32 bit Oracle Software and OS on a 64 bit server.

Does anyone know what would happen or has run into a case where a client site has installed Windows 2003 server 32 bit and Oracle for Windows 32 bit on a Dell 64 bit Windows server?
Here's what we are seeing. Oracle is unable to go past the the 2G limit, but we added the /3G switch and got above 2G but below 3G. On the windows task manager, windows is not even tasking the hardware and memory. In Oracle, it's showing an issue with virtual memory in the EM with a 100% impact. "consider addin more physical memory to host". Also in the EM, when you click on the host name link off the home page, you get a page filled with errors. It's like it not able to pull information from the system. The database is up and functioning, but it's not running well. Due to the fact that this is a production box, it's not likely that in any time will we have them start over and rebuild the box. Any ideas as to what can be done or looked at to help? Does these issues sound indicative of the hardware and software combination the've got.
Thanks,
Mike

How do you get the 32bit client to communicate with the 64bit Oracle instance on the same windows box? After installing the 64 bit db and client (on a developer desktop), I installed the 32 bit client to a different oracle home. I could not get it to connect to the listener - what am I doing wrong? Should I reinstall it to the 64bit home - I'm afraid that'll kill everything though.
Also, I think I'm correct in this, but not sure: any 32bit app must use the 32bit client on the 64bit box. MS Access needs 32bit ODBC, which needs 32bit client, etc.
Thx,
Jeff

  • Can we install Oracle 8i and 10g on the same windows server?

I would like to install the Oracle server 8i and 10g on the same windows server? Is this possible.
Forgive me if this question is already asked.
    Thanks in advance!
    Jay.

WHICH Windows version? (There's more than one). It would be useful to be a little bit more precise (NT,2000,XP,2003, 32/64 bit) .
For NT and 2000 it is possible to have both 8i and 10g, for XP and 2003 there's no support for 8i at all.

  • Separate Oracle Software and Databases?

I need to install the Oracle application software to one disk volume, and allow Oracle to store it's databases on another distinct disk volume. I'm also doing this with a headless response file. I initially thought that the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_BASE settings in the response file may be what I need:
    ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
    ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
However, since ORACLE_HOME is a subdirectory of ORACLE_BASE, I can't mount both locations to different volumes.
    How can I do this?

  • Different software and database user

I want to install oracle software and oracle database on two difference user
    Software user: orasoft
    Primary group: oinstall
    Secondary group: dba
    User Home: /u01/orasoft
    $ORACLE_HOME=/u00/app/oracle/product/10.2.0
/u00: owner: orasoft:oinstall permission 775 (before installing software)
    Database User: oradb
    Primary group: dba
    Secondary group: oinstall
    User Home: /u01/oradb
    In this scenario,
Software is getting installed perfectly; I’m getting permissions issue for creating database
    1. Do I need to change the $ORACLE_HOME permissions to 775 after software installation for the database to get installed without any issue?
    2. if I do this, then the permission executables also gets changed to rwx-rwx-rx.

    Hi,
First of all, I cannot really see the concept behind the user management how you have assigned orasoft and oradb users to oinstall and dba groups.
Why cannot oinstall be the primary for both users and dba is the secondary? As well as what OS group do you plan to be the sysdba and sysoper groups?
Second of all what do you mean by:

  • How to completely uninstall oracle software?

    Dear all,
I have followed the installation guide to delete the oracle software after i removing the CI and DB instance.
There was 2 parts where i unsure whether i did it correctly.
    3. Edit the Oracle Registry entries as follows:
    a. Choose Start → Run and enter REGEDIT
    b. Delete the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE → SOFTWARE → ORACLE
    c. Delete all Oracle references under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE → SYSTEM→CURRENTCONTROLSET → SERVICES
    4. Delete all Oracle references from the Windows user and system environment:
    a. Choose Start → Programs → System.
    b. Choose the Advanced tab and then click Environment Variables.
    c. For example, delete the variables:
    TNS_ADMIN, NLS_LANG, ORACLE_HOME
    d. Also delete Oracle from the PATH variable
I was unsure because there are so many Sap system installed in the same host. I deleted everything with the <sapid> in the above place.
After i done with the deletion, i start to reinstall a new oracle software, whenever i start the OUI, the old oracle software keep generate out(i deleted manually and trying to install a new oracle software with the same name).
In the end, i gave up and use another name. why is this happening? maybe i didn't delete it clearly enough?
hope some one can explain on this, thanks in advanced
    regards,
    Jerry

