300 Effect?

How do I make the 300 slow down, speed up effect?

  • Effective Resolution and INDD display settings

    Hi Guys,
I recently have been getting some memory issues and issues exporting etc and wanted to know if my effective res is way above 300 thats causing the issues.
    now...
INDD shows Typical Display @ 72ppi correct?
so would an image with 300 actual and say 1500 effective (20% of original size) try to display on Typical at 360pp
    (1500/300)x72 = 360 (the image is 5x smaller than 100% resolution so is the preview 5 x 72ppi - 360ppi?)
is it making the image 72ppi @100% then scaling it down 5x to preview or is it scaling it down then doing the 72ppi preview conversion?
because images with a high effective preview alot clearer than images with 300 effective
and with over 140 images in my catalogue, would this extra processing be the cause of my errors on export and just chuggy previewing in typical mode?
so to simplify it a little
is this how the previews work?
    300 and 1500 @ High Quality
    72 and 360 @ Typical Display
    or is it like this
    300 and 1500 @ High Quality
    72 @ Typical Display
with the bold numbers being the resolution that indesign will display

Where can i turn off resample in indesign to test this out?
or do you mean the resample when I scale down the image in photoshop?
and is the general concensus that placing images and scaling them down is just bad design practice?
all images should be placed as near to the final output size as possible?
Resampling takes place in Photoshop. ID only scales, which is why you see the effective resolution.
In photoshop you can use the same pixels to create a really large image (physical dimensions) at 72 ppi, or a smaller phsyical dimension at a higher resolutuion. If you save at 72 ppi, the preview ID sees is essentially the same size as the image itself, while if you save at 1200 ppi the preview will be greatly downsampled (and will look like it in typical preview mode in ID).
As far as scaling in ID, my feelings are that scaling is OK when the reult brings you into the target range for your desired effective resolution (i.e. there is not a big problem enlarging a 1200 ppi image to get a 300 ppi effective resolution, or reducing a 100 ppi image to get 300 ppi effective) though a lot of people will tell you it's better do do the scaling in Photoshop (and I'm generally in that camp for high-end work) so you can fix the sharpening, etc. Ideally your images will be on your page within plus-or-minus 10% of the target effective ppi, but it would be better to be a little low than to upsample in Photoshop. Downsampling, whether in Photoshop or in ID at output will always cause some loss of fine details, and if the effective res is too high you WILL be downsampling at output, so nothing is gained by usingf images that are too large, and your performance will suffer.
If your desired resolution is 300 ppi and your effective resolution is 4500 ppi, you really should be resizing in Photoshop.

  • How do I get rid of the banding I see in Ai's gaussian blur?

There's banding in the gaussian blur, in Ai.
I'm new to Ai.  I created a logo in INKSCAPE, (an open-source free vector program), and the gaussian blur worked fine.  But the people that will carry the logo to the next step, use Ai.  When I send svg files, (or other types of files), from INKSCAPE, the blur didn't carry over.  So I'm trying Ai now... and I'm pretty upset.  Do you have a work-around for this?
I was directed here from a survey I was asked to take part in by Adobe.  The survey window gave me the impression I would be talking to the company... but I tend not to believe that!
When I tried to contact Adobe regarding the banding problem, I was only directed to the forum.  I was already there... and now I wanted to talk to the company.

Try increasing the raster effect resolution to 300 - Effects menu > Document Raster Effects Settings...
If that does not solve your banding issue, post the screenshot and sample file and little more detail on what you are doing.

  • SIPS: convert PDF to TIFF

I'm not sure whether this is the correct location for posting this, but anyway:
I want to convert a PDF to TIFF, using SIPS.
Unfortunately, and I think I understand why, SIPS cannot detect the resolution of a PDF, and defaults to 150 dpi.
So, when I want to convert a PDF of which I know that the images are 300 dpi, to a 300 dpi TIFF, SIPS interpretes the PDF and than scales it up to 300, effectively just doubling pixels and blurring the image.
Is there a way of telling SIPS that my PDF is of a high enough resolution?
I hope someone can help me here.
    Regards

  • I have had wireless issues sense Leapord, any fixes yet? its a shame that my wife has to sit in front of our 27 inch imac on a $300 Windows computer to use the web effectively. I have tried all fixes  and some work while others don't but all temporary

This Lion wireless issue has become more than just an irritation, so much so, my wife has resorted to sitting in front of a 27 inch imac with a 300 dollar Walmart Windows computer to get the bills paid and use the web. And yes, there is not a fix out there I haven't tried over the last year or so, some worked and some didn't, but all were temporary at best. Same issue with my Macair, I wonder if its a hardware issue, like the video card in my 2006 MBP, it went out after the warrenty and then I found out there was a calss action suit going on over it, unfortunately Apple wouldn't cover it and wanted 7oo bucks to fix it, sold that as parts.
While i really like me Macs, I own three, I may have to bow out and stick with LINUX, that has yet to let me down, anyone know if Mountain will fix this issue? or are we all just waiting for defective WiFi cards to fail at our own expense, PS, got three Macs for sale.

