30p to dvd ntsc

Hi everyone,
can 30p project in fcp output to an ntsc dvd & play on tv Ok? or it would be tearing down by the interlacing of ntsc as 60i?
reason I ask is that the new sony V1u can record 30p & if that 30p project can mix with SD30f uncompress project then I would want to shoot in 30p instead of 24p.
**have to mix with some Dbeta footage* when mastering so what is the best way?
shoot 24pA & digitize into fcp as 60i (that the sony automatically did that).
or
shoot 30p? ( don't know the edit process yet)
thank you,
JP

Shoot 30p. Capture as 29.97 NTSC DV... you're done. no interlacing should be introduced.
There's a lot of confusion about frame rates, because we're using new terms for recording formats. Like 24p is a recording format that is really NTSC video - 29.97 fps with a pulldown pattern of fields in a DV camera... 30p has no pulldown pattern. it's really 29.97 too. make sense?
There are cameras that record 60 fps, and flag the frames you choose, like the varicam. And I thought digital video would be easier than analog. LOL...

  • CS4 and pillarboxing 1920x1080 AVCHD to 16:9 DVD NTSC

    I'm new to Premiere CS4.  I'm using Canon HF11 30p MTS files, so I'm  using the 1080i30 (60i) settings.
I Import my AVCHD files.  When I try to  use Adobe Media Encoder CS4 to downsample the 1920x1080 AVCHD to 16:9  DVD NTSC or DV I get  pillarboxing on the sides of the DVD file.  I don't in  any of my other video editing programs.  Why do I ONLY see this in Premiere, and  how can I fix it?  I've never seen a video editor not 'stretch' the video to fill the entire 720x480 'screen' with the correct aspect ratio played on the TV.
I read about and already understood apect ratios:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/4.0/WS03BF7479-8C7B-4522-8C75-210AD102524Ea.html#W S9058AE69-455C-49c2-AD1B-35DA227B376Aa
And this sounds like it's about my problem but doesn't help since the MPEG2-DVD setting in AME doesn't allow me to choose square pixels:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/325/325883.html
Here's the output showing the pillarboxing:
    Here's the source tab:

For CS4, Adobe "fixed" the non-square pixel aspect ratios to conform to BBC and Orange Book standards.  For years Adobe apps have had the wrong PARs.  It's now been fixed across the entire suite of Adobe applications.  The technical solution involves Production Aperture, Clean Aperture and more math than I care to review.
If you'd like to try to get your head around it, this link may be helpful:

The bottom line is that what you are seeing now is correct.

  • Going HD 24fps to standard DVD NTSC

    Hey everyone,
I've been working with HD projects for a couple years, but I now have to bring them to DVD NTSC format to ship out to potential employers. I mainly work in the following format:
    1280x720 HD (Square Pixels)
    24 fps
    Progressive (No Fields)
So, what's the best way to get this down to proper format (720x480, 0.9 pixel aspect, 29.97 fps) without hiccups and quality loss? I have the Adobe suite, so access to Premiere, AE, and Encore are no problem. HD/Blu-Ray formats are also out of the question. Thanks for the help in advance! :D

  • 30p for DVD?

I have acquired some source DV tapes at 30p. But, as I remember the DVD spec for NTSC, the players recognize 24p but not 30p. Can someone please confirm this?
What I think this means for my project is that DVDSP will not accept a 30p input. So the best approach would be for me to convert my 30p to 60i in compressor. Is this correct?
Now I know that the BluRay case is different and that spec does accept both 24p and 30p for 480p mode. So my question only concerns DVD and standard definition.
    Thanks,
    John

I'd export the 1080 timeline using current settings and let Compressor work with that. I just did it with a 720p file and it worked fine.

  • HDV to DVD (NTSC)

    Hi,
I am desperately trying to get a viewable SD-DVD version of HDV footage.
I am following the simple 2-step procedure:
    1. Export in HDV
    2. Use Compressor 2 to get DVD-90min best quality
I have no major problem in PAL, but when I transfer everything into NTSC, the 1st step is still fine but the second step gives me horrible horizontal lines on the edge of moving parts of the image. I tried all sorts of configurations for de-interlacing and field dominance but it does not seem to do any better.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? This is quite urgent, I have to send the film to Japan by the end of next week...
    Thanks.

    Jean:
I don't work with HDV but have heard good opinions about this workflow in these forums: Bonsai’s HDV to DVD page.
    Hope it helps !

