30Boxes weird time warp makes calendars impossible to update

I can't find anyplace else to ask this question, and I think that there are some iCal users here who use 30Boxes for its superior printing capabilities, so I hope somebody here has figured this out!
A school has a web site that has a couple of google calendars embedded in it for an Activities calendar and a Lunch Menu calendar.  Works great as a web page, on lots of devices, and lots of folks have it included in their iCals.  And the school prints hardcopies of the calendars out each month and posts them on the bulletin boards, and sends them home with the kids.  The only problem is that iCal and GoogleCalendar both produce pathetic excuses for printed-out calendars -- they only show the first couple of characters of each event, leaving a big empty square underneath.
Someone here pointed me in the direction of 30 Boxes, and it is a fabulous solution.  Google calendars and iCal calendars can simply be imported in, and printed with this program.  The code fills up each day's boxes in a totally reasonable way for the printed output, giving a nice useful hardcopy tool.  The way that you get the 30Boxes calendar to sync with the main at google is that on the page where you link in the google/iCal calendar there is a spot which tells you when it was last updated, and right next to it there is a little link that says "Update Now" and when you click on it then it fetches the latest data.
Until a couple of months ago when we started having this bizarre problem!  Periodically we would go in to update the 30Boxes data, and the "Last updated" time has negative time.  And the Update Now link is just missing.  The time marches up towards zero -- so it says "Updated -4 hrs 28 mins ago" and then 15 minutes later it says "Updated -4 hrs 13 mins ago"  After an excruciating wait for the time to go positive, the "Update now" link appears and the calendar can be updated.  Unfortunately, the timing is usually such that the kids have gone home without their printed-out calendars by the time it allows an update.
Also, the event times will sometimes show up off by an hour during this "time warp" period.
It seems to be some sort of time zone problem, as when it happens it's usually either -5 or -6 hours at the beginning, and our time zone is 6 hours before GMT during standard time and 5 hours in Daylight Savings Time.
Has anyone figured out how to get themselves out of a 30Boxes time warp without just waiting it out?

What version of Windows are you on (XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 )? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?

  • More weirdness from the CS3 time warp

    I've applied the Time Warp effect at 50% to several adjacent clips in a timeline which works fine in all of them save two. In those clips the motion is jerky because if you scroll slowly ahead it plays a frame, then goes backward a bit, then what appears to be a full frame ahead, then back a bit. This repeats for the duration of the clip.
    I tried copying the effect from a good sequence and applying it to the faulty one, thinking I may have an errant parameter in the bad one somewhere. No soap. It's still wrong. So I import the footage that has the problem into a new project and apply the time warp effect. No problem.
    Back to the original project. I check the field dominance... not modified, and I check "Speed/Duration" which is set to 100% as it should be. Completely befuddled, I delete the Time Warp from the two offending clips, change the Speed to 50% and re-trim. It's all good.
    What really confuses me is why this happened. Has anyone else seen this? If so, is there a way to fix it, or is it just another Time Warp bug? (I've already found one.)
    System is:
    3.0 GHz Dual Core Athlon
    3 GB RAM
    Windows Vista
    HW and SW up to date
    I don't mean for this to sound like a rant on the TW, but I'm trying to find out if others have seen this or if it's only my own ineptitude. If I were a betting man I'd put money on the latter.
    Thanks.

    Yeah I've seen it and what I do is get out of the program and then re-open it and it seems to correct itself. It has been an infrequent problem.

  • Is there a way to turn off showing the time in each Calendar entry in "week" view?

    I use the "week" view as my primary calendar. Upon updating to Mavericks, the calendar forces the starting time to be shown with each entry. This forces me to make my entries at least 1.5 hours long to show even two short lines of text. I frequently want to show two or three lines of text, for example when menu planning. Also, I consider this "feature" to be just chart junk--the starting time is already shown by the position on the calendar.

    I agree, clearing an entire line to show the event's starting time—when this should be apparent from the event block's position in the calendar—is a critical waste of space.
    Please also, of course, report to http://www.apple.com/feedback/.

