30" new display won't work on PC

Need help!!! Just purchased the HP D4999T PC, set it up and the Cinema HD 30" Display just shows a black screen. The power light is on, on the display and the computer is showing that the monitor is recognized. Attached an old Dell monitor and it works perfectly. The guy at the MAC store said it should work with the PC. What am I doing wrong. My graphics card is a 512MB Nvidia geforce 8800GT 2DVI. Please offer suggestions! Would greatly be appreciated.

Sr Speedy,
1. Well, the first 2 comments on this page might be of interest: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=14-130-220&depa=1 And, yes, I know it is not the exact same card.

Help please. Extended display won't work on MBP and AOC 20" 1600 x 900  60HZ monitor. Mirror display does. I've a mini dvd to vga converter cable. Should this work?

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...
Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys?

I figured it out. It wasn't easy. I took the keyboard battery tube apart. Photos are posted here:

I changed my e-mail address and password.  Went to purchase an app and the old e-mail appears, needless to say the new password won't work and I forgot old PW

All App purchases are tied to your email address, because that is your apple ID.    If you cannot access your old email account, you may lose those apps.  You can call apple for support and see if they can help you.

  • I have 2 macbooks, and my thunderbolt display won't work on one. HELP!

I have to Macbook Pros. The one for my work is connected to my Thunderbolt. When I tried to connect my personal one to watch a movie, it won't connect. I tried "detect displays" and "gather displays" - nothing.
    HELP!!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Note that the Thunderbolt Display can only work with Macs with Thunderbolt ports (Early 2011 and newer MacBook Pro). If your Mac is older, it won't connect to this display.
To check what MacBook Pro you have, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4132 If you have a Mid 2010 or older MacBook Pro, you can't use it with your Thunderbolt Display

  • External display won't work on Window

Hi can anyone please help me in this? when I using window XP, my external display won't display out but when I'm using MAC OS X it work well, why? please help... Thanks

I can only help if you are using an NVidia graphics card, as with that you can use the NVidia Control Panel to setup the external display.
    Connect the display
    Start NVidia Control panel
    Select the Display icon
    Then select Change Display Configuration
There you can set the resolution, extend the screen or create a copy et.c.
    Hope that helps...

  • External display won't work over DVI

I've got an ViewSonic vx2025wm hooked up to my MacBook Pro. It used to work fine over DVI, but some time ago the monitor stopped being able to detect the signal and I had to switch over to VGA (via my Apple DVI-to-VGA adapter). That works fine at the full resolution of the external display, but the image quality leaves something to be desired.
Strangely, the external display works just fine in Windows XP via Boot Camp. Oh, the irony!
Any ideas on how to get this working again? I dread the OS X re-install.

Same problem here. Had a Dell 30" monitor plugged in for a long time. Suddenly stopped working yesterday. The symptoms: the Mac detects the external display and "thinks" it's got it there (I can tell because the active content of the window is gone on the laptop's screen), but the display does not successfully see the output from the Mac (it shines its orange "no signal" light).
Restarting does not seem to help.
I should test it with a new display cable, but am a little reluctant to do this, as the dual link DVI cables required for this monitor are so expensive, and because previous posters on this topic have tried swapping cables with no result.

  • You want to downgrade because the new updates won't work? Read this.

