30-inch Apple Cinema Display on Mac Mini 2010

I recently went around to look for a 30-inch Apple Cinema Display. I found out that if I use it with the new Mac Mini 2010, the resolution is somewhat pixelized. From what I know the Mac Mini's Mini DisplayPort supports for up to 2560-by-1600 resolution.
Base on the 30-inch max resolution, its 2560 x 1600. Did I get this right?

Did I get this right?
Yes, if you're using a dual-link DVI adaptor. If you're using a single-link one, the maximum resolution on a 30-inch display is 1280 by 800.
If you're using a dual-link DVI connection at the correct resolution, check the Zoom setting in the Universal Access and Keyboard & Mouse panes of System Preferences.

  • 30 inch Apple Cinema Display-system prefs not showing native resolutions

The 30 inch Apple Cinema Display, seems to be working fine with the mac pro, but when I try to hook up the 2009 mini, the display preferences do not show the mini's native resolution of 1920x1200.  The maximum it shows is 1280x800, and only gives a few other choices.  This mini had once been attached to a TV monitor, so I am wondering if that has something to do with the lack of choices in the system preferences.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the system preferences to display the correct info so that I can adjust the resolution ?
    Thanks

Being compatible with the 24-inch Cinema Display and being able to use it at resolutions higher than 1280 by 800 doesn't necessarily mean that it can drive the 30-inch Cinema Display at its full resolution. You need to use a dual-link DVI connection as stated above.

  • Is the 24 inch Apple Cinema Display the best choice for Final Cut Studio 2

I'm about to order a Mac Pro and Final Cut Studio 2 and have a question about monitor choices.
Is the 24 inch Apple Cinema Display the best choice are there non-Apple monitors that will do as good or better job with HD editing and output?

COMPUTER MONITORS bear very little on HD editing and output...especially output. They are just the monitors you use to look at your clips and your timeline. THey work for SD and HD. You really only use them to, well, as I said, see what you are doing. It would be nice to have GOOD ONES so the image looks decent. I use the Dell 24" monitors. The current one is the 2408. Nearly half the price of the Apple 23" displays...and really, the only Apple 23" that exists connects via their new connector, so you need a new MacPro or MacBook pro...or some adapter, to get it to work. And they are not worth the extra money, in my experience.
    Samsung monitors are also good.

  • How to connect a 23" Cinema display and mac mini to an AV Receiver?

I am trying to get my 23" Cinema display and Mac Mini to a Yamaha RX-2700 AV Receiver. I am on first name terms with the guy in Maplins because I tried to get an Xbox 360 working with this display before and gave up in the end.  The AV receiver has upscaling capability so I thought I'd try again.  I tried connecting a HDMI - DVI adapter to the HDMI Out on the receiver and a HMDI to DVI cable from the Mac Mini to the HDMI in with a optical cable for the sound.  The sound works fine but I get no display - the LED on the monitor flashes three times with a blank screen so it can't read the signal.  Another option suggested was to use a VGA Converter connected to a VGA - HDMI cable but I would like to find out if that would work before going down that route?
I am looking for some advice about whether this type of configuation is possible with the 23" ACD and if so what do I need to buy to make it work?  I love the quality of my ACD to avoid having to replace it with a TV to get my multi media life in order.
    Many thanks

  • Max resolution of '30 inch Apple Cinema Display'...?

When I connected 30 inch Apple Cinema Display, model M9179ZM/A, to an ATI Radeon X850 XT graphic card, I have failed to get higher resolution than 2048 x 1538 althought this graphic card is listed in the Technical Specification at www.apple.com/displays/specs.html as an appropriate card for driving this monitor.
Plese could anybody tell me where a mistake is?

  • Connect Apple 17" Display to Mac mini?

I am hoping to get rid of my old (ish) 17" Apple Display to a friend who has a Mac mini but not sure if they are compatible. I'm sure there must be some kind of connection but don't really know what to look for!!

No, that adapter (and the many others like it) are for connecting a DVI display to an ACD port on a video card such as used on many G4 and G5 powermacs, amongst other systems.
To use an Apple studio or cinema display with ADC connector with a system which has DVI output (such as the mini), it's necessary to use a device such as Apple's part number M8661LL/B, which is typically $99, but if you search, can sometimes be had for a little less from some suppliers.

  • 5770 with 27" Apple LED and two 20" Apple Cinema Displays w/Mac Pro

As stated, I just bought a brand new Mac Pro 8-core (2010 ID 5,1) with a 5770 card and I'm trying to hook up a new 27" Apple LED and two 20" cinema displays. One of the 20" monitors is using the MDP adapter into the 5770 and the 27" is directly connected to the other MDP port. When I try to hook up the other 20" to the DVI port on the 5770 I get nothing. The screen is black and the it is not recognized as being connected. I'm using the standard DVI connector that came with the 20" direct into the 5770. To make sure it isn't a monitor problem, I switched out the 20" displays and both work using the MDP adapter but neither work plugging directly into the DVI port on the 5770. I believe the 20" monitors use DVI-D. (Is that correct?) So what's the scoop on getting blank screens when plugging into the DVI port on the 5770? Thanks for any help.

