I managed to catch an episode mid-stutter in windowed mode, and Activity Monitor had iTunes at 20.6%, considerably higher than anything else (all the other processes were in the single digits), but I had seen iTunes's CPU usage higher earlier - up to 27%, yet it didn't stutter at that point.
I have 4.55GB of free RAM and 510.42GB free HD space.  0 bytes of page-outs.  Actually, I've never seen it that low before, but I definitely suspect that's not the problem.
    Thanks,
    -Greg
    Edited: Corrected VLC test results.

  • Problem with video playback on Ipod

I am having a problem I hope someone can help me with. I was given a 30GB Ipod for my birthday. I am running Windows Vista on a 3GHZ machine with 3GB of ram. I downloaded and installed the latest Itunes and Quicktime. I have no problem syncing all my music files, those synced and play properly. When I had Itunes convert some videos I had and sync them, the Ipod does not playback the video correctly. I get about 1 frame every 5-10 seconds. The audio on the video is fine and sounds normal, just the video is freezing. I loaded itunes on my XP notebook and converted and synced the exact same video and it plays great on the ipod. It appears that itunes is corrupting the video during the conversion on my Vista machine. Has anyone else ran into this and if so what is the fix?? I called support and the gentleman told me he had heard of the problem before but said their database was down and he could not access the article. He was supposed to email me the article but I never received it. Thanks for your help in advance.
    Gary

Just an update, I think I may have found the problem, but not a permanent fix. I failed to mention I am running a raid striped array. I tried inserting a 2gb usb drive with my video file into the computer. I then went into itunes and changed the itunes directory to the USB drive. I then proceeded to have Itunes convert the file for ipod, synced the file and then it played properly on the ipod. I do not have a external drive large enough to hold all my videos. It is either a problem with the raid array or the fact the files are on the boot drive. Anyone have a fix so I can you my computers hard drives??????????
    Gary
P.S. Support still has not emailed me the article they were suppose to send. I have 7 days to return the ipod and if I do not get a answer back by then I guess I will return it for something else.

  • Best settings for ipod video playback on TV

I would like to know which video format is the best for a very good video playback on TV using ipod video ? And which settings choose for the video to have the best possible quality on TV, while still being able to store a lot of videos on the ipod.
I use a 1.67ghz powerbook, and the convertion process is so long, is it normal for it to be that long. I thought that powerbook were suppose to be really fast. Would buying more ram help ?
    thank you

If you're using QuickTime Pro's "Movie to iPod", then you're getting very good video quality. The reason why this takes so long is that instead of just compressing the video, it first examines the entire video looking for places that may be a little more difficult to encode (cross fades, cuts, high motion) then spending more time on them in the second pass. So, yeah, it's normal to take that long, but, in this case, that's how you get the best output.
Depending on your source (if it's from a VHS tape or something like that) you might want to download MPEG Streamclip and try H.263 or H.264 with only one pass. It's a bit faster and the results still look pretty good so that may suit you as well.

  • No Audio on iPod Video playback

hello, I've tried to resolve the problem myself by reading the boards and various "how-to's" but never really got a straight answer.
My concern was (like many others) a problem with video on my iPod. I had no problems tossing a video into my library and converting it to work with the iPod...it also gets thrown on the device with no problems what so ever. But, when i play the video back in my iPod...I dont hear the audio. Its just the video (it looks great so i have no problem with the quality) but...its just...silent lol. Thanks in advance for those who help out.

  • I just moved my itunes library from a win 7 computer to a win 8.1 computer. Getting an error message "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. Can't play CDs or get audio file from web!

Help! I just moved my itunes library from a Win 7 computer to a new Win 8.1 computer following the instructions on the itunes website. Everything is good except I'm getting an error message on the Win 8 computer if I try to play a CD or get an audio file off of the internet. I get an error message that says "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. I don't know where to look for or fix the audio configuration on the win 8 computer. As far as I can tell the iTunes configuration looks the same as on the other computers in the house. At this point I don't dare plug my ipod touch into the Win 8 computer for fear it will get messed up.

I have the same problem and I know that it is due to my PCI Audio driver not being compatible with WIndows 8.1.
iTunes isn't the only program that can't direct sound to the built-in speakers anymore. The obvious solution would be to update the drivers, but unfortunately Dell does not provide an updated driver for my model, so I am stuck with that.
However, saying that, only my laptop speakers are affected by this. I can use sound fine on applications where I can choose the output device and direct sound to the head phones, but for some reason iTunes does not let you choose the audio device manually.
To listen to music I imported the iTunes Library in Windows Media Player and changed the audio output using the following instructions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/c00d11ba
However, I would also like to rent movie's from iTunes,
Would be great if iTunes would let you choose the output device, too, like most other applications using sound  from Skype to Windows Media Player,...

  • Video playback stops and starts

I've never had this problem before but since I wiped my 5th Gen (late 2006) iPod Video and put new content on it the video playback keeps freezing for a second and then continuing. Most of the time the audio keeps going but sometimes they both stop and start again. It's very annoying. I don't see anyone else in this forum complaining about this. Am I the only one?
Anybody have any suggestions on how to fix this?

  • Video playback in mixed (video and music) playlists

How can I set a video playlist to play both the songs and the videos (not just the audio from the video)? My 5G ipod would allow both video playback and songs from the video playlist menu. On my 160g classic, I only see/play the videos on the mixed playlists from the video playlist menu.

The 3ivX codec is in your quicktime library folder, normally: root/Library/QuickTime, but I don't think, that Apple encodes their movies with an unsupported codec. Maybe there is another unsupported codec in your library that creates the iTunes-stuttering or the reason for your problem is completely different. I paste here the content of my library folder. If you have anything else in your folder, quit Quicktime Player and iTunes (if they are running) , remove the plug-in and try your movie again in iTunes. Hope, this helps.
