30 gig Video Died

I have a new 30 gig Video iPod 1 week old, and it was working fine. I plugged it in to download some music and the compter did not see it and the screen on the iPod went dark and started to make clicking sounds, like it is spinning up. It will not reset. I have tried plugging it into the other 2 Macs in the house and nothing. Any thoughts on why this would hapeen and how to reset my iPod? Thanks

  • Video died on my MacBook Pro, question on Time Machine

    Hi -
The video died on my MacBook Pro (2007 - after some research I see there was a recall on it due to a manufacturer's defect). I hadn't backed up in a few months - so would like to back it up before I take the computer into the store. I have mounted the MacBook Pro on another computer by pressing Option + Power and all seems fine on the hard drive. I did try to run Time Machine though, and the computer doesn't seem to recognize that it has backed up on this same drive previously - it wants to back up the entire computer. Is there a way for the MacBook Pro to recognize the firewire drive and run Time Machine as it did before? I am running  OS 10.6.8
    Thank you!

I had done that as well (used Carbon Copy Cloner too! ) but I was concerned in the case I had to buy a new computer with a later OS (and being unable to mount the old drive/OS on the new computer to transfer the data - I ran into that issue earlier) - but I see now there is also a Migration Assistant that can help with that if I do indeed have to buy a new machine. Thank you!

  • Loading DVD's on 80 gig Video Ipod

We got a new 80 gig Video Ipod for christmas and want to load our DVD's. We tried down loading a software that didn't work. Can someone make recommendation of an easy software that works, and since I am not real computer savvy any detailed instruction would be appreciated.

There are plenty of good free programs out there. Here is a link to a discussion on just that free programs for mac and windows. http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=123067
You really do not need to pay for a program and if you do choose to do so consider another product then the one from that is recommended by Spammers... that would be cucosoft. They are all over these threads. There are also some great pay programs out there. But again, try the free ones first. Then if not do a search and you will find many, many pay programs out there from companies far more reliable then the one recommend by the SPAMMER on this thread.
Also another free program that works well is this one:

  • 30 gig video i-pod i-tunes 8 update?

I have a 30 gig video i-pod and recently downloaded i-tunes 8. i expected i-pod software to be updated with features like Genius and Cover Shuffle when i synced but it hasn't happened - am i doing something wrong or am i expecting too much from a 2005 i-pod?!

if you have a friend who is having the latest ipod with Genius, cover flow etc. , extract firmware binary(.bin file) from his ipod and try loading that to yours, even SAVE your firmware(if anything goes wrong).
this may not display the songs in you iPod (even though it is in the Hard Disk of the iPod.) . so the better advice is of copying all the songs in your ipod.[by copying the ipod_control folder(this is hidden)to your any of your computer's HDD]. after that open itunes , delete all the stuff in your ipod ,eject it and then connect it again. now the folder you had taken as backup (ipod_control) drag and drop it to your ipod.
now your ipod is the latest one with all of your songs back.
This sounds like a recipe for disaster. Changing the firmware binary with one geared toward current models would likely leave someone with a glossy metallic brick.

  • FROZEN 60 GIG Video iPod

I have a brand new 60 GIG Video iPod. The iPod froze during the import of new music and video files. The display has the "Do not disconnect" icon and label shown in the display. Attempting to reset the iPod using the instructions from Apple's support site for iPod issues - the five R's, the iPod will not respond to any of the options provided. Is there another solution to reset the iPod or is this one just destined to be replaced under warranty?

  • New 80 gig Video iPod and Handbrake problems

I just purchased a new 80 gig Video iPod. I took one of my DVD movies that I own and used Mac The Ripper and DVD2One to get it onto my Powerbooks Hard Drive. I then used Instant Handbrake to make it iPod ready. It loaded fine into iTunes 7 (with the newest updates) and also played fine from within iTunes. When I went to sync it up with my new iPod iTunes gave me a message stating that this movie is not the correct format for this iPod. So I then tried using the full version Handbrake and got the same message. I know that either of these should work because I set a friend up with these same programs and we put his movies onto his 5th Gen 60 gig iPod without any problems. However, I researched iPod video conversions for the new iPods on the Apple website here and learned that there is a feature in iTunes 7 under advanced, when you highlight a video, you can go under Advanced and click on Convert Selection for iPod. Is this something that I'm going to have to do everytime, or does someone know an easier way to put MY DVDs into iTunes for my new 5th Gen 80 gig Video iPod? Please help because this process takes waaaaaaayyyyyyy tooooooo long!

It all depends on what your target settings were and whether or not you were attempting to incorporate Baseline LC Profile features into your movie. Basically, if you use the H.264 codec at VGA resolutions or with video data rates which exceed 768 kbps or wish to include chaptering, then you will have to use QT Pro v7.1.3/iTunes 7 conversion (or the latest version of ffmpegX or ViddyUp!) to create an LC iPod compatible file. (MPEG Streamclip and probably HandBrake programmers are still working on their LC upgrades.)

