32 bit HDR - black pixel speckling when Remove Ghosts checked

Hi,
I'm using LR4.4, PS CS5 12.0.4, OS X 10.6.8. I'm able to view the 32 bit TIF back in LR, but when I zoom in to 2:1, I can see obvious speckling of mostly black pixels in various dark parts of the image. This only happens when I have Remove Ghosts checked. I actually had just thought of doing a test without it checked to confirm my suspicion, and I was right. Unfortunately I need it checked for some of the images with motion.

Here's a very noticeable example. Others are less apparent.

And I'm getting these dialogs, which I don't think have any relevance.

I am having a similar problem with Merge to HDR from Lightroom 4 to CS6.
First of all, here is the dark exposure processed entirely in Lightroom.  As you can see there is good shadow detail and no blown highlights:

Now here is the image using the darkest and lightest (of 3 exposures) manually blended.  Here the shadow detail is naturally better (although it isn't obvious on the small image shown here):
Now here is the image from HDR Pro with remove ghosts on the darkest of the 3 images.  As you can see there is very bad (practically no) shadow detail (look at the hillside on the left):
Here is the HDR Pro with remove ghosts on the middle of the 3 images.  As you can see the clouds are badly blown/posterised:
And here is the HDR Pro with remove ghosts on the most over-exposed image.  As you can see the sky is completely messed up:
Essentially unusable for this sort of image.  Hope this gets fixed soon!!

  • Merge to HDR, Remove Ghosts looks awful

I'm geting really ugly "Merge to HDR" results in Photoshop CS6 that were not present in CS5.5. It only happens when using the "Remove Ghosts" checkbox
    I use a Panasonic Lumix G2
    Photoshop CS6
    Lightrom 4
    Camera Raw 7
I'm trying to merge RAW images to HDR. I use Adobe Lightroom 4.
    1) I right click on multiple RAW exposure images
    2) Edit In > Merge to HDR Pro in Photoshop
    3) After aligning and merging, I use the "remove ghosts"option, but it creates really ugly blown-out areas on my preview image. The result is just as bad after clicking "OK" and the "creating file" box is done. I can see another thread discussing this in the Photoshop CS6 Beta (read only) area. The guy was using a Panasonic Lumix GH2,(mine's a G2) so maybe it's an isue with RAW support for Panasonic's Raw format. http://forums.adobe.com/message/4290247
Im having this exact issue also.

Please see my comments in this thread about how I've found Merge to HDR nothing useful:

If you have Photoshop installed select the exposure bracketed images and go to menu Photo> Edit In> Merge to HDR Pro in Photoshop.

  • CS6 64 HD Pro remove ghost disabled

Hi I'm using CS6 and trying to blend 2 images to HDR using the merge to HD Pro feature. I have used it before but now it appears that I can't select remove ghosts or select an image for prioritizing ghosts
I have tried photomatrix Pro and thats fine (but it was a trial).
I have tried impoting NEF, tiff and jpegs with no luck. I have also tried different bit depths which didn't help.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I'm having exactly the same problem.  Had no trouble with CS5, but when I "upgraded" to Photoshop CC, this problem started happening.  The option to remove ghosts is grayed out regardless of whether the Merge to HDR was initiated in Bridge, Photoshop, or Lightroom.  Anyone have any ideas?  It doesn't seem to matter if the files are NEF, JPG, TIF...

  • 32 bit HDR panorama .tiff editable in Camera Raw???

I recently did a photoshoot with a car. It was the first time that I planned to professionally use 32 bit HDR merging. I shot 4 exposures of the front of the car from the side, and shot another 4 at the same brackets of the back of the car while mounted on the tripod.
    Here's exactly what I'm trying to do;
Take 2 different 32 bit TIFFs
Align them to be a panorama
Export to a single, true 32 bit TIFF
Adjust & tone that 32 bit panorama TIFF in Camera Raw
I've worked with panoramas plenty of times, but when I take the 32 bit TIFF files into photoshop, I pass through CR without doing anything. Once the TIFFs are in PS, they are converted to an 8 bit mode automatically.
I also tried to take those 8 bit TIFFs, auto-align, switch back to 32 bit mode, and then export as a 32 bit TIFF. I then took the panorama 32 bit TIFF into Camera Raw, but obviously, the damage had already been done and it was not true 32 bit.
    Can anyone please help me?