    Recently, there has been a bug on my Mac OS X Lion, while trashing an iphoto the errant pic does not go to trash bin, but simply disappears! Which makes it impossible to change my mind. The trash remains empty, yet the pic is gone, and I never even emptied the trash (because it never made it to the trash)! How to recover the album I just accidently made disappear in this way?

    Sorry - there have been no updates to that system for a long time
    Try to backup your iPhoto library and lanch iPhoto while holding the option and cannoned keys down - repair permissions and if needed rebuild the database

  • Adobe After Effects CC Time Warp Issues

    Anyone on here proficient in After Effects CC? I'm attempting to mess around with time warping to see if I can mimic the slow motion effects of a high frame rate camera, but the issue I'm running into is that when I slow down the footage at a certain point in the clip, it will slow down, but when it's back to real time speed the frames don't match up. And I haven't found a way to stretch out the length of the clip so the frames do match up. Any advice?

    You need to read up on time remapping. For example: you have a 30 second clip shot at 30 fps and you want to play a clip at normal speed for the first 10 seconds, then, and heres the hard part to wrap your head around, slow down the next 10 seconds to 1/4 speed to simulate shooting the clip at 120 fps, then play the last 10 seconds at normal speed. The hard part to wrap your head around when you do this is that the middle 10 seconds will now take 40 seconds to playback.
    Here's what you do:
    Enable time remapping
    Note that there are 2 keyframes, one at the first frame and one that is 1 frame past the end of the video (I won't explain why it is there but trust me it makes sense)
    Move your CTI to the 10 second mark and set a new keyframe by clicking the diamond in the Keys column in the timeline
    Move the CTI to the 20 second mark and set a new keyframe
    Extend the length of the composition to one minute and ten seconds (this is some of the hard part to wrap your head around)
    Move the CTI to the end of the extended composition and set a new out point for your video by pressing Alt/Option + ]
    Now move the CTI to the one minute mark (one minute because the middle 10 seconds is now 40 seconds long so the end of the slow mo section will move from 20 seconds to 1 minute
    Select the last two keyframes and drag them to the left until the keyframe originally set at 20 seconds snaps to the one minute mark and the last keyframe is one frame past the out point of the clip
    That's all there is to it. Your new modified video plays at normal speed for the first 10 seconds, 1/4 speed for the next 40 seconds, then resumes normal speed. You can check out the speed graph to verify the speed change and even modify the curves so the change in speed is smoothed out, but if you do that you should have decided before you moved the last two keyframes and set two additional keyframes at san 10:10 and 19:20 to give you a few frames to ramp up and ramp down your slow mo.
    The thought process is the same no matter what technique you use to change the speed in the middle of a clip. If you want to return to normal speed after the speed change you need to define the outpoint of the speed change and move the outpoint and the end point of the speed change down the timeline for slowing down a clip or up the timeline for speeding one up to return the clip to normal speed.
    Now all you are stuck with is how to make the slow motion segment look smooth because you are repeating four frames at a time. Twitter is probably the best tool for this but it is expensive. AE's frame blending does a fairly good job on most video. Some video will not successfully slow down more than 1/4 speed no matter what software you use. Some video will slow down to 1/10 speed just fine using nothing more than Time Remapping. It all depends on the shot.

  • After Effects Time Warp and reverse

    Hi there;
    I am a university student and stuck with a project, I normally use photoshop but I am working with short videos in after effects, what I am wanting to do is quite simple, but I am stuck with it.
    I have some short clips (30-60 seconds) which I need to reduce in speed to roughly 1/4 - 1/16 speed. They were shot at 60fps, but I need the actually image frames so I cannot play back the footage slower. I also need to reverse the footage. This is what I am doing;
    Import movie;
    interpret footage;
         Loop;
         4.
    New comp from footage;
    Time Warp;
         Speed;
              25%
    Which turns a 30 second clip into 2 minutes and adds lots of useful frames.
    However, I need it to play backwards too, so I hit CTRL, ALT, R (Time reverse layer) and all the footage turns into a single stuck frame!
    So I undo that and set time warp speed to -25% - same problem, what is going on? How can I both reverse the footage, AND timewarp it?
    I have very little experience in AE, I am normally a photographer
    Also, is there a way to export EVERY SINGLE FRAME as .png or targa? Technician has told me that this is "impossible" but then a friend has said that it is possible to export Tiffs from some software? I know that 2 mins at 60fps 720p will be roughly 20Gb of files - just trying to save a software step?