First of all, I'm not any kind of techie person, I just have gone through this horrible experience of not being able to get into the itunes store at all after downloading the last 2 updates (7.4.2.4 and 7.4.3.1). Once I downgraded to 7.3.2.6 I was back in the itunes store downloading whatever I wanted. But, it was not all fun & games - the library file wouldn't work with the older version of itunes, and I lost all my playlists and had to reimport all my music. The second time I downgraded I did figure out how to save the playlists, but I still haven't figured out how to restore the itunes library file. If anyone has ideas about that feel free to post here.
I consider this a last resort if you really need to get into the store. Hopefully you have already tried other suggestions in other forums. If you do decide to try this, you should read everything first to see what you're getting into. Also, if you just bought a new ipod, it probably won't work with the older version. You should keep calling the apple support phone #.
The process isn't that much harder than installing an new version, although you need to uninstall 7.4.x first. *If you decide to try this I highly suggest you do a backup to disk first just in case.* Uninstalling itunes doesn't delete any of your music files, but it never hurts to have a backup. Go to File>Backup to disc.
By the way, this is assuming you're on Windows XP.
    First get ready:
    1. Go to File>Export Library. Save this file somewhere in your My Documents Folder, not the iTunes folder.
    2. Export each playlist you have individually by right clicking on the playlist and selecting Export songlist. Save these text files in the same folder as #1.
    3. Now, download the version of iTunes you want from oldapps.com/itunes.htm. I used 7.3.2 and it worked fine.
    4. While that's downloading start uninstalling iTunes under Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Remove Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, iTunes and QuickTime. Don't restart until all 4 are removed. (Optional, also run CCleaner - click the 'issues' button. This gets rid of a lot of little files that don't get removed in this process, but it's a little intimidating if you're not a techie person.)
    5. Now restart. After you're back up, click on the iTunes setup file you just downloaded. After it installs, when you open iTunes the first time, you'll probably see this error: "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." When you click ok the box closes & iTunes doesn't open.
Go into your iTunes folder (usually in your My Music folder) and remove this file - it will show up as iTunes Library.itl or maybe just iTunes Library. You could just delete it because you already have a backup from step #1. The other file, also called iTunes Library, is an .xml file that you can delete if you want.
    6. Open iTunes - it will look totally blank w/ no files. Don't panic! Go to File>Import and try to import the library you made way back in step #1. I'm sorry to say it might not work. If it doesn't, the next thing to try is to import an older version of the library file, which will be in the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder inside the iTunes folder. This also didn't work for me. So....
    7. If you couldn't get the library file to open, you need to add your music back in. I just went to File>Add Folder to Library and added my My Music folder. You could also try doing it from backup discs but that takes a long time; in either case, if you have a lot of music this will take awhile. Just let iTunes do it's thing.
    8. Now you can go to File>Import and select the playlists you created in step #1. This did work for me when I went from 7.4.3.1 back to 7.3.2.6.
You should be good to go! I hope this helps some people. If you have any questions you can post them, but I can't promise that I will have answers.
    meeshala

Hi - it sounds like you still need to move the library file, which is in step 5 of my original post; this is assuming you exported your library before you went back to 7.3 - if you didn't do that, don't delete anything yet - just try moving the itunes library.itl file onto your desktop:
"Go into your iTunes folder (usually in your My Music folder) and remove this file - it will show up as iTunes Library.itl or maybe just iTunes Library. You could just delete it because you already have a backup from step #1. The other file, also called iTunes Library, is an .xml file that you can delete if you want (actually, just leave the .xml file where it is).
"6. Open iTunes - it will look totally blank w/ no files. Don't panic! Go to File>Import and try to import the library you made way back in step #1."
Since I wrote that I've gone back and forth a couple of times, and importing the backup library file should work. If for some reason you didn't export your library, you can try importing the iTunes Music Library.xml file in your iTunes folder. It takes a really long time but this does also work.
If you were having the same 11333 error that I was, I was finally able to get into the iTunes store with 7.4.3 after installing certificate revocations lists as described on this page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306628
I think that's helped a lot of people - have you tried that? Of course, to do that you would have to reinstall the newer version to try it.
Please post again if you are still having problems with the library, but I think you should be ok!

  • Why Apple Thunderbolt Display won't work on BootCamp Win7 64-bit while being plugged to MBA?

