32 bit or 64 bit Vista...Help

I have Vista 32 bit Home Premium installled on a KN8 Neo MS-7030 mobo, Athlon64 3700+, with 2 GB DDR, my question is if I can install Vista Home Premium 64 bit on this system. Will I have to up date all drivers, do a clean install or can i save my programs and music and just do an update. Dont know if it will make my PC do funny things like when I tried to install Vista for the first time. And if I ca what steps should I take to install the 64 bit ver. Thanks.

I own vista ultimate 32bits edition on my main ring, thats good enough for me, But I've to notice u that when system in idle (any programs running) the task manager shows me 0-10% cpu use, and 40% of my 2GBddr2 almost 800 MB ram!  that pretty much! only to start vista! (With aero enable and some gadgets hehe), But in normal operating mode, vista will not spence more that 1,3GB (max 65% of ram use) of ram that's running photoshop cs2 + WMP 11+ iexplorer + msn + word + excel + 2 or 3 more programs , 2GB for me is enough! nothin about 4GB thats a MADNESS!  KEPT 32bits ed not x64!

  • Windows Vista - 32-bit or 64-bit

    Hi all,
I'm building a new machine and I'll be installing everything from scratch. LR is pretty much the only heavy-weight program I use and the main reason for getting a new machine.
I'm wondering if LR would work better in 32-bit or 64-bit Vista? I know the 64-bit version would have higher memory limits available but in terms of computational power would there be a difference. I'd think not but I'd don't know that for a fact.
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Nick,
Over the past 6 months I went from XP32-bit to Vista 64-bit, same machine with a fresh install.  I had the xp "switch" turned on to allow around 3.2GB memory of the 4GB installed.  The speed increase going to Vista 64 was close to double in most of the LR functions.  It is ABSOLUTELY worth migrating to 64-bit.
In the end though, my single core, hyperthreaded processor still would not allow me to use the adjustment brush since it basically goes to 100% utilization and stays there for 10 seconds for each small stroke and created streaks across the page when moving to turn the brush off.  I basically did not use it at all.  Thus, when I built my new machine a couple of weeks ago I decided to try Windows7.  Love it for LR.
So ... in my opinion you definitely want to go to 64-bit and Windows7.  The Windows7 has all the feel of Vista64 with (in my case) none of the conflicts, etc.  Four cores and 8GB of memory would also be my suggested minimum.
    Hope this helps.

Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
(The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?
If you still have the same error messages cropping up, then try the procedures from the following user tip:

    Awesome dude,
Thanks for well described reply. I enjoyed it specially when I found out you don't work for Lenovo.
I am curious to know something. I could buy Windows 7 Bit for a very good price form Microsoft offers for university students that it probably cost me the same price as recovery media. Do you think it is a good idea to install a totally fresh windows 7 (NOT from the recovery media) on my t400s?
I am asking this because when you install operation system with provided recovery Media it builds another partition
with this name SERVICEV003 that is about 2 Gb and contains system files and stuff related to my laptop. I am afraid if I install windows without using recovery media but using Microsoft original DVDs then my laptop doesn't function properly?
What is your idea about this issue,
Thanks again for all your help, I appreciate it,

  • Firefox 4.0 can't read Adobe 10.2 or that is what my computer is telling me because Adobe can't be supported on a 64 bit version. Can you help?

My computer is telling me that the new version of Adobe can't be supported on Firefox version 4.0 because it is a 64 bit web browser and Adobe needs a 32 bit web browser can you help?

If you have a copy of it backed up, restore that. If not, back up your computer, upgrade it to Mavericks, and then get the current iPhoto version. If you don't have it backed up and don't want to upgrade, go to the Mac App Store main page, click on Support under Quick Links, contact Apple, and see what they say.

  • Use Vista 32 bit or 64 bit?

I want to install Vista home premium on my SR 2.4 MBP that has 4 gb ram using Bootcamp. I would install it to an external Passport drive that connects to the MBP with USB.
    Has anyone done this successfully?
Is there any benefit or drawback to installing the 32 bit or 64 bit version of Vista on a MBP that can only have 4 gb ram?
Will I have problems installing my Windows software that works on XP 32 bit on Vista 32 bit or 64 bit? I'm thinking of MS Office, Adobe master collection and Poser 6 as the software I plan to install.
    Thanks for any advice.

This won't work. Boot Camp won't allow installation to an external drive and Windows will not allow booting up from an external drive even you get it installed on a USB/Firewire drive. This limitation is set by Microsoft.
There appears to be one way to get this done but it is not easy and will require following precise procedures to avoid failure. The procedure is mentioned [Here|http://tubeshards.wordpress.com/2006/12/05/install-windows-to-a-macintosh-usb-d rive>. My recommendation is to stay away from installing/running windows from an external drive.
Is there any benefit or drawback to installing the 32 bit or 64 bit version of Vista on a MBP that can only have 4 gb ram?
With a 32Bit version Vista will see and use up to 3GB of RAM. With a 64Bit Version, Vista will see and use all of your 4GB RAM. One thing to note and that is that the boot camp supports 64Bit Vista only on early and late 2008 Mac Book Pros as mentioned [Here|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846]. I am not sure if your Santa Rosa Macbook Pro an early 2008 version or mid 2007 version. If it is the latter than I would recommend going with 32Bit Version of Vista (You should be fine with Vista and 3GB of RAM).