Sounds like you're getting kernel panics, which are usually, but not always, caused by hardware problems, with memory being one of the regular culprits.
First thing I would do is to get our your original OS X disks, insert the first one (should say 'AHT version x.x' in small print on the label - if not, find the one that does), and reboot holding the Alt key down. Choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted, choose the extended test. If you have either of the TechTool programs, they can do similar testing. Does that identify any hardware issues?
Next, I'd download rember from http://www.kelleycomputing.net/rember/ . This is a memory testing program that you can set to run overnight. Does it come up with any errors? If so, try resetting your memory card(s) by removing and putting back into the computer. Rerun memory test.
This FAQ will provide other details: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html

  • Preflight panel Info. shows my placed 300 ppi PDFs at much less effective resolution

Ï'm brand new to InDesign (graphic designer who primarily works in Illustrator, some Photoshop, until now). I understand resolution and PPI but not necessarily in-depth knowledge of the related necessary workflow needed within InDesign, if that makes sense. I've spent hours and hours the last couple days trying to learn the finer points of InDesign as I work on an ad magazine for my company, but I can't for the life of me figure this particular issue out, and I'm guessing (hoping!) it's a very simple solution.
I placed several 300 PPI PDF images in the magazine document (vector PDF's I created in Illustrator, saved as editable PDF's).
I created a Preflight Panel in InDesign with a custom Profile, named it Print Ready, and set image resolution to 250 to ensure as I finish up this magazine design that things are press/print ready. It now shows 5 images with Image resolutions lower than the 250 minimum - all of the pdfs I placed. They all show very low PPI, 74, 109, etc. The 300 PPI pdfs were already sized to the exact proportions they needed to be in the InDesign file and for print, so there was very minimal scaling to fit the images into their frames, so I'm assuming scaling couldn't have created this issue and it has something to do with my workflow and the way I'm bringing them in.
I'd like to point out that this magazine document was created by another designer, and I'm picking up where they've left off, adding some final images and copy. The other picture images she had in the file appear fine, no errors in Preflight Panel...even some preview stock photo's with the X's across them that appear to be very low resolution (we haven't purchased them and replaced them yet in this InDesign file), so not sure I understand why those are not showing up in my Image Resolution as errors??
Anyhow, at some point I came across the Document Presets, which is currently set to Default - and when I click Define, I noticed it shows the PPI at 72. Does this mean that files I place are "brought in" at 72 PPI, regardless if their original PPI is higher? And if so, how do I change that?
If not, how do resolve or correct?
Sorry for the very long explanation - just want to give as many details as I can, since I'm not exactly sure which details are important to figuring out the problem. Thanks in advance!!

I've checked the resolution in Photoshop just as a double-check and it shows resolution as 300 PPI. When you say "because they can be mixed" do you mean because elements and graphics with the PDF can be of varying resolutions? I hadn't thought of that, if that's what you meant. I do have some items within my pdf that might be lower resolution.
If these show up in my Preflight Panel as an issue, does this mean they would be flagged also with the Printer? In trying to find a resolution I read several forum discussions about how Printers often run your document through a Preflight process and will send it back when there are low resolution images in the document.
Is there some other way to be sure these images are in the InDesign document as 300 PPI so I can know they will in fact print correctly?
PS - Peter - thanks for the super quick response! And I saw your the highlighted "Exceptional Contributor" on the right sidebar for the InDesign forum - clearly well-deserved! Congrats

  • Help!  Ideas for displaying ~100-300 still images with After Effects / Premiere Pro

Hi, I am a cadet at a US Air Force detachment and am responsible for making this semester's end of the year video.
I have the Adobe creative cloud and am familiar with the basics of Photoshop, and Premiere Pro, and I am trying to also learn After Effects.  I have a large amount of picture and video, and am at a loss for how to quickly make all these pictures into an interesting slideshow.  Software such as Cyberlink Powerdirector had a "photo grid" which would allow me to create an automatic slideshow of images on a 3x3 grid, where each image flashed into place one at a time.  I am looking for automated processes or tutorials to feed my images into and have a modern effect of displaying the images.
If anyone has any idea for a template or where to start on handling a large amount of still images in After Effects or Premiere Pro, I could definitely use a point in the right direction!

  • How to create the "300" Movie Effect in FCP

Would be eternally grateful if someone could tell me how to create the 300 movie look in Final Cut Pro. I've scoured the Interwebs for a tutorial with no luck.

I think it's not as hard as people think, it just looks intimidating because there are no popup windows. Everything in the interface is on the top of the rooms. Just think if FCP had things this way...
I learned to use color in a class in Cupertino (I'm a certified trainer in Color and FCP) but gotta say, it's just not "Mac-like" in it's interface. It was originally written for Unix as was Shake, so they look similar... but they really aren't that hard to learn. The certified training course in Color is only a 2 day affair. I could teach anybody color on a one on one in one day. Doesn't make them a colorist just as learning FCP doesn't make them an editor... but the buttons? yep 1 day.
FCPs full training is 8 days for full level 2 certification, and even then, it doesn't cover everything you could do in FCP...
I teach a 15 week course in FCP and STILL don't have time to teach it all. So what's easier to learn? Color.

  • Warning: the document raster effects resolution is 72 ppi or less

How do I address / fix the issue that leads to this WARNING when saving my Illustrator CS6 file? All embedded images are 300 ppi.

    Kristen,
The warning has nothing to do with your images.
It is simply a statement that tells you that you have not set Effect>Document Raster Effects Settings higher than the default screen value of 72 PPI.
If you have no raster effects applied to your vector artwork there is no need to worry.
If you have, you should consider which value is suitable.

  • How to change color from default black in JS and still retain fade effect?

Hi, I have got some java script that fades in some text on loading. It is working but I cant seem to change the color and retain the fade in effect. Any ideas? I am using CS5.
I think it is something in here that needs changing?

    to this -
    if(col>90)

    Hello,
The percent values are translated in pixel values when the
effect is instantiated. The result is cached and later used in each
of the animators. If you manually set a new value the effect will
    ignore those values.
Your problem is a little bit more complicated. You'll have to
create a more complex script that will instantiate on the fly a new
effect for each button when that button is clicked. Because when
you instantiate an effect another effect it is possible to have run
the percent value will be considered from the current size and not
from the old original size. In this situation we'll have to also
compute manually before effect instantiation the pixel value
    against the maximum one:
    <input type="button" onclick="slideIt('25%');" value="Set
    To 25%">
    <input type="button" onclick="slideIt('50%');" value="Set

  • Render Queue Question for After Effects CS5.5

What is the best render settings for my laptop amd-300 apu with radeon hd graphics 1.30 GHz that has 2.00 GB Ram (1.60GB Usable?) It's also 64 bit.
I am rendering some special effects with CC Mr. Mercury and CC Vector Blur. I tried using just the standard settings and it goes fine until it gets up to the CC Mr. Mercury and Vector Blur, then it slows the heck down and takes forever to finish.
In the Render Queue what type of settings should I use to make it go faster and still make the effects look good?
    Thanks Adrian

FYI, I have a zillion year old MacBook (plastic computer - remember those) that meets the minimum system requirements of an Intel processor and 2GB ram. It's old and runs CS6 just fine as long as I just do the basics and keep the preview resolution down to about 1/4. I would not try and render production work on that system because it's not up to the task and I'd never expect it to be a production machine. I do use it often when I don't want to drag an expensive machine around with me on my travels.
If you want a production machine you have to pay for it. I have a fully decked out new MBPro R that I use as my primary AE design machine but I still go to a desktop system for large projects that have to be produced on a deadline. If I were a hobbyist I'd live with what I could afford. Because I am a professional and I charge for my services I adjust my rates to pay for the gear that I need to do the job. It's simple economics. Most film makers I know have no idea of how to run a business. Most are starving most of the time. Only a few understand that doing what we talk about on this forum is either an expensive hobby or a business. If it's a business you have to learn how to run a business before you learn how to make a movie. If it's a hobby they you have to have the means to support it. It's no different than Skiing, biking, or building model airplanes. If you can't afford new gear you have to make do with what you've got.
