32 bit bridge hitting 1 CPU in Logic?

Is anyone else experiencing this? I appears that all 32 bit bridge plugs are taxed to the same CPU (I'm using an 8-core).
If that is the case, this is a drag...

Try setting Logic to open in 32-bit mode... it will re-scan all plugins. When it's finished and loaded shut Logic down and re-set to open in 64-bit and you should have everything back.
You may also need to delete preferences, try the above first.

  • 32 Bit Bridge for PlugIns in Logic 9 on Mavericks

    Can anybody recommend an app that helps to run 32 Bit PlugIns in Logic on OS 10.9.3 ?

    Logic 9 doesnt need a 32bit Bridge.... There is one built in to Logic Pro 9 that works with LP9 and Mavericks...
    Logic Pro X on the other hand... doesnt have the 32bit bridge.. and so for that you will need an app like 32 Lives found here...

  • Does using the 32 bit bridge place extra load on CPU?

    I've only lately been booting Logic up in 64 bit mode.
    I suspect that using 32 bit plugins via the 32 bit bridge creates more of a CPU load than using the same plugins in 32 bit mode.
    Is that everyone elses experience ?

    Thanks PC that is what I thought.
    I have a lot of Waves plugins for a start and use things like MPX, CLA compressors, Kramer HLS and PYE and all of those use a bit of CPU in 32 bit mode.
    Makes me really appreciate all the 64 bit plugins I have.
    Cheers

    As an overworked professional, I simply have to consider the very viable options out there. Never thought I'd be seriously considering a Cubase product.
    It's a Steinberg product, not a Cubase product.. in case you haven't been paying attention Steinberg developed the virtual instrument for use in it's programs way back in Cubase 3.55.. the plethora of virtual instruments and the advent of low-latency drivers can be directly traced to Steinberg/Cubase development.. Logic also borrowed Cubase's arrange page format back in the 1980's. Cubase has borrowed from Logic to be sure but Steinberg has long been an innovator for many of the things we take for granted today. It was Logic/Emagic who licensed the VST technology and ASIO low latency format to use in Logic 4.xx. It was Apple who adapted VST to it's own AU format. Also, Cubase and Nuendo have undergone a lot more innovation over the past three years, Yamaha has been good as a parent company. Cubase is not Nuendo's little brother by the way, they are very close, same exact audio engine, same robustness, they can exchange files, the only difference being Cubase doesn't have some of the high end post features that Nuendo has. I use both Cubase and Logic and occasionally Nuendo at the University here.. I know both programs fairly well, believe me, both Cubase 6 and 7 can hold their own with any DAW out there, they just don't come with a bunch of ready made loops and preset instruments.
    LogicX will never be able to use 32-bit instruments without a third party solution, nor will it ever include the Bridge. At least according to the people I know.

  • Where to see the PI's that trigger the 32-bit Bridge

    In a Mainstage concert, the 32-bit bridge keeps opening, but I can't figure out which PI's are triggering it. I've eliminated the one easy possibility (NI's Electric Piano) and any instance of Waves PI's. Otherwise, I'm using Omnisphere, Kontakt and the Logic/Mainstage PI's. All with the latest updates. As we know, the bridge is buggy and I wish to avoid using it. Is there an easy way to see somewhere which PI's trigger the Bridge?
    Thanks in advamce.

    Aerol, I can only assume that jimchik2 is wanting to take advantage of the memory advantages of running in 64-bit mode....and I can understand that.  I've also had difficulty in trying to pinpoint which of my plugins trigger the 32-bit bridge (which is a massive pain in the a$$) but have had no luck either.  It'd be nice if there were some way for MS to tell you which plugin triggers the bridge.
    As much as I would've liked to run in 64-bit for the memory advantages, I just ended up staying with 32-bit for now.

