30 gig iPod not found in My Computer or iTunes when plugged in

I just got this iPod the other day for a birthday present from my father. I immediately put some music and video on it and all was fine. I've had it plugged in a few times and it worked perfectly fine again. Last night I tried to plug it in again to put stuff on it and all that happened was the beep you get to let you know that something has been put in the USB. It is not shown in My Computer or iTunes, and there is no USB error balloon popping up. My iPod screen still says do not disconnect when plugged in and it still plays normally when unplugged. I do not know what to do to remedy this problem and I have tried many things and looked up and down the support section of the site, but to no avail.

Have you tried assigning your iPod a different drive letter? See these instructions below:
Log off of any other users on your computer (and disconnect any iPods that are currently connected to your computer, as well)
Then, put your iPod into Disk Mode, then follow these steps:
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, reset your iPod, and connect it.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:
Windows confuses iPod drive letter / Changing drive letter
If your iPod isn't recognize to assign it a different letter, or the above steps still don't work, then try disconnecting all other USB devices from your computer (other than your mouse and keyboard), and see if you can re-assign your iPod's drive letter works.
I hope that helps you.

  • Ipod not found on my computer or iTunes

Everything was fine till my brother came with his new iPod. Mine was not named . I just plugged in his and i've been asked for a name . I skipped and continue. Now my own iPod is not recognized by iTunes or my computer. I'm scared to ****. What do I have to do to find it back? Please help me

Nope, already did that multipule times, my comp reads my iPod fine, its in Device Mag. and Services, but it doesn't show my pod anywhere. "My Computer or iTunes" im just sick and tired of Apple and them being so..... Strict.... about whay you can do with the iPod. I think im just going to get a Vision M and I suggest that anyone else having major problems with their iPod do the same. T
he Vision M may put a dent in your wallet, but its a great investment and it's been dubed "The iPod Killer," and their right. My friend has beaten his up the wazoo and it's still in better care than my babyed iPod. Plus there are about 100,000 more things you can do with a Vision M than an unreliable iPod.

  • My ipod not recognized by the computer or itunes?

Ok, the iPod works fine playing music and watching videos and everything else it is supposed to, and it charges fine. But when i plug it up my PC to sync new music, the screen on the iPod does like normal and goes to the gray and orangeish screen that says Connected, then immediately says Disconnecting iPod and shows the little progress bar as if you had ejected it. How can it do this on it's own before anything has recognized it?
I have done everything that the Support on here has said, the 5 r's and all that, and nothing. Checked device manager on my computer and it actually says that is is plugged up and recognized, but has a yellow exclamation point beside it. The properties of it says this error...
"Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47)"
These errors occurred two days again until now, i have made no recent updates on my computer or iPod to have damaged anything but these problems randomly occur. it's really odd and if someone could help me it would be great.

Have you carefully worked through each and every suggestion in this Apple support document?

As I stated before it's not shown in my Computer and iTunes. I called apple supprt and they couldn't help me. At device manager it is shown under usb devices as iPod but with a (!) mark. When I dubble click it it says
"Driver for this device not installed (Code 28). Click on reinstall driver to reinstall the drivers for this device."
When I click that it searches and after a while I get a window wich says this:"
There's a problem with the installation of this hardware:
    [USB LOGO] iPod
An error occured while installing the device.
    The servicedatabase is locked.
Click Finish if you want to close the wizard."
But I did install all software (I got iTunes, Quicktime, iPod updater 2006-06-08)!
NOTE: It does work on other computers, atleast Macintosch didn't try any pc 'cause I don't have any but this one.

  • Ipod not recognized by my computer or itunes

Just picked up a 8gb nano today, and my computer and itunes will not recognize it. The ipod charged completely off of my USB port. I have tried all of apple's suggestions on the support site, but they have not worked for me. I plugged it into my roomates computer and it at least recognized it. Does anyone know the solution to my problem?

I justed switched computers and I found that I needed to unplug the USB Hub connected to computer. Then I connected my Ipod and it was recognized. After which I reconnected the Hub and all is well

  • IPod not seen in My Computer or iTunes

I found an iPod 5th gen. on the ground a couple of weeks ago, and I would like to use it but it doesn't show up in iTunes or in My Computer. It says "USB Device Not Recognized". I have tried using different USB ports on my computer. I have tried putting it in "Disk Mode" and that didn't work either. I have tried Re-Starting the iPod Service. I have an iPod touch already and have been using that cable.

