32 bit PS CS6 as default in windows 7 64

I have a problem with Adobe Bridge opening files in PS 64 bit instead of my prefered 32 version.
I took the "Typical"install when I installed Photoshop and I suppose that's why 64 is the default.
Any hints for making 32 the default before I go playing with registry settings?

Ok thanks Curt. About the best I can do aside from setting file associations is to keep the 32  bit version of Photoshop open before using Bridge.
Thanks for the help.

There isn't such a thing. If you are talking about the free Adobe Reader, you are at the right forum, but if your problem is with Adobe Acrobat Pro, you should post here:

In any case, I suggest that you explain what "crashing" means in your case, including any error messages.

  • Make 32 bit Photoshop CS4 the default instead of 64 bit?

It was a bit of a surprise to find that none of my 32-bit plugins would work with Photoshop CS4 x64. Most seem to work fine in the 32-bit version of PS though. Is there a way to make the 32-bit version launch by default from Bridge or when opening a PSD file instead of the 64-bit version?

I encountered this issue today as well when I installed Photoshop CS5, and discovered that my usual plugins do not work properly.
They did work properly while running in 32 bit mode.
Windows 7's extension definition sucks, that's why I rather work with the registry.
So after a bit tweaking, I think I finally cracked it.
The "Final Product" (if you will ) is two reg files for toggling 32 and 64 bit modes.
A word of caution: This is what worked on MY machine (Windows 7 64 Bit) and I cannot gurrantee it would work on other computers, nor do I take responsibility for any damage that my occur. We are playing with the Registry here, so BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL.
These codes assume Photoshop is installed in the default location. If you've altered it, make sure to modify the files accordingly first.
Before attempting to use I recommend to create a restore point, just in case something may go wrong.
    Here we go:
To switch to 32 bit mode, open a blank notepad page, paste the below code and save it as "fix.reg" (NOT TXT). After saving, activate it and you're good to go.
    32 Bit Mode
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

  • Force 64 bit Elements 10 to install on Windows 8 64 bit

I have found only one refernece to this issue...and all anybody responded to was "it should this...it should that...."
I mean, hasn't anybody actually tried to install elements 10 on the final windows 8 64 bit yet??
Really? I am the first one....?
Well anyway...I have tried installing straight from the 64 bit folder....NO GO
I tried compatiblity on autorun...NO GO...
I keep getting to "install in X86...blah blah"
I have Premiere/Elements 10 disk. trying to install off of DISC 2.
    COMPAQ desktop
    AMD 64 X2
    Thanks for any ideas!!!

    Thanks for fast reply!!
...I'd watch for the next version of Premiere Elements to be fully compatible with it. But it's hard to hold Adobe responsible for an operating system that didn't even exist when the program was developed!
Yeah, I know, but it is just so frustrating to be looking at the 64bit install folder and adobe wont let me do it! It says I have to use the root install so it can make it's own decision of what OS I have.
Instead of doing what most software makers do (If 64 bit OS install 64 bit software)
    It's doing:
Is this windows 64 bit? YES.  is this windows 7 64 bit? NO. Is this Vista 64 bit? NO. Well then it must be XP 64 bit! No Install for you!
We are just talking about a badly written init file.
And yes I have never written a piece of software in my life and have no idea what I am talking about.
It's just that we are not talking about a compatbility problem that is preventing an install....mislocations of necessary folders, program errors...I am sure of it. We are talking about a simple edit on install that I had hoped would be on the online verision...that I just tried to download and install to no avail.  I mean, doest anybody try to install these things like 10 months ago in Adobe and just fix the tiny thing on the "online install" and have it ready by RTM ?
It is just frustrating, if they would at least let me try to install it instead of me waiting months and spending more money for a simple fix.
anyway I understand what you are saying, I shouldn't fault them...
But people will be buying this "64 bit" version of Elements well into windows 8 release and assume they are  installing 64 bit software because they chose the 64 bit disc not the 32 bit...
Many people will miss the "X86" on install and that's not right.
I havent had one problem with 64 bit programs defaulting to 32 bit on any of my other dual bit installs from other companies.
Millions of windows 8 have been downloaded....I don't feel so cutting edge with it coming out in a few weeks. I just don't understand how there is no mention of this sneaky issue on this planet with 7 billion people on it, i am not that clever
Oh it's so stupid to be this frustrated on a sunday morning. I'm just venting Steve, sorry!
Still if anybody has any tricks up thier sleaves besides a virtual windows 7 enviroment....or if it is just me and they have installed it fine...let me know!

    Can't Print/Connect from Windows 7 64 bit to Shared PSC 1315 on Windows 7 32bit Machine...
I tried to install driver on connecting PC, i tried to install printer as Local printer with local port - \\WIN7-32bit\HP PSC 1310 Series\ - and  i got access denied, and before i reinstall Windows on 64Bit machine its worked correctly... anyone know how to solve this problem ?
    *Edited*
When i connect it on 64 Bit machine printer requesting driver *.inf and not specific file...
i try to install 64bit driver on 32 bit machine in sharing options and they didn't support it...

More than likely, you are receiving the access denied error because there may not be a HomeGroup in place.
To handle networks securely with Windows 7, Microsoft took a different approach.  A HomeGroup essentially creates a trust among all the devices in that home group.  If a device is not in that homegroup, then that system will essentially be denied access.
Click on Install a printer on a home network to get basic steps to install a printer in a network environment.
Click on HomeGroup: recommended links to get more information about Home Groups, including setting one up.

  • Printing from a 32 bit client in a 64 bit environment (laserjet 4000 n with windows 7)

I have a HP laserjet 4000n connected to a 64 bit windows 7 machine.  Another client (32 bit) on my network wants to print to that printer.  I saw on the support website instructions for how to do this:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=...
So far, I have installed the 64 bit driver (just re-installed and I can print from the 64 bit server).
I then downloaded the 32 bit driver files (for PCL 5) and saved them.
I then went to the printing properties of  the printer and chose advanced drivers and checked the box "x86". The instructions called for finding the file "hpcuXXXc.inf".  In the printer driver folder, there were 2 subfolders - one marked 64 bit and inside that folder was a file "hpcu112t.inf" (file ends in "t" not "c") - so I chose that file and pressed ok and got the following error message:
The specified location does not contain the driver HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL5 for the requested processor architecture.
I then downloaded more drivers (for PCL 6 - even though my printer is labelled PCL 5).  This time, I got no 64 bit subfolder (only one folder labelled windows vista).  However , there WAS a file labelled "hpcu112c" this time - so I chose that and still got the same error message.
    Help!?
    Thanks.
    Janc

    Phychopomp1,
Windows 7 64 bit is able to run 32 bit programs. However, some programs will have issues.
Have you checked your programs against the Windows 7 compatibility list: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=2394
This should tell you if they are compatible or not with Windows 7 64-bit.
There are compatibility settings that you can try once you have installed the software also. Right click on the shortcut and choose properties, then go to the compatibility tab and try the various OS settings.
If those things fail, then you should try Windows XP Mode (convenience link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx). This will allow you to install your programs in a virtual copy of Windows XP SP3 using Windows Virtual PC. Once XP Mode is installed, when you install your software into it, you will get a shortcut to use the program from your Windows 7 start menu without even seeing the XP Mode window.
    Hope this helps,
    David

  • I can no longer turn on or off 32 bit to 64 from the info window.

I can no longer turn on or off 32 bit to 64 from the info window. I have done a total reinstall with system 10.6 and Logic with no results. I was running Lion but it would allow me to run my Tascam FW-1884. I need to switch back to 32bit on Logic to enable new plugins on my UAD-2 Card. My Question is was the 32bit to 64 bit switch available in version 10.6 or was it introduced in 10.68?

Turn on the option see by others. And it should be work fine.

  • Itunes as default in Windows 8.1

I got a new keyboard that has a media shortcut button on it. When I am in the "set program access and computer defaults" screen I click on iTunes to be the default media player, it sets it then takes me back to the default program window. If I go back and look, my Itunes setting is removed and changed to use current media player. My default app is set to Itunes but this media keyboard shortcut isn't working.
    What am I doing wrong

Without knowing more details I'd hazard a guess that this is an inconsistency or incompatibility between Windows and your keyboard, and not in iTunes issue.  Hot keys are programmed to execute a specific function in Windows - in this case to launch iTunes - and there is no direct connection with iTunes itself.  I would check to see if there is a Windows 8.1 specific driver available for the keyboard and see if that resolves the issue.

    Please help.

    Hi Naga,
I already tried this code. But what it does is, it opens same window as new window in main application window.. so on screen I see two windows.. one parent window with URL clearly seen and 2nd child window which doesn't have address bar
So this is not as I need.
    Are you getting my point?

  • Can I set a default finder window style?

I would like to set a default Finder window style that will affect all windows, new and old. I am able to set my default style to list, but I want to go beyond that. I want my windows to be lists, with only certain columns visible, I want the columns to be set to specific widths, and I want the windows to open as if the green button in the corner had been pressed.
In Windows it is fairly easy to set a default Explorer window style with this level of setting. Can I do it on my Mac? Some setting I am missing, or some third party program?
    Thanks!