  • 32-bit bridge not working in lion

    OK, I know this is early days for me, given that I only upgraded to Lion today, but I've already come up against a significant problem relating to Logic ( 9.1.6 ) and the 32-bit AU bridge, which worked pefectly well for me in Snow Leopard. Sure, it crashed when the computer was idling: a well known issue. But it really did its job when actually required, whereas in Lion, it's simply ceased to work at all now, and I've reverted to 32 bit Logic, for the time being, which really defeats the whole object of even moving to Lion, despite the fact that I'm having to use some 32 bit plugins,etc.
    I was working with Logic, 64-bit in SL and it was fine, and I enjoyed a marked improvement in memory performance. Right now, though, the whole experience is very disappointing. Before I level the blame at anyone/ anything , I just want to know if anyone else is experiencing,er, issues with Lion and the 32-bit bridge. When I first started Logic today, in Lion, it seemed fine. After a few hours, however, the bridge crashed and never recovered. Also, when launching Logic, the aunetreceive stage of the launch would hang around forever. That improved  (though still dwells on it for a long time ), but the 32-bit bridge has just stopped working.
    Can anyone please shed any light on this? I really don't want to revert to SL now, though I backed everything up, so I could easily. I'm liking the look and feel of Lion and feel that Logic should be really sharp in this OS, but it's not feeling quite like that right now.
    Thanks for any advice.
    OK, a big PS. I've just switched back to 64, and the bridge is now working. This doesn't instill confidence, frankly! Can I now ask if anyone is experiencing erratic performance/behaviour of the bridge?!

    OK, so, I've had it with Lion. It's a great interface: I love it and I love the new functions, which should make the computer experience  so much more enjoyable. I'm totally behind this new interface. I'm sure, one day, it'll be wonderfully music-friendly, but, right now, it's ,as they say, PANTS.
    Me? I'm going back to SL, in the warm and comfy knowledge that it'll work predictably, and greet me like an unconditionally affectionate puppy. Well, as predictable and affectionate as is possible in the world of 21st century operating systems.
    Lion, however, reminds me of the bad old days of the first, tentative forays into OS X, after the idyllically safe and reliable world of OS 8/9.
    I can see the motivation, here, of consolidating ios and OSX. In principle, I love that. For me, tablet OS is the future of interfaces. But as far as complex and diverse systems, such as music production, it ain't working right now....

  • A video card issue isn't going to crash 32 bit bridge - is it??!!

    So I'm having the same occasional 32 bit bridge crashes as everyone else, then I simply replace an intermittently malfunctioning fan on my Nvidia GT120 video card, and immediately I have 32 bit bridge crashes gone wild! As in a few seconds after start up of any Logic project that used 32 bit plugs. Entirely crippling.
    Just a coincidence regarding the video card / fan ya think?
    Everything else seems to be functioning fine on the system.

    Ahem. SORRY for the false alarm blabbering.... this episode turns out to be just another of my usual dufus-ish stunts.
    When reconnecting stuff after installing that fan, a USB cable to a Line 6 Gear Box interface that serves as a dongle was left unpulgged. THAT was my problem.
    NEVERMIND.

  • Where is the 32-bit Bridge stored in SL?

    i am having huge problems since moving from10.5.8 9.1.5 to 10.6.8 9.1.7. A very well informed member of the SL forum is helping me try to sort out why my iMac screen locks in place when I open Logic pro to a project with EWQL Choirs,the EW stuff seems so badly done that they claim 3.0.37 is 64-bit but the bridge still opens and the screen is locked in place, I can move the mouse but clicking on anything has no effect,keyboard shortcuts are lockked[unavailable] too. I have been asked in the SL forum to remove the bridge to see if that is the cause of the locked screen, but I can't locate the bridge.Does anyone know where it is located IN SL?

    Thanks Pancenter, You are as always a fountain of good advice. I tried to install the 7Dev kit but got a message that my system did not need it, do you think that was correct,it refused to install it so I don't know what I could do to get it installed unless you can tell a secret way to do that.Would putting Logic in 32-bit mode fix that and allow me to install it?
    With help from the 10.6 forum I localised the problem to EW Choirs, a project with that in it was used in was the last thing I was working on before up grading to ****10.6.8. So it was the first project that opened when I opened Logic Pro 9.1.7,and we were not sure if it was the bridge which of course opened too or the bad software from EW that was causing the screen to lock up tight. After I trashed the trashy EW choirs stuff the iMac seems to be working as before, some things in 10.6 are even better: the mail inbox no longer needs 2 full minutes to find its way  from the external boot to the screen, Chrome deletes its search when I tell it to so I can check my gmail,Chrome gets very irritated because I never sign in-it keeps throwing pop ups "Sign in now or all your friends will wonder what you ate for breakfast!!",yeah right. Chrome has however no problem with my extentions to block cookies, JAVA and ads ,they even provide the apps for it. I suppose they figure I will eventually want to switch from Mac mail to gmail but it ain't happening. i am going to spend the needed time to learn Harmony Assistant and hope it can replace the EW choirs,at least with the Myriad software the screen doesn't lock up, and it has 5 or more languages that its singers can read, in EWChoirs you have to use amercan english and then try to figure out how that would sound when singing Italian using a Phonetic language.  The version I had was supposed to be 64-bit, in "more info" it said this app was x86-64-bit,whatever that means,I installed it 3 times but it always malfunctioned,big hassle and no consonants and practically no tech help, sometimes but very prone to petulance.
    As to your idea, I thank you for showing how to get rid of 32-bit plug ins and tell the developers they need to follow Apples law and switch to 64-bit. Open in 32-bit mode and trash any plug ins that aren't 64 bit. I had already checked and realized that most of the third party plug ins have Logic variants that would not need the bridge. Am I right about Logic's own FX? they would not need the 32-bit bridge would they? And since I am after simplicity and clear sounds I use subtractive eq-ing to remove unwanted noise instead of boosting up the volume of sounds I think should be more present, not logical, but thats me.

