30P to 24P audio problem

Hi all,
quick question that I cannot ind an answer to: I shot at 30, and I want to slow it down to 24 for a slight slow mo look, I right click the file in PP, interpret footage-23.98 then try playing it in the source monitor, it looks and sounds great (albeit audio that sounds like Barry White) Once I drag it into the Sequence which is at 23.976, the video looks the same, but the audio is early by several seconds (still Barry Whitish, but very off)
Any ideas?  I need the slow audio synced in the final output so I can re-do the vocals and match to the slowed down mouth movements.
I'm on a Mac 2008 8 core, Snow Leopard, 12 GB RAM, etc.
Thanks!

Don't use Interpret Footage.  Right click the clip and change it's Speed/Duration.

  • 24P Audio Problem on burned Disc

I have an asset that was shot and compressed at 23.98. When I bring it in to Studio Pro 4 it plays fine ... audio is synced and all is good. (Although, the inspector says it is a 29.97 file ... I assume this isn't an issue though ... I can confirm that it is compressed at the correct fps.)
Anyway, once I burn the disc the audio seams a hair out of sync with the piece when played on external DVD players ... confirmed on multiple DVD decks. Maddening! Lips don't quite match. What in the heck am I doing wrong?!?!
    Thoughts anyone?

Is the audio lagging or in advance right off the bat, and remaining at the same rate of missmatch throughout, or is it slowly going out of sync?
Is the audio AIFF or AC3?
If AIFF, this may be the problem even though the format is in the DVD spec.
Are you viewing on a consumer large screen (42" or larger) LCD or Plasma?
Some displays without lip sync adjustability built-in will pass the audio milliseconds before the video (always before, not after).
Improper lip sync drives me crazy watching network TV.
( and a few commercial DVDs as well)
    The standard is too loose.
I use a Felston DD540 to correct the audio on some channels.

  • 30p-24p conversion problem

    Hi,
    Not sure if this is the right place to ask question;
    A client has asked me to fix a video;
I was given a 1h 36m video that has gone through cinema tools to go from 30p to 24p, then it was put into compressor to speed up the audio. This method was taken from the Philip Bloom tutorial,
Philip Bloom Blog Archive How to convert Canon 5dmk2 footage from 30p to 24p...
The finished result is a (56g 24p Apple Interm Codec) video that is too slow. The video needs to be sped up.
The aduio/ video are in sync its just too slow. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how to speed up the whole file? The finished video needs to go onto DVD.
None of the original 30p footage is available all I have to work with is the 24p 56g file,
would compressor work if I change the timing from 01.36.13 to 01.05.13?? A bit of trial and error? I presume there must be a much easier way of doing this,
    Any suggestions/ help with this would be greatly appreciated;
    Cheers,
    Daniel

You did a CONFORM didn't you? Does the Philip Bloom tutorial really tell you to use Cinema Tools and CONFORM? I find that odd, as what Conform does is turn your footage...frame for frame, from one speed to another. So 30fps converted frame for frame to 24fps, will be slower. This is one trick we use to get good smooth slow motion, NOT how to convert 30p footage into 24p footage that plays at the same speed.
And one major thing to note about this process is that it is DESTRUCTIVE. Meaning that it alters the original QT file. Which is why I tell people to duplicate the file first, as you can't go back once you do this.
So that Bloom Tutorial told you to use Cinema Tools to CONFORM the clip? Really? That seems like poor advice. And you don't have the camera original file? You MODIFIED the original file? Because the original is H.264, and FCP doesn't like to edit H.264, and that needs to be converted to ProRes before you can edit...so you didn't do that either?

  • How do I convert frame rate from 30p to 24p????

I am about to start post on a short film shot on the mark II. I am going to convert the footage to ProRes. The director wants the "film" look. Can I change the frame rate from 30p to 24p in compressor? Are there any key settings I should know about?