    Hello,
I have MBA (latest) & installed win7 64-bit in BootCamp, I do also have Apple Thunderbolt 27" Display.
When I disconnect the ATD and re-connect it in Mac OS X, it works fine like a charm, but when I disconnect then re-connect in BootCamp, it doesn't work at all whatsoever, in fact, I have to restart my MBA (while thunderbolt is connected) to make it work in BC, this is the only way to make it work.
So, my question is; If I disconnected ATD in BootCamp then re-connected it, why it won't work?
I've googled everywhere about this issue, but no luck.
    Any idea?

to calculate how much video ram is needed one
    take
the vertical number of pixels and * with horisontal number of pixels and * with 32bit colour which is 4 bytes
so if it's the 13" macbook air
    1440 * 900 * 4 = 5.184MB for main display
    +
    2560 *1440 *4 = 14.75MB for second display
sounds like the intel hd 5000 would have that as dedicated memory even if the windows driver did not allow to use shared system mem as extra
could be a problem with the driver for windows
maybe a person who ran a setup like yours would have more to contribute with
my setup is an imac 21" with amd video card and a 24" dvi dell monitor and that works fine in windows so it's a different animal altogether

  • My new shuffle won't work with my operating system

I was really pleased to be given a new shuffle for my birthday, but it won't work with my operating system. I feel disgusted and cheated; I have been using macs for years and don't see why I should have to buy a new one in order to use a piece of Apple technology. It's not good enough to say that the operating system requirements are clearly stated, as the person who bought me the shuffle didn't know that. I am so furious that I am thinking of going back to pcs next time I buy. Apple really should get their act together, because various forums I have consulted suggest that a lot of other people feel the same.

    Feel better now?
We are all users here just like yourself so we cannot do anything for you besides making some logical suggestions to you. So if the person had bought you some 3rd party software that only worked with Leopard and/or Snow Leopard would by be just as furious? Just curious.
You don't have to buy a "new one" to use your new Shuffle, just upgrade your OS. Are you using a PowerPC or Intel Mac Mini? If the latter just go buy a copy of Snow Leopard, install it on your computer and download the latest iTunes. Problem solved. If it is a PowerPC look around and find and install a copy of Leopard.

  • Just upgraded to leopard and now new keyboard won't work

I just upgraded my system to Leopard, and everything went smoothly. When I installed I had my old keyboard attached as I didn't want anything to got wrong. Now since trying to use the new white key Mac keyboard that is out now, it won't work. I tried to go into preferences under keyboard and mouse but there was no choice there to change keyboard. What can I do?

Apple's download search function is pretty messed so that may not be the right file. The one that Software Update offered for my MacBook Pro when I had the Al board attached is "Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update" and is v1.0. It was in my Utilities folder.
I had to Google to find the other link, but it's here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/AluminumKeyboard_Firmware_Update_10
See if that helps. It looks like this and Leo go together, so could explain why you the board doesn't like the change.

  • New AE Won't Work With Old Verizon DSL Modem

I'm trying to set up a new AE station for a friend. She had an Airport station that worked fine. The DSL modem is like 6 years old or something. Of course I've tried calling Verizon, but am on hold forever. Is it possible the modem is too old? I've looked at ports, all settings I can think of, but nothing. I've set up as many as a hundred of these, so have some experience. Just hoping for some feedback 'till I talk to them. It's PB 12" with 10.4.3 running. It's brand new. When I put the old station back, no problem. Any help is appreciated.

With the old base station connected open Airport Admin Utility and "Save a copy as..." something. Connect the new one and import that configuration. If it is really old that won't work but it is worth a try.
Is PPPoE needed for the DSL connection?
Have you powered everything down and slowly brought them back (modem, AE, and computer)? Sometimes it takes a while for an ISP to recognize a new network device as valid.

  • My new iPod won't work with iTunes 6 but...

Is it safe to get iTunes 7 yet?
Because I tried it before but it made the music dodgy.
So I eventually got 6 back, but it won't work with my new iPod.
    Help?

I also had problems with iTunes 7 when it first came out, but 7.0.2 is working for me and seems to have fixed a lot of the problems. It's worth a try if you need iTunes 7 for your new iPod.

  • I have a cpu w/ 2 displays that I want to replace. Problem is, the cpu is a g4or g5, I can't remember. Can I buy 2 new displays that will work in this thing? it's got 2 24 pin ports.

I have a cpu that I need new displays for. Do they make an adaptor that will work with a 24 pin or do I need to buy a whole new computer? I work in Final cut and I really just want new displays, without replacing the whole system
