32 bit bridge (?)

Hi,
Logic Pro X Tech Specs say it requires "64 bit plugins".  Does it still have the 32bit bridge?  Some of my plugins are still 32bit, and work fine in Logic 9 with the 32bit bridge.  At the moment, for me, this is a deal breaker.  Does anyone know the details?
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi mate, 64 bit plugins only i am afraid.  No bridge.
Although there are ways around it if you are desperate, how good they are i could not tell you, sorry.

  • Where to see the PI's that trigger the 32-bit Bridge

In a Mainstage concert, the 32-bit bridge keeps opening, but I can't figure out which PI's are triggering it. I've eliminated the one easy possibility (NI's Electric Piano) and any instance of Waves PI's. Otherwise, I'm using Omnisphere, Kontakt and the Logic/Mainstage PI's. All with the latest updates. As we know, the bridge is buggy and I wish to avoid using it. Is there an easy way to see somewhere which PI's trigger the Bridge?
    Thanks in advamce.

Aerol, I can only assume that jimchik2 is wanting to take advantage of the memory advantages of running in 64-bit mode....and I can understand that.  I've also had difficulty in trying to pinpoint which of my plugins trigger the 32-bit bridge (which is a massive pain in the a$$) but have had no luck either.  It'd be nice if there were some way for MS to tell you which plugin triggers the bridge.
As much as I would've liked to run in 64-bit for the memory advantages, I just ended up staying with 32-bit for now.

  • 32-bit bridge not working in lion

OK, I know this is early days for me, given that I only upgraded to Lion today, but I've already come up against a significant problem relating to Logic ( 9.1.6 ) and the 32-bit AU bridge, which worked pefectly well for me in Snow Leopard. Sure, it crashed when the computer was idling: a well known issue. But it really did its job when actually required, whereas in Lion, it's simply ceased to work at all now, and I've reverted to 32 bit Logic, for the time being, which really defeats the whole object of even moving to Lion, despite the fact that I'm having to use some 32 bit plugins, etc.
I was working with Logic, 64-bit in SL and it was fine, and I enjoyed a marked improvement in memory performance. Right now, though, the whole experience is very disappointing. Before I level the blame at anyone/ anything , I just want to know if anyone else is experiencing,er, issues with Lion and the 32-bit bridge. When I first started Logic today, in Lion, it seemed fine. After a few hours, however, the bridge crashed and never recovered. Also, when launching Logic, the aunetreceive stage of the launch would hang around forever. That improved  (though still dwells on it for a long time ), but the 32-bit bridge has just stopped working.
Can anyone please shed any light on this? I really don't want to revert to SL now, though I backed everything up, so I could easily. I'm liking the look and feel of Lion and feel that Logic should be really sharp in this OS, but it's not feeling quite like that right now.
    Thanks for any advice.
OK, a big PS. I've just switched back to 64, and the bridge is now working. This doesn't instill confidence, frankly! Can I now ask if anyone is experiencing erratic performance/behaviour of the bridge?!

OK, so, I've had it with Lion. It's a great interface: I love it and I love the new functions, which should make the computer experience  so much more enjoyable. I'm totally behind this new interface. I'm sure, one day, it'll be wonderfully music-friendly, but, right now, it's ,as they say, PANTS.
Me? I'm going back to SL, in the warm and comfy knowledge that it'll work predictably, and greet me like an unconditionally affectionate puppy. Well, as predictable and affectionate as is possible in the world of 21st century operating systems.
Lion, however, reminds me of the bad old days of the first, tentative forays into OS X, after the idyllically safe and reliable world of OS 8/9.
I can see the motivation, here, of consolidating ios and OSX. In principle, I love that. For me, tablet OS is the future of interfaces. But as far as complex and diverse systems, such as music production, it ain't working right now....

  • 32 bit bridge hitting 1 CPU in Logic?

Is anyone else experiencing this? I appears that all 32 bit bridge plugs are taxed to the same CPU (I'm using an 8-core).
If that is the case, this is a drag...

Try setting Logic to open in 32-bit mode... it will re-scan all plugins. When it's finished and loaded shut Logic down and re-set to open in 64-bit and you should have everything back.
You may also need to delete preferences, try the above first.

  • A video card issue isn't going to crash 32 bit bridge - is it??!!