  • HD 1080i PAL to DVD NTSC

I've learned a tremendous amount from reading the forum, and this is the first time I've been compelled to post - I am stuck!
My basic question is what is the best way to go from 1920 x 1080i AVCHD 25 fps PAL source footage edited in its native format in Premiere CS4 to a SD NTSC DVD authored in Encore?  I'm fine with losing quality, but I've been getting choppy video in transitions and audio sync problems, and that's not acceptable.
I've tried using the dynamic link and transcoding in Encore with all sorts of different settings and usually end up with the audio going out of sync in a couple spots and some unexpected frames in transitions that cause jumps.  The best I've come up with is encoding to NTSC 23.976 fps progressive, 2 pass VBR which still has slightly choppy zooms.
The sequence is about 27 minutes and takes 2 hours to transcode to NTSC 23.976 fps WITHOUT using the maximum quality option.  If I select maximum quality then it takes over 24 hours (!!) and the quality is actually worse (jumps in transitions and audio sync problems).  Could this be due to the "frame blending" bug that I've read about in AME?
I realize I'm dealing with two major issues: frame rate and resolution.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Thanks for the quick replies, everyone.  It seems that there were some specific edits that were causing audio syncing and video glitches - they were fine in the Premiere project, but would cause problems when exported.  I spent some time exporting (directly from Premiere without multiplexing or changing the frame rate) those specific sections that were giving me problems.  I couldn't get anything to work consistently.  Finally, out of desperation, I tried exporting to tape and it worked!  It rendered to 1080 50i HDV and recorded to my Sony HDR-HC9 without any problems.  Then I recaptured it into Premiere and was able to export it from Premiere into both PAL and NTSC standard definition Encore projects without any problems.  I think it must have been some problem with way Premiere was trying to export the original AVCHD clips and/or the way they were edited together.  I'm not really sure what it was, but I'm relieved it finally worked.

  • PAL DVD - NTSC DV

I have been trying to convert a PAL DVD to NTSC DV.
I have tried iMovie, MPEG Stremclip, MPEG2 Works 4 and JES Deinterlacer. The NTSC comes out okay but if there is a slight motion in the video, there are lines/combs ?
Is this normal for PAL to NTSC conversions or is their something I can do to filter this out ?
    Thanks.

I'd first convert the PAL DVD/VOB to PAL DV via MPEG Streamclip.
Then I'd convert the PAL DV to NTSC DV via JES Deinterlacer.
DVD can be either bottom field first or top field first but DV is always bottom field first. A wrong setting in the conversion can produce very irritating flicker if the field dominance ends wrong. But the procedure above should automagically use the right settings.
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~shmhav/SVCDon_aMacintosh.html#interlacing
if there is a slight motion in the video, there are lines/combs ?
This might be normal interlacing and even preferred if the output is meant for a TV.
You might want to enable progressive output in JES Deinterlacer if the output is meant for a computer monitor or if for some strange reason you prefer progressive output on a TV.

  • DVD-PAL to DVD-NTSC

    Hi everybody.
I have a problem. I have a PAL DVD which I need to turn into a NTSC DVD. I'm talking proper DVDs, .vob and everything. Is there anyway to do this?
Please, any advice would be great, I'm completely lost. I don't have any experience with this sort of thing.
    Thanks.
    Bye,
    Mircea

Did you make the DVD in the first place?
If you did you will have all the video's in PAL which you can transcode to NTSC.
Open the project and resave under a new name, remove all the videos and then set the project to NTSC.
Pull all the NTSC videos back in and re-link.
But sounds like you don't, there are ways to get at the video but you will have to remake the menus. There are also flags in the encoding which tell the DVD player what region it can play in, which you will have to change also.

  • Transfer a DVD NTSC to PAL

hello How can i transfer a NTSC DVD with menu to PAL? .... Thanks

You are missing the point of Skalicki's post.
I will repeat it for you.
*NTSC DVD disks will just work on PAL playback devices.*
There is no need to convert your disc to anything else.

  • NTSC : I have mixed 24p & 30p footage, what should my AME mpg2 dvd settings be? "Lot's of Jittering"

    I have mixed 24p & 30p footage...
    1) Adobe Media Encoder: what should my mpg2 dvd settings be?
    2) PP CS5.5: What should my sequence settings be?
I am outputting to BR & dvd  ntsc. I'm getting a lot of jitter, mostly with the panned footage.
    I have cs5.5 pc.24 gigs ram, raid
    I have 24P & 30p 1920/1080  footage

    Couple of things.
Jitter while panning is not uncommon, even for Hollywood, if the pan is too fast.  24 fps just doesn't lend itself well to smooth pans if you go too fast.  So keep in mind that this is something that may not be fixable without a reshoot.
Next, 30p can't go onto Blu-ray at any resolution.  You're limited to interlaced at 30 fps.
With those caveats out of the way, I'd ask how was the 24p captured?  What camera was used and in what mode?

  • How do I convert my DVD home movies (NTSC format) to mpeg 4 format??

