30GB iPod not holding as many songs as it should

In my iTunes, it says I have 4816 songs, which is 18.42 GB; but then when I try to put all of that on my 30 GB iPod it says it won't fit, and so I temporarily added some of my playlists and even that filled up the capacity to 20 GB, which is more than my entire library on iTunes. I checked the bit rate of my songs, but they are already set at 128 kbps. I don't really know what to do, so if you have any ideas I would appreciate it!

Restore it, I got my ipod working again, if it locks up (which I don't think it will) contact me or if you know how to reset the 1finger-per-hand way to that. Get the newest version Ipod updater and open it up and hit, "restore"

Do they play OK in iTunes on the computer?
    How long to they play
Try a reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

I'm trying to play a song and itunes is repeatly asking me to authorize the account.  I have authorized the account and it will not play one particular song.  What should I do?

If just one song on an album is doing that, that suggests the track is damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • Help! ipod nano won't hold as many songs as it says it can

I have an ipod nano that is 2GB and can hold up to 500 songs. I only have 113 songs on it and when i try to put more on it it says that there is not enough room to put more songs on it. How do i make it able to hold more songs????
    Toshiba   Windows XP

Bear in mind that the song limit advertised is based on 4 minute per song, 1MB per minute, encoded as 128 kbps in AAC format.
Check the encoding of your songs. To do this, right click one the sorting columns in iTunes tick bit rate, then click this new column to sort the songs by bit rate. Any songs that are encoded at higher than 128 kbps will be causing excess space to be used for storage. To change the bit rate of these songs you can convert them to AAC format (sound quality will be lost). Or you can reimport them from CD/Computer once you have changed the import settings as detailled below, but that could be time consuming.
To convert go to the edit menu, select preferences, click the advanced tab, and select importing. For best song capacity on the iPod, make sure that the encoder is set to "Import using AAC encoder", and "High quality 128 kbps". Hit OK. Then collect together all the high encoded songs and select them all (click the top one and hold shift, then click the bottom one). Right click the highlighted area and go to "Convert selection to AAC". This could take a while if there are many songs.
Once complete, go to the Edit menu, and select "Show duplicate songs". Delete all the "old" songs, recognisable by their bitrate, format or size. Again, to show these, right click a sorting column, and tick the respective ones.
Once this is done, update the iPod.
If your songs are all changed into 128kbps AAC and are mostly all around 4 mins long, then you should get very close to the song limit advertised

  • Ipod not syncing correctly and songs skipping on ipod but not itunes/wmp

My old ipod was having this same issue(so I presumed it was broken) and I wanted to get a new one as the old one was an 8 gig and didnt really have enough size for me so I bought a new 32 gig ipod. Unfortunately this new one is having the exact same problem and I cannot figure out why. I've tried uninstalling itunes and all the other apple programs and reinstalled them all and I've tried converting the songs to AAC but these have had no effect.
The songs play perfectly in both itunes and windows media player it's just when they transfer over to the ipod the problems start. Usually what happens is the song plays for xx seconds then the sound stops but the song continues playing on the ipod if I leave it alone the ipod skips to the next song but if I force it to speed up eventually the song kicks in again but at a different point. Other times the song will play out of sequence and will sound completely disjointed.
Another problem that keeps cropping is when trying to sync the ipod it will get about half way and randomly cut out on one song telling me it's corrupt but it's always a different song and will happily skip over previous songs that caused a problem when I run it again.
I would import all the music again but I don't have access to the CDs as I am out of the country for a year, I didn't buy any of the songs through itunes so can't re-download them either.
I am running vista 64 bit but I used the 64 bit installer so I'm not sure if that would really cause any problems or not and yes I made sure the ipod is up to date and I have tried resetting it numerous times.