There are lot of different ways to go about it, all have mixed results, and there is no way you'll get flawless results. However, here's a few ways to try:
    A) Conform to 23.98, using Cinema Tools - You'll be slowing down the footage, so this is no good if you have on-set dialogue recording you're going to keep and need lip sync. If you weren't going to use any on-set audio and doing all dialogue and FX replacement, it wouldn't matter. This is also effective for music videos - just speed up the audio playback while shooting, and when you slow the video down in post, it'll match.
    B) Use retiming in Compressor - I believe this uses some advanced frame blending and optical flow - I've had decent results with this method, but you can end up with some artifacts on high motion material.
    C) Use Twixtor within FCP or Adobe After Effects. This has been my preferred method for surgical speed manipulation. It's time consuming and just like method B, you'll get artifacts on high motion material.
What you definitely do NOT want to do is drop your 30p footage into a 24p timeline. The motion will be horribly stuttery. Similarly, don't try to just use frame blending to achieve the frame rate conversion - it's not very impressive to see frame blending all over everything.
You're best results will come from having low motion footage. Interviews, head shots, etc. work great. If you're doing a lot of action, I'd advise against trying to convert using anything but method A. If you can get your hands on the 7D, you can shoot 24p natively.

  • 30p to 24p transfer

From all the past issues with artifacts from going to 30p to 24P, im wondering if this has been taken care of in the new compressor and if there's one of those ridiculously long processes to get a somewhat decent transfer. If not, would AE do something along those lines?

I'm not sure of the answer, but I can say that without the additional temporal resolution of 60i, it'd be hard to convert to 24p. If the footage is not sync, you could use Cinema Tools to change the frame rate to 24P. It'd slow it down by a fifth, which is why it won't work for sync stuff, but it'd work otherwise (unless Cinema Tools has a problem with HDV)...

  • Audio Problem since upgrading to Mountain Lion

Has anyone encountered audio problems with their iMac?  I just upgraded to Mountain Lion on my i7 27" with 16GB of Ram and found that the Audio starts to get distorted and eventually cuts out after about an hour!  It starts cutting in and out when I move the mouse and eventually there will be no sound at all!
Sometimes it can take over an hour of steady use, my last time was watching a movie on Netflix.  I initially noticed this using a USB DAC Headphone Amp.
I never had any Audio problems before, my machine is over 1 year old.
I enjoy watching movies in iTunes and DVDs, but this is making it difficult!  A full restart usually fixes the problem for a time but it will eventually come back
I'm seriously thinking of going back to Lion for the time being and seeing if it is a Hardware problem.

i don't know if mine is the same issue, but i had no sound through any of my applications after upgrading to mountain lion.  here is what i had to do to fix it:
-- applications > utilities > audio midi setup > UNmute all options under "built-in output" (they were mysteriously muted)
Also, I noticed that the options for "use this device for sound output" and "play alerts & sound effects through this device" were no longer assigned to my Built-in Output device.  They were assigned to some other random sound driver.  To fix, i right-clicked on Built-in Output and reassigned those items to my built in speakers.  All fixed now!
    very weird problem, though.

  • Can Apple fix the 12 bit audio problem once and for all?

I have had persistent audio problems from I Life V3 all the way up to I Life 06. Sometimes it is synch issues. Sometimes it is audio dropping out. I have been through the various forums and applied the various remedies with some successs, some failure. The basic problem is that I have an extensive quantity of Mini DV tapes dating back to 1997, most recorded with 12 bit sound (prior to 2002). Apple's basic stance has been, you must use 16 bit sound or I Movie and/or I DVD won't work and . And proposes awkward workarounds. Basically placing the onus on it's own consumers. Why can't 12 bit sound support be included in I DVD 06 and these persistent audio issues put to rest once and for all? Is there some overwhelming technical reason why it cannot be done?

I don't know about overwhelming, but the DVD specification (which was not developed by Apple) calls for the audio to be sampled at 16-bit/48KHz (I think you might also be able to use 96KHz as well). This is what the software expects. If you choose to use another sample rate then the software may or may not be able to "fix" it in post. The real problem is that many camcorder manufactures set the audio to 12-bit by default.