This is where my problem comes. I have multiple SAP instances that are installed in the same host.
I deleted ALL the registry enteries and environment variables that contain the <sid> that i wanted to delete. Then i have problem starting back my other SAP instance(we have to close all the services and sqlplus when deleting the oracle software). I couldn't start the services back with error 6: invalid handler. I could not see any sap system from MMC.
I believe it have to do with the environment variable and registry entries i deleted. Any idea how to recover back or tell me what is the standard environment variable that is needed for multiple sap and oracle to run?
p/s: we have multiple oracle software and multiple sap instance/DB instance installed in the same machine.

  • Implementing a business process with Oracle software

    Hello Oracle community,
I'm new to Oracle software and would like to know which tools from Oracle I need when I want to implement a WSDL based business process. All ressources I would like to access within the scope of the process are described with WSDL and I would like to model the whole process with Oracle software.
I guess that I'll need at least the JDeveloper Suite so the post is hopefully not completely off-topic in this forum.
    In particular the questions are:
    - Which Oracle Tool can model a business process (and can handle WSDL)
    - Which Oracle Tool can implement the technical aspect of a business process (might be the same tool)
    - Which Oracle Tool (Oracle 9iAS I guess) will I need to deploy & run the finished business process
    - And the last question: does Oracle support BPEL?
I need this informationen for my studies at my university. I hope that someone can point me in the right direction.

Unfortunately the recently announced BPEL (Business Process Execution Language) Designer is available as an IBM Eclipse Plugin, so yes you need to be running the Eclipse IDE to be able to use the BPEL on top of Oracle Application Server (OC4J).
A Jdeveloper plugin for BPEL I guess would be available sometime next year ?

  • Backup oracle software.

Hi members, I have a question about system backups runnign Oracle and hope this is a right place and someone can answer.
How should we coordinate windows filesystem backups using backup exec 12.5. ex: backing up windows drives c: d: running oracle software and data files. I am planning to tell the sys admin to run the database shutdown script using back up exec before backing up and then running the startup script after backup is complete.. This sounds very practical to me unless you have any other suggestions... Thanks for your thoughts.

I am planning to tell the sys admin to run the database shutdown script using back up exec before backing up and then running the startup script after backup is complete.. This sounds very practical to me unless you have any other suggestions... Thanks for your thoughts.First, make sure you keep in mind that backing up the database and backing up the oracle software installation are two different things.
You shouldn't have to shut down the database to get a good backup of the oracle software - a backup of the ORACLE_HOME directory.
As for the database itself, what you describe will give you a cold backup of the database. But suppose you take that backup at 2:00 am and you lose the database at 5:00 pm, after a full day's worth of data updates? You really ... really ... REALLY need to make sure your db is running in archivelog mode and you are using rman to backup the database. Your system backup would then backup the backups. As a DBA, your first responsibility is to be able to recover the database with no more data loss than is acceptable to the organization. If you can't do that, you better have your resume up-to-date and with that in mind, I don't trust any SA to advise me about backing up oracle databases.

  • Unable to deinstall oracle software

I installed 9.2.0.1 and cloned a database using cold backup of same version database. Then i applied 9.2.0.8 patch on top of
9.2.0.1 by following release notes for the patch.
When i started database it started throwing errors drop_segment doesn't exist.
Thus i dropped the database using DBCA and then tried to uninstall the oracle software.I tried doing this
using universal installer of 9.2.0.1 but it says that higher version universal
installer installed some components so asks to use higher version for
    uninstall.
When i used the universal installer given with patch set it doesn't gives the current oracle home to be uninstalled.
I want to deinstall the oracle software and then install it again. What should i do ?

Since release 9.2.0.7.0 the 10g OUI is used to install/deinstall oracle products, so when you attempt to uninstall using the OUI from 9.2.0.1.0 an error message will appear telling you that a later OUI is required. You can deinstall using the same OUI used when you installed the 9.2.0.8.0 patchset.
Previous to deinstall make sure you don't have database services (if you want to get rid of database as well).
Once deinstalled you can get rid of all oracle related entries at the regedit. Just watch out, you will be dealing with regedit and you don't want to leave your windows useless.
You can delete the oracle directory left at the program files\oracle, this contain the oracle inventory and the OUI programs.