So I'm having the same occasional 32 bit bridge crashes as everyone else, then I simply replace an intermittently malfunctioning fan on my Nvidia GT120 video card, and immediately I have 32 bit bridge crashes gone wild! As in a few seconds after start up of any Logic project that used 32 bit plugs. Entirely crippling.
Just a coincidence regarding the video card / fan ya think?
Everything else seems to be functioning fine on the system.

Ahem. SORRY for the false alarm blabbering.... this episode turns out to be just another of my usual dufus-ish stunts.
When reconnecting stuff after installing that fan, a USB cable to a Line 6 Gear Box interface that serves as a dongle was left unpulgged. THAT was my problem.
    NEVERMIND.

As an overworked professional, I simply have to consider the very viable options out there. Never thought I'd be seriously considering a Cubase product.
It's a Steinberg product, not a Cubase product.. in case you haven't been paying attention Steinberg developed the virtual instrument for use in it's programs way back in Cubase 3.55.. the plethora of virtual instruments and the advent of low-latency drivers can be directly traced to Steinberg/Cubase development.. Logic also borrowed Cubase's arrange page format back in the 1980's. Cubase has borrowed from Logic to be sure but Steinberg has long been an innovator for many of the things we take for granted today. It was Logic/Emagic who licensed the VST technology and ASIO low latency format to use in Logic 4.xx. It was Apple who adapted VST to it's own AU format. Also, Cubase and Nuendo have undergone a lot more innovation over the past three years, Yamaha has been good as a parent company. Cubase is not Nuendo's little brother by the way, they are very close, same exact audio engine, same robustness, they can exchange files, the only difference being Cubase doesn't have some of the high end post features that Nuendo has. I use both Cubase and Logic and occasionally Nuendo at the University here.. I know both programs fairly well, believe me, both Cubase 6 and 7 can hold their own with any DAW out there, they just don't come with a bunch of ready made loops and preset instruments.
LogicX will never be able to use 32-bit instruments without a third party solution, nor will it ever include the Bridge. At least according to the people I know.

  • Where is the 32-bit Bridge stored in SL?

i am having huge problems since moving from10.5.8 9.1.5 to 10.6.8 9.1.7. A very well informed member of the SL forum is helping me try to sort out why my iMac screen locks in place when I open Logic pro to a project with EWQL Choirs, the EW stuff seems so badly done that they claim 3.0.37 is 64-bit but the bridge still opens and the screen is locked in place, I can move the mouse but clicking on anything has no effect, keyboard shortcuts are lockked[unavailable] too. I have been asked in the SL forum to remove the bridge to see if that is the cause of the locked screen, but I can't locate the bridge.Does anyone know where it is located IN SL?

Thanks Pancenter, You are as always a fountain of good advice. I tried to install the 7Dev kit but got a message that my system did not need it, do you think that was correct,it refused to install it so I don't know what I could do to get it installed unless you can tell a secret way to do that.Would putting Logic in 32-bit mode fix that and allow me to install it?
With help from the 10.6 forum I localised the problem to EW Choirs, a project with that in it was used in was the last thing I was working on before up grading to ****10.6.8. So it was the first project that opened when I opened Logic Pro 9.1.7,and we were not sure if it was the bridge which of course opened too or the bad software from EW that was causing the screen to lock up tight. After I trashed the trashy EW choirs stuff the iMac seems to be working as before, some things in 10.6 are even better: the mail inbox no longer needs 2 full minutes to find its way  from the external boot to the screen, Chrome deletes its search when I tell it to so I can check my gmail,Chrome gets very irritated because I never sign in-it keeps throwing pop ups "Sign in now or all your friends will wonder what you ate for breakfast!!",yeah right. Chrome has however no problem with my extentions to block cookies, JAVA and ads ,they even provide the apps for it. I suppose they figure I will eventually want to switch from Mac mail to gmail but it ain't happening. i am going to spend the needed time to learn Harmony Assistant and hope it can replace the EW choirs,at least with the Myriad software the screen doesn't lock up, and it has 5 or more languages that its singers can read, in EWChoirs you have to use amercan english and then try to figure out how that would sound when singing Italian using a Phonetic language.  The version I had was supposed to be 64-bit, in "more info" it said this app was x86-64-bit,whatever that means,I installed it 3 times but it always malfunctioned, big hassle and no consonants and practically no tech help, sometimes but very prone to petulance.
As to your idea, I thank you for showing how to get rid of 32-bit plug ins and tell the developers they need to follow Apples law and switch to 64-bit. Open in 32-bit mode and trash any plug ins that aren't 64 bit. I had already checked and realized that most of the third party plug ins have Logic variants that would not need the bridge. Am I right about Logic's own FX? they would not need the 32-bit bridge would they? And since I am after simplicity and clear sounds I use subtractive eq-ing to remove unwanted noise instead of boosting up the volume of sounds I think should be more present, not logical, but thats me.