I've done plenty of 32 bit editing. I love it!
    I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS6.
Right after I merge to HDR pro from Bridge, it is a 32 bit PSD (I pressume it is a PSD, but it does not say for sure because it hasn't been saved yet). But it is one, locked layer titled Background. It will not allow me to unlock or rename. When I use the transform tool to move the layer to the other 32 bit document containing an identically attributed layer (It is the rest of the panorama), it just shows me a black prohibition sign and doesn't let me move it.

  • G5 Black & white video when booted from install DVD

It has been years since I installed 10.5 on our G5 so I can not remember if this happened back then but think it did.
When I boot from an install DVD (both the original G5 DVD with Tiger and the MacOS Leopard DVD) the video output drops to 1-bit (dithered black & white) which makes it very hard to discern the text on the shaded buttons in the GUI. The video card is fine - when I hold down the Option key on boot to select the DVD the video is full-color, but as soon as it switches to running from the DVD the video becomes low-rez dithered b&w.
Anyone else see this issue and suggestions on resolving it? The display is a Dell 17" wide model. I don't have another display that is easily swappable to see if it's a problem with it or the Apple DVI-to-VGA adapter.
The G5 tower is a first-generation 2x2 (2CPUs, 2GHz) with 2 DVI ports on the video card (can't recall which card I ordered back then).

Great to hear, thanks for the report!
I suspect what happened, was that the Install also changed some PRAM or NVRAM setting, those are where number of colors are held.
Some earlier Macs store these settings in PRAM:
    Status of AppleTalk
Serial Port Configuration and Port definition
    Alarm clock setting
    Application font
    Serial printer location
    Autokey rate
    Autokey delay
    Speaker volume
    Attention (beep) sound
    Double-click time
Caret blink time (insertion point rate)
    Mouse scaling (mouse speed)

    Menu blink count

  • I see only black screen windows when upload pdf documents in safari

Hi. I see only black screen windows when upload pdf documents in Safari. Also in old version of Safari, and in old System. In some windows, i can save the document, only now i can see this, open from pdf reader. Thank for some info.

    Back up all data.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Draw line between black pixel : coordinates of selected pixels ?

    Hi
I want to build a script which can check a Photoshop file and :
    - find black pixel
    - for each black pixel, look for another black pixel within maximum distance of 5 pixels
    - then draw a line between the two black pixels.
I wrote this script below (my first script ...), but it's VERY slow (and my final image is VERY big), I think because I test the colour for each pixel of the image.
So another solution would be to first select black pixel with magic wand, then the script save all coordinates of selected pixels, then my script wil test only this pixels (less than 1% of the pixels are black in my image).
Is it possible with JavaScript ?
Thank you for your response !

The first alert should have shown the first pathPoint.anchors for all the subPaths in the path.
The xyArray is just something I added for the alerts. The array 'myPathInfo' should have all the info extracted from the path.
myPathInfo.length will tell you how many subPaths are in the Path.
myPathInfo[index].entireSubPath.length will tell you how many pathPoints are in that subPath
myPathInfo[index].entireSubPath[index].anchor will tell you the position of that pathPoint.
    The indexes start with zero.
The bounding box of the entire subPath can be hard to work out just from the pathPoints. Unless all the point are corner points the path may extend beyond the anchors. One think you can do is create a new path from just one of the subPaths, convert by to a selection, and then get the bounds from the selection. You can make a new path from a subPath using the 'myPathInfo' array from above.
    app.activeDocument.pathItems.add("myPath1", [myPathInfo[0]]);
That line will make a new path from the first subPath. Change the index to use a different subPath.
Some other info that may help.
app.activeDocument.histogram[0] will tell you how may black pixels are in the document. But its no help determining where they are. If that returns 0 there are no black pixels.
If you don't have any luck working with converting the original color range selection into a path and need to go back to searching with the colorSampler it may help to use a grid approach. For example make a square selection, the size depending on how scattered the black pixels are, say 25x25px. Then use color range to select black. With an active selection it will only select pixels in that selected area( if any). You could then check to see if there is a selection. If not make another same size square to the right edge of the last area. If there is a selection, the solid property will tell you if more than one black pixel was selected( unless they are right next to each other ). If solid == true the selection bounds will tell you where the pixel is. If false you have to then search that square. But if there are areas where there are no black pixels checking a square range of pixels at once should be quite a bit faster than checking every pixel. And checking the historgram first will let you know if you should bother searching to start with.