    Pre-compose before you reverse.
    Setup the render cue and output module to output an image sequence. This is basic rendering knowledge covered in the help files.

  • Does Time Machine make back-ups when nobody is logged on?

    Hello,
    Does Time Machine make back-ups when nobody is logged on and does it continue to back-up when I log off?
    I'm using an directly connected external hard drive to back-up my data with Time Machine, the back-ups are encrypted.
    Thanks in advance.

    I had the same problem with Time Machine and solved it by enabling "Enable Power Nap" in Energy Saver:
    System Preferences...
    Energy Saver
    Restore Defaults
    Check "Enable Power Nap: While sleeping, your Mac can back up using Time Machine and periodically check for new email, calendar, and other iCloud updates."

  • Time settings in Calendar ?

    Having trouble with the times in calendar...  I know this might sound simple but every time I make an entry on my calendar (I'm in CST) it posts the time in PST...  I have the date and time in settings set to Central,  anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong?

      I turned on time zone support, opened individual events (that had been set in Central time) and changed the time zone to floating. When I set time zone support to Pacific time, every event I had manually changed to floating displayed correctly - but events I did not manually change still moved backwards two hours.
    That's the expected behaviour.  It assumes that events created in Missouri will occur in Missouri.  When you are in Seattle it corrects the time, so you won't miss the event if you use a live video feed or phone in.
    I have hundreds of events in my calendar, do I really have to open each one up and change it to floating?
    You should change each event to the time zone of the event's location.  Floating should be reserved for events that have no fixed location.  e.g. if you want to schedule lunch for noon wherever you happen to be.
    At the top of the calndar window you can set the view time zone.  For example, while in Missouri you can set it to Pacific to see what you schedule will look like when you go to Seattle.

  • ICal won't let me change times of Google calendar event

    I have been using iCal with Google Calendar for a long time, but suddenly, this morning, I am no longer able to edit times in my calendar events.  If I create a new event, it gets default times, and I can edit it all I want, but when I save it and then view it again, the old times are there.  I can edit the times accessing Google Calendar directly in a browser, and then the times of the event are updated in iCal when iCal re-syncs, but I can't actually make the edit through iCal.
    Any thoughts? Anyone else experiencing this issue?
    Thanks.

    Greetings,
    Questions:
    What version of the Mac OS are you using (Apple > About this Mac)
    If you go into a freshly created new user on your Mac and add your Google calendar to ical, does the same thing happen?
    Cheers.

  • Time Warp error with CS4

    Simply, everytime I add the Timewarp effect to my clip, it loses the last 3-4 seconds of footage.  It still registers just 11 seconds for the clip but the ending disappears, like it automatically got stretched.  Beyond that editing the clip appears fine.  I apply the slow-mo effect I want.  Its an unchanged movie file straight from my 60D.  Is there a conversion I should perform first?  Or is it just something stupid I missed?

    Agreed, was trying to get the basics of 1000fps slow-mo from 60fps with Time Warp down as I had planned to film some small sections of it soon. Going to try and find a all-around basic starting tutorial this weekend.
    That's not going to work very well. Think about it. You're asking software to analyze the movement of the pixels on a frame and create about 16 frames of smooth motion from every 2 frames of real motion. One second becomes about 16 seconds.
    If a thrown ball moves 200 pixels between two frames then you're asking software to divide that motion into 16 pieces, figure out which pixels are ball and which are background, redraw and reposition the ball accurately, replace the background, where the ball was, and do this without distortion that spoils the effect. It's not that it can't be done, it's just that you have to carefully plan, carefully photograph, and carefully tweak your footage to get it to work at that kind of a speed reduction.
    I'm not trying to throw water on your idea, just trying to give you some realistic expectations. Lots of action doesn't have to be slowed down that much to look very good.
    3rd party plug-ins like Re:Vision FX Twixtor do a better job, a significantly better job, but 1000 FPS video from 60 is very difficult, and depending on the motion, it can be impossible.