It's hard to say without a lot more information; Here's a sample of things that would need to be answered in order to really determine the cause:
*Age of the computer and/or hard drive
    *What application(s) are installed
What updates occurred or new applications were installed before the issues started popping up
    *Whether files/folders have been deleted
About the only one that really matters for you now is the age of your hard drive. Most hard drives last for 3~5 years, and the hard drives on the newest iBooks (from 2005) would be nearing that 4-year mark. If you've never had your hard drive replaced, there is the possibility that the hard drive is failing. Hard drive failures can result in software corruption--which would be the issues you're seeing.
What you want to do from now on is make sure you have all your important data backed up (and all installation CDs/DVDs accounted for, just in case) and monitor the machine. If the odd behaviors return, we may have to do more troubleshooting.
    Good luck!

  • 30GB iPod stops in middle of songs shows apple on screen

I have a brand new 30GB iPod I'm running on Windows xp. In the middle or at anytime during a song the ipod with stop playing, show an apple against a black screen for about 5 seconds then return to the main menu.
I have latest iTunes, I've updated it, restarted it and even fully restored it. It continues to have the problem.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Matthew.

I never had the problem prior to updating the firmware on my iPod. I personally think that it's unacceptable, and needs to be addressed right away.

  • IPod Not Automatically Adding New Songs When First Plugged In

For some time now, my iPod Nano (currently running iTunes 12.0.1.26) will not automatically add new songs when its first plugged into my MacBook Pro. I have to click the Sync button in the lower right hand corner of iTunes and then it will. I could swear it would automatically add new songs to the Nano but now it doesnt...
Sync Music is checked, Entire Music Library is checked.
Is this one of those new added features of new versions of iTunes? (sarcasm)
    Thank you.

The setting for preventing auto synching in Preferences, Device Preferences was checked.
    Sorry.

  • IPod not holding its charge

I have had my iPod colour 60gb model for just over a month now and all of a sudden the battery is not holding its charge. It is literally going from full to empty in minutes. Anyone else experienced this?

I had a similar problem with a mini, (no not the car, the ipod!) and did a reset and then it held the charge next time.

  • My 2G ipod only holds about 40 songs

Can anyone help me here?? I can not fit any more songs on my ipod and I only have 42. It is brand new, it is 2G. The box said like 250 songs? What am I doing wrong? Is it because I have all of my itunes in wave format? If so how do I convert it back??? Pleeeease help me!!!!!!!

Bear in mind that Apple quotes the number of songs you are able to store on any iPod by using the AAC format at a bitrate setting of 128kbps and for a 4 minute song.
Look in iTunes under edit/preferences/advanced/importing. What does it say in settings and import using? You may have the import settings and bitrate set wrong. You need to compress your music using either mp3 or aac. If you see AIFF, WAV or Apple Lossless then those formats are going to take way more space than mp3 or aac, especially the first 2 which are raw uncompressed formats.
    See this.

  • Doesn't hold as many songs as it used to...

I still get about 940 songs but I used to get 1000 (at one point I even had more then that) - it seems everytime I updated it it holds less and less. Like this morning, it had 970 or something and I wanted to add two new cds... so you would think I would have to delete two cds to add the new ones... no I had to deleted at least 5 cds. I know some cds are bigger then others, etc. But I have checked files sizes and they are all about the same.
I used to have it formatted for windows... seems it might have held more then.
I don't know... does it maybe need a reformat? Or would that not make a difference?

so should I rate everything as 5 and then decrese the stars when its something I dont like?
Generally, no. The default is no stars.
You can create multiple Smart Playlists and use the rating as part of the Smart playlist.
For example, as you listen to the songs, rate them how you like them.
I create one Smart Playlist called Silver iPod Music.
It is 3700 MB at random and rating is not one star.
This give a variety except for one star songs.
Next I create a few other Smart playlists.
The first criteria in these is Playlist is Silver iPod Music.
These do not load songs on the iPod but will simply look for songs already on the iPod
    To these Smart playlists, I also add as criteria such as;
    - Rating is greater than 3 stars and have not heard in last two months.
    - Have not rated
    - Rated 5 star and play count is less than 3
    - Have not heard in last 2 months
Put these in the Prefs to sync also.
You can select and listen to these playlists on the iPod also.
No need to delete music from your computer unless you are running out of room (get a new hard drive) or you absolutely do not want to hear it ever again.
This will keep your music on the iPod varied.