3 yrs ago I had my home movies (super 8) onto DVDS (NTSC format.
I would like to convert to mpeg4 so that I can import into imovie and Quicktime player 10
I just installed Snow Leopard 10.6

I would recommend that you convert the DVDs to Apple Intermediate Codec, then edit your movies, then share the final movie in mpeg4 (h.264). This will preserve the most quality. However, the method I will describe will also work to convert your DVD directly into MPEG4.
    1) Download and install the Apple MPEG2 QuickTime Component ($20) - available online from Apple.
    2) Download and install MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (free).
    3) Start MPEG Streamclip
    4) Insert your DVD into your Mac. If DVD Player or Front Row starts automatically quit those.
    5) Open a Finder window. Navigate to your DVD to the Video_TS folder.
    6) Drag the .VOB files from the Video_TS folder and drop then into MPEG Streamclip.
    7) If MPEG Streamclip offers to fix timecode breaks, say yes.
    8) Use FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME to convert the files to Apple Intermediate Codec (or h.264 if you prefer)
9a) Optional: You can deinterlace your footage in this step, if you like
9b) optional: If you know the date and or time of the footage, name your file
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss
(let mpeg streamclip provide the extension). This will provide metadata that iMovie will use to put the event in the right year and month.
9c) Optional: If you don't want to make one huge clip out of your DVD, you can make smaller clips by using MPEG Streamclip. Move the cursor to the "in" point of the clip, and press i. Move the cursor to the "Out" point of the clip, and press o. Then do steps 8 through 10 and repeat until you have done this for all clips you want.
    10) Save the resulting file in a place where you can find it, like your Desktop.
    11) Open iMovie.
    12) In iMovie, choose FILE/IMPORT/From File and choose the file you saved in steps 8, 9, 10.
    13) iMovie will generate thumbnails and you can edit.

  • Error Exporting DVD Format from PP/Media Encoder

I'm trying to export a rather long project (1.5 hours).  It has several sequences grouped together on one sequence that I've labeled "all".  I'm using Media Encoder, preferences are to create a DVD file and it keeps crashing.  These are my converting settings:
    MPEG-2 DVD
    NTSC 23.97 Wide
    Quality at 75
Bit Rate at 6 using CBR (I just want to see if it works, then I'll up the quality)
When I read the error log report it mentions files that have nothing to do with that project at all.
The project I'm working on is called Yeldell Event and this is a sample error...
    - Source File: /Users/mendezw/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/Geo Interviews.prproj
    - Output File: /Volumes/VideoBackup/CHSS/Geography/Interviews/Angelica V1.mp4

    - Audio: AAC, 128 kbps, 48 kHz, Stereo

    - Encoding Time: 00:05:12
    11/02/2014 06:54:17 PM : Encoding Failed
The Operation was interrupted by user
The Geo Interviews.prproj and Angelica V1.mp4 are completely different files and I've never imported those files into this project.  Why is it referencing them?  There are others also that I didn't list here.  About 5 total, none of which are part of this project.
I'm using a 2013 MacBook Pro, PP CC 8.1.0  I do have a couple other programs open, like Outlook and Safari, but I'm not sure that they would cause the error.
    Please help!  Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, where are all your cache & database files "set" in the PrPro and project dialog preferences? I've found that PrPro tries to lump everything together, and unless I check where anything is set within any project/export, it can decide that a place I included in a different project for some gosh silly reason is where I still want THIS project to use for cache or whatnot. So ... at times I've gone in to check a project and found it had say decided to use the same preview and output file locations/folders from a completely different project, just dumped things in together. Very annoying. Might have some effect here. But again, might not.

  • PSE4 How to burn slide show to DVD

I have created a slide show with over 200 photos and added music. After saving it (which took 45 min.) I want to save it to DVD. When I open the burn page it only has VCD option. How do I get it to burn to DVD. I have a Gateway Computer wit an NEC DVD burner. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    David

    David,
Below is an extract from a discussion I had with others on forums who had your current dilemma. Adobe's answer is generally to use Adobe Premiere Elements to burn the DVD; if you have it installed there is a additional option to burn to DVD on that menu. However, you may have other choices.
If you have a DVD burner, want to make a PSE 3 or 4 slide show that plays on a TV DVD player, and do not have Premiere Elements:
    - create a WMV file using DVD NTSC or DVD PAL (according to your country TV standards) as the OUTPUT parameters
    - then read the doc that came with the software that supports your DVD burner (might be Nero, Sonic, Roxio) looking for a function that will create a Video DVD (note that it must specifically be creating/authoring a VIDEO DVD intended for play on TV rather than just burning a data DVD). Once you find this function, use your WMV file from PSE 4 as the input and choose the software options that give you a video DVD.
Based on my experience and conversing with others on forums, this will give you a DVD that is significantly better quality than the Elements VCD (written to a CD) and but not quite as good as a program that does a slide show direct to DVD. Quality is a subjective judgement, so I am not saying this is the answer for everyone. However, my philosphy is generally to try the software I have first before purchasing additional software.
Notes: For Sonic, I used a MyDVD limited edition that came with my burner. For Nero, I communicated with someone who did it with Nero Vision Express. I don't have any specifics for Roxio.
Notes: Creation of the WMV will almost always take a long time - depending on the number of slides and the number and type of transitions, zooms, pans. Each photo must downsized in resolution, then each individual type of motion must be applied; these photos must then become frame per second video (a significantly different format translation). All this takes time and processor power.