  • 32 bit bridge problem...

    I'm Using Logic 9.1.1 in 64bit mode.
    but '32 bit unit bridge' doesn't support the memory more than 4Gbs.
    I'm wondering if it would support over 4 GBs after the update or is it possible to activate more than two of them now (without updating the program) ?

    Yes that is a limitation of 32bit applications,one of the main advantages of running Logic Pro in 64bit is that you can use as much RAM as you have installed in your system.
    Have you checked if the plug-ins you use and are currently 32bit have an update and are able to run in 64bit?

    Which update?
    32bit applications are limited to 4GB of application memory.

  • (CS4) Photoshop 32Bit + Bridge + Win7 = CPU 100% all the time

    This is something that occurred to me many times now:
    I need to use the 32Bit-Version of Photoshop because of all the Plugins I use and some of them run ONLY on one of them at a time, like PixelBender ( W H Y ? ? ? )
    So: Whenever I have Photoshop 32bits running (because it would default to 64bits where my plugins are not available) and open Bridge afterwards to open a file in PS, Photoshop stays at 100% CPU (on one of the cores) all the time without any reason. I also checked if there were selections active (yes, selections sometimes pretty much need a LOT of CPU power, whyever!)
    Otherwise, when I first start Bridge and THEN Photoshop 32Bits, the CPU usage is okay. Something seems using up much CPU power in some kind of endless loop / dead lock or something?!
    It's quite annoying, because I don't use Bridge that often. Sometimes I want to start Bridge "on demand". And if I have opened Photoshop already I would have to close down everything just to be able to start Bridge again without losing a full CPU core.
    So if anyone has the same issues like me: Just reverse the opening order: First open Bridge, THEN open Photoshop and everything should be fine.

    I don't have an answer to your question about the infinite loop, but I can answer this:
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    Ninarama wrote:

    ( W H Y ? ? ? )
    A plugin is a special kind of callable function library (Dynamic Link Library, or DLL in Windows speak).  A 32 bit DLL cannot be used by a 64 bit version of Photoshop.  In order to use the completely different instruction set the processor provides for 64 bit operation, the plugin code must be compiled specifically for 64 bit operation.
    All plugins developed before the time of Photoshop CS4 were originally developed as 32 bit applications, because Photoshop was only 32 bit.  Even today, 32 bit users outnumber 64 bit users by a large margin.
    Microsoft makes it almost trivially easy to compile 32 bit source code as a 64 bit application, BUT...  If the programmer hasn't been careful in his use of data types - specifically those that will be a different size (e.g., a pointer will be increased from 32 bits to 64 bits), then doing so - even if the software compiles successfully - might yield a non-functional plugin.
    Sadly, many programmers are not careful with their use of data types.  This is 30+ years of software engineering talking.
    With good design and good coding practices, the code will be good and the programmer will be able to compile a 64 bit plugin quickly.  Even bad code can be cleaned up in time, so that it can be made to work in 64 bit form.
    But there's even more that must be done...
    Most serious software uses an installer.
    Installing software on a 64 bit system requires big changes to the installation package, or maybe even a whole new installer.  There is, for example, the added complexity that you, the user, might want the proper variant of the plugin installed into each of your 32 bit and 64 bit Photoshop installations.  And possibly multiples (e.g., CS4, CS5).  Creating a good installer package is somewhat akin to designing a rocket booster.  Except that the latter is generally agreed to be easier.
    And all this is just on the Windows side!  It must be repeated for the Mac, assuming the plugin is marketed into that segment as well.
    So...  If your favorite plugin doesn't run under Photoshop x64, and the author doesn't have an upgrade available that does, maybe they are struggling to make it work, maybe they decided the x64 user market isn't big enough for their attention right now, or maybe they're just working on something else.
    Probably more than you wanted to know, eh?