  • Ipod suddenly holds half the songs it did

    Hi!
I have a 4 GB 3rd generation Nano and I've had it since July and it has worked perfectly until now. My hard drive crashed last week, so when I got it up and working again I downloaded the latest verision of iTunes and loaded a bunch of cds onto it. This evening I emptied my iPod to put the new music on there. Where before it held 900+ songs, after putting the new music on there it now only holds 528 songs, which is considerably less than 900.
I got rid of iTunes 9 and downloaded iTunes 7.7.1, cos it works, and downloaded the same songs and it still only holds 528 songs.
Apparently this is not an uncommon problem, and in fact it happened to me when I had my 2 GB 1st generation nano.
So I'm wondering if anyone can help me out and offer some suggestions that might remedy my problem, I'd be grateful and am willing to try anything. Thanks so much
    Corey

The default Import settings for iTunes 8 and later is 256 kbps AAC instead of 128 kbps AAC as it was in iTunes 7.

  • IPod won't take many songs I bought on iTunes!

I just upgraded to iTunes 7.5 and iPod 1.2.2 and bought several new songs on iTunes. Now I am getting an error message saying "Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod because you are not authorized to play them on this computer." But they are songs I bought on iTunes! I tried restarting my computer and everything. It is 100 songs total. So frustrating! Any ideas?

The same thing happened to me, but it is only with one song I just bought from iTunes. All the others I bought work just fine, so I know my computer is authorized. The message it gives me is a little different though. It says it can't sync because my iPod can't play it. Why? It's a 30 GB, in case that matters.

  • 30GB IPOD NOT BEING RECOGNIZED BY COMPY

DISCONNECTED TEH IPOD WHILE IT SAID NOT TO, AND NOW IT DOESN'T SEE THE IPOD. THE COMPUTER SEES IT BUT IT WILL NOT CONNECT TO ITUMES OR THE UPDATER FOR A REFORMAT OR WHATEVER. JUST WONDERING IF SOMEONE KNOWS HOW TO MANUALLY DO IT OR IF I CAN TRY SOMETHING ELSE. A FRIENDS IPOD WILL CONNECT AND EVERYTHING SO IT ISN'T SOFTWARE ON THE COMPY. JUST WONDERING.

  • Ipod not showing or playing songs, but is showing gigs being used

    Hi,
I've got a 4th generation ipod. I sent it back to
    have the battery
replaced. when it came back, it looks as if my
    music was all wiped
out. But... if you go under menu --> about, it
    shows that i am using
    about 14 gigs of space.
I can even hook this ipod up to my computer and
    'explore' it through
the drive letter and see the hidden files and
    actually play the music
using Microsoft Media Player or RealPlayer.
I am trying to get the music off of the ipod into
    my external hard
drive so that i can reformat the ipod to fix it,
    but i am not having
any luck. I've tried copypod and ephpod2 with no
    luck. It starts to
copy it, but is never able to finish it.
If you know of anyone that can do this, please
    let me know.
    Thanks,
    Henry

I don't know if the ipod still works with my old windows laptop- wouldn't it erase all the data if I plugged it in to an empty itunes library? :/
And uhm... no, basically. It's not showing up on anything on the macbook, though on the ipod screen it says it's charging, which is what's quite puzzling.
Yeah, my ipod was transferring music until about a week ago or so, so I thought it probably wasn't that, but better safe than sorry!
The ipod itself seems to be fine- I was listening to it this morning, no problems at all. I guess it could be the cable- but I don't have another ipod to try on my macbook, if that's what you meant.
I'll see if I can go into the nearest Apple store sometime this week and see if they have anything to say about this!
    Anyway thanks for the reply!