  • Shuddering Playback Makes Editing Impossible

    I researched the above topic and found good suggestions in a May 31, 2007, post to remedy it. I restarted computer, changed preferences, etc.
    I am running iMovie HD 6.0.3 on an iMac G5, OSX 10.4.11 with 21 GB available on HD.
    I have a 5 minute project using mostly stills and a little video (no audio with video). In the first audio track there is a narration for the whole project. In the second audio track there is a little music at the opening and closing only. I do believe the problem showed up with the addition of the music track.
    Hope someone can suggestion something. I panicked yesterday at this horrible jerkiness and exported it as High Quality QT movie. That plays fine. But when we tried to adjust the volume and add a title to the original project today, the playback is so jerky it makes it impossible to do so. Adjusting the volume is important.
    Since this project is being done partly to show how easy iMovie is to use and the organization I work for is considering purchasing a Mac, iMovie, iDVD etc this is more than a little embarrassing. I used iMovie back in 2003 and never saw such behavior.
    Would appreciate any thoughts about it. I'm stumped.

    "..whether you have done any work with iMovie HD 6 and, if so, is this "instability" I'm encountering with '06 peculiar to my project or the '06 version?..
    I've just finished an 80th birthday tribute to my cousin, using iMHD6, and have used it extensively since it first came out (..and previous versions, see small print below..) and the only real "instability" I remember finding in '06 is that if I slow down a clip, then trim it, the clip which then follows it is its original, un-slowed-down version!
    Otherwise, no particular problems. I haven't had any music or audio problems ..and I make extensive audio mixes in iMovie (..which is why I stick with iMHD6 for fiddling with the audio..) ..but it's been extensively reported that if you have many individual audio clips crowding the two audio tracks, then you'll probably reach a point where everything (audio and video) starts stuttering.
    (..This was isolated by Karl Petersen of these Discussions, who's not too well at the moment, but has given sterling service to everyone over many years here!..)
    "..Does it occur in '08?.." ..Not that I've noticed. But audio placement in '08 is an entirely different business, and one can't edit audio - or I can't! - so precisely in '08. I do lots of frame-accurate audio trimming (..in '06..) but there just isn't that kind of precision available in '08. But for a "quick'n'dirty" rapid assembly I find '08 far faster to use than '06.
    Maybe look at the source of your audio. Even though you say it's an .aiff file, how did you come by it? Was it taken from a CD or from an MP3? ..Has it been extracted by some weird means from some other source, and fed into QuickTime, or another program, and then re-saved as an .aiff? Was it recorded/turned into an .aiff at a peculiar non-standard sampling rate, instead of the (preferred) 48kHz/16-bit rate of DV video which iMovie likes?
    You don't say which model of iMac you're using, but almost any iMac should be OK for standard-definition DV video in iMHD6. So I doubt that it's the hardware, nor the iMovie software. It may be some peculiar provenance of your music..

  • I updated my iPhone 4S and my iPad 4 to iOS 7 now they both drop all my contents all my notes go missing I keep having to turn it off and on sometimes several times to make a phone call and the scroll rarely works is there anything I can do?

    I updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 7 now my phone constantly deletes all my contacts and takes days to download them from my iCloud again, constantly needs to be turned off and on sometimes several times to make a phone call, the scroll rarely works, is there anything I can do, the apple tech told me it was something I'd just have to get used to, my phone worked perfectly before the update.

    Even if it is a hardware problem they should fix it regardless of warranty. If you buy a car and after 1.5 years the doors fall off due to a failure in their design and construction, do you think the car manufacturer could pull off what Apple is trying to do? Yes the car still delivers its primary objective of driving from A to B, but significant functionality has been lost due to their fault.
    It is the same with this iPhone wifi problem. Apple are a disgrace, I have had significant Apple Hardware failures with my MacBook Pro and iPhone within 2 years of purchase. Pathetic quality.