  • 32 bit bridge (?)

    Hi,
    Logic Pro X Tech Specs say it requires "64 bit plugins".  Does it still have the 32bit bridge?  Some of my plugins are still 32bit, and work fine in Logic 9 with the 32bit bridge.  At the moment, for me, this is a deal breaker.  Does anyone know the details?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi mate, 64 bit plugins only i am afraid.  No bridge.
    Although there are ways around it if you are desperate, how good they are i could not tell you, sorry.

  • Overloading CPU with Logic is now making me think of Pro Tools

    I ma having quite few issues with Logic Pro latelty, my system is updated to latest OS version with 24GB of Ram, Saffire 54 itnerface (firewire) and 8 cores (late 2009 model). I run Logic in 64 bit and yes, I do use plugins and software instruments.
    In the current project I have one of the 16 threads overloaded while all the other ones do nothing. Even when I stop playing that thread doesn't go back to 0, only if i reset logic via some change in the audio configuration.
    In the project I use Kontakt4 as multi output but hte project is pretty simple, 12 audio trakcs (3 of them with Amplitube3) 2 software instruments, 3 aux bus (two with space designer and one with delay designer) plus soem other aux for sidechain kick and tom on the bass compressor, Drum mix down (Kontakt is doing 6 setero outputs) with compressor/eq/and a couple of other plugin, some Blue Cat analisys plugin on the master bus.
    Mind that all the audio tracks are also frozen and nothing else is running on my system (beside services, but remember ... with the 24GB i do not even see disk access on this project and quite a lot of free ram!).
    I am getting really annoied with this problem with logic and everything start as I build aux channel for mix and processing, before that everything was fine and happen on a lot of projects I have even simple ones.
    I am not getting hte same problems with Pro Tools (software only, not native) and I am slightly moving more and more work over it ... Any clue?? I do not want to leave Logic, love it too much.
    Almsot forgot, buffer I/O 1024 and the buffer size is Large
    Thanks for the help.

    Here are some screen shot, I did as in the article you mention, a little bit better but not a big saver, here is my mixer view
    Note the transport here, is not playing but one of the core is anyway really busy
    And this is the CPU meter when playing with no track frozen
    Hope you have some nice idea or that some one from Apple reads this.
    If i build the same setup with Pro Tools everything goes smooth.
    Thanks

  • Is there a way on logic studio to laterally link songs for live settings. I never switched to ableton as my tracks are not as loop based and am trying to figure out a way to create a stream of linked songs without blowing out my cpu- maybe logic studio?

    i think my question is in the header but i have this dream of taking a string of tracks(songs) and having them synched in a way that I can bring in a kick of one while my synth line from the last is still running- like spinning records but this sounds like a dream because that means two songs would have to be up at once and not only that but timed to be playing at once (all tracks connected to external controllers too) and the CPU would be crazy. This idea would be for the developers to figure out a way to create a system that allows the host song to fade out as the new one comes in in terms of power and their would have to be a new interface that would link the two. i am an electronic dance music producer and some songs are 8 minutes long with some of the tracks as composition piano styles that is hard to loop up and put inside a system like ableton to trigger and the accompanying string lines that are timed against the pianos so was just looking for a way to embed from track to track... any thoughts out there- i am now switching over to studio from pro for 4 years so maybe it's already done but for some reason - i think not. Hope my question is not too silly for the serious pro's out there.
    Also, maybe logic should have an appendage platform to each individual track that has a pop and play interface to it that allows people to easily trigger and play each song live. Each song has a live version that has a brighter easier platform to see at night shows and it is still embedded within the original track-- then these appendage live songs can then be linked together. This appendage could be called LOGIC LIVE tracks.

    I almost forgot that using folders can allow each folder to contain a song. I also recall touch tracks or one key play...