"• the 27" is directly connected to the other MDP port.
    • One of the 20" monitors is using the MDP adapter into the 5770.
    • When I try to hook up the other 20" to the DVI port on the 5770 I get nothing.
Note: If you are using an Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, only two displays are supported across the three ports.
If you are connecting three displays, any DVI displays must be connected to either the Dual-Link DVI port or must use an Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link Adapter.
You MUST use All "Active" or "Powered" Mini DisplayPort connector such as the Apple Dual Link, or you can only use two displays

  • Share cinema display between Mac Mini and MacBook Pro

    Hello -
I am keen to get an LED cinema display to use on my new MacBook Pro - but I share my study with my children - so want to give them a MacMini to use.
How easy is it two swap between the MacMini and the MacBook Pro ? I guess there is only one input in the LED cinema display ???
    Thanks in advance.
    Andrew

Interesting - I have the same idea: sharing a 24" cinema display between a Macbook Pro for myself and a Mac mini for my wife.
The only problem I see is that the display doesn't have any Firewire ports. So if I want to use an external harddrive (or a mini-DV camcorder) on both computers when connected to the display, then I'd have to plug that into the computer instead of the display ...

  • 23 Inch Apple Cinema Display

Recently I have had some difficulties with my cinema display.
    The Problem:
I power my machine on in the morning and my display will not launch. My monitor is not flashing any error code sequences at me. At times it takes anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes for my display to light up and show the desktop. I took the display in to the Apple store to have a genius look at it. After watching the genius plug the monitor in to 4 other computers (using the same power connector's I use at home) and work without any problems, we know it is not the monitor that is the problem.
I need to take the machine back in to have it tech'd, but I was trying to do some debugging on my own to see if I can determine the issue at hand. I have tried resetting the SMU on my Power Mac G5 (late 2005 model). The reset seemed like it worked the very first time I tried it, but since then I have been back in the same boat. I also reset the PRAM/NVRAM which did not yield any intriguing results.
I have noticed my monitor seems to show its display quicker if I do not attach the USB key to the G5 until the display is working.
I would like to know the following:
Anyone else have an issue similar to this? If so, how was it solved?
Could it be a power supply issue, or possibly a graphic card issue?
    Any debugging tips?
Specs: Power Mac G5 (late 2005), nVidia GeForce 7800 GT, 2GB RAM
    Power Mac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    Power Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

If you have the acrylic (clear) model M8536 or M8537 and you are using it with the ADC to DVI adapter, then you may want to question the adapter itself. If you are connecting it directly to the graphic card, then I would check the card. If your display is the aluminum (newer model) then I would think the graphic card is the problem, since the geniuses did not find any problems. I really don't think the display is at fault.

  • Connecting old 20'' Apple Cinema Display??

Will I be able to connect my existing 20'' Apple Cinema Display (model A1081) to a new 2.5GHz Mac mini using the enclosed HDMI to DVI Adapter? Or will I have to purchase a separate adaptor?
If it helps, the specs of my display are as follows:
    20-inch Apple Cinema Display
    model A1081
    Viewable: 20.1 inches
    1680 x 1050 optimal resolution
    16.7 million colours

I currently use the above display with a PPC G5; will I notice an increase in viewing quality if I use it with a new Mac mini?
    Many thanks.

Yes, it will work fine with the included HDMI to DVI adopter

  • How to connect a apple cinema display to an imac

I have a brand new 27 inch iMac. I also own a 30 inch  Apple Cinema Display.  What peripheral adaptor do I need to connect the display to my new iMac?

    Hello,
Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort-> Dual Link DVi cable...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-ada pter
A notable peculiarity of Thunderbolt is that it uses exactly the same connector as Mini Display Port, and that's not all. The Thunderbolt connector also carries Mini Display Port video signals. That means you can plug a Mini Display Port video cable/adapter in to a Thunderbolt connector and your monitor will work.

  • Do Window Vista Dirvers exist for Apple Cinema Displays ?

I am using a 23 inch Apple Cinema Display with a windows Vista box and noticed it is using a generic HD driver. Should I have a diver specific to the ACD? Do any exist?
    Thanks

I have one more idea that might help people. This is a theory on my part, so bear with me.
You can extract all of the files from WinACD and use just the INF files get your monitor to display at the proper resolutions. To do so, do an Administrative Install using the following command:
    msiexec /a <path to msi file>WinACD-0.4.6.msi
This will extract the files to C:\Program Files\WinACD, but not install the application onto the system. You can then go to:
Settings - Control Panel - Display
Click on Settings and then Advanced
Click on Monitor and then Properties
Click on Update Driver... and find the acdmonitor.inf file in C:\Program Files\WinACD\noarch.
Theoretically that should work. I cannot test the very last step for I have it working correctly already.
I will tinker with this on Vista 64 this weekend and see how to make it work. You should not have to do this with Vista 32. I had to turn of the User Account Control in order to be able to install it. With it on, WinACD says that it could not install because it was interrupted.

  • Xbox 360 + Apple Cinema Display... is it possible?

I was wondering if anyone knew if it would be possible to hook up my Xbox 360 to my 20 inch Apple Cinema Display. Microsoft sells a VGA cable at the moment.

"I thought i read somewhere that the 20'' apple cinema display is not HD like the 23'' and 30'' are. Is this true?"
The 20 doesn't get the 'HD' moniker because the vertical resolution is less than the needed 1080 for HD content. Both the 23 and 30 have more than 1080 lines.
    I suspect if the HD you're referring to is 1080i you'll need a 23 or 30.