  • Ipod not recognised in My Computer or Itunes

Just happened since updated to the new Itunes version, ipod works fine but it wont recognise it? any reasons? updated driver as per the support articles but nothing! really annoying me as so much downloaded stuff on there.

In my case the problem started with latest update (10.01.022). After the update I haven't been able to connect my Ipod 5G or my kids brand new Ipod Touch 4G.
I have removed Itunes and all other Apples software, reinstalled Itunes+Quicktime. I have disabled and enabled USB Mass Storage in Device manager. Tried with two different cables, 5 different USB-ports... Everything, but nothing helps.
I noticed also, that normal USB-memory stick doesn't work any more on my computer
We are not alone with this problem. E.g. google search for:itunes does not recognize windows 64 gives 72300 hits for last week only!!!!
It is obvious that the Itunes update has a bug, and I hope Apple comes with a fix asap.

  • IPod not being recognized by computer or iTunes

This is all of the sudden; I plug my iPod into my computer and - nothing.
I tried starting and stopping it through My Computer, upgraded iTunes, unplugged and plugged and everything, toggled the Hold button and still nothing. All my iPod is doing is charging.
    Thanks

    I HAVE THE ANSWER!
If you go into your device manager, is there a little red x or yellow exclamation point next to the necessary drivers?
Right click and select Update Driver Software.
Click Browse My Computer and enter in C:\Windows\System32

  • IPod not showing in my computer or ITunes

I have had my IPod video 30Gb since Christmas 2005 and have had no problems at all with it until now... The last time I connected it to my PC it just showed the battery charging symbol and it never appeared in ITunes. I am doubly confused because my husband has the identical model (albeit 3 months younger) and his still works fine. I have tried resetting my IPod, using a different USB cable/port, reinstalling software and nothing. I would like to try restoring my IPod but don't know how to do that if it isn't recognised by ITunes.
Has anyone else had this problem; if so how did you solve it?

  • IPhone 3G not appearing in either iPhoto or iTunes when plugged in via USB

No longer getting my iPhone 3G to appear as a device in either iTunes or iPhoto (my wife's iPhone 3G either) when plugged in to my powerbook's USB port or the second USB port on my Apple keyboard. Also the iPhone is no longer charging from these USB ports.
    Tried different USB cables.
Wife's iPhone on iPhone 3.0. Mine on 3.1.
Then tried using same USB cables to connect via her old flat panel iMac. it worked!
Then I tried plugging the iPhone USB cable into the other Powerbook USB port normally used by my keyboard.
    Nothing. Including no charging.
Looks like a problem with the USB connections on the Powerbook with the circuitry that connects to an iPhone. The keyboard works fine in either of the USB ports. And the USB ports on my 20" screen that connect to at least some of my external drives also seem to be working. They appear on my desktop.
Is the internal circuitry on the Powerbook USB ports such that some external devices can remain supported while other USB devices are not recognized?

  • Ipod not getting recognized by computer or itunes

    okayyyy
so after my ipod wiping i connected it to my pc
    and it was like
the ipod's in recovery mode you've got to reformat etc.
so i clicked the reformat button but my internet didn't work
so i switched pc's to my brother's (same op system)
but then the ipod wouldn't be recognized by his pc
(even though the connected, do not disconnect screen came up)
so i tried updated his itunes 7 to itunes 8,
but itunes 8 wouldn't open 'cause it says windows can't install it.
does that mean the pc's too old or something?
and what other options do i have to make the **** ipod work?
(and making internet work on my pc isn't an option)

  • IPod not displayed under My Computer or iTunes

i recently downloaded an album off of itunes and wanted to sync it with my ipod. however when i connected it to my computer, the "do no disconnect" display was not shown, and it also not recognized when i looked in My Computer. I made sure that all USB drivers were up to date and enabled. The only thing it does is light up, as if it were charging (however there is no charging symbol above the battery meter). I tried connecting my ipod to another computer, and everything worked fine, so i has to be my computer. what should i do?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