MS Office and Adobe Master Collection should work fine under Vista 32Bit and/or Vista 64Bit however after doing some research, it appears that Poser 6 works with Vista 32Bbit and some folks have had issues installing with Vista 64Bit. Please do some research on the web for Poser 6 and Vista 64Bit.

  • MBP 2.4GHz and Vista: 32-bit or 64-bit?

Is the Core 2 Duo in the MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz a 32-bit or 64-bit CPU?
I was unable to find-out and I need the answer to determine whether I should install the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate on my Boot Camp partition.
As a side-note, I would appreciate comments about the differences/ incentive(s) to install a 64-bit version of the OS vs. the 32-bit.
Thank you in advance for your responses.

All Core 2 Duo processors are 64 bit processors. You can run either the 32 bit version of Vista or the 64 bit version on a 64 bit processor. Apple does not support 64 bit Vista... meaning you may have a heck of a hard time finding drivers for all of the components. BootCamp creates a driver CD with drivers for 32 bit versions of XP and Vista... but not 64 bit versions. The benefits of running 64 bit Vista (especially on a notebook limited to 4GB of memory) are nearly non existent. It is unlikely that you will be able to get all of your components functioning properly with 64 bit Vista as you'll have to scour the internet trying to find 64 bit drivers that "might" work. Unless you have a real need for 64 bit Vista (and I'm guessing by your lack of familiarity with the Core 2 Duo being a 64 bit processor... that you probably don't "need" a 64 bit OS)... you'll be better off going with the 32 bit version... with everything working via the drivers provided by Apple.

  • Vista 32-bit or 64-bit

I am looking at getting Windows Vista Ultimate for my Macbook Pro I just got, and I was wondering which bit-version I should get. Will both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions work with Boot Camp? If they both do, would one would be better than the other?

Did you mean to post a link there? nothing showed up.
    also, I thought bootcamp didn't support x64?
I know that you can find the drivers for most things if you hunt for them, but as far as I know things like bluetooth/keyboard/trackpad won't work?

  • "iTunes 7.6 or later is supported with any 64-bit edition of Windows Vista.

"iTunes 7.6 or later is supported with any 64-bit edition of Windows Vista. The installer for 64-bit Vista is named iTunes64Setup.exe instead of iTunesSetup.exe. For more information see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301301"
So now you iPod Shuffles will work! No more returning them to Apple!

I can now setup iTunes on my 64 bit Windows Vista. I've also brought over my library via the home network from my old Windows XP computer (although I needed to use Add folder to Library as the songs were not automatically recognised in the library). However, I can't get the i-Pod to load. At first I got a message saying that I needed to download a driver and now there is no recognition of the iPod at all when I connect. Is there anything I can do?

  • Firefox 32-bit w/ JRE 32-bit on 64-bit Windows OS (Vista, Windows 7)

It describes a solution for making the Firefox plugin work for Java 32-bit & Firefox 32-bit, running on a 64-bit Windows OS. -- I can confirm that this is an issue, and can confirm that this is the fix.
I suspect it's because of the new convention for 32-bit apps (C:\Program Files (x86)\...), and the JRE doesn't recognize that Firefox is there, because it assumes it should be in C:\Program Files\... ?

How do you get the 32bit client to communicate with the 64bit Oracle instance on the same windows box? After installing the 64 bit db and client (on a developer desktop), I installed the 32 bit client to a different oracle home. I could not get it to connect to the listener - what am I doing wrong? Should I reinstall it to the 64bit home - I'm afraid that'll kill everything though.
Also, I think I'm correct in this, but not sure: any 32bit app must use the 32bit client on the 64bit box. MS Access needs 32bit ODBC, which needs 32bit client, etc.

  • CS4 stopped working in Vista 64 (both 32 bit and 64 bit)

Photoshop CS4, both 32 bit and 64 bit have been working great until after the Adobe update process loaded 11.0.1. When I try to start either the 32 bit or the 64 bit version of CS 4, I get the opening screen and then an error message that says, ..."Photoshop CS4 stopped working", and it closes the application.  CS 3 still works fine.  CS4 Bridge works fine.  I have made no changes to PS CS4. Any ideas?

In the event of a situation where the application is unavailable for de-activation, you need to install the program again and, when prompted for activation, call the special (not customer support) number on the screen.
I have never had to try this, but that information has been posted several times.