  • HOW TO FIX NO AUDIO PROBLEM IN FLASH (4 SOLUTIONS)

This solution is for WINDOWS ONLY!!! Unfortunately I believe
it is a bug in flash itself as I have read more than one instance
of this same no audio problem occuring on MAC'S and LINUX based
systems as well. IF YOU KNOW OF SOLUTIONS TO THE MAC OR LINUX BASED
PROBLEMS, PLEASE POST THEM IN THIS THREAD.
Description of the problem: Video sites such as YouTube,
VideoSift, Break, Google Videos, Yahoo, and a plethora of others do
not stream embedded audio. Viewing a YouTube video, for example, on
VideoSift.com results in the video playing back with no audio.
However, by going directly to YouTube and playing back the same
    video, it appears to work.
    THERE ARE SEVERAL POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS.
Problem: You may be missing your WAVEMAPPER driver.
Cause: Wavemapper driver was removed during installation or
updating of the Flash Player. It might not necessarily be Flash
that removes it but apparently something does.
Solution #1: Google "Flash No Audio WAVEMAPPER" for
directions, its been covered a bunch, but basically requires
running REGEDIT and readding the WAVEMAPPER key to the appropriate
location and value in the registry. Its not as difficult as it
    sounds.
    http://weyland.be/wrdprss/index.php/2006/08/22/no-sound-in-macromedia-flash-player-9/
if your wavemapper key is installed correctly...
Possible Cause: Corrupted or damaged flash content preventing
    audio streaming from working correctly.
Soltuion #2: Run CC Cleaner and delete only cached Flash
content. It is a free program, again just google "download CC
Cleaner". This particular solution worked for me.
If CC Cleaner also does not work, the description of your
problem may differ slightly. In my case on several computers, one
day it worked, the next day it didnt. If it never worked, this
would be a logical solution for you. One variation of this that I
have found is to create a new Windows User Account and log into it.
The reason the CC Cleaner method may work better is that the User
Accounts have their own separate cache folders so a corrupted cache
preventing audio playback on one profile will not be available on
the other User Account to cause the same problem. I wont explain
how to do this as the CC Cleaner will work better but if you are
curious, yet again google "create new windows user accounts". I
have also seen this method work on one of my affected computers but
it did not fix the issue on the account I was having problems with.
    http://www.ccleaner.com Install
and run it, use it only to remove Flash under the Applications Tab,
Multimedia, Adobe Flash Player. Check it and uncheck everything
else, then hit Analyze then Run Cleaner.
    Possible Cause: Missing Codec
Solution #2: Download and install the K-Lite Codec pack.
Again, google it. A CODEC stands for COmpressor DECompressor and is
a way to make audio and video files small enough to be transferred
on the internet. There are a lot of different codecs and if you
want to play back a video that was compressed using a particular
codec, you will need that same corresponding codec to decompress
your media source and view its content. Basically if you dont have
a codec, you cant observe the content of the media. If you have a
VCR and want to play back a DVD, you are out of luck unless you get
a DVD Player. DivX and XVid Codecs are some of the very popular
codecs used on the net, but to get those, I still suggest getting
    the K-Lite Codec Pack.
    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
Solution #4: Go back to Flash 7. If it aint broke dont fix
it. This Final alternative is only to be used as a last resort.
You'll have to get rid of Flash 9 and go back to Flash 7. The
really tricky part here is that you have to prevent Flash from auto
updating itself. If you install Flash 7, and hit up YouTube, you'll
immediately get Flash 9+ installed again with the same problems. So
AFTER you uninstall Flash 9 (use Macromedias / Adobes uninstaller,
yet again go google it) make a new text file and name it MMS.CFG,
in the file put this one line "AutoUpdateDisable=1" (without the
quotes) and put it in BOTH your c:\windows\system32 AND
c:\windows\system32\Macromed\Flash folders. This will prevent flash
from Auto Updating to 9+, then have to find some place to download
the old flash 7 installer. I found one here.
    http://www.intercomm.com/downloads/Flash7.
Only problem is that most sites will try to make you install Flash
9 and Flash 7 does not work on all sites, but it does on some like
YouTube. DO NOT UPDATE TO FLASH 9+ IF YOU USE THIS METHOD.
You will probably want to IMMEDIATELY go to
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager05.htm l
after installing Flash 7 and UNCHECK the update feature
I've tried to write this quick little guide at 3AM so Im not
going to take more time to research other ways to fix this problem.
If you have other solutions, such as for MAC and LINUX, or feel
like adding on to something else that I've written here (links
would be useful to the downloads I suggested) or correcting any
mistakes I probably have made, please say so.
One of these solutions is bound to help you. Theres multiple
causes for this no audio problem so there is obviously multiple
    fixes.

  • Audio Problems in Adobe Presenter: Help Needed Urgently!!