  • Does using the 32 bit bridge place extra load on CPU?

I've only lately been booting Logic up in 64 bit mode.
I suspect that using 32 bit plugins via the 32 bit bridge creates more of a CPU load than using the same plugins in 32 bit mode.
Is that everyone elses experience ?

Thanks PC that is what I thought.
I have a lot of Waves plugins for a start and use things like MPX, CLA compressors, Kramer HLS and PYE and all of those use a bit of CPU in 32 bit mode.
Makes me really appreciate all the 64 bit plugins I have.

  • 32 bit bridge problem...

    I'm Using Logic 9.1.1 in 64bit mode.
but '32 bit unit bridge' doesn't support the memory more than 4Gbs.
I'm wondering if it would support over 4 GBs after the update or is it possible to activate more than two of them now (without updating the program) ?

Yes that is a limitation of 32bit applications, one of the main advantages of running Logic Pro in 64bit is that you can use as much RAM as you have installed in your system.
Have you checked if the plug-ins you use and are currently 32bit have an update and are able to run in 64bit?

    Which update?

  • 32 Bit Bridge for PlugIns in Logic 9 on Mavericks

Can anybody recommend an app that helps to run 32 Bit PlugIns in Logic on OS 10.9.3 ?

Logic 9 doesnt need a 32bit Bridge.... There is one built in to Logic Pro 9 that works with LP9 and Mavericks...
Logic Pro X on the other hand... doesnt have the 32bit bridge.. and so for that you will need an app like 32 Lives found here...

  • How to turn off the 32-bit bridge interface dialogue?

    Hi guys,

    Thanks Eddie

No. The plugins are running in a separate app.

  • Browse in Adobe Bridge CS6 - default to 64-bit version

I have Adobe Bridge CS6 32-bit and 64-bit installed. I prefer to use the 64-bit version, but whenever I right-click a folder in Windows Explorer and choose 'Browse in Adobe Bridge CS6', the 32-bit version always opens. How can I make this default to the 64-bit version? There doesn't seem to be a way to uninstall the 32-bit version.

    Edit your System Registry on:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Bridge
Change the path that is pointing at 32bit version and set it to point at the location of 64bit version:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS6 (64 Bit)\Bridge.exe "%L"

  • 32 Bit Audio Bridge RAM use rises slowly then crashes Bridge

I've seen a previous thread on this which is now locked, does anyone else know how to stop this from occuring?
Basically when I am using BFD2 with Logic running in 64 bit mode it all works great, but the RAM usage of the 32 bit audio bridge just keeps rising and rising slowly until eventually after 20-30 minutes it crashes the bridge and I have to relaunch the bridge. The main program seems unaffected, but it is a bit annoying and really disrupts my workflow.
Anyone else experiencing this with other plug ins? I've purchase iFreeMem, which seems to help lower the RAM again but it takes just as long to do it as relaunching the 32 bit bridge after a crash.

Hi, I am on a 2007 iMac and just moved up from10.5.8 to 10.6.8,and this bridge pops open everytime I open a Logic Pro Project with the Play choirs in it. It doesn't crash,it locks the screen so nothing can be done and the only escape is a hard force quite using the start button. I complained to EW and they said as always repair permissions,I did and installed 3.0.37 which should be 64-bit,the system log says it isx86-64-bit,whatever that means. My RAMM use doesn't go up but with everything locked I'm doing nothing that would use RAM. Trying to load EW instruments always stops and says "File not Found" this dialog window then opens up for locating the file, it always opens to the place where the file is, and the Choose option never lights up. This happens when trying to load a multi of altos,,,but the warning says it can't locate the sopranos file-insanely bad software, maybe it works perfectly on a PC.