  • Vivado 2015.2: Simulation and synthesis reverse bit order of std_logic_vector in logical operators

    In both simulation and synthesis the logical operators on std_logic_vector bit-reverse the operands in the result, at least in the case where the result of the expression is passed to a function.
    I suspect this issue applies to other operators as well, though I have only tested the problem with the logical operators. I also suspect the issue exists in other situations where a function is not involved.
    This is incompatible with both ModelSim simulation and XST synthesis and it breaks a lot of our code.
    The attached xsim7.vhd example shows the issue. The xsim7.tcl script will run the Vivado simulation. Under Windows, the xsim7.bat will run the whole thing. The xsim7.xpr project file allows synthesis under Vivado, and you can look at the schematic to see the issue in the synthesized netlist.
    The source module also simulates under ModelSim and synthesizes under XST, and these show what I believe to be correct behavior.
    Can someone please verify this error and either file a CR or tell me to file an SR?
    Ian Lewis
    www.mstarlabs.com

    Hello Bharath,
    When I said "what was index 'LOW becomes index 'HIGH" I meant the 'LOW of the source operands and the 'HIGH of the result, independent of the actual index range. I would have no problem with any 'HIGH and 'LOW on the result of the operator as long as the direction matched the left source operand, though personally I would prefer the same 'HIGH and 'LOW as that of the left operand.
    Looking at the IEEE implementation of logical "or" on std_logic_vector from package std_logic_1164: https://standards.ieee.org/downloads/1076/1076.2-1996/std_logic_1164-body.vhdl:
    -- or
    FUNCTION "or" ( l,r : std_logic_vector ) RETURN std_logic_vector IS
    ALIAS lv : std_logic_vector ( 1 TO l'LENGTH ) IS l;
    ALIAS rv : std_logic_vector ( 1 TO r'LENGTH ) IS r;
    VARIABLE result : std_logic_vector ( 1 TO l'LENGTH );
    BEGIN
    IF ( l'LENGTH /= r'LENGTH ) THEN
    ASSERT FALSE
    REPORT "arguments of overloaded 'or' operator are not of the same length"
    SEVERITY FAILURE;
    ELSE
    FOR i IN result'RANGE LOOP
    result(i) := or_table (lv(i), rv(i));
    END LOOP;
    END IF;
    RETURN result;
    END "or";
    the operator does exactly what Vivado seems to be doing: alias the downto source vectors to a to range of 1 to 'LENGTH and then return a vector of 1 to 'LENGTH. This both bit reverses the downto indexes (the alias on the source operands does that) and changes the range to "to" with a 'LOW value of 1.
    This gives us the 'LEFT 1 and 'RIGHT 4 we see.
    So far, I have found no definition from IEEE of what logical operators, such as "or", are supposed to do on std_logic_vector except as defined by this piece of code for "or" and the other operators' associated bodies from the std_logic_1164 package.
    What this code does seems like a horrible decision about how to implement the logical operators on std_logic_vector with respect to range direction, but it is compatible with what Vivado does, and incompatible with what XST does. (I had never investigated this issue before because what ModelSim and XST did made perfect sense to me.)
    That the assignment  (Result := s)  works as expected, makes sense. The assignment of the "to" range s to the "downto" range Result maintains the 'LEFT relationship. That is, Result'LEFT (index 3) receives s'LEFT (index 1). So, the bits are reversed a second time.
    That ISIM does not match what XST does seems like a defect no matter how you look at it. Your simulation can never match your synthesis if you care about the range direction inside a function (and I suspect in other places too). This deserves an SR or CR if you are still doing any work on those two tools. I think you may not be.
    Are you able to find out whether Vivado was changed from XST on purpose with respect to the behavior of logical operators?
    If this is "as designed" then I have to start working on updating our code to live with it. But, if this is something that happened by accident, and you will change Vivado to match XST, then I probably want to wait. Updating our code to live with this behavior is going to be a pretty big job.
    Thank you for your help,
    Ian

  • Everytime I hit play on Logic the arpeggiator starts playing

    Hi there. I'm having a problems with my arpeggiator on Logic Pro 10.1.0
    The main problem is every time I play my track the arpeggiator turns itself on automatically and the arpeggiator is set to arpeggiate the drums so they just go crazy.
    I'm trying to bind certain things to my MIDI keyboard, for example I'm binding the play button on the arpeggiator to a button on my keyboard and I'm binding the speed of the arpeggiator to a knob on my keyboard. I could get the knob to work momentarily but not anymore. Whereas the button to activate the play button on the arpeggiator doesn't work unless I have that certain channel selected.
    My main problem is of course the fact that it turns itself on automatically when I hit play on the track because the amount of times I have to stop my track then play it again is an annoying amount as my arpeggiator is out to get at me. As for the MIDI keyboard, which is a Samsung Graphite 25 is it a problem with the keyboard or is it Logic?
    Thanks in advance!

    How about turning off the Arpeggiator?
    Hover pointer over slot, then click on "powerbutton" on the left:
    How about removing the Arpeggiator? (clue: this time it is on the right side of the slot)
    or the powerbutton on the Arp itself:
