  • My 60GB Ipod used to play videos but no it doesn't??? help!!!!!

    Hi, there
my ipod used to play videos, i then didnt play one for a while and it now doesnt play them anymore..... it doesnt seem to update them onto my ipod....thanks

ok now are the videos that are not updating to the ipod the same videos that used to update to it? Or is it new content you have imported to itunes since you last updated the ipod with videos? Also, are these videos itunes purchased or user created content?
See these articles for information on file formats that will play in itunes and import to the ipod (note: itunes plays more file types than the ipod will load, so just because a video will play in itunes does not mean the file type will update to ipod)

Now once you have made sure that your videos are in the correct format and have been converted to play on the ipod, make sure that your ipod preferences are set to automatically update the videos. Or you can try manual mode and drag and drop em onto the ipod.

  • Please Help! iPod won't play videos anymore!

I've had my 5th generation iPod for a year now and for the last 3 months I have not been able to get my videos to play. I have DVD's that I've burned as well as movies that I've downloaded. At first, only one or two wouldn't play and now I am down to only 1, out of about 20 videos that will still work.
When I try to play a video I get a black screen. I can adjust the volume and see that the video is there, but the elapsed time just stays frozen at 00:00. The only way to recover the iPod after this is to reset it by holding down the menu and select buttons. I've checked that the TV out is off and tried everything else that I can figure out to try. I have even restored the iPod and reloaded all of the content. Still, only that one video will play and all the others lock up the iPod. I've tried re-downloading the videos and ripping the DVD's again. I also tried adding new videos. The iPod syncs and the videos upload fine but when I try to play them… no luck.
Anyone else have this same problem? It's driving me crazy. Ready to go buy a Zune.

    Hello,
Only i could say, that i have the same problem with my 30Gb iPod during the last two or three months. Just after syncing my iPod i was not able to see any video. In the beginning one restart of the device was helpful and video started playing as usual. Now does not help anything: either multiple restarts of the iPod, or restoring all settings via iTunes.
Since i have encountered this problem, i have not found any answer.

  • TS1966 I cannot play video on safari but works fine on google chrome?  What do i need to do to fix it?

I cannot play video on safari but works fine on google chrome?  What do i need to do to fix it?

If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
Try uninstalling the currently installled Flash plugin (required for most YouTube content) then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
From your Safari menu bar top of your screen click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now from the menu bar click Develop > Empty Caches

  • How do i get my iPod vid to play videos continuously and not one by one plz

Hi, can someone please advise how do i get the iPod to play the videos one after the other like when playing songs. I have tried going into video settings but it does not help. I did manage to get it on cont. play once last week sometime but i think this was a fluke and i cant remember what i did. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks D

If you create a video playlist in iTunes, add a few
videos to it then transfer that to your iPod, then
when you access the video playlist on your iPod it
should play all the videos one after the other.
Hi, I think i solved it i just pressed the reset button and went back into mus vid playlist and it worked bu i was scared it might of reset the ipod back to factory sttage but it never. Thanks anyway will try your way next time.

  • Ipod freezes when playing video through dock

Okay, this is a challenging one. I will be surprised if someone can help me figure this one out, but I will be very grateful!!
Picked up a brand new 60gb 5th generation video ipod the other day. 1.1 update already installed. Everything worked great. Was able to play videos through the AV dock, no problem, and was able to hook it up to the JBL stereo for the ipod, no problem.
Here is where it gets interesting. I took an avi video from my digital camera, and used Quicktime Pro to convert it into a .mov Apple Quicktime movie. I am using Windows XP. I then imported that .mov movie into itunes. Then I right clicked on the file and told itunes to convert it into the ipod format. I then hooked the ipod up to the computer, and the video was transferred to the ipod with no problems.
Then I was able to play the video with no problem on the ipod screen (not hooked up to the AV dock). Then I inserted the ipod into the AV dock that is hooked up to my tv. I played videos this way without a problem, before I loaded this new home made video. When I played the new video, I answered Yes to Tv Out, and right after that point my ipod froze up. No video played at all. Then I had to reset my ipod.
I tried this again several times, with the same result. This was now happening with regular videos that I downloaded from itunes. Also now, when I hooked the ipod up to the JBL stereo, and just tried to play a song, the ipod would freeze up. However, songs and videos play fine when the ipod is not hooked up to a dock.
It seems to me like my home made video somehow corrupted the software drivers for the port on the ipod.
Then to fix the problem, I finally had to do the dreaded RESTORE. I could not update the ipod, because I was already at version 1.1. I tried rolling back to an earlier version, but the updater told me that the update was not compatible with my ipod.
The RESTORE did fix the problem. The ipod was completely back to normal. I could hook it up to the JBL and the AV dock with no problems. Until...yes, I tried playing the home made video again. I just wanted to see if it was a fluke. Same problem came back....arrghhh!
He is another weird observation. I can start the video playing on the ipod, without it hooked up to the dock, and answer Yes to tv out. The video starts playing, then I can insert the ipod into the dock, while it is still playing, and the video plays fine on the tv, through the dock! Until the video finishes. Once the video finishes, the ipod freezes up again.
I wonder if this is a hardware problem, and I should just return my ipod. It seems like a software problem to me. I think if it is my home made video that is corrupting my ipod, I think itunes should be smart enough to not copy something to my ipod that is going to corrupt it.
Ha..ha...wow, sorry that was very long-winded. Anyone have any suggestions?
Dell Dimension 2.8ghz P4   Windows XP   2.25GB of RAM

All I can suggest is to re-encode the video as m4v with QT Pro, there might've been a problem in encoding. Also, try sending this same video (setting TV Out to Yes) with the iPod not plugged into the dock and with an Apple RCA cable, if you have one, hooked up to a TV. If that works, the dock connector might be damaged (unlikely) but it's possible. So once you've re-encoded, see if the dock situation works then. Good luck.

my 5th generation 30gb video ipod will not play for more than an hour or two.. can you help??please??

  • Can play videos on TV but not photos

Using Apple's AV Cable, I could play all videos on TV. But cannot play photos. TV setting is on. But no show on TV. Anyone experiencing this problem ?

I was having the same problem and called Apple. I even explained everything I was doing, but they couldn't help me beyond the usual reset and restore procedures. These didn't help. The case was finally sent to engineering to see if they can reproduce it and that's where it stands today.
Then I figured it out... Visualamit had the correct answer, and maybe the comment wasn't clear enough.
The problem is really one of user interface. To play videos (once the Video Out is set to On), one can select a video and then press the center button or the Play button and the same thing happens: The video plays with text and a fixed image on the iPod, and the video plays on the Video Out.
Under Photos, however, it's different. What I was doing was going into Photos and selecting an album to get thumbnails, then selecting a picture using the center button to make it full screen and navigating "slides" from there. This is different from pressing Play at the album or thumbnail level. Using the center button *does not* send the images to the video out even when Video Out is turned on.
To get the photos to play on the Video Out, one must use the PLAY button either at the album or thumbnail menu levels. Only then will the photos be displayed on the Video Out with transitions, with a slideshow navigation screen on the iPod.
I suggest that this is a user interface design error. The intuitive option would be to provide video out for photos under both full screen display options options (the center button and Play) like it does under the Videos.
Hope that solves this problem for a few people, and I hope Apple will consider activating video out for photos using both the center button and Play!

  • IPod Nano's playing videos - THE VERDICT?

I just got a brand new iPod Nano (blue) for Xmas yesterday!
And I've already begun personalizing it and searching version tracker for some helpful apps to organise stuff
    (not that iTunes isn't great!)
But whilst surfing I came across a few websites stating you can get your ipod to play videos.
    http://www.theplaceforitall.com/linuxnano/
    http://ipodlinux.org/Video_Player
This interests me, but I don't want to muck up my new ipod.
So just wondered if anyone's tried it or think it looks dodgy.
    I'll check for replies later!
    Thanks!

The iPod nano does not support video. The processor is not strong enough, along with other things.
Also, do not try iPod Linux, even though you might hear that its awesome.
    1. Even iPod Linux does not support iPod nano downloads.
    2. Voids any Warranty you have on your iPod.
    3. Not unusual for it to leave your iPod as a large domino, and with no warranty, you're out of luck.
    4. Is it really worth it to watch video on a 1.5 inch screen?
    5. Video takes up a lot of space, and iPod nanos don't have much to spare.
    I hope this helps!

  • My ipod won't play video on my tv

my ipod will not play video on my tv. it tell me tv out enabled please connect video accesory. i have an standard red/white/yellow rca plugged into the earphone jack and it is plugged in properly behind the tv.

The 4th gen Nano has no video out through the headset jack the way older iPods did.. You need the cable that plugs into the port where your sync cable plugs in. As far as I know, the cable is only available through Apple but I could be out of date on that.
    Best of luck.

  • Composite AV Cable will play video and audio, but not music

I just bought an Apple Composite AV Cable to use with my iPod touch 3rd gen. It will play videos and the accompanying audio through the TV with no problems, but it will not play just music. What's the deal?

No. However, you can get a cable from the headphone jack to an audio input for your TV.
The Apple universal dock also has audio out.

  • Will iPod screen also play video when connected to TV?

    would love to know! Thanks.

    Thanks Tom,
You're probably right, it will be best to have both cables. As you say the av cable is very portable and it's not that much more expensive to buy both.
Of course, at home, the iPod will not display movies as crisply as dvd's with any cable (given the iPod video encoding limitations), so again you just have to understand your desired uses.
I understand that the videos will never be DVD quality, and I am not buying an iPod because it now does video. I think it will be all for music and pictures mainly but for the odd video it will do the job of showing friends.

  • IPod 60 gig "forgets" videos are loaded!

This is the strangest thing...my iPod appears to have lost track of the videos I loaded onto it! I hadn't looked at any videos for a while, and when I looked at the Videos menu, I noticed "TV Shows" wasn't listed anymore. That caught me by surprise, since I have quite a bit of TV content loaded.
Then I discovered that, upon browsing the menus, it listed all of my audio AND video content at once where it should have only listed videos. Upon selecting a video from that list, it would only play the audio - basically, I was unable to view any video. iTunes still shows that the videos are on there, and when I deleted some videos from the iPod and add them again, they finally appear in the iPod's list.
How can I get the rest of the videos to show up without reloading them all? I don't have all of them on my computer, and I'd have to copy them all back first with a program like Senuti. Big pain.

No, that's what's weird...this all happened on 1.0, as I'd heard all about the problems 1.1 has been giving people. Just for the **** of it, I upgraded to 1.1 to see if it would alleviate things, but no dice - plus, of course, the audio dropout bug. I downgraded to 1.0 and the "no video" thing is still there.
