32 bit Planning compatability with 64 bit Essbase

Hi,
We are running version 11.1.1.3.01 of Planning, and Essbase 11.1.1.3 on two Windows 2003 R2 Sp2 servers. Planning/Worspace/etc on one server and Essbase by itself on the other. We want to add a new planning server and a new essbase server.
Will 32bit planning work with 64bit essbase if we want to go that route? Any downside to using 64 bit essbase with planning?
Also can multiple Planning Application servers exist in a single Worspace instance. In other words do I need to install workspace along side of planning on the new planning server? Can I get the existing Workspace installation to recognize the new planning server? What is the best practice? Hope that makes sense.
Thanks for any responses,
Keith

Best practice for multiple Planning servers is a load balancer (Force5 BigIP/Citrix NetScaler/Cisco/Microsoft NLB). Most larger companies have BigIP's or Netscalers.
The VIP should be set with sticky sessions based on source IP and you would register your environment with the VIP.

  • Bridge to CS4 64 bit Vista - Problem with bit depth

    I'm using Camera Raw in Bridge and CS4 64 bit. When the Camera Raw window opens in Bridge, the image is shown in 8 bit mode even though shot in 16 bit. I could not find a setting in either the Bridge or CS4 Preferences that accounts for the down sampling. If I do the same raw conversion in Lightroom, this down sampling doesn't occur. Any ideas? Also, if you use certain features in Essbase that are easy to add in EAS, you end up with outline verification problems in AppMgr, including problems in member calcs.<BR><BR>We are on 7.1.3, but some of our financial users do still have AppMgr 6.5.4. • Premier pro 5.5 not compatable with windows 7 64 bit

    I have recently spent over 3.5 hours on the phone live only to be told they can't fix the problem of Premier pro shutting down in Windows 7 64bit every time I try to open it.
    I was told to install Pro 4.  I have pro 4 and that is why I bought 5.5  Now I can't get pro 4 to work either it also is shutting down.  Has anyone had the problem.  I believe Adobe has left me hanging after spending 495.

    I was finally luckey enough to get a tech on the phone.  To get the tech I had to call sales and explain what was happening , that the 800-833 6687 would get me to choice 2 for tech help and then hang  up.  This happened yesterday 10-28-2011 roughly 18 times.  The sales person was kind enough to stay on the phone and verify what I was saying and go through the connections and get me to a tech who knew what he was doing and take the time to do it.  It took roughly 1hour and 30 minutes to determine that the video card was the problem.  The adobe site lists my card and compatable with the suite.  I took the machine to Best Buy tech
    and tried to show him the problem and the system worked.  I recreated the scene at home and found the difference was that BB was using only one monitor.  Premier Pro 5.5 is the only part of the suite that will not work with dual monitors.  For 3 days I have spent countless hours and exausted patience only to solve the problem myself.  So much for Adobe tech help.

    Burn this image file (.iso) to a USB drive or DVD-R:
    USB drive:
    Get a blank USB drive with 8 GB+ capacity
    Format this drive to Fat32 (Windows and Mac shared format), this will erase the drive!:
    Finder > Applications > Utitilies > Disk Utility > Partition > 1 > Fat32
    Extract the image file to the drive exposing its files:
    Finder > Applications > Utilites > Boot Camp Assistant
    Click both "Create a Win 7 or later version install disk" and "Download the latest windows support software from Apple" and advance
    Locate your image (iso) file, example: /Users/Christoper/Downloads/X17-58997.iso.download/X17-58997.iso
    Destination disk is your USB flash drive that was formatted to fat32, if it does not appear it may be in the wrong format
    Click continue, this process takes a long time (30 mins - 1.5 hour estimated), it may appear that it is freezing because progress bar stops at times, do not stop it, let it keep running.  If you are unsure it is still going, open finder > click the drive > get info, and look at the size of the files.  Then close finder wait a few seconds, get info again and see that file size is slightly larger.  The final file size was 4+ GB for me
    or DVD-R:
    I have not used a DVD-R but this is how I expect it to work:
    Insert black DVD-R
    Finder > Applications > Utitilies > Disk Utility > Burn
    Locate your image (iso) file, example: /Users/Christoper/Downloads/X17-58997.iso.download/X17-58997.iso
    Partition HD for WIndows 7:
    Finder > Applications > Utilites > Boot Camp Assistant
    Choose the 3rd option Install Windows 7
    It will ask you to select a size of your Harddrive space for Windows OS, this will eat up some of the free space on your Mac HD.  How much space is enough for a Windows OS?  Depends on how many programs you plan to install on it.  If you are just using for surfing web and running MS Office, probably 30-40 GB is enough, and this is what I did.  Remember this space will be used up from your existing HD and not usable when you are in Mac OS.  This process takes about 10 mins I think
    Install Win 7 OS:
    With USB drive in port or DVD in drive, restart laptop.
    It will bring up the Win 7 installer on boot up
    Select the OS type that you have a registered key for
    It will ask you to find a HD to use for Win 7 OS:
    Select the HD you just created, if you try to continue it will complain that HD is wrong format (because MAC formatted it to a MAC compatible HD, we will fix this)
    Select the HD, there is a button to the right for "advanced" I believe is the text of it.  It will allow you to reformat the drive, choose NTFS which it requires.  Then proceed
    Proceed to setup Win with your preferences
    Type product key from your OS purchase or an existing one that you are moving from another machine
    Select Default Boot Drive:
    By default it selects Windows as your default OS to boot at power up, most people want Mac OSX to be the default, so this can be changed:
    Finder > System Preferences > Startup Disk > select Mac
    Enjoy having Windows on your Mac!

    Why use Boot Camp: Sometimes you need to run a windows only program.  Boot Camp lets you do that with the speed and smoothness of a full windows OS.
    How is it different from Mac Virtual Machine: A VM allows you to run another OS simultaneously while you are running OSX, while in a window similar to any other application.  A VM is not as fast, smooth, and may have limited screensize/view.
    Is it possible to have a VM and Boot Camp: Yes, and I do this because sometimes I want to use a VM quickly without shutting down, sometimes I want the advantages of Boot Camp

  • What is the plan for 64-bit Windows?

    The 11G Express Edition Beta installed without warnings or errors on a Windows 7 64-bit virtual machine. However after install, the following error appears multiple times in the alert log:
    OER 7451 in Load Indicator : Error Code = OSD-04500: illegal option specified
    O/S-Error: (OS 1) Incorrect function. !
    This error is repeats every 10 seconds in the alert log.
    I understand that this is most likely because of the 64-bit OS. However, it is almost impossible to buy a Windows system today that is not 64-bit. If the plan is to only provide 11G Express Edition Beta in a 32-bit version for Windows, I think it should at least install and run properly in 32-bit mode on current 64-bit Windows operating systems. Or is a 64-bit version for Windows in the works?
    Thanks! It is great to see some progress on 11G Express!
    Edited by: user468360 on Apr 13, 2011 12:08 PM
    I probably obscured my question with the alert log error code. I changed the subject to my real question: What is the plan for 64-bit Windows?
    Since almost all windows systems are rapidly moving to 64-bit, will 11G Express be made available in a package (either 32-bit or 64-bit) which installs and runs correctly on a 64-bit windows system? Should we report 64-bit related bugs seen with the 32-bit install package so they can be fixed or is a 64-bit package coming? Thanks!

    I don't dispute that you can do the install of 11G Express on a 64-bit Windows OS. It even appears to complete successfully. The database opens and you can connect to it.
    However I seriously question if the underlying database processes are running correctly. My alert log is filled with hundreds of the errors that I listed in my original post.
    If you have posted that you have a successful install on 64-bit Windows, could you please check your alert log and let us know if you are seeing errors, or if everything is running correctly. The alert log is the main error log for the database. You can find it in C:\OracleXE\app\oracle\diag\rdbms\xe\xe\trace\alert_xe.log. Open this file in notepad and check for errors.
    Based on the errors that I am seeing, I ask again: What is the plan for 64-bit Windows? Does anyone from Oracle moderate this forum? Is 11G XE supposed to run correctly on 64-bit Windows, or what is the plan for supporting the almost universal move to 64-bit windows operating systems?
    Thanks!

  • 64 bit serial driver with 32 bit VISA causing problems?

    I'm running LabView 2012 on Linux (kernel 3.10) on an x86_64 machine. I think that VISA is not playing nicely with my 64-bit serial driver. I have a few instuments connected through an NPort serial to ethernet converter. Instruments which output data constantly (unpolled) are working fine. I'm reading ASCII data from those using both minicom and LabView / VISA with no problem. Instruments which need to be polled for data are not working.
    The same software and drivers are working fine on a 32-bit machine in the same lab (although I compiled the NPort serial driver for 32-bit on that machine). All I can think is that 32-bit VISA doesn't like the "bitness" of the 64 bit serial driver, and it's mashing anything I try to write to a serial port. This being the case:
    1) Can I install 64-bit VISA for Linux in conjunction with 32-bit Labview? Would that work?
    2) If I have to go for a 64-bit LabView, do I really need to downgrade my kernel to 2.x as suggested in a hidden NI compatibility document that I now can't find?
    3) Why is Linux such an after-thought with NI?

    OK. Panic over. Could be down to differences in control codes that the newer version of the driver is acting on.

  • Hyperion Planning on 64 bit Solaris. ODI on 32 bit Windows.

    Hi,
    I have Hyperion planning on 64 bit Solaris and ODI installed on 32 bit windows server. Could not reverse a planning app in ODI.
    The error message says - Could not connect to Planning instance.
    I have checked the RMI service at port 11333 on solaris and its running. I can telnet to this port from the windows server successfully.
    Has any one come across such an issue before or knows of any issues regarding this?
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I had a problem with ODI being on linux and planning on windows.
    I could telnet the ping / telnet across between boxes. When reversing it could connect to planning but could not return, it turned out to be an issue with loopback on linux that had an extra ip of 10.0.0.0
    I removed the loopback from the host and it started reversing without a problem.
    If you telnet then maybe it is some sort of routing host file issue.
    Cheers

  • A little bit of help with Bind variables please

    Hi,
    I am having a bit of trouble with bind variables I have been looking at the Dev guide and the forum to try and achieve this and it is still not happening for me, could anybody please help or point me in the right direction:
    I have created a simple PersonVO with the basic query:
    Select distinct full_name from xxml_people where person_id = :1
    In the PersonVOImpl.java I have added the method:
    public void initQuery(String personId)
    Number person = null;
    try
    person = new Number(personId);
    catch
    (Exception e){}
    setWhereClauseParam(1,person);
    executeQuery();
    Then in the PersonAM I have added the method:
    public void initPersonQuery(String personId)
    getPersonVO1().initQuery(personId);
    I then call this method in my processRequest section of my page controller:
    PersonAMImpl am = (PersonAMImpl) pageContext.getRootApplicationModule();
    String personId = "581";
    am.initPersonQuery(personId);
    When I try and run this I get the error:
    oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: oracle.jbo.SQLStmtException: JBO-27122: SQL error during statement preparation. Statement: SELECT distinct full_name from xxml_absence_calendar where person_id = :1
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01006: bind variable does not exist
    Am I binding the variables correctly? Or am I making some stupid mistake?
    I am ultimately looking to create a messageChoice where the logged in user will see a list of all organisations underneath him and the one level above. I plan to do this by passing the User’s Organisation name into a VO query using the organisation as a Bind Variable. I think once I have worked out how to bind variables this should be straight forward.
    Many Thanks

    Even though the parameter binding values may be same, you should never use the positional param more than once. So always go for the format
    select distinct full_name from xxml_people where supervisor_id = :1
    UNION
    select distinct full_name from xxml_people where person_id = :2
    --Shiv

    Our organization is looking to move to Microsoft Office 365. Is there any compatibility issues with the Essbase retrieve add in version 9.3? ; We also use the In2Hyperion Essbase Ribbon version 3.3. I checked the certification documents, but they do not mention anything about Office 365. I appreciate any assistance with this issue.

    Office 365 Web Apps are not supported and cannot be supported as there is no platform for add-in's in that environment. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13602
    Most Office 365 uses cases and users end up with Office installed on the desktop and at that point we are talking about normal Office Support. Right now it is up to the Office 365 administrator to determine the version of Office to be used by their 365 users. http://onlinehelp.microsoft.com/en-us/office365-enterprises/ff637585.aspx
    Short answer is that Smart View does not support Office 365 Web Apps and there are no plans to support the Web Apps.

  • Installing SAP GUI on 64-bit Windows 7 with 32-bit Office

    Until about 6 months ago, 64-bit systems in my environment had 64-bit Office 2010 installed.  That caused some problems with other applications, so I made the decision that, going forward, ALL systems would have 32-bit Office 2010 installed.
    Apparently, it's taken 6 months, but I finally have a need to Install SAP GUI 7.20 Patch 6 on a 64-bit Windows 7 system with 32-bit Office 2010.  It turns out, that doesn't work.
    I receive this:
    Not all package prerequisits [sic] are fulfilled
    Outlook Client extension for the synchronization of SAPoffice calendar with Outlook calendar... No compatible version of Microsoft Outlook found.
    I am assuming that since this same installation works on my 32-bit systems, that it is upset about my architecturally-mismatched Office.
    Am I correct about the source for this problem?  If so, is there anything I can do to make the GUI work in this environment?

    Hi John,
    Actually, there is no mismatch in having 32-bit Office installed on 64-bit Windows.  In fact, this is probably the preferred environment.  SAPGUI in general is much happier with 32-bit Office, especially older patches (by the way, 7.20 is no longer in support -- you should upgrade to 7.30).
    The errors you're receiving are most probably related to lingering 64-bit components of Office on your workstation.  We had the same situation in my office a while back, when we first started rolling out 64-bit Windows to a few users, and the PC techs mistakenly thought that meant they had to install 64-bit Office.  That caused lots of problems, since 64-bit Office is incompatible with many things, not just SAPGUI, as you found.  Correcting the error by simply reinstalling Office 32-bit resulting in workstations with some 64-bit and some 32-bit components, and that just made things worse.  Systems where 32-bit Office was installed from the beginning (on 64-bit OS) had no problems at all.
    So, what you're probably going to need to do is to uninstall all Office components (including Outlook, Visio, anything like that, not just Word and Excel), and also uninstall your SAPGUI, then reinstall 32-bit Office (with Outlook) from scratch, then reinstall your SAPGUI.  This will probably clear up your problem.
    Regards,
    Matt

  • For the 2013 versions of macbook pro should I purchase 32 bit windows or 64 bit version to be able to install it on macbook and use windows with bootcamp?

    for the 2013 versions of macbook pro should I purchase 32 bit windows or 64 bit version to be able to install it on macbook and use windows with bootcamp?

    Then you might check at any of the other university book stores or software stores or any computer store in town for the 64-bit version.
    If you want to use the 32-bit version from the school (you probably get it for free or very cheap) then you could purchase Parallels and run it as a virtual machine concurrently with OS X. There are some caveats:
    1. You have to purchase Parallels (there may be an academic discount.) List is $79.95.
    2. Your computer needs minimally 4 GBs of RAM, but realistically 8 GBs would be better.
    3. Parallels creates a pseudo-drive on your hard drive. It could easily require 50 GBs of disk space.
    Accommodating these might be more costly than buying 64-bit Windows 7. And, if you look online you may find them with an academic discount (or may be able to order it through the school.)

  • Epson Stylus Pro 9800 errors on 32-bit Windows 7 with Adobe CS4

    Epson Stylus Pro 9800 errors on 32-bit Windows 7 with Adobe CS4
    Question: We are experiencing some major errors with printing to our Epson Stylus 9800 Pro. Some of our large files are spooling about 16K, then crashing Photoshop. Sometimes we are getting partial prints (the left most 3-4 inches of print, or the file starting to print about 1/2 way into the file itself), sometimes it just spools for a few minutes, then stops, with nothing coming from the printer at all.
    At Epson's request, we have tried the following:
    reinstalling Windows 7 print driver
    Reinstalling Adobe CS 4
    Installed NEW NIC in printer
    Installed new network line to printer
    Installed new main board on printer
    Printed from a PC directly connected to printer via USB and crossover cable
    This issue is very bizarre in that it is random and sporatic. Same file will cause one of the above errors, then, another attempt to print same file will be successful. We have several Windows 7 machines that get the issue, while several Windows XP machines are fine. Epson instructed us to install the newest (win7) driver on the XP machines, issue then affects XP machines. Uninstalling new driver and re-installing old driver on XP machines resolves issue on XP machines.
    Is this an issue with the Epson driver? CS4 on Windows 7? Or some other malady?
