303 disc error

My Pavilion G6 has thrown up a 303 disc error.  HP are sending me a new HDD and recovery kit, but what can I recover?
I have backup via Virgin Media so should be able to get music/videos etc but what about all downloaded programs.
eg. Winzip, Norton 360, Spotify (I use this a lot), and many others.
Do the programs I've found on IE really solve 303 errors, I have doubts?

Hi,
A 303 error is a failure of the short Disk Self Test and usually indicates a physical problem with the drive - ie sectors that can no longer be written to or read from.  There is certainly software around that can mark these 'bad' sectors not to be used and the drive may well then pass a diagnostic, however this is really just masking the problem.
Regarding your software, the Recovery Discs shipped with your new HDD will reinstall nearly all of the software originall bundled with your notebook, but you'll need to re-download and install any third party applications such as Spotify again.

  • Windows XP installation "Disc error" message

I am trying to install Windows XP Pro w/SP2 on my Macbook Pro, running 10.5.6. After partitioning my disc through Boot Camp, I restart with my Windows disc and reach the screen where I have to select the correct partition. After selecting partition 3, I reach a black screen that says, "Disc error. Press any key to restart." None of the keys respond, and I'm forced to hold down the power key. When I try and reboot off the XP disc, the same error message appears. Apple tech support was of no help. Anyone???

    Hey there,
Check out this page below. It may have to do with how and where you are formatting the the Windows partition. Hope this helps.

  • How do I burn a DVD R disc with Windows Movie Maker?  It indicates disc error on my DVD player.  Someone thought it had something to do with Itunes?  I reloaded Itunes 1 month ago and had no problem creating this disc then.  Help

I have made several DVD+R discs in the past using Windows Live Movie Maker sucessfully.  I made one about one month ago for my son's b-day.  I am using the same discs as I had then.  When I tried to burn the disc, it indicates that it is burning, however, when I insert it into the DVD player at home on our TV (like I"ve always done), it indicates disc error.  Someone mentioned that the burner goes out every now and then when Itunes is uploaded?  When I burn the disc, I can pull it up on my home and work computers, so I know that it is there.

Yes, you can distribute a burned disk of the project to those who can create duplicate disks.  Or create a disk image of the iDVD project using the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.
Then you can distribute the disk image to those who will burn the disks.  For PCs you'll have to convert the .dmg file to a .iso file so they can burn it.  This website describer how: Mac Help - Convert and Burn Mac .dmg or .img to .iso Windows PC-Compatible Disk Image
Suggest to them to burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
It would be prudent to rest your optical drive for about 30 minutes after burning 3 disks in a row. That will give the laser time to cool down before you start another batch.

  • When I try to burn my slideshow.mov to a dvd disc, it will burn but when i put it in the dvd player it says 'disc error'. I have burned it thru iDVD before but forgot how to do it and it won't do it now. The slide show is on my desktop

Rather than burn directly to disk follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Can t back up library to disc. error 2131 . whats wrong ?

Hi , Can anyone help me back up library to disc. error 2131 keeps appearing.

Update: Success! I used my iPod as an external hard drive following these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US
After I reformatted I reinstalled my old iTunes 6 and dragged the folder back to My Music. At first, iTunes wuldn't sync a couple hundred songs to my iPod because I wasn't "authorized" so I had to enter my Apple ID and password. Downloaded latest software for Itunes and iPod and all is good.
Investing in an external hard drive still sounds like a good idea, since this was my first reformat and it was a bit nerve-wracking.

  • Disc error -43 occurred while reading or writing to a scratch disk.

"Disc error -43 occurred while reading or writing to a scratch disk.  Sorry, but this error is unrecoverable."
What does this mean, and how can I fix it?
I assume it affecting my performance if PS is not able to write to the scratch disc???
I get the error every time I shut down Photoshop.
    Attached are my settings.

It means that the OS says there was an error with your hard disk.
You need to check the disk for problems, and make sure you have your data backed up before continuing.
It could be a one time thing (especially if the SMART system remapped the bad block), but could also be an indication of serious problems with the disk if it recurrs.

    Hi John!
Exactly which model PowerBook G4 is it?
    What is the Processor speed?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
When manufactured, which version of OS, was pre-installed?
Did you use the original system install discs to reinstall?
Did you perform an Erase & Install?
Are you using the Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs?

    Hi chilkootcindy,
Regarding the error you are receiving using BlackBerry App World™ storefront, could you please verify that the date and time settings on your BlackBerry® Bold™ smartphone are correct before retrying to download? This KB article provides the steps to check this. ""An error has occurred. Please try again later" is displayed when the user attempts to login to BlackBerry App World " http://bbry.lv/I2w2E3
If these settings are correct, I would suggest verifying with your wireless service provider that your data plan currently supports these applications.

  • Can't save because of disc error

I am using iMac G5 OS 10.3 PhotoShopCS Nikon D70 camera.
When I download to iPhoto ( I have it set to open Photoshop) and open the image in PhotoShop I can not save my changes. It says "can't save because of disc error." I checked out the camera, memory cards, formatting, etc. and all is OK. I am assuming this is a Mac problem. Any ideas?
iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.7)   Photoshop CS Nikon D70 camera +SanDisk memory

when I download photos from a card I use a card reader and image capture. I download to a new folder on the desktop, and then drag the folder to one of many aux hard drives. If I am going to work on the photos now I just leave the folder on the desk top until I finish with it. I look at iphoto as an unnecessary step and avoid using it. I keep all photos in aux hard drives to avoid using hard drive space.

  • Photoshop CC scratch disc error

I'm having a frequent scratch disc error program when coming back to my computer after being away. I'll pull up the program ... which has already been open and it'll just say "a scratch disc error has occured" and then shuts down.
my local hard drive where photoshop is installed has 250g free
I've got an external drive set as an additional scratch disc with 1.51T free.
It seems like it could be more of a sleep issue or something with coming back to something that was already open and maybe the external being asleep? But that seems highly unlikely for it to just go "meh. whatever. close." when locally there's still plenty of space left.

I have not had any real problems with letting my workstation with an external disk  enter sleep state. When the system wakes up I have often notice the my external 4TB Seagate usb 3 drive take some time to get running and will often see Windows Autoplay popup window for the drive.  However I don't use that drive for application work space like Photoshop scratch space.  For application may be off and running before the drive is ready after sleeping.  I find the USB3 external hard disk performs almost as well as my internal 10k RPM 500GB disk.  I did not expect that.

  • OSX Lion and Photoshop CS5 "scratch disc error"

I've been using Photoshop CS5 for awhile now (about a year and a half). Up to yesterday I was running OSX Snow Leapord with no issues. Yesterday I upgraded to OSX Lion and today, my first day using Photoshop in Lion, I'm getting repeated "scratch disc error" messages with a "quit" button (no other options). Photoshop works fine for awhile, three hours or so, and then I'll get the "scratch disc error" message and will be forced to quit Photoshop and restart.
My main drive is a 2Tb drive with 1.7Tb of available space, so I'm sure scratch disc space isn't a problem. I've got about another Tb of scratch disc space available on two other internal drives. I've got 14Gb of Ram, all memtested and working perfectly. It clearly seems to be an issue with OSX Lion since it never happened before today. A few other details: I'm up to date with Photoshop CS5, I have Open GL turned off because I'm on an older Mac Pro (a 3.0 Ghz dual quad core, 2.1) and my video card doesn't play nicely with Open GL (a whole different kind of crash).
All three times I've gotten the "scratch disc error" pop-up today it seems to have been when I open multiple files. This last time I opened something like 8 files. Big deal; sometimes I open 40 or more without any problems. So can anyone please help me with this issue? I have yet to lose any of my work (I save constantly - a habit born out of past frustrations), so it's managable, but it shouldn't be happening.
    Thanks.

I am havng this same exact problem. Recently, I reinstalled my OSX Lion fresh, and also just installed CS5.5 Design Premium. I have been experiencing this same error repeatedly.
On my computer there are two separate Scratch Discs (non-partioned) and when the error first popped up, I tried switching between Scratch Discs. One at a time, even using other drives and still received the same error. I've done everything I can find suggested to no avail. All OS updates are done, CS5.5 is updated, permissions repaired, disks repaired, graphics driver current, OpenGL disabled, etc....
If we can determine a fix, it would be greatly appreciated. Photoshop is an awesome tool that I use extensively, and this is driving me insane!
BTW, here is the error I believe he is getting (same one I see way too many times a day)
    Thanks, Billy

  • IPod folder icon, no communication, hard disc error problems

    Hi,
For a while now, I've been getting a message when I plug it into my computer: 'ipod_control/device/sysInfo is corrupt, please run chkdsk.'
Last night I ripped a few CDs and uploaded them to the pod. I noticed that not all the tunes had copied over. I tried again a few times and kept getting the error "The iPod <podname> cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-36)". I tried uploading a tune at a time and it was incredibly slow and eventually just stopped altogether.
So I figured it was maybe time to follow the instructions and run chkdsk. This seemed to fix three broken files including the one mentioned above and a couple of tunes, so I rebooted etc and tried uploading tunes again. Same as before.
So then I thought, OK, maybe I need to get the latest iPod software. I downloaded it and went to update it and it initialised OK, then said something about that it couldn't write the new software due to a hard disc error.
Then all it would give me was an exclamation mark and a folder icon on the pod screen.
I then went to the Apple site and followed various instructions about resetting it and putting it into disk mode, to try and run the update there, and the updater hung, giving me only a blank screen without even getting past the initialisation stage any more. I managed to get the pod out of disk mode but all it does now is give me the !folder icon on the screen.
Now the computer won't even recognise it as an ipod when it's plugged in, just a removable disc. When I click on the disc in Windows explorer, it asks me if I want to format it.
I've tried the updater again and it still doesn't get past the initialisation stage. Which means I don't even have the option of doing a Restore, as far as I can see.
Have I killed my iPod? Is there a way I can get it back? Obviously it would be nice to get all my tunes back but if I have to start again, so be it.
    Thanks,
    Jo
    Update:
Never mind.... After more shenanigans with my Windows box, I decided there was nothing else to be done but to zap the Pod and start again. I took it to my iBook which was only too happy to talk to the Pod and reformat it and restore it. I am now reaching for my CD collection....
(Incidentally, the only reason I was using Windows in the first place is because that particular machine is much quicker at ripping CDs)
