30 Gig color ipod is completely frozen

I've had this ipod since June. Yesterday I would try to play a song and it would just start skipping to the next song in the play list. Nothing would play. I would select a song and it would just move from one song to the next in the playlist until it got to the end and then go back to the menu screen. I thought if I connected it to iTunes that it would work out the problem. I connected the iPod to my computer and not only did the computer not recognize the iPod but now the iPod is stuck on the "Do not disconnect" screen and I can't even shut it off. I have updated iTunes and iPod software and rebooted my computer multiple time. I have tried to reset the iPod but nothing has changed. Anyone else experiencing these problems and if so, what is the solution?

I reset the ipod but itunes still won't recognize it.

I tried to plug my ipod into itunes for new music and all of a sudden its completely frozen it wont turn off, none of the controls work and my computer stopped reading it. Is there anyway to reset it or at least unfreeze it?

next time this happens, simply hold the menu and select buttons for six seconds until the apple logo appears. This is how you restart it

  • IPod Is Completely Frozen

I tried to download the newest update for the iPod, I downloaded it and it started to install. Then right when it was about to update it a box on my iTunes popped up and told me there was an unknown error. My iPod has frozen in the updating state (the apple icon above a loading bar) and will not turn off. I've tried holding the off button and the home button. When I plug it in to my laptop it doesn't connect and my computer doesn't even notice anything there. What can I do to turn it off, it's completely frozen.

Okay. So I have resolved this problem with my iPod Touch. I recalled that when I was in New York and had this same experience with an iPod software update at that time, all it took was connecting my iPod to a different machine with the latest iTunes installed and opened. The machine recognizes the iPod as in recovery mode, and does a restore and software update. Once that was completed, I then connected my iPod to the machine with my regular iTunes library, erased the sync from the other machine (you'll see a notice) and synced it with my regular library. Make sure before you sync that you have looked at each tab (i.e. music, applications, movies, photos etc.) to ensure that you that sync is checked.
Not sure yet how all the functions of the iPod work (e.g. volume slide, WiFi etc.) but at least the iPod is no longer a brick.

  • I connected my iPod to my computer.  It didn't recognize it and now my iPod is completely frozen.

I connected my iPod to my computer.  It will not sync and it has frozen my iPod.  What can I do?

Did you try to do a hard reset?  To do this, first make sure the hold switch is not activated, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Late 06 5th gen iPod classic completely frozen/unresponsive

I've never had a problem with my iPod before, but I was listening to it today in the car with my FM transmitter, and when I switched the song, it completely froze. It will not reset, when I put it on hold the little lock icon does not show up, my iHome won't recognize that it's plugged in, and neither will iTunes or my computer. I thought I'd just let the battery drain and then see what happened, but that doesn't seem to be happening either. Is this a lost cause, or is there anything I can do for it?

It may take some time for the iPod's battery to completely drain, so be patient with it.
As for the reset, I assume you meant holding both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear correct?  Be sure to try this troubleshooting more than once.

  • Ipod nano completely frozen!!

I have seen other messages with the same question. My screan is frozen and my backlight wont turn off.The battery wont even decrease. I have tried all the methods of restarting but nothing happens. I dont want to restore my ipod because there are songs on my ipod I dont have on my computer. Is there anything I can do????

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You need to reset the iPod by holding down Menu+Select for 6-10 seconds...
    Resetting iPod
It may take several attempts. The above link also has "tips" if your iPod does not seem to be resetting.
If you have tried many times and the iPod will not reset, you will need to wait for the battery to die. It should be dead well within 24 hours. (The battery indicator may be frozen too, so it will not show how much is left)

  • Ipod Touch completely frozen with white screen

My ipod touch is completley frozen with a grey/white screen. it will not respond to reset or restore, neither my pc or itunes recognise it when i plug it in. Anybody have any ideas other than contact apple directly? All software on ipod touch and itunes is up to date.

    - If the reset does not work, connct to comuer and if iTunes sees the iPod restore the iPod via iTunes.
    - Next let the battery fully draind and charge for an hour.. The try the reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
and connecting to iTunes to try to restore.
    - If the iPod still has the white screen then it is time make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
    - If the iPod is off se if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to se the iPod so tha you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • IPod Touch Completely Frozen

So I've spent a few hours on this and I'm at a loss with no progress.
My friend was given a used iPod which had some of the previous owners apps and such on there still. She was going to restore the iPod to clean it out but when the restore finished it had an error. iTunes told us to try to restore again so we did but it always caused the same error.
We updated iTunes and restarted the computer and tried to restart the iPod. This is when it kind of went from annoying to bad. Now the iPod is stuck off, no combination buttons for forced restarts will do anything, the screen just stays black. The computer seems to respond to that little process of holding the power button and the home button for 10 seconds because it will make iTunes try to connect to the iPod again.
However, since the iPod has been stuck off, iTunes no longer recognizes it, it just says it has detected an iPod but does not know what kind and to unplug the iPod and try again.
We tried to originally do the restore on her Vista machine, since then I've tried to hook it up to my MAC but to no avail.
Long story short, the iPod is stuck off and iTunes doesn't recognize it anymore, so is there any way to restore it?

Since you can't turn it off or reset it, I'm not 100% sure this will work - but it is worth a try. Start iTunes, hold down the touch Home button and while continuing to hold it, plug your iPod into your computer. Keep holding it until iTunes recognizes an iPod in recovery mode.
If that doesn't do it, time to let Apple fix it.

I have an ipod touch that continues to have a black screen with the white apple on it. It won't shut off and is completely frozen. This happened when we tried to restore it last night. Help please!!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