  • "White Screen" error after most recent update 60 gig video iPod

I just received the most recent iPod updater software. I installed the updater and ran same. After the update process my 60 gig video iPOD cannot be recognized by my MAC G5. It has a "White Screen" and WILL NOT turn off! When I attempt a reset it simply gives me a 2 or 3 tone beep (I've never heard the tone before). The screen goes dark and it reboots to a white screen. I've re-installed updater and iTunes. I've switched USB ports. I've shut down the computer as well as rebooted same. I've allowed the iPOD to fully discharge (which happened quickly since the screen will not blank). When the unit is plugged into the USB port it charges and the white screen reappears. The updater now refuses to see the iPod so I cannot reset to factory defaults. Any ideas?
The idiots at Apple instituted a 24/7 chat tech support line for iPod shuttle owners. The guys like me who paid the big bucks for their best product get stuck out in the cold! Apple's whole tech support schtick is barely one step ahead of Dell's! The charge premium prices for their product and I like Apple a lot, but their demand that you be either an Apple Care customer or .MAC user to get even rudimentary support *****!

Ok, for all the others out who experience this problem....I spent about an hour on the phone with Apple. You have to go to their SECOND level of support to get an answer. But there is a fix.
If you have a white screen and the unit beep 3 times after a reboot here's what you need to do to fix the problem. Warning all you data will be lost. It will have to be downloaded via iTunes again!
Disconnect the iPod from the computer. Hold the Select and Menu button down for about 7 seconds to until you get a beep. Then hold down the Select and PLAY button for 10 seconds. This will put the unit in hard disk mode. Wait awhile until the Apple screen goes away and if you get a progress bar wait until it is gone.
At this point it will take some finagling, but you basically hook the iPod back up to the computer and do a RESTORE. The iPod should be recognized by iPod updater. Your data MAY still be in place, but if you do not do a restore to factory defaults with the updater you will get the white-screen-three-beeps-problem again.
Once you reboot into the language screen you can reconnect the iPOD and download your data from iTunes.
I complained this info SHOULD be posted online. They guy was very nice and agreed but said that engineering was still collecting data. He thought it was a dumb idea not to post online or allow the first level support guys to fix the problem.
Hey Apple...if you read this how about collecting data on your goddamned time and at your expense. You're the SOBs that collected $399 for the product! Ever seen the Comcast or AOL video on YOUTUBE? You guys could be next!

  • 60 GIG VIDEO FREEZING WHEN EVER I PLUG IT INTO I TUNES

When ever I plug in my 60 gig video itunes freezesup.I have a 30 gig and itunes works fine when its pluged in.HELP!thanks in advance

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 30 gig video, podcasts crash the ipod with iTunes 7.0.1

has anyone had their ipod crash only when playing podcasts? short podcasts are fine, but 50 minute or more, crash and restart the ipod. playing music is fine.

I have noticed two things with my 30 gig Video Ipod since i updated the software thru iTunes 7. First all my podcasts syncs that are happening with Album artwork are crashing the iPod and making it restart and the second is that it has also affected some songs albeit selectively. I tried turning the album artwork off and only once did one of the five podcasts i downloaded did work!
All the Podcasts or most of the ones that I had downloaded before iTunes 7 updater for iPod do tend to work but there is no pattern.
The reason I love apple and my iPod is the sheer magic of podcasts that are my companion and daily dose of caffeine en route to work...and I hate to get any glitches.
Can somebody walk through the step by step procedure to correct this or does one wait for another update from Apple?

  • 30 GIG Video iPod, Video Options not available - Please help!

    Hi.
I have a 30 GIG iPod Video 5th gen, with the latest iPod updater software installer on it.
But when I look at the iPod preferences, when it's plugged in via USB, all Video options (manual vs automatic etc) are all greyed out and not available for selection.
And I can't drag any videos onto the iPod (even with the right video format!).
It's like the iPod itself doesn't recognised that it is an Video one, like it has a complex and can only deal with music and photos.
Can anyone help or offer advice?
    Anyone had a similar problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your help guys.
Even with the iPod set to manual, I couldn't drag iPod format videos directly onto it.
Did a factory restart, and it has fixed the problem.
And just a note; the options in the video tab will always be greyed out, when the iPod is set to manually update songs.
    cheers!

  • 40 gig video from my camcorder becomes 117 gigs in iMovie

I have a Cannon Vixia HG20 with about two hours of HD video on it. It's only taking up 40 gigs of my camcorder's hard drive. When I tried to import these videos to iMovie, I found out that the Movies\Movies Events\ folder became a whopping 117 gigs. How does a full length 2 hour DVD movie from the store fit on a DVD but my 2 hour of video take up 117 gigs? Am I importing these videos wrong? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

    keyword: codecs
    • you camera uses highly compressed AVCHD.
    • for editing purposes this HAS to be converted into an intermediate codec
    40-60GBs/h
    • a video DVD has a) not HD, b) a plaayback only codec ~2-4Gigs/h

  • IPod reports 3.5 gig video loaded, but I a have no video synced to it (according to iTunes)

I have combed thru everything I have set to sync to my nano, and confirmed ther eis NO video being synced, yet the summary shows 3.5 gig of video is loaded on it. That's a lot of space I would like to reclaim.
    Any ideas?

Make sure the Sync Videos option is not ticked from under your iPod's Movies tabs.  If you have to disable it, hit the Apply button in the lower left hand corner to update the changes to your iPod.
Otherwise, if nothing else, restore your iPod to factory settings and start from scratch.