I am using trial versions of Adobe Presenter 7 and Adobe Connect 8.
I created a presentation in in Powerpoint 2002 and published through Adobe Presenter to Adobe Connect Pro. This presentation has voice over recorded through the Adobe Presenter "record audio" option.
In Adobe Connect Pro, I created a meeting and shared the above mentioned presentation through the "Share Document" option in Connect Pro.
Now, when I play the presentation in this Adobe Connect Meeting, I am not getting any audio that was recorded in Adobe Presenter. Whereas if I play the published presentation directly it plays the recorded audio.
Can anyone help me on this?
    1. Are there any settings to be done in Powerpoint or Adobe Presenter or Connect pro?
    2. Is it the problem of Trial Account or something like that?
Please let me know the solution. Need to work on this ASAP!!!
    Thanks in Advance,
    Yogini

This is a weird one. If you created a prezo with audio and published it to AC (Adobe Connect) and everything worked fine on your desktop then it should work fine in AC i.e. there are no other settings required on AC's side, it should just play.
As I am typing this I thought of similar audio problems that we have experienced in the past. A big one would be where another user created a PPT on their laptops and handed it to us. When testing the audio did not work. Reason being is that not all the files were coppied over BUT I must accept that this is not your problem as it definately worked on your PC before you published it to AC.
Wait there is one setting in the publish settings. In the output options tick "Upload source presentation with assests", then tick audio.
I cannot think of anything else. There is a man called Heyward Drummond on the Adobe Connect General forum, who is a real master at answering queries like this. Why not post your query there and see if he comes up with an answer?

  • Audio Problems when burning

I have tried making disc image, burning disc and the audio will pause for second several times in the play back. It does not do it when playing back in iDVD.
The slide show was started in iPhoto and sent to iDVD. I have started over several times and still same issue. Makes a bad impression and is really not useable for presentation.
I have 30 gigs free space, changed settings to Professional encoding and still same issue. I have no open apps, changed all energy settings and screen saver to never.
Any ideas, I am fresh out, never had this problem with previous version.

    Andy,
This question is really in the wrong place - this is the iDVD '08 forum and not the iDVD 5 forum.
From the description of your problem using Toast, it sounds like you didn't actually export a DV video movie out of iMovie.
Export a DV video movie out of iMovie (it will run 13 GB per hour) and play it back with the QuickTime Player to see if the audio settings you made are really there. If this movie plays OK, you can bring IT into iDVD or Toast for turning it into a DVD.
If the DV video movie you created STILL has audio problems in the QuickTime Player, ask you question about THAT issue in the correct iMovie forum.

  • IMovie audio problems when burning in Toast 6

    Hi,
i've tried to burn an imovie project in idvd 5 but i get 'the error #-1 was reported' like most people have been and i've tried loads of things suggested to fix it with no joy.
I then sent the imovie project to toast titanium 6 where it burned fine. However, when i watched it i noticed that although toast had picked up all the audio (both dv audio and aiff), it did not pick up all the volume adjustments during the movie. how annoying! for example: i have an aiff clip that fades into a movie clip with the sound gradually going down but Toast picks up the sound staying at the same level. this also happens with volume adjustments in a DV file.
Any suggestions why this happens / how i can fix it?
    Cheers,

  • Any Bluetooth audio problems since upgrading to ICS?

    Hi.
Was wondering if anyone has had any Bluetooth audio problems since upgrading to ICS?  In particular, have you had any stuttering and/or pauses in streaming since the upgrade?
I use a MW600 with my phone and I get stuttering and pauses every few minutes between the phone and the MW600 which is very annoying - to the point where I can't reliably use the phone for audio any more.
    Thanks

Sorry but it seems to be a problem some users are experiencing. It's already been reported so hopefully there will be a fix for this soon.

I have an audio problem. When I plug in my headphones, sound continues to come out through the speakers. The headphones work though (I could plug it in elsewhere and still hear sounds) and there's no problems with the headphone jack (I did a test through my audio control panels and I could hear the tones). There can be some goofy audio problems. One recommendation is to Extract the Audio from your problem clip while in iMovie and see if this makes a difference in the DVD. [this creates a separate sound file, which sometimes fixes audio problems]
The point where the audio stops -- is it the beginning of a clip? near a transition? or?
