  • A big deal of data lost after software update

    Hello,
Hopefully someone will look into this problem. I have seen also here other reports of losing data after software update.
I have a Nokia N73 Music Edition. Before I updated the firmware, I used Nokia PC Suite to backup all data in the phone memory as well as the phone settings. After a successful update, I tried to restore the backup. No error occured during the restoration. However, I found out many things hadn't been brought back to my phone, such as messages, notes, as well as landmarks that I saved in Nokia Maps.
I want to know what is going on and if there is any hope to get back those lost pieces. Thank you!
    Best regards,
    Wei

Sorry if your husband didn't backup your phone either to iTunes or icloud prior to updating your phone, then those data is gone.

  • All info lost after software update...need help!

I was running a software update in order to make sure I had the latest on my computer. After I restarted the computer and 10.4.4 was loaded, I went into iTunes, address book, iPhoto and I nothing was there. Now this might be normal, but I was unaware of this and now I have a huge pit in my stomach because I lost a lot of information that took me months to compile. Is there anyway to retrieve any of this (pictures, addresses, music) or am I just out of luck? Thanks for all help in advance.

Turns out those error messages it gave me were because it didn't sync properly and create a backup. Which is why when I restored from backup it didn't reload my old info. Instead of assuring me that I would have the option to restore my info, it would have been nice had it told me that a backup hadn't been completed and that restoring my phone without it would leave me with nothing.
Tech support had me use my old SIM card to import my old contacts. This worked, but I've entered contacts since getting the new phone that aren't on my old SIM. And doing so left me with a bunch of re-organizing to do (deleting, combining, entering First and Last name fields...) it took me several hours.
I didn't get my appointments back, cause my old phone was just a phone, and that info wasn't on the old SIM, but I'm REALLY glad I got my contacts.

  • Mail and much more lost after software updates

Background - I upgraded from G4 with 10.3.9 to Mac Pro 1.1 with 10.4.7 one week ago.
When I was working on my machine Saturday, I got a software update box. I clicked the button to run the various software updates, and left. When I came to work this morning, I opened Firefox and found all my bookmarks gone. Weird. I opened Mail to check on emails, and it gave me the "this is how you set up your account" box.
Bottom line: I have lost all my email (hundreds of messages, dozens of mailboxes, very bad) and Firefox bookmarks (okay, not so dire, but very annoying).
Question: Why did it do this? What did I do to cause this? Why, Lord, why???
    Thanks,
    laurieb
    Mac Pro 1.1   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Maybe I didn't phrase the question clearly. Why did the simple online update (I don't know all what was updated; there's no log to show what was done...) basically zero out/reset all my applications. My fonts are gone as well.
I do still have my working docs as they were on different hard drive from the system and applications. I have email, Firefox bookmarks, fonts, etc. on my old machine, so in a sense, all I lost were 5 days worth of emails and time spent pulling my hair out.
I just want to know what I might have done wrong in the first place to cause this. Just don't want to do it again.
    thanks,

  • HT1688 Can data lost after software update be recovered?

I downloaded iOS6 yesterday and my contacts were wiped out. I did this at the office and was not connected to Wifi or a computer. I restored from a PC backup that was a year old, but now cannot see photos, contacts, or messages that were added after the date of the backup. I do not use iCloud, and did not do a backup prior to downloading the new update. Can the data be recovered? I'm missing about 100 pictures, can only see old texts and am missing recently added contacts--but all of the apps appear to be intact.

This was actually on my dad's phone. I personally don't use iCloud since I'm very good about keeping my own phone backed up. Had I known he wanted to install the update, I would have backed it up before downloading and probably would have waited until I was connected to my home network.

Will the installed Applications in my Nokia E63 work after Software Update? Is the any issue found by somebody?

    Hi steverabs
Unfortunately downgrading back to v12.0.013 is not an option with NSU.
GPS data is found in "Tools"
If you have installed any applications yourself, these will unfortunately have disappeared unless they were on memory card and phone settings were saved to memory card and then restored to phone after upgrade.

Can anyone advise me if it is possible to retrieve my messages from my phone after software update?
I have tried 'some' recovery software but they do not recognise the 'phone' as a part of my pc.
    Has anyone had similar issues?

If you didn't make a backup before updating, all data is lost.

  • Application to restart computer when needed after software updates

We have a business requirement to not force a computer restart immediately after software updates have been installed. What possible solutions are there to detect if a restart is needed on the client and inform the user to restart, if nothing happens force
a restart within a few days.

    Hi,
Windows Update itself have this configuration. You could push the corresponding group policy to achieve it:
    Locate to the following path:
    Local Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update
find No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations
    entry.
For more detailed information, please read this tutorial:

  • Problem restarting after software update

Computer is fine, drive 40% full, no speed problems...
But it just won't restart after software update runs, nor will it restart or shut down from finder.
Problem solving so far: Safe boot, reset pram, ran disk utility, ran disk repair using install disk, ran fsck -y, ran disk warrior.
Is annoying. ANy ideas anyone? If not, what is the procedure for updating using sudate and terminal, as when I use software update, a force shut down will not install.
    ANy ideas folks?

    Some general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 4.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • New iPad with retina display with 30 pin connector mirroring to TV with dvi adapter problems after software update

Hi. Good day to everyone my New iPad with retina display 30 pin connector will not mirror to TV even with divi adapter after software update. Adapter works fine. Or is it a software glitch with IOS 7.04? I've tried resetting and reconnecting nothing seems to work.

That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it...

  • IPhone went bad after software update - iPhone 5 is now stuck on Itunes connect and has vertical lines

iPhone went bad after software update - iPhone 5 is now stuck on Itunes connect and has vertical lines.
I found a video on youtube with similar issues - http://youtu.be/Xuuqxx18-bA
EVERYTHING HAS BEEN TRIED: Restore, Reboot, Recycle, Replacing Cables, etc....
I don't have Apple Care, what to do? Spend more money and buy a new phone?

Here is another person who has a problem with the iPhone 5 screen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc1ZPWSA8dc and they have just received them NEW!!!!!
I myself, two days ago purchased a  2nd hand iPhone 5 that was advertised as having a line of squares at the bottom of the screen. I Googled it and found people saying it was a screen issue and to replace the screen, so I did this and it is still happening with a new screen.
I am starting to dislike Apple intensely after reading forum posts and watching videos where people are asking for help and telling us about issues that they are having with their phones.
Why is Apple getting it so wrong with their updates and manufacturing that they are completely destroying iPhones that cost a lot of money and then expecting the owner to purchase another phone unless they are still in warranty.
Apple you should be going out of your way to put things right for people but instead there is a wall of silence over so many of the issues destroying peoples phones.
    SHAME ON YOU!