  • CS6 32-bit HDR files open as 8-bit in Camera Raw 7.3

As the title says my 32-bit HDR files open as 8-bit in Camera Raw 7.3.  I have a Win 7 32-bit system.  I create the 32-bit HDR and then save it as a 32-bit TIFF but when I open it in PS CS6 via Camera Raw 7.3 it comes in as only 8-bit.

As far as i know acr won't output an 32 bits/channel file (hdr), but you should be able to change acr so photoshop gets a 16 bits/channel image by clicking on the
Workflow Options at the bottom of the acr dialog and set the depth to 16 bits/channel.

  • Bug with big Black Pixel on Photoshop CC

    Hi,
I recently install Photoshop CC (iMac 2,8 Ghz Intel Core i5, 16Go 1333 Mhz DDR33, Mavericks)
When using different layers, I have a HUGE BLACK PIXEL coming on the picture (365x365px) , often on the low lef corner.
It disapears when I strongly zoom inside but it comes back when I zoom out...
    Any idea please ????

    Many thx Mylenium,
it seems to be working right now without OpenCL... I also had a bug with zoom in and zoom out but it seems to be ok too...
    I hope it will continue..
(I use to work on heavy pictures with many layers, hope everything will not be too slow without OpenCL)

  • Ugly banding in sky (32-bit HDR)

I've seen this a few times now, and decided to ask if anyone else has come across it.
When developing 32-bit HDR images in Lightroom (merged in Photoshop) I sometimes get these discoloured bands across the sky. (Top left corner.)
I tried to see if any of the sliders (clarity/shadows/highlights/etc) caused these coloured bands, but they are there even if I reset everything and just lower the exposure to get the colour back in the sky:
For comparison, here is the -3 EV exposure which was part of the (three-frame) HDR. As you can('t) see, there is no banding going on here:

Canon only offers this capability to pros shooting 1 series bodies, but you can still shoot six images almost as fast with other bodies like your 7D.
Adjust all the camera settings normally used for HDR shoots. Next set Exposure Comp./AEB for ±2 EV exposure bracketing, shift it -3 EV (-5, -3, -1) and save to Camera User Setting C1. Next shift the ±2 EV bracket to +3 EV (+1, +3, +5) and save to custom function C2. Shoot the first bracket with Camera User setting C1, select C2 and shoot the second bracket. You will have six 2 EV spaced exposures spanning 10 EV (-5, -3, -1, +1, +3, +5) from which you can select the best three, five, or even all seven for the HDR merge.
You could also use a ±1 1/3 EV bracket, which will give you six images spanning  6 2/3 EV. This is more than the 6 EV range you're using now and with less than 1/2 the EV spacing. You can select the best five images based on the scene exposure, or use all six.
This of course assumes you don't need the two custom functions for other purposes and are using a tripod. I use a Canon RC-6 remote to help prevent tripod shake. You must set the camera's drive mode to 10 sec. or 2 sec Timer/Remote Control and set the RC-6 remote switch to the lower setting ( not 2 sec. delay). Canon's documentation on remote usage isn't very detailed so it took me a while to figure this out.  This also works best when shooting tripod mounted without the remote, since the 2 sec. delay lets the tripod settle after pushing the shutter button with your finger.
There are more costly alternatives like the 'Promote' remote controller or running tethered with a laptop.

    hi all,
the official link to the stream of the latest Apple Special Event (http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/sep_2006/event/index.html) doesn't work for me.
When I click the "Watch the Special Event" button, QT 7.1.3 starts but just with a 1 second lasting 1x1 black pixel.
    Anybody else with this problem?
I reenabled Flash in the settings and HTTP with port 80 as protocol but that didn't help. Before the upgrade to 7.1.3 I was able to watch every Apple Event stream with no problem at all!
    strange thing ...
    thx
    Stefan.

    works now.
    changed nothing.
just tried again and again and again.
maybe Apple changed something, maybe it still was the tremendous demand.
